Poll Shows Americans Tired Of Government Telling Them What To Do

They’re tired of Ye Olde Nanny State Of course, when it comes to something individuals are against, they’re happy to ask government to pull out the banhammer

(Daily Caller) Americans want the government to stop acting like their mother.

According to a Reason-Rupe poll, Americans do not want government to ban trans-fats, e-cigarettes, online poker, violent video games or genetic testing kits.

Many Americans are becoming frustrated with the government’s growing involvement in what they believe should be their personal decisions.

The only loser is making a gun with a 3D printer. But, wait, it gets better, because this is a very big poll, asking lots and lots and lots of questions. The Reason article links to another article about the survey, and we learn

  • But 55 percent of Americans say they’d prefer to go back to the health care system that was in place before the Affordable Care Act, while 34 percent prefer the current health care system.
  • …the Affordable Care Act’s troubled launch has made 47 percent of Americans less confident in government’s ability to solve problems..
  • However, 57 percent of Americans tell Reason-Rupe that the Obama administration is not the most transparent administration in history,
  • 52 percent, say they disagree with President Obama’s views about the proper size and power of government
  • Fifty-four percent of those surveyed feel government is generally a “burdensome part of society that impedes the ability of people to improve their lives,”

Sadly, for that last one, we learn that “41 percent feel “government is primarily a source of good and helps people improve their lives.”” That’s what Conservatives are up against, people who actually think Government is Good.

73% state that Congress doesn’t understand Obamacare nor how it affects Americans. 57% think Obama’s a total chump who’s doing a poor job on healthcare, 38% approve of his job performance. People think the country is headed in the wrong direction 56%-35%. People hate Obamacare 53%-47%.

People generally find it unacceptable, in many cases up in the 70-78% range, to be charged extra for all the goodies in Obamacare.

Finally, we find that the poll leans Democrat, with a sample of 34-23-34 (D-R-I). This does not bode well for Democrats, when we have samples like this and negative responses for Things Democrats Care About.

Android Today: “Android Lost”

The app of the day is Android Lost, an app designed to help you track down you device if lost or stolen. It can also wipe your Droid, erase SD card, lock it, and lots, lots more. You can even sent a text message if you think someone has it, and make it speak. You can make it snap a photo with front or back camera.

The app resides on your phone as an innocuous looking app, and you go to androidlost.com to control it.

I’ve lost precisely 2 phones in almost 20 years, but it’s a good thing to have an app such as this, what with all the data we keep on them. If not this, get another. I will also give Android Device Manager a whirl later. It seems to be much more basic.

White House Sends Out Typically Secularlist “Christmas” Card

Obviously, if you complain about this, you must have faux outrage or something

(HuffPo) For four years, conservatives have faulted the seasonal mailing out of the White House for a lack of allusions to Christmas: no tree, no manger, no jolly old man.

And here we are again, at that most wonderful time of the year:

The 2013 card, pictured above, hit mailboxes this week. The pop-up contraption features signatures from all four human Obamas, two mini-paw prints, and a message that reflects the first lady’s theme of gathering. The stars of the show, though, are the two upright silhouettes of the Obama family dogs, Bo and Sunny.

Cue the outrage. In years past, the Obamas’ focus on their canine demographic in particular has rankled critics, who see the choice to spotlight any one thing as a choice not to spotlight something else — that something else being a Christmas tree.

You’re probably a raaaaacist, too, if you object to the secular tone of the card.

Dems War On Women: Female Physician Belittled For Attacking Obamacare

Imagine had a Republican treated a female physician in this manner

(NY Post) Dr. Patricia McLaughlin, whose ObamaCare woes were first highlighted in The Post, gave a House committee a simple prescription for the defective health care law: “Fix it!”

But Democratic lawmakers pounced on her for relating how she got hit with an ObamaCare “double whammy.”

McLaughlin told the House Oversight Committee, which invited her to testify after reading The Post article, how she had lost the group health plan for her four-person office.

Then, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield dropped her from its provider network, forcing her patients using that insurance to go elsewhere or pay out of pocket, she said.

Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) questioned whether McLaughlin was dumped from the network because her “credentials” weren’t as good as other doctors’.

This comes via The Lonely Conservative (who you should be reading daily), who notes

Dr. McLaughlin said they treated her differently than others who testified and that it “hurt to the core” because she’s only acting as an advocate for her patients. I guess the Democrats just wanted her to know here place. She might have “MD” after her name but she’s not part of the ruling class so she better just pipe down.

Obama Uses Newtown Anniversary To Push “Grassroots” Gun Control

Did you expect him to do anything else?

(The Hill) President Obama marked the anniversary of the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, and called for a nationwide grassroots push for gun control in his weekly radio address.

The president’s statement came a day after a gunman shot at least one student and then committed suicide at a suburban high school in Colorado, a few miles from Columbine High School, the site of a mass shooting in 1999.

“We haven’t yet done enough to make our communities and our country safer. We have to do more to keep dangerous people from getting their hands on a gun so easily. We have to do more to heal troubled minds,” Obama said in remarks made public Saturday morning.

By “dangerous people”, he means all private citizens. As for making communities safer, how’s that working out in gun free Chicago? Why do so many crazy attacks seem to occur in gun free zones, such as the one yesterday in Colorado? And by “we”, he means someone else should do the work, because it sounds like work, and he has better things to do, like campaigning, golf, handing power over to Putin, etc.

Obama expressed little faith in Congress acting before the mid-term election and instead called on people across the country to become active.

“We can’t lose sight of the fact that real change won’t come from Washington.  It will come the way it’s always come – from you.  From the American people,” he said.

Except, support for gun control is at pre-Newtown levels. And, it depends on what you call “gun control”. There are certainly measures that could be put in place, mostly better background checks. But Obama, a guy who is surrounded and protected by people with guns, and Dems want serious draconian restrictions that disarm law abiding citizens, leaving guns in the hands of criminals.

I suggest if Democrats really want gun control, they should start with themselves and voluntarily disarm. Turn in all their guns. Walk the talk.

Tough sledding ahead for Santa

This Christmas is turning out to be a potentially bad season for Santa Claus.

The North Pole is melting and as it shrinks there’s the danger that it will reveal the location of the secret workshop where Santa and the elves spend most of the year making toys, cleverly disguising their origin by labeling them “Made in China.”

Moreover, as the ice melts, nations are beginning to lay claim to segments of the Pole in the belief that under the ice cap there are oil, gas and mineral deposits in addition to a super-efficient toy factory.

And then writer Dale McFeatters makes fun of Santa’s out of season and PETA enraging clothing. Fortunately, if this winter becomes the 5th out of the last 6 to be heavy…

Scientist: Heavier Snow Just One Climate Change Impact in Ohio

From heavier snowfall and rainfall to record-setting summer temperatures, many experts say climate change is happening in Ohio.

That’s how you know it’s a cult. No Warmist can tell you what conditions would disprove anthropogenic “climate change”, and no matter what happens, climate change is to blame.

Sigh: The Simpsons Includes “Climate Change” For Christmas Episode

Continuing the 25 Days of Climate Christmas

(Wicked Local) It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – but only where The Simpsons live. The long-running Fox series will celebrate the holidays Sunday, Dec. 15 (8/7c) in predictably screwy fashion: Thanks to global warming, there’s no snow anywhere in the United States except in Springfield, where a radiation leak at the town’s nuclear-power plant has resulted in lots of local white stuff. Cue the price gouging.

“Springfield is suddenly booming with tourists who want a traditional white Christmas and that means all the prices are jacked up,” exec producer Al Jean tells TV Guide Magazine. “To cope with the new high cost of shopping, Marge turns the Simpson home into a B&B.”

Interestingly, December 11th was possibly a record for snow coverage. 4 out of the past 5 winters were very cold and snowy, and it looks like this winter will be the same. Oh, wait, sorry, I forgot that “climate change” theory proclaims that cold weather, snow, and ice is caused by too much in the way of man released GHGs. My bad!
