Obamacare Supporters Really Psyched Over 1 Million Picking A Plan

And by Obamacare supporters, I mean the Major Media, who are thrilled with an Associated Press report

(Washington Post) A December surge propelled health care sign-ups through the government’s rehabilitated website past the 1 million mark, the Obama administration said Sunday, reflecting new signs of life for the problem-plagued federal insurance exchange.

Of the more than 1.1 million people now enrolled, nearly 1 million signed up in December, with the majority coming in the week before a pre-Christmas deadline for coverage to start in January. Compare that to a paltry 27,000 in October —the website’s first, error-prone month — or 137,000 in November.

*

The figures tell only part of the story. The administration has yet to provide a December update on the 14 states running their own exchanges. While California, New York, Washington, Kentucky and Connecticut have performed well, others are still struggling.

Still, the end-of-year surge suggests that with HealthCare.Gov now functioning better, the federal market may be starting to pull its weight. The windfall comes at a critical moment for Obama’s sweeping health care law, which becomes “real” for many Americans on Jan. 1 when coverage through the exchanges and key patient protections kick in.

They’re acting like this is something special, people being able to go on-line and accomplish something. Strange how people do not seem to have the same problems going online to Amazon, Best Buy, oh, and how about doing your taxes online? Anyhow, we all knew the website would work at some point.

“As we continue our open enrollment campaign, we experienced a welcome surge in enrollment as millions of Americans seek access to affordable health care coverage,” Marilyn Tavenner, the head of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said in a blog post.

The figures actually do only tell part of the story. How many have been moved to the government run Medicaid or SCHIP instead of obtaining private (government run) insurance? How many are young healthies, which are 100% necessary to avoid a death spiral? What is the condition of the pool, in terms of healthy people versus sick people? Oh, and here’s a big one: how many have paid?

The media doesn’t seem too interested in asking the tough questions and investigating to obtain the answers to these important questions. And The Most Transparent Administration Evah! © doesn’t seem to be too interested in releasing the details. There’s two explanations: either they are truly clueless or they know the numbers do not look good.

Of course, no one has actually attempted to use the insurance, and that’s when the rubber meets the road.

* according to the AP picture caption, it took these two ladies 1 hour 47 minutes to process the application. The lady on the right is a “certified enrollment officer, meaning she probably comes from a far left organization and has had no background check. Love the “coexist” bumper sticker, and, wouldn’t a photo of a mostly naked guy get some written up or terminated in the private sector? If a many had something like that up (featuring a woman) he’d be slapped with a sexual harassment suit.

16k Iowans Need To Reapply For Obamacare

Whew! It sure seems to be getting better

(Des Moines Register) Nearly 16,000 Iowans who tried to apply for coverage via the trouble-plagued federal health-insurance website are being told to apply separately through the state Department of Human Services.

The Friday afternoon announcement is the latest bout of bad news about the website, which is a key part of the Affordable Care Act.

The affected people should be receiving emails and letters about the situation from the state. They are being urged to reapply at the state website, dhsservices.iowa.gov, or by calling 1-855-889-7985.

Apparently the carrier pigeons are to tired (and cold), and all that globull warming created snow took down the telegraph lines.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Iowa goes through the federal healthcare.fail website. And the plans are, as typical high on the deductibles.

I wonder when we will hear the same for other states?

Brave Warmist Tells Us That Turning Off The Lights Can Make A Difference

But not for individuals. We need “collective action”, says Sami Grover at Treehugger

From my rambings on why green lifestyle choices won’t save us to the meteorologist who broke down over climate change and vowed never to fly again, I’ve regularly argued that personal carbon footprints can be a distraction, when what we really need to focus on is collective, system-wide change.

It’s not always a popular position. In fact, some commenters have accused me of being “weazely” – and they may have a point. Like most human beings, I am a hypocrite. And like most hypocrites worth their salt, I regularly feel guilty about it. But it really has never been about me. (Honestly!)

At least he’s honest that he’s a hypocrite. He perfectly encapsulates the Warmist mentality, that taking steps is something Other People have to do, preferably be forced to do, as a collective. I’ll write this slowly so Warmists/Liberals can understand: if you don’t believe in what you’re pushing enough to make even minor changes in your own lives to match your belief set, then why should anyone else? Why should we allow laws to be passed if you won’t walk the talk?

As I read Lloyd’s piece on why so many energy saving tips are bad, I was reminded again that caulking, turning down thermostats and switching off lights are indeed immensely valuable—but that we have to focus the lions’ share of our efforts on those actions which have the biggest, collective impact.

And that means simplifying our messages.

They’ve been messaging for 25 years. Yet, more and more people are learning the truth about the reality of anthropogenic “climate change”. Warmists want everyone forced to change their lives, hence the “collective” crap. Which is not really about any sort of environmental benefit, but about instituting hard-core Progressive dogma, laws, and regulations.

Imagine if, say, 25% of the population installed a Nest thermostat (or just programmed the thermostat they had already). Imagine if 25% changed their light bulbs—oh, wait – we’ll all be changing our light bulbs soon anyway. Imagine if 5% of the population installed solar, if 10% of us crowdfunded a solar project, and if 15% divested from fossil fuels. And maybe if a few more of us started to turn off the lights when we leave the room too.

Good luck with that. Warmists will mostly only make changes when they are forced to. How many are voluntarily giving up fossil fuels?

Team Obama Refuses To Allow Small Road Through Wildlife Refuge

A road that would give people access to medical care (via The Lonely Conservative)

(CNS News) Environmental priorities have trumped the medical concerns of a small Alaskan community.

After four years of study, the Obama administration has decided on that the isolated community of King Cove, Alaska may not build a 22-mile, single-lane gravel road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge to the town of Cold Bay.

The decision, announced on Dec. 23 by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell, has infuriated the people of King Cove, where the proposed road has been discussed since the 1980s.

The road would have given them access to emergency medical and other services by way of the all-weather airport at Cold Bay.

“Are birds really more important than people? It seems so hard to believe that the federal government finds it impossible to accommodate both wildlife and human beings,” the Associated Press quoted Aleutians East Borough Mayor Stanley Mack as saying.

In exchange for the 200 acres needed for the road, the state of Alaska and the King Cove Corp. would have added 55,000 acres to the refuge.

“I am angry. I am disappointed. I am frustrated. I am sad for the people of King Cove,” the newspaper quoted Murkowski as saying. “Four thousand miles from where they’re sitting, somebody has said you can’t have a 10-mile, one-lane, non-commercial-use road so you can access the second longest runway in the state of Alaska to get out for medical reasons.”

Well, yeah, the birds are more important in this case, as The Lonely Conservative points out

This is the same administration that has no problem with solar panels burning birds or windmills hacking them to pieces.

There are other methods for folks to get medical and other care, but this small, 10 mile road would be a lifeline for these citizens. I’m all for wildlife refuges, protecting the majesty and beauty of nature. One road won’t hurt.

Obamacare Contraception Mandate Loses In Federal Court

Why? Because it’s “in the public interest” to follow the Constitution

(Daily Caller) A federal district court judge in Houston ruled Friday in favor of two Baptist universities seeking relief from the Obamacare contraception mandate.

“The religious organization plaintiffs have shown a sincerely held religious belief that the court cannot second-guess,” reads the decision handed down in favor of East Texas Baptist University and Houston Baptist University by Lee H. Rosenthal.

“The plaintiffs have also shown that if they do not comply with a certain requirement that they believe offends that belief, they will face onerous fines.”

“The public interest weighs in favor of granting the injunction. Protecting constitutional rights and the rights under RFRA [Religious Freedom Restoration Act] are in the public’s interest,” continued Rosenthal, who was appointed to the U.S. District Court of Southern Texas by George H. W. Bush.

Let’s not forget, the mandate to provide free contraception, sterilization, and abortifacients was not in the “Affordable” Care Act, but something that was added by Obama’s far left Department of Health and Human Services. It’s a mandate that could be cancelled in a heartbeat, without legislation. But, that would annoy Obama’s moonbat liberal base. The only thing about anything “reproductive”, other than maternity coverage (which is mandatory, and has been mandatory before the ACA), are mentions of education programs.

According to the Beckett Fund For Religious Freedom, which litigated the case, there are 89 cases pending suing over the unconstitutionality of the Obama contraception decree, two of which are heading to the Supreme Court.

Obama Still Wants To Bring Gitmo Jihadis To US Soil

And, unsurprisingly, he’s whining at Congress

(Reuters) After signing the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2014, Obama noted that Congress retained regulations that prevent the transfer of prisoners to American soil, where they could be tried in federal court.

“The executive branch must have the authority to determine when and where to prosecute Guantanamo detainees,” Obama said in a signing statement released during his Hawaiian vacation.

The Authoritarian President seems to forget that Congress makes the laws. And Americans do not want the Islamic jihadis on domestic soil. He also forgets that there is plenty of authorization to prosecute them: at Gitmo.

Prosecuting alleged terrorists in U.S. federal court is “a legitimate, effective, and powerful tool in our efforts to protect the nation,” Obama said.

Perhaps he could explain how giving Islamists American constitutional rights, the ability to yammer on about jihad, Shari’a law, infidels, and how evil America is in court, expose secret material, etc, is a good thing?

Anyhow, here’s a suggestion : let’s build a detainmemt facility/court near Obama’s Chicago home. We’ll try them there and continue to house them there. Think Obama would go for that?

Warmists Really Hate Allowing “Skeptics” To Give Their Views

We’ve seen some websites, such as the LA Times and Reddit science, ban any discourse that disagrees with the cult talking points. Warmists have been agitating for other papers to do the same. They do the same in the public sphere, where they freak out on the BBC, MSNBC, and other outlets for daring to allow skeptics to show their faces. They especially hate it when they participate in debates, because Warmists get beaten like a rented mule every time. They don’t like it when any skeptic is allowed to speak in public

(Santa Barbara Independent) In a meeting that left everyone a bit confused, the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) heard a 20-minute speech Thursday from Bob Hinnrichs, a Santa Ynez Valley resident whose resume impressed the board but made some members question the credibility — and purpose — of his presentation topic: climate change.

Hinnrichs, an engineer who helped design rocket engines for NASA and said he began studying climate change data in 2000 after he retired, was asked to give his presentation by the board’s outgoing chair, Solvang Mayor Jim Richardson. Ahead of the meeting, environmental groups, including the Community Environmental Council, expressed concern both with Hinnrichs’s speech — which cast aspersions on the scientific community’s consensus that climate change is not only happening but happening because of humans — and that a climate scientist was not also asked to speak.

It further worried environmental groups that the APCD — a group composed of the five county supervisors, plus elected representatives from each of the county’s eight incorporated cities, that is in charge of looking out for the county’s air quality — was hearing from a climate change denier in the first place.

“I think it is outrageous and embarrassing that the chair of the organization tasked with regulating emissions in the county would invite a denier to come present demonstrably wrong and deliberately misleading information about climate change to the board,” Katie Davis, a representative of 350sb.org who worked for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, wrote in an email. “He did this despite warnings that the information was incorrect, objections from many board members, the fact that climate change poses a direct and urgent threat, and the fact that we have many actual scientists and experts in the field living and working in Santa Barbara.”

The cult doesn’t want anyone to hear any divergent views and data. At their hearts, progressives hate free speech that isn’t Approved. They’re always attempting to shut down any viewpoint that they do not agree with, and not just with “climate change”. They’re fascists.

A gentleman in Helena has some thoughts on free speech and climate change

It is absolutely frightening the number of people in Helena who are against free speech. I speak of those who are against the policy of the Helena IR to print letters of those that question manmade “Global Warming” or is it “Climate Change” this week? They wish to hide all of the lies, manipulated data and intimidation of scientists. They ignore scientists who discredit manmade global warming and want the Helena IR to be their proxy to continue this one sided policy.

They call those that disagree science deniers, liars and fools of corporate propaganda. While they idolatrize a failed seminary student who stated the North Pole would be completely free of ice today, while snow falls on the Sphinx in Egypt. They fail to notice that nearly all of the dire predictions have failed to mature. They fail to listen to scientists that have discovered that it was warmer 2000 years ago then today.

Their one sided approach to free speech rivals any totalitarian government. Making me question what they are trying to hide.

Liberals/Warmists can attempt to rationalize their fascistic ways all they want, but the very fact is that they hate free speech.
