Whew! Obama’s “Madder Than Hell” When It Comes To VA Scandal

Just not mad enough to say it himself

(The Blaze) The White House chief of staff said President Barack Obama is “madder than hell” about reports of treatment delays at veterans’ hospitals across the country.

Top aide Denis McDonough told CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday added concerning his boss’ take on the situation: “I’ve got the scars to prove it, given the briefings that I’ve given the president…”

McDonough added that Obama is demanding that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and others in the administration “continue to fix these things until they’re functioning the way that our veterans believe they should.”

Nor does he seem mad enough to actually fire anyone. Of course, it’s hard to do that when he’s playing another round of golf (and sent the pool reporter to a maintenance shed).

Via Twitchy, which has more comments.

The sad part is, this would really be a perfect issue for Obama to come out and lead. Unlike so many other scandals, does anyone truly think that Team Obama had any part in the VA scandal? I just can’t see anyone in his top administration ordering, suggesting, etc, that VA employees do what they did. There’s no benefit for them to do that. Top leaders cannot know everything all the time, so when a problem appears, they take the issue, get ahead of it, and do something to fix it. People get fired, the issue gets resolved. Yet, Obama doesn’t seem to want to really do anything about it, other than let others speak for him.

Instead, as Mary Katherine Hamm noted the other day, we seem to be entering the “silly press corps, stop asking questions” phase. Soon we will get to the “this is only crazy right wingers talking about it” phase, followed by the referring to the scandal as phony stage, followed by slow walking the investigation and release of documents, ending with saying “dude, that was over a year ago”. The only thing missing from her post is the Dem talking point used to blow off the issue, noting that “Democrats are focusing on the issues that Americans”.

Perhaps Obama is doing something behind the scenes. Though, it seems that yelling and telling others to Do Something seems to be his ultimate involvement. It highlights that Obama is more concerned with Being President than Doing President. Also, that he’s in over his head, even after 5 years in office. Finally, we see he just doesn’t care, even with an issue that he could use to make himself look good by taking strong action.

Republicans Like Really Back Comprehensive Immigration Reform!

It’s apparently Monday Poll day at Politico. They have one saying that most people favor legislation that tightens background checks for gun purchases. That’s rather common sense. It’s when Democrats start adding all the restrictions on legal purchases by law abiding citizens that we run into trouble. Then there’s a poll that shows Democrats are in serious trouble come the mid-terms. We’ll come back to that in a bit. And now we come to the immigration poll, which Politico trumpets the Republican backing in their headline

Comprehensive immigration reform enjoys broad bipartisan support, but is particularly intense among Hispanic voters, who are most likely to weigh the issue heavily as they assess candidates, according to a new POLITICO poll of voters in places with the most competitive House and Senate races.

Seventy-one percent of likely voters surveyed — and nine of 10 Hispanics — said they back sweeping change to immigration laws. The support spans party lines: 64 percent of Republican respondents back comprehensive immigration reform, as do 78 percent of Democrats and 71 percent of independents.

So, doom for Republicans. Amnesty supporters will highlight this poll as proof that people want amnesty, er, a pathway to citizenship, in order to push Republicans to vote for that type of comprehensive immigration legislation. The problem is, what does the question asked mean? Let’s look at it (BTW, the numbers in the excerpt seem to be a bit off from the poll itself, which says 73% important and 26% unimportant)

How important is the issue of comprehensive immigration reform in determining which candidate you support in November?

The question is, what kind of comprehensive immigration reform? I back it, in a manner that will shut down illegal immigration and force as many illegals out of the country as possible, mostly through putting huge burdens on companies that hire illegals (both those who came illegal and those who overstayed their visas) and entities that sponsor them (in regards to those who overstay their visas). It would say if you’re illegal, you are gone, regardless of roots and anchor babies. There would be some carve-outs for those who truly want to be Americans, but those would be minimal.

Let’s also look at something else in the poll: just 3% find immigration to be the issue that concerns them the most. The economy tops the list at 50% in general. Health care at 12%.

The survey, which was conducted in both English and Spanish, found that 41 percent of Hispanic voters “strongly support” comprehensive immigration reform; while 28 percent of white voters and 17 percent of African American voters said the same.

The very fact that it has to be conducted in Spanish, to go with the English, highlights that many people do not care about becoming Americans and being part of our society. Let’s go to the Democrats are doomed article

By comparison, only 28 percent said that immigration reform was “very important” to determining their vote, and 16 percent who said the same of male-female income disparity.

That’s highlighting that almost 90% find that Obamacare would be important for their vote in 2014. So, not very for immigration.

In the congressional districts and states where the 2014 elections will actually be decided, likely voters said they would prefer to vote for a Republican over a Democrat by 7 points, 41 percent to 34 percent. A quarter of voters said they were unsure of their preference.

That said, 25% percent do not know yet, so the GOP needs to focus on what is important to people, not silly garbage like pushing amnesty.

Some other interesting points: people oppose gay marriage by 52-48%. I wonder why there’s no Politico article about that?

People oppose legalizing marijuana by 56-43%.

Only 19% support abortion with no restrictions. 35% want restrictions like parental notification and on late term abortion. 34% want an almost total ban, with allowances for rape, incest, and mother’s life at risk.

Furthermore, 60% say that the debate on Obamacare should not be over.

What this all says is that Republicans should focus on the dismal Obama economy and Ocare, highlighting the negatives under Democrat/Obama leadership, and offer real solutions.

Is It Time For San Francisco Residents To Become Mermaids Cause Climate Change?

That’s sorta the question Warmist Zachary Slobig asks

Is It Time for San Francisco to Declare Defeat in Its Battle With the Pacific?

In a future in which sea levels are expected to rise some three to four feet by the end of the century, San Francisco is in a precarious position—the city is surrounded by water on three sides. Its Pacific face is battered by winter storms and swells that scrape those sandy western fringes, chewing up the southernmost stretch of the coastal road, called the Great Highway. The ocean has slowly, relentlessly clawed at this byway since it was first fully paved in the late 1920s. For nearly a century the city has taken all sorts of approaches to defending its wild border from the Pacific—sea walls, man-made dunes, even gigantic piles of repurposed tombstones fashioned into crude revetments.

Apparently, they have some sort of Master Plan to deal with the problem, which is of course caused by Mankind. But, really, is San Fran Doooooomed by sea rise? Will they see 3 to 4 feet of sea rise by the 2100? The actual data says something quite different from the models

A trend of .66 feet. Big whoop. Like I wrote in regards to Florida sea rise

This is completely in line with the average sea rise over the last 7,000 years during the Holocene. That time period is used because that’s when the massive sea rise from the end of the glacial period ended. One would actually expect much more sea rise during even a low level warm period, since a cool period would see very low to decreasing sea levels, in order to create an average. We should expect more than three quarters of a foot. None of which would mean anthropogenic causation.

Looking at other parts of California

  • San Diego: .68 feet per century
  • La Jolla: .68 feet
  • Newport: .73 feet
  • Los Angeles, which has a nice long data set: .27 feet
  • Santa Monica: .43 feet
  • Alameda: .27 feet
  • And then there’s Crescent City, which has a trend of negative .21 feet, with data going back to 1933, and goes to 2006.

Obviously, Warmists think that models are more important than real world data.

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

NY Times: Grading Obama’s Foreign Policy

Ross Douthat posts a remarkably honest, well, honest for someone who works for the uber-leftist NY Times, piece on the utter miserable failure of Obama’s foreign policy. I’m sure most of you will already implicitly understand all his points, things we Conservatives have already mentioned. Liberals might be surprised, though

(NY Times) SECOND terms are often a time when presidents, balked by domestic opposition, turn to the world stage to secure their legacy — opening doors to China, closing out the Cold War, chasing Middle Eastern peace.

But the global stage hasn’t been a second-term refuge for President Obama; it’s been an arena of setbacks, crises and defeats. His foreign policy looked modestly successful when he was running for re-election. Now it stinks of failure.

Of course, this had to be followed by a whine about Iraq. There couldn’t be a liberal opinion without it. What’s not mentioned by Ross is the constant harping, attacks, etc by Democrats, who almost all voted for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They were cool with the plan until they decided that they could politicize it to attack Bush, what with their Bush Derangement Syndrome and all.

Start with Libya, the site of Obama’s own war of choice. The consuming Republican focus on Benghazi has tended to obscure the fact that post-Qaddafi Libya is generally a disaster area — its government nonfunctional, its territory a safe harbor for jihadists, its former ruler’s weaponry and fighters destabilizing sub-Saharan Africa. (Some of those weapons, for instance, appear to be in the hands of Nigeria’s most-wanted kidnappers, Boko Haram.)

Oh, contraire, Ross, we’ve noted the utter failure of Libya. We noted the huge amount of Islamists streaming into Libya while Obama was engaged in an air war. Welcome to the party.

Then swing northeast to Syria, where this administration’s stated policy is that Bashar al-Assad has to go, and that there is a “red line” — backed by force, if necessary — around the use of chemical weapons. Well, Assad isn’t going; he’s winning. And the White House’s claims of progress on the chemical weapons front were undermined by Secretary of State John Kerry’s acknowledgment last week that “raw data” suggested a “number of instances” in which Assad’s government recently used chlorine gas.

Wait, someone is defying Obama? Quick, get a hashtag going! Head to the West coast to bloviated and whine at a fundraiser!

The picture doesn’t look better when you turn south or east. In the Holy Land, Kerry’s recent push for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations ended in predictable failure, and in Iraq the caldron is boiling and Iranian influence is growing — in part, The New Yorker’s Dexter Filkins suggested last month, because the White House’s indecision undercut negotiations that might have left a small but stabilizing U.S. force in place.

Ross goes on to note the problems with Afghanistan despite Obama’s surge. The failure of the “reset” with Russia. And Ross wonders what will happen with the pivot to Asia. In fact, he has one line, because nothing is really happening except a couple speeches and one quick trip. He notes Bin Laden’s killing, but there is still a resurgence of Islamists.

But recent events do not inspire much confidence. Instead, future defenses of Obama’s foreign policy may boil down to just six words: “At least he didn’t invade Iraq.”

Yeah, hooray! Except for seeing messes in the world and making them worse. Failing to properly engage with our allies while trying to be friends with our enemies/opponents. Insulting our allies. Diminishing America’s standing in the world saying “we’re just another country”. He personally messed up several UN IPCC agreements (though I see that as a win). The man is a fool and an incompetent, in well over his head, and, worse, he doesn’t seem to understand that he’s a fool and an incompetent, and his policies are terrible.

As I’ve done many times, I’ll give Obama props for drone striking Islamists on a constant basis. He seems to like doing that. Really, though, Ross is right, his foreign policy is a mess. He doesn’t know how to make “political friends” with leaders of friendly nations, ones which have been longtime allies of the U.S. He’s even managed to piss of the Canadians! Seriously, that’s pretty darned hard.

Interestingly, you know what’s missing? Any mention of Hillary Clinton, Obama’s Secretary of State for over 4 years. John Kerry is mentioned. But not Hillary. I wonder why?

Nor is there any mention of Joe Biden, who was picked to be Obama’s running mate due to his vast, deep, decades long involvement and knowledge of foreign policy. How’s that working out?

Temporary Theme. Update: Normal Theme Fixed.

Hola. I’m going to use this older theme, which isn’t quite formatted on the sidebars correctly, lots of old stuff, until I figure out what is causing the normal theme to shift forward to another site. Didn’t find anything wrong in HTaccess file, nor in the files for the Violator theme. Has to be something in the sidebar files.

Quick Update: Never mind. I found the issue. Was a ranking badge from Beltway Blips causing the redirection. Fuckers. Happened with a different theme I started switching too, because I messed up the code on my Spirit/Pirate 3.0 theme. Le sigh. Anyhow, fixed.

Hashtag Climatology: What Would You Ask Hotcoldwetdry Leaders?

I know what I’d ask them: say, why do you use so much fossil fuel yourself? What have you done within your own life to reduce your own carbon footprint? Purchasing carbon offsets doesn’t count. That’s like paying speeding tickets because you refuse to obey the speed limits.

Climate change: what is your message for global leaders?

Frustrated at the lack of progress on climate change? If you had your chance, what would you ask global leaders to do?

(Gaby Disandolo delivers the first climate message of the campaign. Photograph: Holly Young)

This September, the UN will hold a Climate Summit in New York to discuss “catalysing action” on the issue of climate change.

Ahead of the event, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon, has called on world leaders to bring “bold pledges” to the summit.

Didn’t get an invite? If you are a climate change campaigner, researcher, policymaker or just passionate about the issue, we want to hear what your one climate ask would be to world leaders.

To take part, simply take a selfie featuring your message and the hashtag #MyClimateAsk. Make sure you include your name, where you live and how you are engaged in the climate change cause. If you are not able to get access to a camera, please share your climate message in text.

Sorry, I won’t be taking a selfie and hashtagging it. Nope. I’m not 14. And I have self respect. And, taking a quick gander through the limited amount of selfies for this hashtag, none are mentioning what they themselves are doing in their own lives.

Surprise: “addressing climate change will affect everything”

Another Warmist let’s the cat out of the bag as to the true intentions of the “climate change” movement

(Des Moines Register) Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie says he feels a sense of relief on the heels of a report that details worsening climate change in Iowa and the nation.

The longtime environmental advocate, who will host President Barack Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience today and Wednesday in Des Moines, said he senses there’s a broader understanding of the issues now.

My understanding is that they are claiming that fossil fuels are bad, yet, Cownie and these other folks will certainly take fossil fueled travel to the meetings.

“It’s no longer, ‘Maybe climate change is happening,’ ” Cownie said. “We have the science and data that prove climate change is happening. We know scientifically what the causes are. Now, we need to set about dealing with it.”

Uh huh. Sure you do. So, what are you going to do about it?

Cownie said addressing climate change will affect everything from the economy to how we power our homes and businesses to our health and how our farmers feed the world.

And there it is: “will affect everything”. Interestingly, all the solutions seem to give Government more and more control. Of course, there’s one problems
