When Is Too Much Too Much?

In a follow up to a follow up, Bob Belvedere at The Camp Of The Saints writes (see my original posts here to here)

Beck reminds me of those who would gather in a church or meeting house while their village was being attacked and who would produce only wails and lamentations while the marauders set fire to the clapboards.

Begin the fight for what is Right and the Light Of God will follow.

I’ve probably mentioned few times over the almost 10 years (come July) that I’ve been blogging that so much of what the left does is death by a 1,000 papercuts. Every day there seems to be something else. Sometimes it’s simply a distraction, sometimes it’s a big issue. Consider the kid from the post regarding the school blocking access to certain websites, like the NRA, the Vatican, and the state GOP. In the past, when Lefties got caught, the would say “sorry, our bad, that was a mistake, someone went to far, we’ll fix it.” And fix it they did. Immediately. They might try it again, later. Nowadays, it’s different

When they get caught now we hear about putting together a study, investigating the issue, or some nonsense, that can take years. We see stonewalling. We’re told it’s a fake issue. That it’s a distraction from the issues that Americans care about. The issue goes on for so long that it loses power. It becomes irrelevant, or simply the norm. Look at the IRS issue. Benghazi. Fast and Furious.

Progressives rarely go for the Big Kill. They are quite content dinking and dunking. Something else I’ve mentioned before is how much they control. The majority of the education system. The Lawyers guild. AMA. AARP. Labor unions. Entertainment. Sports figures follow the progressive lead, because they can monetarily afford to pretend. The government bureaucracies. And so many more. Let’s not forget about the majority of the news media, which allows them to shape public opinion.

Right now they’re going after the military and religious organizations. The major focus seems to be on LGBT “rights” and/or gay marriage. I’m sure there are plenty of gays who will serve with distinction, valor, and patriotism in the military. It’s not about politics for those folks. How many, though, are joining to make a point, and push the service towards their point of view? How many Leftists are doing the same, joining an organization they have historically despised for 40+ years in order to make it something else? How many are getting themselves deep within the religious organizations in order to push them away from their original purpose, and towards a Progressive paradise, away from morality and meaning? Away from the Bible and God? Progressives have been doing all they can to remove religion from public and government places. Well, certain religions. They seem fine with Islam. Perhaps they silently realize that Islamist will blow shit up if Progressives try their schtick with them.

We’re already seeing clergy pushing Leftist notions and joining together with gay marriage advocates. We have private business owners being dragged into Thought Crimes court for refusing to bake wedding cakes for gay marriages. You have the Redskins having their trademark being yanked because it is apparently “hate speech”, racist, bigoted, mean. What of other nasty things that are trademarked? Why are they being ignored. Pick a target. Isolate it. Destroy it.

There are so many assaults on our freedom, on common sense, on religion, on more and more it really is hard to fight back verbally, in the courts, without violence. And that’s what they want. Create conditions where it doesn’t seem reasonable to use force. And, really, do we want to use force? No. That is certainly the last resort. Of course, it would be rather easy, since liberals say guns are bad, and they surely gave up their own, right? Right? I wonder what the Colonists private thoughts were on violent revolution?

At one point we could count on the military and law enforcement being on the side of The People and the Constitution. Can you truly say that today? Do you have a little bit of doubt in your mind about the ability to believe that they would stand with the People? That will grow as Progressives take over the military and police. There are enough squishy Republicans out there that opposition becomes difficult. They will join Democrats in demonizing Conservatives, Tea Party members, Libertarians, patriots, as extremists, as people going to far. They’ll yammer on about reaching out to solve our differences, about tolerance. And the tide of progressivism rolls on.

You look at many of the other tyrannical movements of the 20th century. The fascism of the Nazi Party burned bright, rising fast, then blowing out. The Soviet Union started fast, but took 70 years to go down. The Chinese, though, have been good at looking at the long term, changing tactics, attempting to do things slowly and without violence. Much like the Muslim Brotherhood, which uses the existing systems to push their Islamism, changing the systems from within.

We see brazen violations of the law and constitution by elected officials and government employees and entities. Yet, rarely is anything done. We see our freedoms and morality being cut just a little bit every day. When does it become too much?

Oh, you think we can count on the judiciary? Good luck with that. There are more than enough judges, even Republican ones, who are more interested in advancing progressive ideology than following the Constitution and the Law.

Again, I’ll refer you to Thy Kingdom Fall by Austin Dragon, which lays this death by a 1000 cuts, whereby the religious fight back when it is too late. Now over to a post at protein wisdom, via Bob

Just because you don’t sport epaulettes and a mustache and speak from balconies doesn’t mean you can’t be every bit the fascist as the more cartoonish versions we’ve all become so accustomed to. And those who are willing to burn books would, I have no doubt under the right concentration of circumstances, find a way to rationalize burning the people who wrote them.

It can happen here. And in fact, it is. My advice? Open your eyes.

How many times have I and others highlighted this happening within the Warmist movement? The shutting down of debate, the bannings, the book burnings, the calls for censorship, news outlets refusing to publish comments and/or articles critical of anthropogenic global warming/climate change, getting Skeptics fired? This is just a microcosm of the way Progressives act, and they do it out in most other disciplines that they get their hands on

On a related noted, when it comes to Glenn Beck, I do not hate him. I do not dislike him. I’m not picking on him. Those are a few of the phrases I’ve received in email, castigating me for “attacking” Beck. What we have here is a substantive policy divergence. I might have the same divergence with Hannity and Rush, and other Conservative talkers. I rarely get to listen to other nationally syndicated talkers other than Beck, due to my work schedule. Todd Schnitt tends to be the syndicated host I listen to 2nd most, since he is on at 9pm here in Raleigh, so I’ll catch an hour to hour and a half a week.

We are allowed to have differences of opinion. There are surely issues that I agree more with John and Jeffrey than Conservatives. I don’t always agree with Gumball, Guitar, and others. Conservatives do not walk in lockstep. I work the 12-9 shift 2-3 times a week. I’ll listen to Beck  for an hour at the gym, while taking a shower, and on the way to work (except when he gets weepy, starts a too deep monologue, and a few other annoyances). Days off I will catch him if I go to gym in morning, otherwise Rush or Hannity for an hour. Sometimes I’ll flip over to iHeart radio for some metal. If I hated Beck, would I listen to him?

Regardless, Beck wants to take the use of force off the table. He railed against that same notion when it came to Iran. Why would we want to remove the notion of the use of force when it comes to saving our country? When is too much too much?

Gore: Fighting Climate Change Like Civil Rights Movement

Says the guy

  1. whose father was against passage of the Civil Rights Act, and voted against it, and sent young Al, Jr to private school without Blacks
  2. who sold his failing television station to a massive fossil fuels funded network, Al Jazeera

Here we go

WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – Former Vice President Al Gore compared the civil rights movement to the fight against climate change while speaking to graduates at Princeton University on class day.

Gore explained that before a change can happen, American society must agree that there is a problem to begin with. The Democrat recalled a moment during his childhood in the South where a friend made a racist remark and his other friends were quick to tell the kid to “shut up.” They informed him that his way of thinking was no longer acceptable.

He then went on to explain that progress can be made for climate change through changing the discussion, much like the civil rights movement.

“After the conversation was changed, the laws were changed,” Gore stated.

Changed with no thanks to his father and lots of other Democrats.

“It took some time, and the administration didn’t want to go along with that, but over time it was seen as the right thing to do,” Gore said. “So there will be a conversation, not only about divestment or the EPA’s announcement today, but about the future of human civilization, and I’m going to ask you to help win that conversation.”

Well, Gore is certainly winning with all that oil money for selling Current TV, wouldn’t you say?

Liberals Proclaim Obamacare Rate Shock No Big Deal, Since Other People Pay For It

Well, of course they do. They’re all about Someone Else bearing the burden for the insane policies of Liberals

(Avik Roy, Forbes) Over the past twelve months, there has been an energetic debate among health policy researchers about the extent to which Obamacare will increase the underlying cost of individually-purchased health insurance: what observers have come to call “rate shock.” Yesterday, the Manhattan Institute published the most comprehensive study yet on the topic, analyzing premium data from 3,137 U.S. counties, and finding an average rate hike of 49 percent. In response, left-wing bloggers are trying out a new talking point: that rate shock doesn’t matter, because taxpayer-funded subsidies will bear the higher costs.

There are a number of reasons why the underlying cost of health insurance matters. First: not everyone is eligible for subsidies. If your income is above 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, you don’t qualify. Second: subsidies don’t always make up for rate shock. If your premiums go up by $200, and Obamacare gives you a subsidy for $120, your premiums have still gone up by $80. Our interactive map explains the interaction of these factors for every U.S. state—just click on the “Who Qualifies?” and “Your Decision” tabs and see for yourself.

Third: subsidies aren’t free.  They’re financed by taxes: not just taxes on “the rich,” whoever they are, but on average Americans. So if Obamacare increases the underlying cost of insurance, taxpayers are hit with a double whammy: higher insurance costs for themselves, and higher taxes to subsidize those costs for other people.

This reminds me (again) of one of the quotes of 2013 “Of course, I want people to have health care,” Vinson said. “I just didn’t realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally.”

I’m struck by how contemptuous the left can be about these issues, especially given the moral obligation of government to spend taxpayer dollars in the most efficient possible manner

The loudest promoter of the “rate shock doesn’t matter because subsidies!” argument is Steve Benen, a blogger for MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. Benen described the Manhattan Institute analysis as “deceptive” because many people “are buying coverage subsidized through Obamacare.” It’s one thing to explain that subsidies will defray the cost of Obamacare-based plans for certain low-income people: they will. But it is economically obtuse for Benen to argue that studying the underlying cost of health insurance is “deceptive.” It’s especially remarkable given that Benen regularly contends that there is a vast “wonk gap” between the right and the left—in the left’s favor.

Mr. Roy also notes that apples and oranges talking point offered by liberals, whereby they claim that costs are totally different, because Ocare requirements mean more coverages. Yet, that breaks down, because the higher costs are a direct result of Ocare mandates, some of which are required by the law itself, some, such as the contraception mandate, were invented by Team Obama. And at the end of the day, real people are affected by the costs of Ocare. Virtually no one is saving $2,500 a year, as Obama and his Democrat minions promised. Most are paying more than they had been previously. Their premiums went up, and are expected to jump more this year. Their deductibles are sky high. Is it really health insurance if you cannot afford the deductible? How many lower middle class folks, forced by law to obtain insurance or pay a fine/fee/tax can afford an average deductible of $5,081?

Liberals think Everyone Else, not themselves, should pay for this boondoggle. Surprise.

Illegal Alien Supporting Groups Sue Sheriff Arpaio For Following Law

Happy Friday! Care to read something unbelievably insane?

(Reuters) Immigration rights groups in a lawsuit filed on Wednesday accused Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio of overstepping his bounds as a local official by using anti-identity theft laws to target undocumented immigrants in workplace raids.

Puente Arizona, an immigrant rights groups, filed the lawsuit in federal court, along with two women who were arrested by Arpaio’s deputies last year and a local minister who contends the sheriff is squandering his tax dollars by conducting the operations.

The lawsuit represents the latest challenge by advocates for immigrants against Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County who bills himself as “America’s Toughest Sheriff” and has become a divisive figure in the national immigration debate.

Arpaio is the only local law enforcement official in Arizona enforcing state laws that make it illegal for a person to use information belonging to someone else, such as a Social Security number, to obtain employment, said Dan Pochoda, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona, which is one of the groups representing the plaintiffs.

“We know from past experience that when the (Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office) gets into the business of immigration enforcement, it’s a recipe for discrimination and abuse,” Pochoda said in a statement.

Got that? He’s divisive for *gasp* enforcing immigration law. It’s a waste of taxpayer dollars for enforcing immigration law. And the kicker, he’s the only law enforcement official who’s concerned with stopping illegals from engaging in identity theft, a criminal act which costs American citizens huge amounts of money, both directly and indirectly, and can often cause significant problems in the personal lives of American citizens. I’m sure I do not need to explain the ins and outs and costs of identity theft.

The amazing thing here is that Sheriff Arpaio, who takes an oath to uphold the law, is not being lauded for doing his job, he is being slammed. One would think he was doing a Good Thing, and all the other sheriffs would be condemned. From the comments

Please tell me every single one of you reading this article had to double-back and read that again to make sure you’re not going crazy. Let’s get this straight, this man is being sued because he’s trying to prevent the illegal use of an American citizen’s Social Security number that could have dire effects on that person’s financial security and family’s welfare and the ACLU of Arizona feels he should be stopped from carrying out his duty to protect Americans. W T F????

And

So now the court is going to entertain a lawsuit for someone enforcing a law? And the justification is partially based on the fact that other law officials don’t enforce the law? What a can of worms that would open up for our lawyers to have whole new areas to frivolously pursue. Sure enforcing the law would result in primarily targeting illegal immigrants. That is the way they hide. But they are illegally here, breaking one law, and illegally using identity documentation, breaking another. Why have laws if we are not going to enforce them?

And

So we are now going after the people that up hold the law. And praising the that don’t. To the people that think it’s OK for these illegals to be here, talk to the thousands of people that have been harmed by these invaders to our country. they drive around no insurance, They kill people. they bring drugs into our country no problem, our president lets them go. He says there future votes for his party. Lets vote everyone out that ignores their duty to uphold the laws. And put in jail the ones that violate them.

Those are some of the top rated comments, each with hundreds and hundreds of likes. And, here’s one with 1.2K likes

I wonder which laws I can break, and then have everybody feel so sorry for my plight that Congress and the President will consider special action to make everything work out just fine for me?

Meanwhile, Drudge runs this nice wink shot (story here)

Crossed at Right Wing News.

More: The Lonely Conservative notes that the illegals are bringing all sorts of diseases with them. Furthermore, she notes that as the Border Patrol is dealing with the flood of kids and such, terrorists could flood across the border and get away with it. Lest you think that is absurd, law enforcement has already stopped and caught many Middle Eastern men and women with links to Islamic radical groups coming across the southern border.

Pause Excuse #13: Colder Nights Getting Colder

Hot on the heals of excuse #12, “lousy data“, Warmists trot out excuse #13

(The Hockey Schtick) A paper published today in Environmental Research Letters finds a new excuse [#13 by my count] for the 15+ year ‘pause’ or ‘hiatus’ of global warming:

“a coherent cooling pattern across the Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes that has emerged in the recent 15 years and is not reproduced by the models. This regional inconsistency between models and observations might be a key to understanding the recent hiatus in global mean temperature warming.”

Thus, although warm extremes are getting warmer, cold nights in the N Hemisphere are getting colder, not warmer as predicted by global warming theory. How could increased CO2 cause “a coherent cooling pattern across the Northern Hemisphere mid-latitudes” over the past 15+ years? Inquiring minds want to know; according to the authors,

“precisely identifying the mechanisms behind the observed regional cooling patterns in extreme cold temperatures lies beyond the scope of this paper.”

Well, fortunately, Warmists will surely Blame Mankind for the cold nights getting colder because of “climate change”.

Climate Change Is Like The Mafia

Interesting opinion piece by James Lambard

Climate change is a protection racket

The mafioso, call him Guido, ran a protection racket.

The business model, simple: Give Guido money and your enterprise did not burn down nor have its windows broken. You continue to have the use of both legs. A basic, criminal, wealth transfer scheme. Replication, inevitable.

The new government-sponsored scam, climate change, bears striking similarities to Guido’s “thing.” While Guido operates in the shadows, climate change enjoys enthusiastic support from progressive media, radical environmentalists, politicians, and a large portion of a poorly informed and apathetic electorate. Yes, a basic, criminal, wealth transfer scheme. Replication, complete. (snip)

You get the point, threats of disaster leading to a massive wealth transfer through, carbon taxes, carbon credits (convertible to money and tradable) higher taxes on nearly everything, electricity rates “would necessarily skyrocket“ (Barack Obama), massive dislocations in standards of living, command and control by government, of nearly every aspect of life.

To whom do you suppose this massive resultant wealth transfer is designed to accrue? I am perhaps naïve, but I suspect Guido did well with his wealth transfer scheme. We must ask who this new Guido is. Guido, remember, was believable, not benevolent. Are we expecting benevolence from those who have now grasped and manipulate the levers of intimidation? I am afraid that we already know the answer.

Makes sense. Make sure to read the whole thing.

Powerline also delves into the “climate mafia” meme, in regards to the sacking of Caleb Rossiter.

Taxpayer Funded High School Supposedly Blocks Certain Websites Because “Hate”

Let’s note right off the bat that this is an accusation by a student. That said, would this really surprise you?

(Daily Caller) Controversy is flaring up at a Connecticut high school after a student alleged that its internet filter is biased against conservative websites.

Andrew Lampart, a senior at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, told a local Fox station that he was conducting research for an in-class debate on gun control when he discovered that many pro-gun sites, such as National Rifle Association’s homepage, were blocked by the school’s filter. Meanwhile, anti-gun sites remained easily accessible, he said.

Lampart says he then expanded his search and found additional red flags. The state Republican Party’s website was blocked, but not the state Democratic Party’s. Pro-life groups like the National Right to Life were blocked, but not Planned Parenthood or NARAL Pro-Choice America. Even Christianity.com and the Vatican’s homepage fell on the wrong side of the digital barrier, though islam-guide.org and al-islam.org, both top Google search results for “Islam,” went unscathed. Each of the blocked sites was struck down by the schools SonicWall filter which labeled them as impermissible “Political/Advocacy Groups” sites.

In a letter to the Woodbury Board of Education, Lampart said that he approached local superintendent Jody Goegler, who told him that some political sites needed to be blocked to prevent “hate speech” from seeping into the school. Lampart approached the school board, he said, after no action appeared to have been taken to allow more sites.

Fortunately, the Board of Education is all over this

(Board Chairman John Chapman) sent Fox CT an email saying, “the Board appreciated hearing the comments from Andrew and agree that he has raised an important issue that warrants further investigation.”

Who thinks that said investigation will come to nothing?

This is simply a continuation of the the process whereby Liberals/Progressives deem certain things “hate” in order to shut down opponents. And if you support the hate, you are now a hater, and need to be ostracized, demeaned, and destroyed.
