Vox: How to stop global warming, in 7 steps or something

And,  as usual,  something is missing. The article by hyper-alarmist Brad Plumer is referencing the silly report release from the highly politicized and far left IPCC. I’m skipping right to their “steps”

(Vox) 1) Right now, the world is failing badly at its climate goals

That’s step one? Really? Maybe they wouldn’t be failing if warmists would practice what they preach.

2) Hitting those goals will require sharp emissions cuts — and soon

Not so much a step as a whine.

3) Cutting emissions will require a massive technological push

The primary way they think this could be done is through… You got it…. a carbon tax. At least it resembles a “step”.

4) We’d also likely need to pull carbon out of the atmosphere

Except,   those technologies are largely imaginary, which even the IPCC admits.

5) Cutting emissions will cost us — but so will global warming

That old canard of Hotcoldwetdry killing economies. Funny how the economic activity during periods of rising temperatures have actually been very good for humanity.

6) Countries will have to start working together for a change

How’d that work out with The Kyoto Protocol? Almost no signatory countries came close to their goals.

7) Even if we cut emissions, we’ll still need to adapt to a hotter world

And then we’ll have to adapt to a cooler world when another Holocene cool period kicks in.

Obviously, any step that includes Believers getting off their duffs, giving up on spreading awareness, and walking the talk was completely avoided. As usual.

Whew: Duke Hospital patient tests negative for Ebola

Some good news

(WRAL) Preliminary test results on a Duke University Hospital patient who developed a fever Sunday after recently returning from Liberia have come back negative for Ebola, state health officials said Monday morning.

There are still more tests to perform, hopefully they are all negative.

One problematic issue is the question of how many people will get this info? I saw it last night in the breaking news scroller during the Sunday night football game on NBC. I think you had the same on other stations. Will the media make the same attempt to disseminate this?

UN IPCC: All Use Of Fossil Fuels Needs To Stop To Save The Climate

As expected, the report is continuing the theme of apocalyptic doom

(Fox News) Climate change is happening, it’s almost entirely man’s fault and limiting its impacts may require reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero this century, the U.N.’s panel on climate science said Sunday.

The fourth and final volume of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s giant climate assessment didn’t offer any surprises, nor was it expected to since it combined the findings of three earlier reports released in the past 13 months.

But it underlined the scope of the climate challenge in stark terms. Emissions, mainly from the burning of fossil fuels, may need to drop to zero by the end of this century for the world to have a decent chance of keeping the temperature rise below a level that many consider dangerous. Failure to do so, which could require deployment of technologies that suck greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere, could lock the world on a trajectory with “irreversible” impacts on people and the environment, the report said. Some impacts are already being observed, including rising sea levels, a warmer and more acidic ocean, melting glaciers and Arctic sea ice and more frequent and intense heat waves.

There are your marching orders, Warmists! You need to give up all use of fossil fuels. Which is an interesting assessment, considering how often Warmists themselves use fossil fuels, not to mention how much they use. Since fossil fuels are so evil, will the UN hold their 2014 COP (Conference on the Parties) via Skype, Go To Meeting, or something similar? Because getting 10K or so people to Lima, Peru, will use quite a bit of fossil fuels, wouldn’t you say?

Anyhow, as far as all this goes, Bob Tisdale writes

Anthony Watts’s post Meh, same old ‘gloom and doom’ from the IPCC over new climate report at WattsUpWithThat prompted this one. I started to write a comment on that thread that began with, The IPCC is nothing more than a… and I went on from there, trying with some success to limit my word count. But I didn’t post it. I figured it would make for a great topic of discussion all by itself, with everyone adding their own continuation to that preface.

So to start the ball rolling, here’s what I came up with.

The IPCC is nothing more than a report-writing entity:

  1. that was created by politicians for use by politicians to achieve an political-agenda-driven goal
  2. that relies on politician-financed climate models that were designed, and continue to operate, with the single-minded intent of showing bad things will happen in the future if we continue to consume fossil fuels.

The IPCC and their reports provide no value to anyone other than the politicians who created that body.

He goes on to ask people to continue he “The IPCC is nothing more than a…” meme. I don’t have much more to add, because he is on the money, except that I’d not that this is about a far far left Progressive (nice fascist) political-agenda-driven goal. I’d also note that the IPCC is a hypocritical organization which use vast amounts of energy and fossil fuels to tell Other People how to live their lives, preferably by legislative force.

Anyhow, if you don’t like the Fox News article, which actually came from the Associate Press, how about the BBC?

Fossil fuels should be phased out by 2100 says IPCC

The unrestricted use of fossil fuels should be phased out by 2100 if the world is to avoid dangerous climate change, a UN-backed expert panel says.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says in a stark report that most of the world’s electricity can – and must – be produced from low-carbon sources by 2050.

Fortunately, the IPCC has granted a 100 year reprieve from doom. Originally, they were claiming doom by 2000.

Will all the leftist news outlets hyping the IPCC report give up their own use of fossil fuels? Will Warmists? Will the UN IPCC? Good luck with that.

Raleigh N&O Endorses Kay Hagan Because…..She’s Not Thom Tillis

Other than being a Democrat and not Thom Tillis, the Raleigh N&O editorial board has a tough time providing a reason to vote for her. I’m going to blow by the “outside money” bit, which I somewhat agree with, when it comes to money from outside NC, and they do not mention the huge amounts spent on Kay, and get to the meat

(Raleigh N&O) But at the end of the TV blitz is an election. Voters will have to choose. Our choice is Kay Hagan. We wish we could say the senator earned our support by her advocacy, but this race full of money has been bereft of real issues, ideas or solutions. Hagan has made the race less about governing the nation and more about Tillis’ role in shaping the dismal record of the state legislature.

They have a good point: what policies, exactly, has Hagan run on? The N&O apparently had a hard time finding any. That “dismal record of the state legislature”? The People of NC wanted those policies passed. Things like Castle Doctrine, ie, Stand Your Ground. Expansion of gun rights. Tax decreases. And so on.

Tillis has run mostly against President Obama. When he does focus on his actual opponent, he talks about what she hasn’t done. In the contest’s second debate, he asked of Hagan, “Tell me what you’re proud of. Tell me what you’ve done. Tell me the promises you’ve fulfilled. That’s what this election’s about.”

Kay wasn’t able to answer. Because she votes with Obama 96% of the time. 99% in 2014. Tillis has noted the teacher pay increases and the increases to education, which, of course, Kay and her backers lie and say it was a decrease.

But beyond the vacuous ads and the candidates’ talking points, this race really is about something. Indeed, it’s about two things.

• No. 1, it’s about keeping a Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate. A Republican takeover will intensify the standoff between the president and congressional Republicans. It will generate efforts to cut off funding and produce bills booby-trapped against vetoes. That would be bad for government, bad for the economy and bad for a nation already discouraged by the slowness of the economic recovery and Congress’ lack of action.

And that’s it right there. The N&O doesn’t even proclaim impartiality, but are advocates for Democrats. Furthermore, the fail to note the large amount of poison-pill bills pushed in the Democrat controlled Senate. Going further, while the GOP controlled Congress would surely pass some booby trapped bills (that’s politics, people), what they really mean is legislation that the majority favors, while Obama opposes it.

Tillis’ idea of what government should do is that it should do less. “It’s very simple: Government needs to get out of the way,” he said in the second debate.

On the flip side, Hagan and the N&O think the government should be even more involved in our lives. Way more involved. Immensely involved.

The truth is that Hagan – often to the frustration of liberals – is a middle-of-the-road type. And she’s strong in two areas that Republicans favor and that are important for North Carolina’s economy: the military and banking. As a member of the Senate’s Committee on Armed Services, she has been a strong advocate for the state’s military bases and veterans. As a member of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and a former employee of North Carolina National Bank, a predecessor of Charlotte-based Bank of America, she understands the needs of the banking industry but also stands up for consumers.

Hey, they finally say something positive about Hagan! Hooray. Near the end of the editorial. And, in fairness, she has been a good proponent of the military. But, that’s it. There’s nothing else, except that she’s a supposed moderate. Who votes with Obama 96% of the time. This is all about supporting Democrats. The N&O has almost never supported a Republicans. Kay Hagan has done almost nothing for North Carolina during her six years in office. She enthusiastically voted for the Stimulus (which she benefited from) and Obamacare, among other pieces of legislation, which were against the wishes of the People of NC.

And Now We Have A Possible Ebola Case In North Carolina

Hey, remember when Obama said Ebola won’t make it to America? And how just a few days ago he continued to say that travel bans were silly? Because keeping people who potentially have a disease with a 60% mortality rate, which causes your insides to liquify, out of the country is just dumb, right?

(WRAL)  The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is monitoring a patient at Duke Unversity Hospital who traveled from Liberia and has developed a fever.

Officials said the patient departed Liberia and arrived Friday at Newark (NJ) Liberty International Airport, which is one of five airports in the nation that has begun screening travelers from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone for fever and other signs of illness linked to the Ebola virus.

This will hopefully turn out to be nothing. But, we continue to see these potential cases pop up, like the one in Oregon. Where the person came from Liberia, too. And if either of these people, if not both, end up testing positive for Ebola, you have to wonder how many people they came into contact during their time here in the States. How many people in airports, who can then take the disease with them to other areas of the country, potentially exposing other people.

BTW, with two days to go, this will certainly not help Kay Hagan or any other North Carolina Democrats who were against travel bans, some of whom are parsing their beliefs due to polls.

And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

Surprisingly, Despite Those Evil Republicans, NC Blacks Are Voting In Great Numbers

Democrats live for several things: abortion on demand (well, the babies don’t live), fomenting division, false narratives, fear-mongering, and race-baiting. These pretty much allow them to avoid discussing their damaging policies. Here’s another interesting example from Mother Jones

Republicans Tried to Suppress the Black Vote in North Carolina. It’s Not Working.

Thousands more African-Americans have already turned out to vote this year than in 2010. Here’s how Democrats are doing it.

In essence, Mother Jones is race-baiting while admitting that Democrat hysteria about disenfranchising Black voters over North Carolina’s new voter laws is a bunch of stinky mule fritters.

IN 2013, North Carolina Republicans, led by Hagan’s opponent, state house speaker Thom Tillis, passed a far-reaching voting law that curtails early voting and eliminates same-day registration. The Justice Department sued North Carolina over the law, charging it was discriminatory and would depress minority turnout.

Not mentioned is that the Justice Department lost, and lost badly. Also not mentioned is that North Carolina’s measures that kicked in this year are typically in line with a majority of the rest of the States. Many Democrat states are more restrictive than North Carolina. Doing away with same day registration? Most states do not allow it. No-excuse early voting? Again, most states did not allow before NC passed the legislation. Reducing the number of early voting days from 17 to 10? 33 States have early voting. The others don’t. North Carolina extended the hours and increased the polling places.

Strangely, again, all this seems to have failed to suppress the Black vote, as the Dem talking points said it would

As of Thursday, 24 percent of early voters in North Carolina were African-American, according to records from the state board of elections. That’s up from just 17 percent at the same point during the last midterm elections in 2010.

Huh. Interesting. Much of that is due to Kay Hagan’s ground game, along with far left groups, but this clearly shows that Blacks can, in fact, get out the vote. It also shows the patronizing way in which Democrats treat and think about Blacks.

Democrats have spent $1 million on ads aired on black radio stations. The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee partnered with the Congressional Black Caucus this month to send black lawmakers on a bus tour through North Carolina and five other battleground states. And Hagan’s campaign is collaborating extensively with black clergy across the state and roughly 150 black small business owners like Smith who are helping turn out voters this year.

That ad was a serious bit of race-baiting, played exclusively on urban radio stations, which actually linked North Carolina’s new stand your ground law with the death of Trayvon Martin. There was also quite a bit of other shenanigans from Democrats along the race-baiting line.

Smith adds that anger over the August shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, will also bring people in her community out on Tuesday. “It was more than just him,” she notes, referring to the police brutality she witnesses regularly in her community. “You have some in the system that say, ‘I’m gonna hide behind this badge and use it for injustice instead of justice’…To us it feels like it’s racist.”

Um, OK. That being in a state hundreds of miles. But, we can see how Democrats have whipped up Blacks into a frenzy.

T-omnis Cox says he feels like a potential Michael Brown. A 23-year-old who works at a chicken plant in eastern North Carolina, he was hanging out in front of a corner liquor store in Goldsboro last Thursday evening. “It’s hard out here in the world,” he says. “Every day, we’re ducking from cops, we’re ducking from law.” Cox says he’s going to vote for Hagan because “Republicans don’t care about the poor.”

Again, interesting, since Democrats have controlled the General Assembly for most of the last 100 years, along with the Governors mansion. One would think they would be upset with Democrats, but, Dems do a wonderful job in brainwashing Blacks to get them to vote against their best interests. Namely, to get them to vote “D”.

In fact, almost 700,000 people voted early this year, which outpaced 2010 by tens of thousands, despite the shorted days. Perhaps one day Black voters will realize in bulk that they are being used be Democrats.

Crossed at Right Wing News.

Are You Ready For Higher Taxes Due To Govt “Climate Change” Regulation?

I mentioned Friday that Team Obama was going to release all sorts of papers and a supposed “climate change” plan Friday, and now we have a few more details

(The Hill) The Obama administration released thousands of pages on Friday documenting federal agencies’ vulnerabilities to climate change and what those agencies plan to do about it.

In all, 38 agencies released climate change adaptation reports and sustainability plans to address climate threats and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the federal government.

Many of these “plans” mean costs for running those 38 agencies will increase, which means less money for core missions, which means Democrats will want to take an even bigger bite out of citizen paychecks.

The Postal Service is worried about “increased flooding, rising sea levels and more intense weather events” that could “disrupt its ability to provide mail service and increase costs for maintaining infrastructure.”

Fortunately, more and more people are forgoing the use of the USPS.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) calls climate change “one of the top public health challenges of our time.”

Fortunately, everyone will be forced to get crappy Ocare plans which they cannot afford to use.

NASA found that 66 percent of its assets are within 16 feet of mean sea level, and that beach erosion is encroaching on the nation’s “access to space.”

Fortunately, NASA barely bothers with Space anymore.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will issue design and construction standards for new buildings to be 30 percent more sustainable and cost effective.

Well, hey, no problem there, the FBI isn’t allowed to investigate a lot of issues, thanks to our highly politicized Attorney General.

Under the sustainability plans, other agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency will cut heating and cooling loads in its labs.

No mention whether the Obama White House will change their own energy consumption patterns to comply. Nor anything about Obama significantly reducing his massive use of fossil fuels to campaign, fundraise, vacation, and play golf.

What does all this mean? Democrats pushing for higher taxes to pay for it all.
