Pelosi Slaps Obama, Says A Hillary Clinton Win Would Give House Back To Dems

In the years Barack Obama has been President, he has more of a hindrance for elected Democrats than a help. They’ve lost House twice, with historic losses in 2010 and 2014. They’ve hemorrhaged Senate seats, leading to the complete loss of the Senate in 2014. In State government

As Amy Walter notes for the Cook Political Report, Democrats lost big at all levels of government, including the states. “Today,” she writes, “about 55 percent of all state legislative seats in the country are held by Republicans. That’s the largest share of GOP state legislators since the 1920s.” What’s more, “just 11 states have an all Democratic-controlled legislature,” and Democrats hold single-party control in just seven states. By contrast, “Republicans have a legislative majority in 30 states, including the battleground states of Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina,” and single-party control in most of the South.

The GOP now is also in control of a majority of governor’s mansions in the States. So, how to read this from Nancy Pelosi?

(The Hill) Rep. Nancy Pelosi says Democrats can recapture control of the House in 2016 by riding Hillary Clinton’s coattails.

“Yes, we can win the House,” the California Democrat said during a sit-down interview in her Capitol office.

“If she runs, she will win the nomination. And if she’s our nominee, she clearly — I mean, the campaign, the joint effort — would be one that could not only take her into office but would [pull Democrats to victory],” Pelosi said.

“There’s opportunity, all kinds of statistics now about if the Democrats have a presidential candidate who … wins by 52 percent — that’s over 20 [House] seats,” Pelosi added. “And so 53 [percent] is a victory [for House Democrats].”

In 2012, Democrats only gained back 8 seats, though, to be fair, Obama only got to 51.1% of the popular vote. And, of course, Pelosi claimed in 2010 that Dems would keep the House, and in 2012 and 2014 claimed they would retake the House. Hey, she has to say that. But, she has never said anything about riding Obama’s coattails while he’s been president, because Obama is in it for Obama. He hasn’t care much for electing other Democrats.

Smart Power: Semi-Retired President Can’t Help Chewing Gum

Mailing it in

(Times Of India) In an ungainly sight, cameras caught US President Brack Obama chewing gum during the Republic Day parade on Monday.

In the picture captured by cameras and posted on Twitter by some users, Obama was spotted removing his chewing gum while PM Modi was seen trying to explain something to the US president.

Allahpundit wonders if he was chewing nicotine gum. He also points out that Bush was quite a bit more popular in India than Obama. Really, though, Bush was typically more popular than Obama with leaders in nations around the world. Not necessarily his policies, but his ability to reach out to leaders, to talk to them, to include them, to treat them as equals and partners, to listen to them. To create international relationships as POTUS. Obama barely talks to the elected officials in his own Party, and has barely spent any time creating international relationships, other than a few ill-timed selfies. Obama just doesn’t seem to want to put the work in. Nothing surprising in the least.

And, yeah, quite a few India citizens were very unhappy with the gum chewing.

Apparently, King Abdullah hated Obama’s guts, too. Not too sure that’s a bad thing, but, Saudi, for good or bad, is an important regional ally.

Cape Wind Project Dealt Major Blow

Sadly, what should have been a fantastic way to provide electricity to Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, and Cape Cod has turned into a major boondoggle. First, you had several senators, including Democrats Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, doing all they could to block the project. Then the costs escalated well beyond what was originally stated. Then we learned that the power output would be much lower than originally estimated. Now

(Fox News)  An ambitious and controversial push to erect America’s first offshore wind farm has been dealt what some call a potentially “fatal” blow after two utility companies pulled out of commitments to buy energy from the lagging operation.

The $2.6 billion Cape Wind project, a private operation benefiting from millions in federal subsidies, is attempting to pioneer offshore wind energy in pursuit of an eco-friendly, sustainable energy supply. Wind turbines would be installed off the coast of Massachusetts’ Cape Cod in Nantucket Sound.

But Cape Wind is now in limbo after utility companies terminated huge purchase agreements. They pulled out after the project failed to meet two requirements by Dec. 31: to secure financing and begin construction.

The wind farm was relying on NSTAR and National Grid to purchase a combined 77.5 percent of its offshore wind power.

But Greg Sullivan, a former inspector general of Massachusetts who now works at the Pioneer Institute in Boston, said Cape Wind was struggling to find a buyer for the rest of the energy.

“And because they couldn’t do that, they had to let the deadline slip with the utility companies. And they walked,” Sullivan said. “And I would be very doubtful they would come back.”

I’m betting that the people in Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Nantucket thought the energy would come directly to them, rather than being sold to the electric company and sent back. That’s they way it was portrayed originally.

Here’s an interesting point

Cape Wind argues the deadline to secure funding should be extended, saying the project was overwhelmed by lawsuits, wasting time needed to meet the requirements.

Pizzi agreed. “If you have to fight something in court for ten years … it’s going to take a lot more time to break even and/or become profitable,” he said.

And where did those suits come from? Democrat Senators and environmentalists. Weird, eh?

Jeb Bush: “We Should Politely Ask Illegals To Leave”

And some wonder why Conservatives are less than enthusiastic over a Jeb Bush run

(Breitbart) This weekend in San Francisco while speaking to the National Automobile Dealers Association, former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL) said, “First and foremost we need to control our border.”

“The 40 percent of the people that have come here illegally came with a legal visa and overstayed their bounds,” he added. “We ought to be able to figure out where they are and politely ask them to leave.”

State and local enforcement should partner with the federal government to encourage illegal aliens to return to their home countries in a “compassionate” way, Bush continued.

Or, we could implement tough rules, as I’ve mentioned many times, that put a huge burden on those who employ illegals and/or educate them, as well as house them, give them loans, etc, making it virtually impossible for illegals to obtain jobs, schooling, and housing. No social services, no government money, nothing. A good chunk of those who overstay their visas were here for jobs or college. Since they are sponsoring the people with VISAS, they would be in charge of keeping track, and the minute the visa expires they would need to inform the government and terminate their relationship with the now illegal.

I’m trying to find something about Jeb Bush which would make him palatable as the Republican nominee, but, so far, nothing. Most of his policies seem to stretch beyond “Democrat-lite”.

Meanwhile, Chris Christie has launched a PAC that allows him to raise money in a potential White House bid.

And Sarah Palin

“Without putting any words in my mouth, you can absolutely say that I’m seriously interested,” said Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, in the lobby of the Marriott late Friday night. But in the same conversation, she appeared to downplay her interest, suggesting she is merely keeping her option open.

Just, no.

Winter Storm Juno To Potentially Cripple Northeast (Cause Climate Change)

Or, as it is usually known, winter. The big pull at Memeorandum is this Weather Channel article, but it has been updated

(Weather Channel) Millions of people in the Northeast are bracing for Winter Storm Juno, which threatens to become a major snowstorm Monday through Wednesday with the potential for blizzard conditions and more than 2 feet of snow.

The high confidence in forecast wind and snowfall led the National Weather Service to issue blizzard warnings well in advance of the storm from the New Jersey shore all the way to Downeast Maine, including the cities of New York City, Boston, Providence, Hartford and Portland. Most of the warnings are in effect from Monday afternoon or evening through late Tuesday night.

There are winter storm watches, advisories, and warnings running from way down the Virginia coast all the way up to the entire state of Maine. A blizzard warning is in effect along the coast running from southern NJ all the way up to the end of the Maine coastline, which could bring “Widespread accumulations of 1 to 2 feet likely with some areas picking up over 2 feet.” The heaviest snow will be in New England region. Also, because of the type of storm, there are coastal flooding warnings, creating huge waves. Plus, we can add in high winds.

Of course, we should expect this

(Mashable) To put 30 inches of snow into context, if this amount were to fall in New York as some forecasts suggest, it would break New York’s all-time snowfall record, which was 26.9 inches set in February 2006. Interestingly, five out of New York’s top 10 all-time snowfall totals have all occurred since the year 2000, potentially in keeping with an overall trend toward more precipitation extremes associated with climate change.

And

(Decode Science) Is There A connection To Global Warming? A Good Bet

All models of climate change predict an increase in extreme weather. If Garbanzo Bean (WT note: Decode Science has decided to call it that rather than Juno) drops more than 20 inches of snow in New York, it will be the sixth time on record. Four of the snowfalls will have been within the last 20 years.

Does this storm ‘prove’ global warming is real? No. But it would be foolish to ignore the totality of evidence that screams that the burning of fossil fuels is raising the temperature of the earth at an alarming rate.

And, of course, people on Twitter are freaking out

Those are just a taste of the moonbattery (climabattery?) from Warmists.

There’s No Better Way To Highlight A Warming World Than Snowmen

We already know that the thousands who’ve descended on Davos, partly to discuss “climate change”, took fossil fueled vehicles and flights (up to 1700 private jets, among them), and are massive climahypocrites. Nothing unusual there. Nor should we be surprised by the photograph that accompanies the UK Guardian story

The first day of the World Economic Forum in Davos was dominated by calls for 2015 to be a year of action on climate change. But while some in the business community worry about sustainability, there is plenty of evidence that the vast bulk of business executives give it no consideration at all.

Apparently, a 0.02C increase in 2014 makes it so hot that we can make snowmen.

Former US vice-president Al Gore teamed up with pop star Pharrell Williams to launch a second round of Live Earth concerts to raise awareness before crucial UN talks in November.

He accused fossil fuel companies in particular of using the atmosphere as “an open sewer” for carbon emissions, which are in danger of driving global warming to ruinous levels.

How’d the two travel to Davos?

Huckabee: “A beheading is a far greater threat to an American than a sunburn”

I’ve never been a big fan of Mike Huckabee as a presidential candidate, he is entirely too much of a social conservative warrior for my taste. That said, he seems like a good guy, I enjoyed his show on Fox when I ran across it, and he’s a big believer in environmentalism. But, can we trust him on “climate change”?

(Politico) Mike Huckabee mocked the notion that climate change is a major threat to Americans in a speech to conservative activists Saturday.

“A beheading is a far greater threat to an American than a sunburn,” cracked Huckabee, referring to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, and its tactic of beheading its enemies. The line drew laughter and applause from the grassroots faithful at Rep. Steve King’s Iowa Freedom Summit.

The former governor of Arkansas and Fox News personality was reacting to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address, in which he identified climate change as the greatest threat to the country’s future.

Remember, as Obama yammered on about containing the threat from an unnamed terrorist threat (Islamists), ISIS/ISIL was threatening to kill two Japanese hostages, and has now claimed that they’ve killed one of the hostages.

In England, one man is dead and several were injured in a machete attack. There has been an arrest, but the name of the person arrested has not been released. I think we all can figure out why.

The AP has printed a “correction” to their story on 2014 being the hottest ever, noting that the original fable “did not include the caveat that other recent years had average temperatures that were almost as high — and they all fall within a margin of error that lessens the certainty that any one of the years was the hottest.” They did forget to mention that we’re quibbling about a supposed 0.02C increase.

There has been no warming in the Antarctic during the satellite record.

Islamic radicalism is continuing to grow, as the extremist viewpoint is taught in Islamic schools, mosques, and other outlets. If anyone points out the problem, they are immediately deemed an “Islamophobe”, in an attempt not just to shut down debate, but to create yet another protected class of which no negative discourse is allowed. I’ve often wondered why Leftists would do this, considering that hardcore Islam stands against women, gays, abortion, and just about everything Leftists believe in. Other than domineering centralized government, of course.

However, I do not trust Huckabee when it comes to “climate change”. In 2007, he backed a national cap and trade scheme. He said it was a “moral issue”. He flipped in 2010.

All that said, the threat from radical Islam is not just about violence, but about the Islamists insinuating themselves into Western culture, into our politics, and changing our systems.
