NW Time’s Super Thrilled For A Carbon Tax That Will Skyrocket The Cost Of Living

Yes, this does come from the same paper that kills lots of trees and uses vast amounts of power and fossil fuels to gather the news, publish their paper, and distribute their paper

The Case for a Carbon Tax

In a welcome development, businesses are asking world leaders to do more to address climate change. This week, the top executives of six large European oil and gas companies called for a tax on carbon emissions.

These companies — the BG Group, BP, Eni, Royal Dutch Shell, Statoil and Total — are not taking a bold environmental stand. They are being pragmatic. They want an efficient and predictable policy to limit greenhouse gas emissions because they realize something must be done. Numerous scientists, economists, environmentalists and political leaders have previously proposed similar ideas.

They understand two things: first, they can pay lip service to the Cult of Climastrology, partially thinking that this will catch them a bit of a break from the unhinged activities of CoC activists (who take fossil fueled trips to protest fossil fuels companies). Second, they understand that they can make a boatload of money off a carbon tax, as the price of their product skyrockets due to Government

A carbon tax would raise the price of fossil fuels, with more taxes collected on fuels that generate more emissions, like coal. This tax would reduce demand for high-carbon emission fuels and increase demand for lower-emisson fuels like natural gas. Renewable sources like solar, wind, nuclear and hydroelectric would face lower taxes or no taxes. To be effective, the tax should also be applied to imported goods from countries that do not assess a similar levy on the use of fossil fuels.

Revenue generated by carbon taxes could be used for a variety of purposes. A lot of the money should surely be given to households, especially the poorest, through tax credits or direct payments to offset the higher prices they would have to pay for gasoline, electricity and other goods and services because of the tax. Some of the money could be used to invest in renewable energy and public transportation, or to lower other taxes.

Even the NY Times EB admits that this will skyrocket the cost of living, which will hurt the poor and middle class, unlike the uber-rich folks on the NY Times Editorial Board. If they think that money will be returned in the form of tax credits or direct payments, they haven’t been paying attention to Government. Furthermore, even if some is, there is no possible way that the money would even approach what the increased costs would be. This increases the size and power of Government, and all for little to no gain. Carbon markets have failed around the world, including in California. The Left leaning governments in Australia were summarily booted out over their passing of a carbon tax. Most nations are moving away from these failures. And Warmists mostly refuse to give up their own fossil fuels addictions.

Reverend Michael Pfleger Blames Mass Chicago Violence On NRA

You remember Reverend Michael Pfleger, right? He’s a big pal of Jeremiah “God Damn America” Wright, the pastor of whom Barack Obama listened to for 20 years, sat in the the pews of Wright’s church. Obama would also listen to Pfleger give guest sermons. He has a long history of hating America, playing the race card (even though he is white), and joining in with far, far left politics. Is this any surprise?

(Breitbart) On June 6, Reverend Michael Pfleger listed recent shootings in heavily gun-controlled Chicago then said the NRA “will pay pay for the murder of our children.”

He was joined by Reverend Jesse Jackson and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence president Dan Gross.

Pleger, Jackson, and Gross rallied outside of Chuck’s Gun Shop, where Jackson recently rallied for the ban of guns already banned in Chicago.

Pleger began his speech at the rally by pointing out that ten persons were shot and three were killed on the night of June 5 alone. He then said, “I’m not a gun grabber, I’m a life lover,” after which he pointed to Chuck’s Gun Shop and said, “And I love life more than the death that they are perpetrating.”

He went on to blame Chuck, to blame the NRA, to blame the gun manufacturers for the “blood running down our streets, and our children laying in cemeteries”.  He went on to say we need to “title guns like cars”. Chicago, and Illinois, have some of the most draconian gun restrictions in the country, and every legally purchased handgun requires a federal background check and waiting period.

At the end of his speech he stated

At the end of the day you can argue with us [and] you can call us names, but you got to deal with God. And the blood of our children is on your hands. And you will pay for the murder of our children.

An interesting notion, considering he’s been a Reverend for over 30 years, and supports abortion on demand, which kills more Blacks than guns. Consider

Father Pfleger has been politicking for over thirty years, and for what? His Auburn-Gresham neighborhood is still one of the most dangerous in Chicago. The renegade priest’s partisan social gospel doesn’t seem to be working.

It’s easy for Pfleger to blame guns, the NRA, Chuck, and others, but, he never seems to account for the fact that the Blacks in his neighborhood have been extremely violent, and are shooting each other. He doesn’t note that 75% of Chicago murders are committed by Black people. He never notes that Leftist policies have utterly failed the Blacks in his majority Black neighborhood. He never notes that the guns used are not legally acquired. He also fails to note that, absent guns, his neighborhood, and most of Chicago, has a high crime rate (though it’s still safer than Baltimore). There’s a 1 in 111 chance of being a victim of a violent crime in Chicago, over double the rate for Illinois. There’s a 1 in 28 chance of being a victim of a property crime.

Then there’s this

(The Blaze) On July 9, 2013, a bill to recognize Illinois gun owners’ right to carry concealed firearms was passed by both chambers of the state Legislature. Illinois became the last state in the nation to allow public possession of concealed guns.

Gun control advocates warned that high-crime areas, like Chicago, would only see more violence if residents were allowed to carry guns in public.

In reality, the opposite may be happening.

On Tuesday, the Chicago Police Department announced that the city experienced its lowest murder rate since 1958 in the first quarter of 2014. There were 6 fewer murders than the same timeframe in 2013 — a 9 percent drop — and 55 fewer murders than 2012, police said.

Further, there were reportedly 90 fewer shootings and 119 fewer shooting victims compared to last year. There have also been 222 fewer shootings and 292 fewer shooting victims compared to the first quarter in 2012.

Crime actually dropped in Chicago after concealed carry was passed and implemented. Furthermore, has anyone been talking about how murderous Chicago has been recently? Perhaps he should worry about why the people in his area are so violent and murderous, and stop attempting to restrict law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves.

Latest Idea To Solve “Urban Unrest”: Restore Voting Rights To Felons

I would think the answer it is to instill Conservative values, extoll the value of learning, stop projects that destroy the value, etc and so on. Tobias T. Gibson looks to double-down on more idiot Progressivism

To diminish urban unrest, start by restoring voting rights

In recent months, there have been a series of peaceful-turned-violent protests in large, urban areas. Many authors have covered the root causes and implications of these protests. While the spark in several of these protests has been the death of a black man during altercation with police, there is certainly tinder that existed well prior to the unrest. Ferguson, Mo.; Baltimore and now Cleveland have become synonymous with a wave of protest that seems to be sweeping the nation.

Riots. He means riots.

Most Americans believe firmly in the right to protest peacefully. That support drops dramatically when the protests turn to violence. In my view, if Americans are serious about preventing violent protest, there is a relatively simple preliminary solution: Restore and enhance the franchise. This simple solution will not solve the root causes of upheaval such as education disparity, racism, unemployment and poverty. President Obama, when asked about issues plaguing the people of Baltimore, replied that “If we think we’re just going to send police in to do the dirty work of containing the problems that arise there, and if, as a nation, we don’t ask what we can do to change these communities, to help uplift these communities and give these kids opportunity, then we’re not going to solve this problem.” While solving a host of complex, complicated, interrelated problems is difficult, allowing all voting-age Americans to vote may indirectly lead to improvements.

Two points: it’s interesting how these issues mostly occur in Black liberal areas, hence my notion that Liberalism  and the Democrat Party have utterly failed Black Americans.

Second, Gibson tells us to restore the franchise to felons, then says it won’t solve the problem of urban violence. He also fails to note that these felons disenfranchised themselves by committing a felonious crime. Since he’s primarily referring to Blacks, perhaps he should consider that the vast majority of crime against Blacks is committed by Blacks, what is termed “Black in origin” crime.

The combination of disenfranchising tools leads to the insidious and perverse consequence that those without an electoral voice take their voices and anger to the streets. And when those protests turn violent, large segments of the American populace are shocked at the scenes in the street — and suggest more “conventional” approaches to political change.

So, we’re supposed to restore the ability to vote to people who are convicted felons because, otherwise, they get violent? Maybe it would be better to tell them that looting and burning drug stores and other buildings is not acceptable, and stick them back in jail. This is yet another Liberal attempt to excuse criminal behavior within the Black community. These same felons would simply vote for the same Party that has helped create the despicable conditions within the Black urban areas.

Surprise: Monetary Redistribution Plan Is Super Important For Upcoming Paris Climate Change Talks

I know you’re completely shocked by this notion

West must pay up to secure deal at Paris climate change summit, warns Fabius
French minister says COP21 climate conference’s success in curbing emissions requires rich nations to fulfil earlier funding pledges to finance poor countries

Is it really necessary to excerpt anything beyond the headline and subhead? They say it all.

Rich countries must keep their financial promises to the poor on global warming, or key international climate change negotiations this year risk falling apart, the French foreign minister will warn his counterparts in other developed nations this weekend. (snip)

At the last major climate summit, in Copenhagen in 2009, the developing world was promised financial flows of at least $100bn (£65bn) a year by 2020, but in many cases the money has been slow in coming.

Laurent Fabius, the French foreign minister, who will preside over the Paris talks, said this aid would be the key issue.

“The question of financing is, in fact, decisive for reaching an agreement in Paris,” he said.

“The promise of Copenhagen must be kept, absolutely – it is the basis of trust, and for many countries it is the condition of reaching agreement. Therefore, it is a priority as president [of the negotiations].”

Funny how the solutions to “solving climate change” always seem to revolve around hardcore Leftist policy prescriptions, don’t you think?

Personally, I can’t wait to hear about the number of private jets and fossil fueled flights, along with all the limos which have horrible gas mileage, taken to the Paris climate change talks this December.

Obama Vows To Keep Fighting For Illegal Aliens

For legal U.S. citizens? Not so much

(The Hill) President Obama vowed Saturday to keep fighting for undocumented immigrants despite actions by Republicans and some judges to derail his executive orders.

“I’m going to keep doing everything I can to make our immigration system more just and more fair,” Obama said in his weekly address Saturday, marking Immigrant Heritage Month.

Obama said he took action last November to provide more resources for border security and to modernize the legal immigration system to bring illegal immigrants “out of the shadows.”

“Some folks are still fighting against these actions,” he said. “I’m going to keep fighting for them. Because the law is on our side. It’s the right thing to do. And it will make America stronger.”

Let’s not forget

Late last month, a federal appeals court panel refused to lift a Texas judge’s injunction that prevents Obama’s immigration plan from being implemented. Obama’s orders would defer deportations for as many as five million people who are in the United States illegally.

In other words, the judges found Obama’s executive orders illegal. The law sure seems to disagree with his actions.

As far as “fair”, fair to whom? How does any of this help the American population? Oh, sure, I understand that this will surely help the Democratic Party’s election chances, but, how does this help We The People? How does releasing over 3,700 Level 1 illegals, those deemed top priority for deportation, back into the populace?

How does being squishy on illegal aliens help? Are we supposed to feel bad for the illegal who was running a puppy mill (she’s from the U.K.)? Or the one who was just convicted for kidnapping? Or, how about the one given executive amnesty who is facing charges of child molestation and pornography? What’s that? You say Obama’s only releasing good ones? How about

Documents provided to the House Judiciary Committee for a hearing last month show that ICE released 30,558 convicted criminal illegal aliens in Fiscal Year 2014. Convictions range from homicide, battery, kidnapping, sexual assault and larceny. Nearly 14,000 were convicted of driving under the influence of liquor.

How many criminal illegals must We The People deal with? How much crime must we deal with? Our jails are full of these criminal illegals. Why must we put up with deflated wages caused by illegals? Why must our roads be in danger? Why must we be in danger? Why must we worry about our identities being stolen by these illegals? Illegal immigration, whether it be people who cross the borders illegally or overstay their visas, is not a victimless crime.

This is all wrapped up in his weekly address which is supposedly about “celebrating immigrant heritage month“.

I want us to remember people like Ann Dermody from Alexandria, Virginia.  She’s originally from Ireland and has lived in America legally for years.  She worked hard, played by the rules and dreamed of becoming a citizen.  In March, her dream came true.  And before taking the oath, she wrote me a letter.  “The papers we receive…will not change our different accents [or] skin tones,” Ann said.  “But for that day, at least, we’ll feel like we have arrived.”

Well, to Ann and immigrants like her who have come to our shores seeking a better life – yes, you have arrived.  And by sharing our stories, and staying true to our heritage as a nation of immigrants, we can keep that dream alive for generations to come.

Ann did it correctly, and then this chump links her doing it the right way with all the people who haven’t.

$150 Billion Plan Launched To Save The World From Hotcoldwetdry

I wonder where the money will come from?

(UK Independent) Scientists and economists have joined forces to launch a global research initiative to make green energy cheaper than coal within 10 years, a target they believe is critical to avoid dangerous climate change. They have compared the goal to the Apollo programme of the 1960s when the United States stated that it would put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade.

Even though they are doing this for a fake reason based on junk scie
nce, I’d be fore eliminating the need for coal.

Leading academics, including former government chief scientist Sir David King, past president of the Royal Society Lord Rees, and economists Lord Stern and Lord Layard, in effect said that the world cannot be saved from global warming unless coal – the dirtiest fossil fuel – is put out of business.

They have called the plan the Global Apollo Programme and hope to recruit countries from around the world in an international commitment to boost research and development into key areas of renewable energy, storage and electricity transmission.

So, they want to use Other People’s money, not their own. Anyone shocked?

It states that there is a “shocking underspend” on global research and development aimed at renewable energy – amounting to just 2 per of total global public funding on research. This needs to be boosted from $6bn (£4bn) a year to at least $15bn a year, the report says.

On has to wonder why they don’t pay for it themselves? Why do Other People have to pay for their belief sets? Oh, right, because this initiative will put money in their own pockets from government.

One also has to wonder if these folks have given up their own use of fossil fuels
