NC House Committee Passes Bill Allowing Driver’s Licenses For Illegals

North Carolina already has a driver’s license for illegals given executive amnesty by Barack Obama. Other than driving, registering a vehicle, and purchasing vehicular insurance, they provide no lawful status. In order to register a vehicle, one must have a valid DL and valid insurance. In order to obtain a DL, one must have valid insurance. This applies regardless of immigration status. Now the NC House looks to offer this to all illegal aliens

(WRAL) When a bill that would allow immigrants in the United States illegally to obtain limited driving privileges cleared the House Finance Committee Tuesday morning, Gregorio Morales and Carmen Rodriguez were among the folks sitting in the back of the room smiling.

Morales, who is originally from Mexico, has lived in the United States for 17 years – seven of those in North Carolina – and would be one of the people lining up for the new identity cards if House Bill 328 becomes law.

“I am a small-business owner. I have a landscape company,” Morales said shortly after the vote. He and his five employees would all benefit from the bill, he said.

“When you’re driving without a license, you always feel fear,” he said.

That’s right, at least two illegals were present, and they….weren’t detained. Despite admitting that not only were they present in the US illegally, but had been breaking other laws.

House Bill 328 would create a “restricted ID” for undocumented residents in North Carolina that would look different from a standard driver’s license. People obtaining one of the permits would need to undergo fingerprinting and background checks and prove their identity. Driving privileges would be attached to the restricted ID once applicants pass a state driving test and obtain liability insurance coverage.

While the bill cleared committee on a 22-11 vote, the measure is controversial, splitting Republicans in the House who are divided between encouraging people who are on the road anyway to get insurance and those who say the state should not provide public benefits to undocumented workers.

“What we want to do in this undocumented community is to separate those who are engaged in criminal activity from those who otherwise are not engaged in unlawful activity,” said sponsor Rep. Harry Warren, R-Rowan.

What’s the point of electing Republicans when they just act like Democrats? Some Republicans were dead set against this bill, including Governor McCrory.

Rep. Paul “Skip” Stam, R-Wake, pointed out that, in the case of an accident involving a driver without insurance, the other driver’s insurance bears the cost of damage and medical bills. Part of the insurance premiums drivers pay every month go toward covering such accidents.

It is a good point, and, if we look at this pragmatically, there are, unfortunately, too many who put roadblocks in the way of detaining and deporting the illegals, as well as stopping them in the first place.

As to the details of the bill, on page 11 line 23 we learn

The Division shall work with other State and local agencies on an ongoing basis to ensure that restricted drivers permits are not used to obtain public benefits for which only citizens and lawfully present persons are eligible

So, at least there is a provision blocking illegals from obtaining any benefits with the DLs. Whether this would be obeyed is another matter.

There is a long list of requirements and approved documents in order to obtain one of these special DLs, which would be marked as special. Passports are allowed, but no other document from an embassy (this is aimed directly at the Mexican consulate) would be allowed.

Possession of one of these special DLs cannot be used as basis to investigate nor detain the card holder.

They are only good for a period of one year, so, yearly renewal, which would certainly mean a yearly background check. And there is a long list of offenses which bar an illegal (and one would hope that this would mean immediate detention). However, things like “disturbing the public peace, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, worthless checks, misdemeanor larceny, shoplifting, or public drunkenness” do not disqualify.

Of course, this is all predicated on the bill actually making it on to the House floor for a vote, being passed in the Republican controlled House, then passing in the Republican controlled Senate, then avoiding a veto by the Governor.

World’s Biggest “Green” Power Station Apparently Not So Green

The Law Of Unintended Consequences rears its head

(UK Daily Mail) It is touted as the flagship of Britain’s energy future: the world’s biggest green power plant burning wood pellets to generate renewable biomass electricity that will safeguard the planet for our children.

But today The Mail on Sunday can expose the hypocrisy that underpins the Drax power station in North Yorkshire – which far from curbing greenhouse emissions, is actually increasing them, while adding huge sums to the nation’s power bills.

Drax was once Britain’s biggest coal-fired power station. It now burns millions of tons of wood pellets each year, and is reputed to be the UK’s biggest single contributor towards meeting stringent EU green energy targets.

But astonishingly, a new study shows that the switch by Drax from coal to wood is actually increasing carbon emissions. It says they are four times as high as the maximum level the Government sets for plants that use biomass – which is defined as fuel made from plant material that will grow back again, therefore re-absorbing the CO2 emitted when it is burnt.

At £80 per MW/hr, Drax’s biomass energy is two-and-a-half times more expensive than coal – a cost passed on to customers. Last year Drax soaked up £340 million in ‘green’ subsidies that were added to British consumers’ power bills – a sum set to rocket still further. Without these subsidies, its biomass operation would collapse.

Perhaps most damningly of all, its hunger for wood fuel is devastating hardwood forests in America, to the fury of US environmentalists, who say that far from saving the planet, companies like Drax are destroying it. Drax denies this, saying it only uses dust and residues from sawmills, as well as wood left over when others log trees for purposes such as construction. Inquiries by The Mail on Sunday investigation suggests this claim is highly questionable.

Apparently, they are only using about 9.5% dust and residues. Mostly, they are using trees that are being clearcut that are not good for lumber. So, we’re replacing coal, which has a much lower cost (but still has real world environmental costs, like mountain top removal), with an even older technology, wood, which results in forest destruction, and still has a high CO2 output.

In fact, the use of wood is growing in Europe, due to all the draconian “climate change” rules, regs, and laws. Which has led to governments enacting and proposing regulations on wood burning stoves and fireplaces.

The problem when it comes to making comedy about climate change is that it’s about the world falling into an open sewer, and it’s too impersonal

Comedy = tragedy plus time. That’s the equation to make ha ha’s happen. You may not know it, but all us lot in the comedy production line just hang out riffing maths formulas and that’s how we come up with the gold. Simples. (Winky face.)

So I’m not that great at math(s) – NB I do like to keep in with the Yanks. But I can still do the sums when it comes to melting all the ice caps away with our long baths; destroying Mr P Bear’s ice house with our TripAdvising globe trots; and finishing off the fossil fuels by blowdrying our hair to bits. Once we’ve done all that it’ll be too late. There’ll be no time left for the punchline: set up and then just tragedy. The laughter will be stranded and left for dead, marooned like one of those polar bears balancing on a singular floating block of ice. (snip)

US actor and comedian Mel Brooks said: “Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die” (and he charged £500 a ticket for his show in the West End recently so he must be right?). The problem when it comes to making comedy about climate change is that it’s the world falling into the open sewer. It’s this mammoth problem too big for any of us to get our heads round, too impersonal to understand and too far removed for any of us to grapple tangibly with. Most of us feel we are not yet living directly with the consequences of climate change. Human peeps are a selfish lot bothered with the here and now and if we can’t see it it ain’t happening and we don’t care.

If you’re in the U.K., make sure to check Holly and her poor grammar as she tours the nation in what will surely be a fossil fueled vehicle, as well as on TV, which uses vast amounts of power.

People Who Use Vast Amounts Of Fossil Fuels Pledge To Phase Out Fossil Fuels By End Of Century

And once they were done, they jumped in their fossil fueled vehicles surrounded by other fossil fueled protection vehicles. This is beyond bat guano insane, unless they can come up with a viable alternative. It’s pie in the sky, it’s beyond wishful. Perhaps they want the world to go back to whale oil?

(UK Guardian) The G7 leading industrial nations have agreed to cut greenhouse gases by phasing out the use of fossil fuels by the end of the century, the German chancellor,Angela Merkel, has announced, in a move hailed as historic by some environmental campaigners.

On the final day of talks in a Bavarian castle, Merkel said the leaders had committed themselves to the need to “decarbonise the global economy in the course of this century”. They also agreed on a global target for limiting the rise in average global temperatures to a maximum of 2C over pre-industrial levels.

What countries participated? Germany, Britain, France, the US, Canada, Japan and Italy. Merkel can simply jump in a fossil fueled vehicle to drive home, along with her surely large entourage. The leaders of France and Italy could take fossil fueled vehicles for the drive home (along with all their entourages), but, instead, they will take fossil fueled vehicles to the airport for a fossil fueled flight. The rest have no choice but to take FF vehicles to the airports to board their FF airplanes for FF flights back home. Obama will then take a FF helicopter back to the White House.

It would be nice to replace fossil fuels with something cleaner, in terms of real environmental issues, as opposed to the ginned up “carbon pollution”. How? That’s the part that is utterly missing from these members of the Cult Of Climastrology. The 1st World is set up for fossil fueled transportation. Even the 3rd world uses lots of fossil fueled travel. There are no viable alternatives to fossil fuels for transportation at this time. Nothing. What of the production of a good chunk of goods, which use plastic? So many other products require fossil fuels. Foams, rubber, synthetics, etc and so on. Fossil fuels are probably involved in 90% of everything. The majority of mankind’s infrastructure relies on fossil fuels. Will we go back to horse and buggy and sailing ships? No air transportation?

Samantha Smith, a climate campaigner for the World Wildlife Fund, said: “There is only one way to meet the goals they agreed: get out of fossil fuels as soon as possible.”

The 350.org campaign group put out a direct challenge to Barack Obama to shut down long-term infrastructure projects linked to the fossil fuel industry. “If President Obama wants to live up to the rhetoric we’re seeing out of Germany, he’ll need to start doing everything in his power to keep fossil fuels in the ground. He can begin by rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline and ending coal, oil and gas development on public lands,” said May Boeve, the group’s director.

Well, Obama is working hard to knock out FF development on public lands. Fortunately, there are plenty who are drilling on private land. Even if he does reject Keystone XL, Canada is still going to develop the tar sands, and ship it somewhere. One has to wonder if the people who work for 350.org have given up their own use of fossil fuels?

It will be interesting to see if this “end fossil fuels by 2100” mantra grows. It’ll also be interesting to see if the people who are pushing it remove fossil fuels from their own lives. We all know they won’t.

Good Grief: People Protest In Texas Over “Pool Party”

Everyone keeps saying that the video from the McKinney (illegal and against the community HOAs) pool party is hard to watch. Of course, they mean because of the supposed way these kids were being treated. It’s actually hard to watch because we see kids running rampant, refusing to listen to law enforcement, charging an officer causing him to pull his gun. Police officers are humans, and they get tired of listening to a bunch of hooligans, and telling them to settle down, especially when the kids are the ones who were in violations

(Fox News) Hundreds of demonstrators rallied outside an elementary school in a Dallas suburb Monday in response to a video that showed a white police officer pushing and pinning a black teenage girl to the ground before drawing his gun on two others who tried to intervene.

KDFW reported that many of the protesters came from outside the town of McKinney, about 35 miles northeast of Dallas. They held signs that included the phrases, “My skin color is not a crime,” and, “Don’t tread on our kids.” More than 150 people were part of a counter-protest on a nearby corner, waving flags and holding signs that said “Back the Blue.”

No, your skin color is not a crime, particularly since white kids were involved, as well. The party itself was a crime, as was trespassing, jumping the pool fence, fighting, assaulting the security guard, destruction of property, resisting, failing to listen to a duly sworn peace officer, and aggressively approaching a police officer.  As far as “treading on our kids”, where were the parents of these kids? Perhaps they should have taught them better values. Yes, kids will be kids, and I think we can all understand that many might have been upset about being invited to this party, reportedly being charged $15 for attendance, then being kicked out because the party was illegal per the HOA rules. Of course, that’s still no excuse for the fights, property destruction, etc.

A few dozen addressed the crowd through a bullhorn, including Derrick Golden, a pastor from McKinney who met earlier with the city’s police Chief Greg Conley. He said Conley “responded appropriately” in placing the officer, 41-year-old Eric Casebolt, on administrative leave following the incident. However, Golden said he would push for Casebolt to be fired due to the officer’s use of profanity and his brandishing of the gun.

But Benét Embry, a black local radio personality who witnessed the incident, said it was “not another Ferguson” or “another Baltimore,” referring to other police encounters that have left suspects dead and fueled a nationwide “Black Lives Matter” movement.

Let’s assume that Officer Casebolt went a little too far. That wouldn’t have happened if the illegal party hadn’t taken place, if the kids weren’t trespassing, abusing the security guard and residents (who pay a fee for the pool), fighting, etc and so on.

Robert Taylor, a criminology professor at the University of Texas at Dallas who has done studies for the McKinney Police Department, said both the officer and the teens at the pool party acted inappropriately.

The teens were not following police orders, he said, but the officer’s decision to pull out his gun did not help.

“That’s not the way we’re trained,” he said. “We’re trained in policing to de-escalate problem encounters like this. … Obviously, that officer lost his cool. No doubt about it.”

Maybe he did lose his cool. Police are human, and they certainly can get tired of the hooligan behavior, the yelling, the cursing, and do not appreciate anyone aggressively approaching them when they are attempting to restrain someone else, as the video shows.

Overall, this is typical. Something happens, and people go overboard in their protests, totally forgetting that the people they are protesting in support of were acting in a lawless manner. Perhaps they should spend their energy in teaching the kids civilized behavior, instead of attempting to ruin other people’s lives. By the way, residents of the neighborhood are being harassed and abused, and even threatened. Why aren’t the social justice warriors worried about that?

Climate Change Is The Eschatology Of The Left

I am always amazed that people without the capacity to verify the climate data are so convinced that “climate change” — which used to be “global warming,” but had to be changed to accommodate the “Great Pause” — is real and catastrophic. Since most people cannot independently verify the science of climate change, then those whose political leanings favor anti-capitalist solutions will accept the “facts” as if they are as true as gravity.

Liberals are sheep, led by their political masters, and have been told to Believe in anthropogenic climate change, and that we’re all doomed. In order to forestall the doom, we must change the economic system to a Progressive/Marxist economy, and implement tons of rules, regs, and laws which restrict personal freedom, the freedom of private entities, and control of the economy. Of course, they all think this should happen to Other People, never themselves, and mostly refuse to change their own lives to match their talking points.

The Left need causes that necessitate unitarian government. As such, they are global universalists. They want universal health care, global government via the United Nations, a world without borders. Global climate change is a perfect totalizing umbrella to unite the world under a single, controlling, horrifying rubric of an Earth in jeopardy underwritten by the prestige, authority, and inaccessibility of high science. The truth is that the earth is a religion to the Left, and climate change is its eschatology — an end of the world scenario. It used to be global thermonuclear war. Movie after movie in the 1980s fabricated a readymade collective anti-reality that only Leftist politics of disarmament and a “new world built on the ashes of the old” could solve. But that needed to be changed after the fall of the Berlin Wall (another reason to hate Reagan). A new collective umbrella needed to be fashioned.

Calling it “unitarian government” is a nice way of discussing what Warmists, part of the Progressive/Leftist movement, want, namely, an authoritarian centralized government.

Why, hasn’t anyone ever wondered why Al Gore’s Earth in the Balance (1992) was released so shortly after the fall of Russian Communism? Indeed, its subtitle is “Forging a New Common Purpose.” Climate change skeptics are not denying that a legitimate scientific issue exists that humans need to grapple with, but the political aspirations of those promoting its purported catastrophic consequences, whose ideas and solutions for humanity just might actually end life as we know it. Food for thought.

Al Gore, and other leading Warmists, have made quite a bit of money pushing these notions, jet setting around the world, gathering acolytes, while demanding that the rest of us reduce our lifestyles. Food for thought.

Lindsay Graham Goes Climahysteric, Desperately Wants To Be Democrat Nominee

Obviously, Senator Graham has long been a member of the Cult of Climastrology, and part of the Progressive wing of the GOP. That said, his campaign should go about as far as Jon Huntsman’s did in 2012 with this kind of moonbattery

(Politico) Sen. Lindsey Graham is urging action on climate change and endorsing a budget plan that includes tax increases — another example of how the South Carolina Republican breaks with many other conservatives seeking the GOP presidential nomination.

He’s not a conservative. He has some decent national security cred, and a few others issues, but, he received a 74 by the ACU for 2014, and a 68 for 2013. His lifetime rating (20 years) is 87.13.

In a wide-ranging interview aired Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Graham also called out two of his Republican rivals by name and challenged his party for not having an environmental policy.

“Here’s a question you need to ask everybody running as a Republican: What is the environmental policy of the Republican policy? When I ask that question, I get a blank stare,” he said in the interview taped Saturday in Boone, Iowa, where a number of GOP presidential hopefuls attended Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst’s “Roast and Ride.”

Republicans want to make sure the air, water, and land are clean. “Climate change” has nothing to do with real environmental concerns.

“If I’m president of the United States, we’re going to address climate change, CO2 emissions in a business-friendly way,” the South Carolina senator said. “I do believe that climate change is real.”

”When 90 percent of the doctors tell you you’ve got a problem, do you listen to the one?” Graham added, in a nod to the vast majority of scientists who say climate change is real and caused by human activity.

When 90% of doctors are telling you to use leaches and trepanning to cure illness, do you listen to them? Or the guy/gal saying “whoa, whoa, whoa, let’s look at actual science”? Lindsey, goes with the leaches.

Of course, belief in “climate change” has caused Lindsey to give up his own fossil fueled lifestyle and go carbon neutral.

Officer Pulls Weapon During “Pool Party”, Media Freaks

Texas Police Officer “On Administrative Leave” After Pulling Weapon On Teens During Pool Party

The officer was filmed aggressively handcuffing black teens before drawing his weapon to scare away others who had come to their aid.

This is being turned into a big raaaaacism issue by the mostly leftist media and websites covering it, along with Police Brutality. Sites like the Huffington Post go down the same route. This evil cop apparently pulled his gun! On Black kids in bathing suits! The McKinney PD has responded

On June 5, 2015 at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers from the McKinney Police Department responded to a disturbance at the Craig Ranch North Community Pool. The initial call came in as a disturbance involving multiple juveniles at the location, who do not live in the area or have permission to be there, refusing to leave. McKinney Police received several additional calls related to this incident advising that juveniles were now actively fighting.

First responding officers encountered a large crowd that refused to comply with police commands. Nine additional units responded to the scene. Officers were eventually able to gain control of the situation.

McKinney Police later learned of a video that was taken at the scene by an unknown party. This video has raised concerns that are being investigated by the McKinney Police Department. At this time, one of the responding officers has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation.

Buuuuuuuut, there are a few issues with the Leftist narrative, which the Leftists attempt to gloss over

(Breitbart) Left media is ablaze with articles condemning the police response to a pool party at a McKinney, Texas, subdivision. Now a video is emerging showing why police were called to the scene to begin with – violence.

Residents in a McKinney subdivision were hosting an end-of-school party in their private community pool. Many teens who were not residents of the subdivision began showing up. Some had been invited by residents, some had not. An ad for the event had been placed on social media sites.

Teens who were not invited began climbing the fence to get in, according to reports from residents of the area. Trouble began when they were asked to leave by residents and pool management.

The kids were fighting with the adults who asked them to leave, because they were trespassing. And fighting. And breaking things.

One resident, Benet Embry, a black man, posted on Facebook about the events leading up to the police call. “Look, I LIVE in this community and this ENTIRE incident is NOT racial at all,” Embry wrote. “A few THUGS spoiled a COMMUNITY event by fighting, jumping over fences into a PRIVATE pool, harassing and damaging property. Not EVERYTHING is about RACE. WE have other issues that NEED our attention other flights of made up make believe causes.”

Another McKinney resident, Bryan Gestner, posted on Facebook, “This was a Twitter party that turned into a mob event. Jumping pool fence. Assaulting 2 security guards, attacking a mother with three little girls. The video doesn’t show everything.” He continued saying the kids were drinking and “smoking weed” and they would not listen to any of the adults around the pool.

Watch the video. Notice that the police officer pulls out his gun when a kid is quickly approaching him while he attempts to get the girl in the bikini down on the ground, while she resists. He used the proper amount of force in attempting to get her to the ground, while she resists, which, remember, is a criminal violation. Pulling his service weapon may not have been the optimum solution, however, he saw a threat coming towards him during a volatile situation, one in which he was down near the ground and only had one hand free.

The police could have charged the girl, but, instead, they let her go after being briefly detained.

Gestner wrapped up his post alleging that these same kids came back into the neighborhood Saturday night. They were “kicking in people’s front door, stole a truck and crashed it into many vehicles. They vandalized dozens of cars and were stealing things.”

So, a bunch of teenage thugs, who shouldn’t have been at the pool in the first place, caused all sorts of problems, then came back to cause more. Funny how all the Leftists are excusing that behavior.
