Washington, D.C. Sinking, So, We Totally Need To Discuss Climate Change

Land subsistence is an actual scientific fact (btw, D.C. was not really built on swamp). Climate change is a hysterical political movement pushed by people who refuse to practice what they preach

Nation’s capital sinking into the sea, study says

To some, the results of a study that concludes the District of Columbia is sinking is a physical manifestation of the political environment in the nation’s capital.

But new research from the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Vermont shows that the land in the district — where the Lincoln Memorial was built on silt dredged from the Potomac River — is expected to fall 6 inches or more during the next 100 years, raising flood fears and adding to worries about the effect of rising sea levels on low-lying cities across the USA.

“It’s ironic that the nation’s capital, the place least responsive to the dangers of climate change, is sitting in one of the worst spots it could be,” Paul Bierman, a geologist at the University of Vermont in Burlington and senior author of a new paper about Washington’s descent, said in a statement. “Will the Congress just sit there with their feet getting ever wetter?”

It took them all of two paragraphs to whine about Hotcoldwetdry.

“This falling land will exacerbate the flooding that the nation’s capital faces from rising ocean waters due to a warming climate and melting ice sheets — accelerating the threat to the region’s monuments, roads, wildlife refuges and military installations,” University of Vermont researchers said in releasing the findings Tuesday. The paper was published online this week in the journal GSA Today.

Doom! Did you know that a whopping 1,350 acres of D.C. lie less than 6 feet below sea level? Getting beyond the notion that the sea rose a miniscule 7 inches during the 20th century, D.C. encompasses 43,710 acres. So, the majority is more than safe, even supposing that the sea rose 6 feet by 2100. Which won’t happen. Won’t even be close, except in the fevered pictures and GIFs of Warmists.

Tide gauges in the Chesapeake Bay have shown for 60 years that sea level “is rising at twice the global average rate and faster than elsewhere on the East Coast.” The hypothesis: Land in the Chesapeake region that had been pushed up by the weight of a prehistoric ice sheet has been settling down again since the ice sheet melted some 20,000 years ago.

The sea level trend for D.C. is 3.24 millimeters per year, which equates to 1.06 feet per century. Even taking subsistence out of the equation, that is below the rise one would expect during a Holocene warm period. What data is available showing long term trends for the Chesepeake do not show anything out of the norm, nor do any show anything other than a linear continuation of sea rise. There is not “speeding up” whatsoever.

This is all just taking the natural processes of the Earth and getting hysterical. For political purposes. Hey, at least they didn’t blame the subsistence on “climate change” this time!

Warmist James Hansen: Let The Free Market Decide Types Of Energy

Wait, what? The UK Guardian has run an article in which hyper-Warmists James Hansen and Bill McKibben are criticizing Hillary Clinton’s so-called “climate change” plan as being not aggressive enough. Then we get this

Clinton’s outline would put the US on track to supply 33% of the country’s electricity needs through renewables by 2027. That’s a mere 8% improvement over Obama’s plan.

It’s not enough, according to Hansen. Renewables are a part of how the US will wean itself off fossil fuels, but the market has to be allowed to determine which combination of renewable fuels – not just solar – makes the most sense in each region. “You can’t just legislate that,” said Hansen. Clinton’s plan “is going to make energy more expensive. You need to let energy efficiency and renewables and nuclear power and anything else that comes up compete.”

Hansen emphasized that whatever domestic policy we adopt towards climate change has to have a global reach, a key point absent in the solar proposal. “In places like China and India, they have to move off of coal for electricity pretty rapidly or the world is screwed.”

Hansen said a credible candidate on climate change would be talking about policy that would allow the price of fossil fuels to rise gradually. “You have to recognize that as long as fossil fuels appear to be the cheapest energy, we’ll just keep burning them,” he said.

Interesting. On one hand, Hansen is saying that all old type energy sources, primarily coal and fossil fuels (which have a long track record of efficiency, reliability, and low cost) must be eliminated, and then he yammers on about letting the “free market” pick which Cult of Climastrology Approved energy sources will work.

So far, the free market has determined that these renewables are mostly a no-go, at least not without massive subsidies from Government. The one that truly works, hydro-electric, is off-limits to the hardcore envirowackos, who often want existing dams to be torn down.

Iran Claims Obama Admin Lying About Nuclear Deal

It says quite a bit about the veracity and credibility of the Obama administration when claims by Iran are not immediately dismissed

(Washington Free Beacon) Senior Iranian officials are accusing the Obama administration of lying about the details of the recent nuclear accord in order to soothe fears among U.S. lawmakers and Americans about the implications of the deal, which will release billions of dollars to the Islamic Republic while temporarily freezing its nuclear program, according to reports from Iran’s state-controlled media.

As Secretary of State John Kerry and other senior Obama administration figures launch a full-court press to convince Congress to approve the deal, Iranian leaders are dismissing the rhetoric as “aimed at domestic consumption.”

The USA Today is running an article about Obama working overtime to sell the deal. He’s even working on selling the deal while on the golf course!

When addressing claims this week by the administration that the deal shuts down Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure, Iranian officials scoffed and said that the Obama administration is misleading the public in order to sell the deal.

Hamid Baeidinejad, an official in the Iranian foreign ministry and one of the country’s nuclear negotiators, scoffed on Wednesday at the Obama administration’s comments, saying that they were meant to placate an American domestic audience.

“The remarks by the western officials are ambiguous comments which are merely uttered for domestic use and therefore we should say that there is no ambiguity in this (nuclear) agreement,” the Fars news agency quoted Baeidinejad saying in an interview with state-controlled radio.

Baeidinejad said that the Obama administration is misleading Americans about the deal in order to “calm opponents in the Congress and Zionist lobbies to soothe the internal conditions prevailing over debates on the nuclear agreement in that country,” Fars, which is also run by the Iranian state, reported.

The interesting part of this is that, so far during all the negotiations, the Obama admin made statements that Iran refuted, and Iran was proven correct each time. Heck, the Obama administration made statements that they later refuted themselves, as George Will notes

… the agreement comprehensively abandons President Obama’s original goal of dismantling the infrastructure of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Second, as the administration became more yielding with Iran, it became more dishonest with its own citizens. For example, John Kerry says we never sought “anywhere, anytime” inspections. But on April 6, Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser, said the agreement would include “anywhere, anytime” inspections. Kerry’s co-negotiator, Wendy Sherman, breezily dismissed “anywhere, anytime” as “something that became popular rhetoric.” It “became”? This is disgraceful.

Israel, a key ally in the region, the only true democracy, and a nation which Iran has constantly stated it will “wipe off the map”, has stated that they have not been given the full details of the deal. Of course, neither have U.S. lawmakers nor the American people, since those separate side agreements are being kept secret.

Group Temporarily Barred From Releasing More Planned Parenthood Videos

First Amendment? What First Amendment?

(AP) A temporary restraining order has been issued preventing an anti-abortion group from releasing any video of leaders of a California company that provides fetal tissue to researchers. The group is the same one that previously released three covertly shot videos of a Planned Parenthood leader discussing the sale of aborted fetuses for research.

The Los Angeles Superior Court order issued Tuesday prohibits the Center for Medical Progress from releasing any video of three high-ranking StemExpress officials taken at a restaurant in May. It appears to be the first legal action prohibiting the release of a video from the organization.

The Center for Medical Progress has released three surreptitiously recorded videos to date that have riled anti-abortion activists. The Senate is expected to vote before its August recess on a Republican effort to bar federal aid to Planned Parenthood in the aftermath of the videos’ release.

What’s missing in any of the articles on this is that I can find is the “why”. There are a total of 12 videos, with 9 more set for release. They cannot release any until a court hearing on August 19th. The Center For Medical Progress responds

StemExpress, a for-profit company partnered with over 30 abortion clinics, including Planned Parenthood, to harvest and sell aborted baby parts and provide a “financial benefit” to Planned Parenthood clinics, is attempting to use meritless litigation to cover-up this illegal baby parts trade, suppress free speech, and silence the citizen press reporting on issues of burning concern to the American public. They are not succeeding—their initial petition was rejected by the court, and their second petition was eviscerated to a narrow and contingent order about an alleged recording pending CMP’s opportunity to respond. The Center for Medical Progress follows all applicable laws in the course of our investigative journalism work and will contest all attempts from Planned Parenthood and their allies to silence our First Amendment rights and suppress investigative journalism.

Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Speech, Protesting Peaceably, these are all being violated by this court order.

Cult Of Climastrology Member Shocked To Find It Gets Hot In The Summer

Climate change suddenly got personal, you guys, says Warmist Carol Pierson Holding

A Common Motivation to Solve Climate Change

……

For the first time, I am suffering because of rising temperatures that, like California’s drought, are most likely the result of climate change.

I get heat headaches that can grow into migraines. My nervous system shorts and my extremities grow numb. I can’t think clearly and typing is difficult.

Climate change is suddenly personal.

And that changes everything.

I don’t have the energy to be outraged anymore. I’m just trying to stay focused on getting through my day without taking a toxic amount of Advil to reduce the pounding in my head until the heat of the day dissipates into a blessedly cool evening.

First, it gets warm, even hot in the summer! Amazing, eh? As someone who spends a lot of time outside (and always have), I wear light clothes, I drink lots of water, and use sunscreen. If I start feeling a bit nauseous or lightheaded, I go inside. So do others. Sounds like this little snowflake is a bit delicate. Interestingly, these same Warmists want to bad air conditioning. What? Oh, right, they want to ban it for people in 3rd World nations.

Second, if it is “suddenly personal”, does that mean Carol plans to give up her own use of fossil fuels and go carbon neutral, and preach to all her liberal Warmist friends to do the same?

Despite our very different experiences, every one of us is compromised by the effects of climate change. At some point won’t we all see that we’re aligned in a common cause? Using water illegally addresses personal pain with a short-term solution. So does buying bottled water. Or hiding out in a dark air-conditioned room as I did last week. On the other hand, working together to mitigate climate change and insisting that our leaders do the same could give us back the lush, fertile land in Rancho Santa Fe, the San Joaquin Valley, Seattle — and all over the world for that matter. We’ll all be better off.

Ah. Government solutions. Of course.

Good News: Prince Charles Extends His Doom From Climate Change Prediction!

High flying, fossil fuels using, big carbon offender Prince Charles has changed his mind on when doom comes

(Washington Times) Prince Charles is warning that there are only 35 years left to save the planet from climate disaster, which represents a 33-year extension of his previous deadline.

In March 2009, the heir to the British throne predicted that the world had 100 months “before we risk catastrophic climate change,” as pointed out by Climate Depot’s Marc Morano.

“Prince Charles gives world reprieve: Extends ‘100-Month’ climate ‘tipping point’ to 35 more years,” says the Tuesday headline on the Climate Depot website.

The British blog Not A Lot of People Know That announced in a July 19 post, “Charlie Gives Us a Reprieve!”

He had predicted doom by 2017.  Yet another failed prognostication from a Cult of Climastrology bigwig. Pushing it out 35 years means no one will remember the updated prognostication.

Bill To Defund Planned Parenthood Fast-tracked In Senate

The latest undercover video regarding Planned Parenthood is even more shocking

(Life News) After two shocking videos caught Planned Parenthood doctors discussing and arranging the sale of body parts of aborted babies, a third video has been released today catching a Planned Parenthood vice president negotiating the sale of aborted babies and attempting to get as much money as possible from the deal.

Abortion supporters (how did it come to pass that a Party supports unfettered abortion, allowing no restrictions, even on late term and parental notification?) whine about the videos being “heavily edited”, even though the full videos for numbers 1 and 2 have been released. The news heavily edits all their videos. Maybe we should complain. Anyhow

(The Hill) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is fast-tracking a bill to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood, after senators huddled in his office Tuesday to work out the details of a bill.

Speaking on the Senate floor, the Republican leader started the process, known as Rule 14, which allows the bill to skip over being sent to a committee and go directly to the Senate floor for a vote.

“The horrendous videos of senior executives from Planned Parenthood discussing in callous tones and shocking detail their role in a national scandal requires a congressional response,” the Republican leader said in a statement.

“This legislation would ensure taxpayer dollars for women’s health are actually spent on women’s health — not a scandal-plagued political lobbying giant.”McConnell is expected to finish the fast-track process Wednesday.

The bill itself would redirect federal funds to other women’s health organizations. The vote will take place by the end of next week. I would suspect that it would occur in a time that would allow the House to take it up. Obviously, if passed, Obama will veto it, showing just how extreme he is.

On one hand, it might be better to restrict Planned Parenthood to not using federal money for abortions. The organization does provide much, much more than just abortions, and certainly helps with actual health for low income women (or, does it?). On the other hand, there are 12 good reasons to defund PP. Here are a few

2. Planned Parenthood is an independently wealthy entity. According to its latest annual report, it has over one billion dollars in net assets.[ii] In 2014 alone, data shows that Planned Parenthood’s revenue has exceeded their expenses by over $90 million.[iii]

Looks like they can afford to operate without federal money. Wait, aren’t they a “not-for-profit” organization? They say they are.

3. Planned Parenthood is America’s largest abortion provider. One out of every four abortions in the U.S. is performed in a Planned Parenthood facility. Data shows that since 1970, Planned Parenthood has performed at least 5.3 million abortions. In 2013 alone, Planned Parenthood performed a record 357,653 abortions.[iv]

We are constantly told that PP’s abortion business is just a small fraction of what they do. Why, though, do citizens pay for other people’s abortions?

4. Planned Parenthood’s business model is centered on abortion. Former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson has written that she was given an “abortion quota” and was even told by her superiors to double the number of abortions in order to bring in more revenue.[v] Abortion patients constitute 12 percent of Planned Parenthood clients — 332,000 of 3 million unduplicated clients in its most current report. 37 percent of all Planned Parenthood clinic income revenue is from abortion procedures, according to conservative estimates. Planned Parenthood has issued a directive instructing that all affiliates must have at least one clinic that performs abortion by 2013.[vi]

Oh, hey, I didn’t know this next one

9. Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms and is not a significant primary care provider to women. Despite claims made by Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards and members of the media, Planned Parenthood does not provide mammograms. They are also not a significant primary care provider in general. In recent reports, Planned Parenthood acknowledges that it provided primary care only to about 19,700 of its 3 million unduplicated clients. These services have been trending downward for years, from 21,247 in 2007 to 20,235 in 2008, to today’s 19,796.[xiii]

Of that’s true, then there is no reason not to defund them. They can solicit donations from abortion on demand supporters. There are many hospitals, medical centers, and others that operate only on donations, rather than government money.

LA Gang Members Take Note: You’re Banned From Using Magazines That Hold More Than 10 Bullets

The Crips, Bloods, Asian Boyz, Mongols, Surenos, Mexican Mafia, MS-13, Pirus, and so many more, you be good now! No large capacity mags for you!

L.A. City Council bans large-capacity ammunition magazines

Defying sharp warnings from gun rights groups, Los Angeles thrust itself into the national debate over gun control Tuesday, as city lawmakers voted unanimously to ban the possession of firearm magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Such magazines have been “the common thread” in almost all the mass shootings that have devastated the country, from Newtown to Virginia Tech to Columbine, said Juliet Leftwich, legal director for the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. Backers of the plan said it was a small but meaningful step to minimize the bloodshed, by forcing attackers to at least interrupt their rampages to stop and reload.

I’m sure all the hardcore gang members will immediately change their ways and start using mags that hold no more than 10 rounds. Because gangs follow the law.

The National Rifle Assn. and other gun rights groups have threatened to sue over Los Angeles’ new rules, arguing that they violate the 2nd Amendment and are preempted by existing state law.

California law already generally bans the manufacturing of such large-capacity magazines, as well as offering them for sale or bringing them into the state. But state law does not prohibit people from possessing them, which Krekorian and others argued is a “loophole” that jeopardizes public safety.

Wait, don’t Liberals constantly tell us that laws stricter than higher level government are illegal? Oh, right, that’s only when cracking down on illegal aliens.

“People who want to defend their families don’t need a 100-round drum magazine and an automatic weapon to do it,” said Krekorian, who championed the ban at a rally Tuesday outside City Hall. But if someone wanted to do harm, Krekorian added, “imagine what a gunman on this sidewalk could do with that kind of firepower with a crowd like this.”

Ownership of a fully automatic weapon is mostly illegal. Almost no one bothers with a 100 round mag. This just goes to show that the gun-grabbers are hysterics and really do not know what they’re talking about.

The new ordinance gives Angelenos who own such magazines 60 days to remove, surrender or legally sell or transfer them after it goes into effect. Breaking the law would be a misdemeanor. Garcetti has 10 days to sign the measure, which would take effect a little more than a month later.

Oh, noes, a gang member might get a ticket and a small fine! That’ll learn them! Obviously, this will only cause problems for legal gun owners, who may be left with a gun without a usable magazine. Unless they purchased the weapon prior to January 1, 2000. Which would seem to be a violation of equal treatment under the law.

At the Tuesday hearing, the CalGuns Shooting Sports Assn. also raised concerns. “I don’t think it’s going to have any effect on gun violence,” said the association’s director, Chad Cheung, pointing out that people in neighboring cities such as Burbank or Glendale could still possess the magazines.

“Bad people are going to do bad things, and they’ll do it regardless of whatever laws are in place,” Cheung said.

The problem with all these gun laws are that they go after the legal owners, not those who illegally own them and use them for nefarious purposes.

Bummer: 4 In 10 Have Never Heard Of Climate Change

25+ years of “spreading awareness” and this is what we get

Climate change may be headline news in the United States but it still is barely registering in many parts of the world.

A new study on Monday in Nature Climate Change finds that 40 percent of adults worldwide aren’t aware of global warming. Using data from the 2007-2008 Gallup World Poll, conducted in 119 countries, the researchers found that the proportion of people who have never heard of global warming rises to 65 percent in developing countries like Egypt, Bangladesh and, even big greenhouse emitters, like India.

“This is after decades of scientific research, decades of media coverage, decades of international negotiations and it’s an issue on the agenda at big, geopolitic meetings,” he said.

They say this equates to about 2 billion people. So, big fail.

In all fairness, the study data isn’t exactly current, but it’s doubtful the needle has moved much. And, surely, the first thing that these new people ask is “OK, so, does that mean that everyone who believes in Hotcoldwetdry has given up their own use of fossil fuels and made their lives carbon neutral, as they now want me to do? What? They havent? Oh, they just want me to pay more taxes and restrict my use of AC, heating, energy, and cars, while restricting my life? Huh. ”

The sense of urgency increases when people understand that climate change is manmade. But other factors also play into that, including local temperature changes in parts of Asia and Africa, support for government mitigation efforts in the United States and, in China, concern rises with worsening air pollution.

Of course, in reality, there’s very little anthropogenic about it, no matter how many times Warmists say it. If it was, might they not change their own behavior and act like it’s a crisis?
