Exxon Forces Democrat AG To Back Down On Climate Witchhunt

One of the things that all the Democrat attorney generals who’ve decided to go after Exxon forgot is that there is this thing called “The Constitution”. Oh, and the law. Standards of conduct. And that Exxon is a really, really big company which keeps really smart lawyers on the payroll, ones who certainly graduated from some of the best law schools in the world. And can pay to hire more, if needed. And they can all argue those Constitution and law thingies

(Washington Examiner) A group of Democratic attorneys general have suffered another blow in their bid to find oil-giant Exxon Mobil guilty of fraud in a highly-politicized climate change investigation.

A court document issued Wednesday evening says Claude Walker, attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands, has agreed to withdraw his subpoena demanding documents and emails from the oil company related to its discussion of the risks posed by climate change. (snip)

On Wednesday, Exxon agreed to stand down its legal action given Walker’s agreement to withdraw his subpoena.

This is the second time Walker was forced to withdraw a subpoena in the climate fight. Walker had gone after the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute a few months ago for its ties to the oil company. The think tank responded with threats of sanctions and Walker withdrew.

CEI is not backing down, and is seeking sanctions against Walker. Exxon just wants to get along, which would usually be a smart move for a business. In this case, they should have sought sanctions, as well, which would dissuade other AGs from playing these games.

Of course, ExxonMobile has also sued Massachusetts AG Maura Healy earlier in June, so, that could actually have forced Walker’s hand in backing down.

Study: Paris Climate Accord Will Cause “Catastrophic Warming”

It’s funny how so many Warmist efforts seem to not only fail, but be worse than thought

Paris climate summit put planet on course for ‘catastrophic’ warming despite being seen as success, study finds
While countries agreed to try to limit global warming to a rise of 1.5C, the actions they actually promised could see temperatures go up by twice that amount

The pledges made by countries at the historic Paris agreement on climate change would lead to “completely catastrophic” global warming, scientists have warned.

In a major analysis of 10 different studies into the effect of what world leaders promised to do, researchers calculated that the planet was still on course for a temperature increase of 2.6C to 3.1C by the end of this century.

Their finding was in sharp contrast to the landmark declaration in Paris in November last year that action would be taken to keep the rise to “well below” 2C and try to restrict it to 1.5C.

So, even with all the massive governmental controls that need to be implemented over the entire private sector ti institute the Paris climate accord, with all the new taxes and fees, with all the restrictions on freedom and liberty, it still really fails to do much of anything when it comes to the massive rise of global temperatures that Warmists prognosticate will happen with their shoddy “science”.

Of course, what the study is pushing is for much, much more governmental power, as the authors are hardcore members of the Cult of Climastrology. But, they aren’t wrong that the Paris climate accord will do little to nothing, all while damaging economies, causing hardship for lower and middle class citizens, increase government power, and restricting freedom. All for a possible reduction of just 0.05C by 2100, if fully implemented. Nature will probably do more than that.

What’s The Real Answer To Stopping “Gun Violence”?

Democrats are desperate to enact “common sense solutions” to deal with gun violence. Their ideas, of course, are ultimately about denying the majority of citizens their Right to bear arms, and, if they have to violate a few other Constitutional Rights along the way, such as Due Process, so be it. Yet, there are a few ways in which to reduce gun violence, ones that do not infringe on the Rights of citizens, which they utterly ignore

(Judicial Watch) One of the guns used in the November 13, 2015 Paris terrorist attacks came from Phoenix, Arizona where the Obama administration allowed criminals to buy thousands of weapons illegally in a deadly and futile “gun-walking” operation known as “Fast and Furious.”

Well, there’s one way: the administration shouldn’t be running guns which end up being used in all sorts of shootings. Funny how the same Democratic gun grabbers aren’t particularly concerned over the shootings involving F&F guns, which have killed and wounded hundreds of Mexicans, including children, at least two US Federal officers, and now people in Paris.

What else to do?

(CNBC) But here’s the funny thing, in a tragically laughable way of course: we already know how to reduce gun violence and gun crimes because we’ve already done it many times before. That’s right, we actually solved the issue of rising gun violence in America in the mid-1990’s and again in the early 2000’s by doing something really radical. We enforced the law.

Now Republicans often get off too easy with their base voters by talking the talk about enforcing existing gun laws and leaving it at that. While it’s technically true that there are already enough gun laws on the books to put the hammer down on gun violence, most Republicans know all too well that law enforcement all over the country needs a lot more funding and other tools to enforce those laws better. And that became clear during both the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations when new funding programs to cut down on gun violence were instituted and they worked.

Uh oh, this is leading somewhere uncomfortable for Democrats. Not just the whole “enforce the existing laws” notion, but

I’ll start with the Clinton years and remind everyone that it wasn’t the Brady Bill or the Assault Weapons ban that made the real difference. It was the increased funding to police departments from his 1994 crime bill that showed real progress. I was on the White House lawn that day in October, 1994 when President Clinton was joined by an army of police chiefs and mayors to announce the $200 million being released to put 100,000 more cops on the streets. It’s not clear just how close the Clinton Administration came to reaching that 100,000 number, but the message the funding sent had almost as much of an effect as however many new cops actually hit the streets.

Yes, that’s right, funding the police and putting more on the streets in the areas with the highest violence. President Bush boosted funding for prosecuting those who illegally used guns and the FBI to go after gun runners. Now the current administration runs guns. Violent crime dropped heavily under the Bill Clinton administration, and under the George W. Bush administration. Under the Obama admin, which wants all sorts of new laws and has demonized law enforcement, it has spiked.

That leaves us with a unique double “put your money where your mouth is moment” when it comes to guns in America. The Democrats, if they really want to slow gun violence in this country, need to put their money where their mouths are and support renewed efforts to enforce existing gun laws like Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush did in the recent past. Republicans, if they really want to prove they believe enforcing the existing gun laws is all we need to do, need to put their money where their mouths are and get proactive about offering money funding for that enforcement up front.

Democrats now despise the police, especially in light of their support for the #BlackLivesMatter crew. They’d rather that gun violence, including the high levels in Black communities, remain high instead of pushing law enforcement as a solution, so as not to lose the votes of the Black community. Plus, reducing casual gun play means fewer shootings and “mass atrocities”, which would make their march towards gun grabbing, Rights denial, and more federal power harder.

Police Called To School Over “Simple Name Calling”

Have you heard about this one, where the police were called to a Collingswood, NJ school to chastise a 3rd grade?

On June 16, police were called to an unlikely scene: an end-of-the-year class party at the William P. Tatem Elementary School in Collingswood.

A third grader had made a comment about the brownies being served to the class. After another student exclaimed that the remark was “racist,” the school called the Collingswood Police Department, according to the mother of the boy who made the comment.

The police officer spoke to the student, who is 9, said the boy’s mother, Stacy dos Santos, and local authorities.

The comment, as you can imagine, was about brownies, not skin color, and the child is now traumatized. That was bad. Very bad. Inexcusable. Despicable to actually call the police. Here’s where it gets, dare I say, unConstitutional and threat to liberty

The increased police involvement follows a May 25 meeting among the Collingswood Police Department, school officials, and representatives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, where school officials and police both said they were told to report to police any incidents that could be considered criminal, including what Police Chief Kevin Carey called anything “as minor as a simple name-calling incident that the school would typically handle internally.”

This puts the police in a tough position, having to speak to young children for being the little jerks that kids are, especially since kids really do not have the mouth filters that adults have (or should have). Called because of name calling? Whoever instituted this policy should be fired.

We Don’t Need Actual Science, Because We Can See ‘Climate Change’ On Our TVs Or Something

Can someone tell Michael Mann that we weren’t really get actual science to start with?

(Washington Times) Leading climate doomsayer Michael Mann recently downplayed the importance of climate change science, telling Democrats that data and models “increasingly are unnecessary” because the impact is obvious.

“Fundamentally, I’m a climate scientist and have spent much of my career with my head buried in climate-model output and observational climate data trying to tease out the signal of human-caused climate change,” Mr. Mann toldthe Democratic Platform Drafting Committee at a hearing.

“What is disconcerting to me and so many of my colleagues is that these tools that we’ve spent years developing increasingly are unnecessary because we can see climate change, the impacts of climate change, now, playing out in real time, on our television screens, in the 24-hour news cycle,” he said.

Interesting. Sir Isaac Newton published his law of universal gravitation in 1687. Everyone could, and still can, see it in action. Yet, scientists still perform Science in exploring gravity. Einstein did lots of work on gravity, as have others. I guess doing science was still important. In the world of the Cult of Climastrology, I science is apparently not necessary. Not that many were doing actual science in the first place. Well, political science. But not science science.

Surprise: Joe Romm Says Climate Change Caused Brexit

Most Warmists have been Very Concerned with Brexit as it could derail their Big Government push with implementation of the Paris Climate accord. Now we get something even more fun

(Daily Caller) It only took four days after U.K. voters chose to leave the European Union for a liberal climate scientist and eco-activist to blame the whole event on — you guessed it — global warming.

Joe Romm, a climate scientist and writer for the liberal blog ThinkProgress, wrote an article Monday arguing the so-called “Brexit” and the rise of GOP candidate Donald Trump are driven by global warming.

“We’ve known for a while that there are scientific tipping points beyond which certain climate impacts — like the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet or the thawing of the carbon-rich permafrost — become unstoppable,” Romm wrote. “But it appears there may also be political tipping points, where certain climate impacts cause so much widespread harm simultaneously that they simply fragment the world.”

Here’s where it gets really good, and Romm makes his main “point”

Romm goes on to argue the Brexit movement was largely fueled by “scaremongering around the Syrian refugee crisis” — a crisis he says caused by global warming. Romm wrote:

The Syrian migrant crisis “had an outsized impact on the Brexit,” as NBC News political director Chuck Todd said Friday. You can see that in the pro-Brexit poster from the U.K. Independence Party (above) — which became a major advertising campaign of the referendum — featuring thousands of male refugees streaming from Croatia into Slovenia last October.

Warmists are, of course, blaming the Syrian migrant crisis on Hotcoldwetdry, rather than on things like a brutal strongman ruler, Islamic extremism and, well, that’s mostly it. And Joe keeps going and going and going, wrapping up with

Brexit and Trumpism make plainly — and painfully — visible that even rich, democratic nations deal poorly with a moderate amount of refugees, immigration, and economic dislocation. Imagine how we’ll deal with the 100-fold escalation of those problems if we fail to stop catastrophic climate change.

I’m not certain there is much middle ground in the global struggle between unity and disunity. Either the world works together to keep total warming well below 2°C — or our disunity leads to catastrophic warming and further global disunity not seen since the fall of the Tower of Babel.

Since the fall of the Tower of Babel!

Gun Control Is Totally About The Children Or Something

Democrats are very enthused over implementing massive amounts of gun control, and have no problem blowing off American citizen’s Due Process rights, too boot. They seem to relish it. Today, they are supposedly holding their “Days Of Action” to keep their anti-Constitution push going. Rep Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn) wants to “treat gun violence as an urgent public health crisis.” Funny how this crisis seems to heavily involve Democratic Party voters in Democratic Party run areas. And extremist Muslims. But, we aren’t allowed to talk about either group. Then there’s this op-ed piece by Richard Salmony

(News and Observer) It is 3 a.m., and I’m wide awake. I’ve got a busy clinic in the morning and should be sleeping, but all I can think about is the safety of my boys, who are 5 months and 4 years old. The horrific imagery of the Orlando shooting is racing through my mind. Memories of Columbine, Sandy Hook, Paris, Brussels, San Bernardino and other countless violent acts have become a permanent part of the landscape of our society.

You probably shouldn’t live in the heavily Democratic Party area known as Durham, NC. Or at least stay out of certain areas. This Dem run city has a crime rate of 5, meaning it is safer than 5% of other US cities. That’s a Bad Thing. It’s violent crime rate (7.49) is over double that of both the national (3.8) and North Carolina (3.3) rates. The murder, rape, assault, and robbery rates are all above the national rates. Of course, there’s nothing else to do but slap restrictions on law abiding citizens who need to protect themselves in Democratic Party run areas

Gun control is an issue about the safety of children everywhere. It should have no relationship to partisan politics or be subject to political pressures. Local and national leaders must put aside political aspirations and think about the one thing that always matters – the life of a child.

Taking the position that gun control will not help is shameful and shortsighted. The fact that a person investigated by the FBI for potential terrorist links is capable of buying any type of firearm, let alone a military-style assault weapon, is preposterous.

Using the phrase “military-style assault weapon” is political. And using children as props is shameful and partisan, considering that the same people pushing to restrict the Constitutional rights of law abiding gun owners, both the right to own and their Due Process rights, cheered when the Supreme Court shot down Texas’ laws that required abortion centers to operate under the same medical standards as medical facilities. They loves them some unborn baby killing!

But, please, tell me more how all this gun control will keep children safe. In science, one comes up with a hypothesis, then tests it to see the outcome. In business, they do something similar. They note the problem, lay out the task to deal with it, and what the results are expected to be. Fortunately, we have testing sites to look at, and see their results. Places like California, Chicago, D.C. Baltimore, Orlando, NJ, and many other Democratic Party run areas, which all feature heavy restrictions on law abiding citizens, all which feature heavy amounts of crime and shootings and murders. Meanwhile, those who need to defend themselves are the ones who have their rights taken away.

Why is it that Democrats always want to disarm the law abiding citizens, rather than going after the actual criminals? Democrats work super hard to protect criminals, not the law abiding citizens, not the ones who need to defend themselves, not the ones who have been attacked.

It is time for government leaders to act. Set politics to the side. Outlaw the public sale of military-style weaponry now. Requiring background checks before allowing the purchase of firearms is imperative. Anyone should agree to this step in the right direction. This is a growing problem, and our children deserve so much better than what we are providing them.

Very few attacks use “assault rifles”. Background checks are already required. To claim otherwise is “shameful” partisanship. Remember, the same people who want to take away Due Process and 2nd Amendment rights want to give convicted felons back their voting rights. Go figure.

Everybody Panic! Global Warming May Be Worse In The Future Than Thought

Brought to you by the same people who’ve been proclaiming ever worsening doom and gloom, and when it doesn’t come to pass, they say it is coming much later. Oh, and the same people whose computer models have consistently failed

Global warming may heat up Earth more than expected in future, predicts scientists

Earth could get much warmer than expected in future, say scientists who have reconstructed past global warming and carbon cycle on earth 56 million years ago.

Global warming from greenhouse gas emissions depends not only on the size of the emissions, but also on the warming effect that the extra amount of gas has on the atmosphere.

“The research shows that climate sensitivity was higher during the past global, warm climate than in the current climate, said Gary Shaffer, professor at the University of Magallanes in Chile.

“This is bad news for humanity as greater climate sensitivity from warming will further amplify the warming,” said Shaffer, also a professor at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Meanwhile, the use of fossil fuels is so bad that a Warmists thinks….Warmists should keep using them till they magically come up with something else

Climate change skeptics, and those who favor the continued use of fossil fuels, continually fall back on the argument that those who continue to rely on fossil fuels – that is, virtually all of us – are hypocrites for wanting to evolve away from them. They seem to be saying:  “I am a hypocrite for heating with gas, and if I truly believe in the use of renewable technologies, then I should turn off the heat, cut the power and let the sun shine through my windows for heat and light.”

Can we once and for all put that argument to rest?

(Silly argument from the Warmists here)

We will, for a time, continue to rely on combustion-based manufacturing in order to produce the very solar panels and other renewable technologies that will eventually replace combustion-based manufacturing and energy generation. How quickly that happens is up to all of us.

So, being a hypocrite is OK, because, someday something will replace fossil fuels.
