NPR Is Suddenly Very Concerned Over People Being Charged For Not Getting Health Insurance

The same people who were pretty darned supportive of the mandate in Obamacare, which included penalties/fees/taxes for Citizens who failed to have insurance for 60 straight days in a year are now upset that the GOP health bill does something similar

GOP Health Bill Penalizes Patients Who Let Insurance Lapse

Before he was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in 2015, Anthony Kinsey often went without health insurance. He is a contract lawyer working for staffing agencies on short-term projects in the Washington, D.C., area and sometimes the 90-day waiting period for coverage through a staffing agency proved longer than the duration of his project — if health coverage was offered at all.

When Kinsey, now 57, learned he had cancer, he was able to sign up for a plan with a $629 monthly premium because the agency he was working for offered group coverage that became effective almost immediately. The plan covered the $62,000 surgery to cut out the diseased bone and tissue on the left side of his face, as well as chemotherapy and radiation. His share of the treatment cost was $1,800.

If the GOP health plan recently approved by the House becomes law, people like Kinsey who have health problems might not fare so well trying to buy insurance after a lapse.

The Republican bill would still require insurers to offer coverage to everyone, including people who have pre-existing medical conditions, such as diabetes, asthma or even cancer. But it would allow states to opt out of the federal health law’s prohibition against charging sick people more than healthy ones.

In those states, if people have a break in coverage of more than 63 days, insurers could charge them any price for approximately a year when the consumers next apply for coverage — effectively putting health insurance out of reach for many sick people, analysts say. After a year, they would be charged a regular rate again.

So, this is a mandate with a penalty. In reality, they would be charged a 30% surcharge for 1 year, not whatever insurers want to charge them, when discussing the penalty. I thought Liberals liked the idea of a mandate with a penalty/fine/tax? They fought hard to keep the one in Obamacare.

The problem with the GOP mandate, as well as the Ocare mandate, is that there are no waivers. If you lose you job, which means you lose your insurance, and are out of work for that time period (60 days for Ocare, 63 for GOP plan), you’ll be penalized. COBRA coverage is not cheap, and people who lost a job are worried about their money lasting. Then they get a new job, and usually aren’t eligible for company health insurance for 90 days. Heck, if you leave one job on Friday and start a new on on Monday, you’ll be out of health insurance for over 60/63 days. There should be waivers for situations. We aren’t talking about people saying “I’ll take my chances” and then want insurance when something happens.

It is hilarous, though, that Liberals are attempting to say that requiring people to maintain continuous coverage, and getting penalized if they don’t, is now problematic when it wasn’t before.

California Government Run By Democratic Party Has A Pay Gap Issue

It’s always great when the people who constantly bang the drum about an issue are the worst offenders, is it not? From ‘climate change’ to taking money from Wall Street to dark money to not paying $15 an hour (and failing to pay OT and even the minimum wage) to so much more, and this

(LA Times) When California updated its equal pay law in 2015, there was no shortage of fanfare. Women’s rights groups called it one of the toughest in the country. Gov. Jerry Brown, in a symbolic flourish, signed the new measure at a Richmond park named after feminist icon Rosie the Riveter.

But a state report released last fall underscored how far California has to go before its rhetoric matches reality when it comes to paying state workers. According to its findings, there is a 20.5% disparity in pay between female and male state employees — a wider gap than in the federal civil service and the private sector in California and nationwide.

Got that? Worse. And Government is going to continue to make changes to fix this. Supposedly

As lawmakers plumb deeper into the pay gap debate, the challenge before them becomes more daunting. While the mantra “equal pay for equal work” sounds straightforward, experts say lagging female earnings are rooted in unconscious bias and persistent undervaluing of jobs held by women — phenomena not easily solved by legislation.

So, wait, Democrats are a huge majority in the public sector, and they are sexists? How ’bout them apples! The report states that the pay gap won’t be fixed till, get this, 2044.

Assemblyman Jim Cooper (D-Elk Grove) has offered one solution: Make sure California’s equal pay laws apply to the public sector. He’s pushing a bill that would make public employers subject to existing law, including a 2015 update that expanded its purview to “substantially similar” work, not just identical jobs.

“If it’s good enough for the private sector, it should also be good enough for the public sector,” Cooper said.

That’s weird. It doesn’t? And here come the excuses

“The issue that presents itself here is not as much one of disparate pay, but an unequal distribution of gender throughout the classification system,” said Joe DeAnda, spokesman for the California Department of Human Resources.

Women tend to work in sectors with lower salary ranges, such as administrative support or social work, while men tend to hold jobs with higher pay — particularly public safety jobs such as California Highway Patrol officer or firefighter. More than 61% of men in state government make more than $70,000, according to the Human Resources Department, while just 39% of women do.

Maia Downs, who works in Monterey Park as a state adoption specialist finding homes for neglected or abused children, said the salary range for her profession, which requires a graduate degree and is dominated by women, is significantly lower than those for jobs predominantly held by men.

“It’s sanctioned discrimination,” said Downs of the low salary ranges for female-dominated positions.

That sounds familiar to the debate, does it not? Firefighters and police officers, male dominated jobs, tend to be more valuable than things like an adoption specialist, because they are rather more dangerous. Women often go into professions which have always had lower pay, and aren’t going to change.

But, hey, California could change this easily. It could pass a law that all jobs should be paid the same in state government based on, say, time on the job. So, a female with a Women’s Studies degree working as a social studies advisor and on the job for 10 years would make the same as a SWAT member on the job for 10 years. Seems fair, right?

White House To Go Blue In Honor Of Peace Officers Memorial Day Tonight

This is not going over well in Progressive World

(The Hill)  President Trump announced Monday that he’ll light the White House blue to honor police officers for Monday’s Peace Officer Memorial Day.

The president signed a proclamation Monday declaring the day “Peace Officer Memorial Day” and the upcoming week “Police Week.” At the signing ceremony, Trump said that he would also request that American flags fly at half-mast to memorialize fallen officers, according to a pool report.

“During Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who have been killed or disabled in the course of serving our communities. Police officers are the thin blue line whose sacrifices protect and serve us every day, and we pledge to support them as they risk their lives to safeguard ours,” Trump said in the text of the proclamation.

Awesome! This is what it looked like when he lit the WH blue for World Autism Awareness Week

Snowflake Has Utter Meltdown Over Trump Sign

This is the kind of thing that should be played in commercials to highlight the kind of people who support the Democratic Party

(Campus Reform)  A shocking new video shows a Western Washington University student screaming for at least two-minutes straight after seeing a Donald Trump sign on campus.

According to a video of the incident obtained by Campus Reform, an unknown student reacted to a street preacher’s pro-Trump sign by spiraling into a two-minute fit, at some points even splattering paint on the ground in an apparent attempt at artistic protest.

Turn you audio down, because you don’t want people around you to think someone is being murdered with a rusty, dull knife

California Governor Goes Resistance On ‘Climate Change’ And Illegal Aliens

Moonbeam Brown shows his #Resistance on ‘climate change’ by going hypocrite. Not that anyone should be surprised by a Warmist being a hypocrite

(New Zealand Herald) California Gov. Jerry Brown will travel to China to discuss clean energy policy with international leaders next month, his office announced Friday.

He’ll attend an international energy conference in Beijing with delegates from nearly two dozen countries during his visit during the first week of June.

He will also visit Chengdu in Sichuan province and Nanjing in Jiangsu province during the weeklong trip. Both provinces are, along with California, part of the Under2 Coalition of regions that have pledged to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Brown’s office says the trip will strengthen California’s climate, clean energy and economic ties with China. The Pacific Rim county is the world’s top carbon polluter. The United States generates the second-largest amount of carbon pollution.

How does taking a long fossil fueled flight (will he be traveling coach, or private jet?) along with all the fossil fuels used for automobiles to ferry him around help on climate and clean energy? I wonder if Jerry will note that China is undercutting solar development around the world and in California by selling poorly built solar panels at a market loss.

(Breitbart) Last week, California Governor Jerry Brown unveiled his May revisions to the state budget proposal he rolled out in January. Buried deep among billions of dollars in proposed new spending are millions of dollars for the state to provide criminal defense for illegal immigrants in California who are facing deportation to their home country by our own federal government. (snip)

It is certainly controversial, to say the least, for a state government, within the United States, to start providing taxpayer dollars to fight efforts by the United States to deport people who have entered the country, or overstayed their visas, in violation of the law.

To find this controversial spending proposal, just in the summary document of the budget, you have to comb through to the Department of Social Services section, and then read all of the way through to page 38, in the Health and Human Services subsection – where you find under “Immigration Services” an increase of $15 million to $30 million “to further expand the availability of legal services for people seeking, “…deportation defense…”.

Imagine how many legal citizens of California could be protected with that money. How many low income people could be given a better education to obtain a good paying job. How many loans could be provided for low income businesses. Or, just to clean the streets.

Trump Calls For Better Women’s Healthcare On Mother’s Day

Obviously, Democrats are going to have a big problem with this

(Politico) In a statement celebrating Women’s Health Week, President Donald Trump on Sunday called on improving health care access for “quality prenatal, maternal, and newborn care,” in addition to ensuring paid family leave for both mothers and fathers.

“Ensuring affordable, accessible, and quality health care is critical to improving women’s health and ensuring that it fits their priorities at any stage of life,” Trump said in his statement, issued on Mother’s Day.

And then he took shots at Obamacare

“Under the current health-care system, however, the lack of choice in health insurance and in health-care providers, along with skyrocketing premium and out-of-pocket costs, are failing our citizens, our families, and, in particular, our women.”

That’s the system that Democrats set up.

He also called for more paid maternity leave, which is a big push from his daughter Ivanka.

Under the House bill that was passed last month, the American Health Care Act, funding for Medicaid, which covers approximately 40 percent of pregnancies, would be slashed. In addition, federal funds for Planned Parenthood would be cut for a year. The bill would also prohibit the use of federal tax credits to buy insurance that includes coverage of abortion.

Apparently, in Liberal World, the only ones who can offer health services to women are Planned Parenthood. Even though their services are limited, and do not even include mammograms. Of course, in Liberal World, getting an abortion because people were irresponsible when having sex is considered a health service. And liberals consider abortion an “essential health benefit.”

Much like when George W. Bush was president, there’s literally nothing Trump can say, write, or do that won’t cause immediate moonbattery. The Politico article is rife with vulgarity and abuse, and Twitter isn’t much better. But, that’s the pro-killing the unborn world Liberals live in.

It’s surfer girl week on IAYS! BTW, just an observation, I’ve never gotten the point of ladies wearing skimpy bikinis, especially French cut bottoms, while surfing. Washington Post Goes Down The Moonbat Hole Of Impeachment

It’s the height of irresponsibility for the Washington Post, but, then, rather than being a news organization, they’ve finalized their switch to being part of The Resistance. They would never have allowed an op-ed stating that Barack Obama should be impeached (I intentionally picked an over-the-top article), and typically shot down those few people who overtly called for Obama’s impeachment. But, now, they have a moonbat Resistance movement to pander to, as written by Laurence H. Tribe, a Carl M. Loeb University Professor and Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Law School.

Trump must be impeached. Here’s why.

The time has come for Congress to launch an impeachment investigation of President Trump for obstruction of justice.

The remedy of impeachment was designed to create a last-resort mechanism for preserving our constitutional system. It operates by removing executive-branch officials who have so abused power through what the framers called “high crimes and misdemeanors” that they cannot be trusted to continue in office.

Now the country is faced with a president whose conduct strongly suggests that he poses a danger to our system of government.

Except, most citizens couldn’t care less about the firing of James Comey, which, by the way, was completely legal. It’s only in Liberal World that anyone cares, and it’s strictly on a “let’s make anything up because Trump won the election and we’re off our meds” rationale. None of them care when Obama and his administration were thwarting justice.

There’s actually nothing in this unhinged screed by a supposed Constitutional scholar that fits Article II section 4 “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” There are no high Crimes nor Misdemeanors. No treason. No bribery. The GOP controls the House, which is where impeachment originates. The Senate adjudicates impeachment. Controlled by the GOP. So, it’s not happening. So, what is this really all about?

But whether it is devotion to principle or hunger for political survival that puts the prospect of impeachment and removal on the table, the crucial thing is that the prospect now be taken seriously, that the machinery of removal be reactivated, and that the need to use it become the focus of political discourse going into 2018.

That’s right, it’s strictly about politics, as a way to whip people up in order to attempt to regain the House and Senate in 2018. There may be some Democrats who are serious, such as Nutty Maxine Waters, but, most of this impeachment schtick is simply a cynical, and dangerous, ploy to win an election. They might find that the more they ramp up the crazy, the more people back away from the crazy, and support Trump and the Republicans. It could very well backfire.

Seriously, even Erik Erickson, who was an original member of the Never Trump movement, and hasn’t really changed his attitude since, says this impeachment stuff is a fantasy.
