‘Climate Change’ Will Cause More Extreme El Nino Events Or Something

Today’s prognostication of doom, in which the political climate scientists have found a new way to create a scenario of doom that is not disprovable. Using computer models, of course

Scientists just found a surprising possible consequence from a very small amount of global warming

Even if we meet our most ambitious climate goal — keeping global temperatures within a strict 1.5 degrees Celsius (or 2.7 degree Fahrenheit) of their preindustrial levels — there will still be consequences, scientists say. And they’ll last for years after we stop emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

New research suggests that extreme El Niño events — which can cause intense rainfall, flooding and other severe weather events in certain parts of the world — will occur more and more often as long as humans continue producing greenhouse gas emissions. And even if we’re able to stabilize the global climate at the 1.5-degree threshold, the study concludes, these events will continue to increase in frequency for up to another 100 years afterward. The findings were published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.

“It was really a surprise that what we find is after we reach 1.5 degrees Celsius and stabilize world temperatures, the frequency of extreme El Niño continued to increase for another century,” said Wenju Cai, a chief research scientist at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and one of the study’s lead authors. “We were expecting that the risk would stabilize.”

So, if any big El Nino’s occur, they can now Blame ‘climate change.’ And if they do not occur, they can say “see? We told you that these big government measures and taxes and stuff worked.” But, you know there will be big ones in the future, because that’s what happens. And little ones, which will also be linked to and blamed on anthropogenic climate change.

The researchers used a collection of 13 climate models to simulate a scenario in which global carbon dioxide emissions peak around the year 2040 and then decline, a trajectory that would keep the world within the 1.5-degree threshold. They then took note of how frequently these extreme events occurred in the simulations.

You can pretty much throw it in the garbage at this point.

Fail: Climate Change Garden Withers Due To Incompetence

This is what happens when you let your feelings get in the way of science

(Syracuse.com)  Three years ago, Syracuse University announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind “climate change garden” to study the effects of climate change on plants.

But today, the garden of 100 trees and shrubs in front of SU’s $114 million life sciences building is being ripped up and replaced because many of the trees were simply too big and are already dying.

“The specifications we used were those of a landscape architect who wanted the garden to look nice right off the bat,” said Doug Frank, one of two SU professors running the project. “The trees were too big and root masses too small, so we weren’t able to really get them to a stage where we felt they were healthy and we could use them.”

Here’s what they were thinking in terms of plants being doomed from small increases in CO2 (otherwise known as “plant food”) and warmth (because plants do awesome when it’s cold) from the “announced” link

“My hypothesis would be that the local species would not do as well over time,” Frank said. “You would see their growth rates decline, and the species native to warmer climates would see increased growth rates. I think of our garden as a harbinger of what Central New York forests will look like in the future.”

Now back to the new article

“It was a kind of comedy of errors,” said SU biology professor Jason Fridley, who works with Frank on the garden.

The whole “science” of anthropogenic climate change in a nutshell.

Surprise: National Anthem Protests Biggest Reason People Tuned Out NFL Games

It’s not the only reason, and only a small amount tuned out, but, when you equate that small percent with the number of people who watch football games, the drop turns rather huge

From Darren Rovell at ESPN

National anthem protests were the top reason that NFL fans watched fewer games last season, according to a new survey released by J.D. Power.

The pollster said it asked more than 9,200 people who attended either one football, basketball or hockey game whether they tuned into fewer games and why. Twenty-six percent of those who watched fewer games last season said that national anthem protests, some of which were led by Colin Kaepernick, were the reason.

After that, 24 percent of those surveyed who said they watched fewer games said they did so either because of the league’s off-the-field image issues with domestic violence or with game delays, including penalties.

20% said it was due to advertising and commercials, which is strange, as people simply change the channel.

J.D. Power noted that only 12 percent of the fans it surveyed said they watched fewer NFL games last season, with 27 percent of people saying they watched more and 62 percent saying they watched just as much as they had the season before.

So, only 12%.

NFL game viewership on networks that broadcast games was down an average of 8 percent for the 2016 regular season versus the season before. Before the election (Nov. 8), games for the first nine weeks were down 14 percent compared to 2015. The final eight weeks saw only a drop of 1 percent compared to Weeks 10-17 in 2015.

Interesting numbers. I’d hazard to guess that you have a combination of the ending of the election season, ending of broadcasters and on-air personalities getting political, and ending of broadcasters covering the silly protests by entitled, pampered, highly paid athletes less, plus the short memories of viewers. There were also plenty of great games in the 2nd half of the season. But, the loss of viewers through the first nine weeks represents a huge loss of revenue.

People just want to watch sports. To leave the craziness of the world behind for a few hours (well, could be more like binge watching, starting with morning coverage, moving to the 1 and 4pm games, to the 830pm Sunday night game). Just show us football.

ICE Director Looking Into Charging Sanctuary City Leaders With Smuggling Charges

If there’s one thing that’s working well on Trump’s agenda care …. the rest seems to be a dumpster fire, often self inflicted …. it’s the fight against illegal immigration. Things are Getting Done, especially with a leader with Thomas Homan, who really needs to be made the official ICE director

(Washington Times) The country’s top immigration enforcement officer says he is looking into charging sanctuary city leaders with violating federal anti-smuggling laws because he is fed up with local officials putting their communities and his officers at risk by releasing illegal immigrants from jail.

There’s quite a bit of information in the article about other matters illegal immigration related, such as there being more work site compliance enforcement, that officers have been unshackled from the limits imposed by Obama, most illegals are eligible to be picked up, and that the biggest problem now on those lines is the backlog in court.

Mr. Homan is a guy who came up through the ranks of the Border Patrol before going to ICE, so he isn’t just some political appointee with little actual working knowledge, and

“When we knock on doors, as any law enforcement officer will tell you, it’s risky, it’s dangerous. Compare that to arresting someone in the jail, when you know they don’t have weapons in the jail,” he said.

“It’s a matter of time before one of my officers is seriously hurt or doesn’t go home because someone made a political decision on the backs of my officers,” he said.

And you can bet the current DOJ will jump down the throats of the sanctuary jurisdictions when that happens.

But he said he won’t be chased out of “sanctuaries” and pointedly raised a section of federal code — 8 U.S.C. 1324 — that outlaws attempts to “conceal, harbor or shield” illegal immigrants.

“I think these sanctuary cities need to make sure they’re on the right side of the law. They need to look at this. Because I am,” he said.

Asked whether that means he will recommend prosecutions, he said, “We’re looking at what options we have.”

The law carries a penalty of five years in prison in most cases, but penalties could rise to include life in prison or even death if someone is killed during the crime.

And this puts sanctuary jurisdiction leaders on notice. ICE operations won’t end in sanctuary jurisdictions, especially since these places tend to incent illegals to come to them, and problems from picking up illegals may fall in the laps of those sanctuary leaders. Such as a violation of federal law.

He also dropped another truth bomb

Poll: Majority Of Warmists Refuse To Practice What They Preach

A very interesting poll from YouGov

Most climate change believers haven’t changed their lifestyles

57% of Americans now believe that human activity and natural causes are affecting Earth’s climate. Among them, most oppose President Trump’s pulling the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement and 63% think the nations of the world should all work together to improve the global environment.

Only 15% think it is solely Mankind’s fault. Only 13% think solely natural causation. The interesting thing here is that the question does assign a percent to how much man and nature are responsible in the middle ground question. I myself would answer that man AND nature are at fault. I’ve discussed this many times, and I think real climatic changes, as opposed to the manufactured data ones, is about 10-25%, and much of that is simply land use and the urban heat island effect.

Here’s where it gets fun

We asked respondents about their consumption of fossil fuels and red meat, both of which have been noted for their impact on Earth’s ecosystems. Commercial beef production, for instance, accounts for more greenhouse gas each year than all the cars on the planet. 13% of climate change believers said they’ve greatly reduced their consumption of red meat, and 17% said they’ve reduced a little. 66% haven’t changed their habits at all.

Climate change believers were also asked about how their fossil fuel consumption has changed since hearing about climate change. 9% have cut back a lot, while 54% haven’t changed their consumption at all.

Here’s what it looks like

So, as we see, the majority aren’t really doing anything in their own lives, and you know that the majority are Warmists. And then there’s this, from the full results

So, after 25+ years of spreading awareness, 48% aren’t really worried, and 35% are just somewhat afraid. The Cult of Climastrology has spent a lot of time and money for negligible outcomes.

‘Climate Change’ Could Maybe Possibly Lead To More Parasitic Worms Or Something

Today’s OMG WE’RE TOTALLY DOOMED (unless you give up your freedom and money to Government) moment

Climate change could lead to more infections from parasitic worms

Fossil records suggest that there could be another consequence of climate change and rising sea levels: an increase in parasitic worm infections.

Scientists at the University of Missouri-Columbia and the University of Bologna studied clams collected in northern Italy that date back to the Holocene Epoch, a time when the planet was warming up after the Ice Age. Parasitic worms called trematodes, also known as flukes and flatworms, would attempt to feed on these ancient clams and the clams would respond by developing pits to keep them out.

By looking at the pits, the researchers learned that the presence of trematodes increased during relatively short periods of sea level rise.

“Based on what we know of these sediments, these were processes happening on the scale of hundreds of years, rather than thousands,” said John Huntley, a paleontologist at Mizzou.

Of course, despite some further doomy discussion in the article and from Mr. Huntley, we learn

However, researchers haven’t figured out how sea level rise could increase infections from parasitic worms. Huntley’s team recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation to help understand that connection.

The seas go up, the seas go down. What caused the last glaciation period to end, leading to a massive sea rise? And why can’t the current warm period be mostly/solely caused by the same?

Woman Plays Games At Immigration Checkpoint, Is Shocked!!! That She Was Detained

This is a story that has been hanging out for a couple days now, but seems to be growing as illegal alien loving/immigration officer hating news outlets get in on the Outrage, even as far away as Columbus, Ohio

Woman records confrontation after refusing to answer immigration questions

A California woman says she was detained for about 90 minutes after refusing to tell border patrol agents if she is a US citizen.

One of Shane Parmely’s children recorded the exchange last Friday while sitting in the back seat of the car, KFMB reported.

Parmely, a teacher from San Diego, was approached by agents when she approached an inland immigration checkpoint. The agents asked her if she was a US citizen.

“Are we crossing a border?” Parmely responded.

“No,” he said, “But are you United States citizens?”

“Are we crossing a border?” Parmely responded. “I’ve never been asked if I’m a citizen before when I’m traveling down the road.”

“This is an immigration checkpoint,” the agent responded.

“Right, but we’re not crossing a border,” Parmely said. “You can ask me, I don’t have to answer.”

Actually, by law, she does. But, what was really going on here?

Parmely told KFMB she refused to answer the questions in a show of solidarity with friends who say they have been aggressively questioned by border patrol agents.

“It’s horrifying to hear what has happened to my friends’ kids who are just brown,” she said.

“So, if I have an accent, and I’m brown, can I just say, ‘Yes,’ and go ahead or do I have to prove it?” Parmely asked the agent. “I have a bunch of teacher friends who are sick of their kids being discriminated against.”

In other words, she intentionally provoked an incident here, and then complained when she got what she was asking for. This isn’t one of those things that just happened, as you can see from the video at the link. The officers were respectful and polite. She was nasty and rude.

Via Newsbusters, a CBS News This Morning report noted that she asked her kids to start recording as they approached the checkpoint. She knew she was going to create a scene.

The Border Patrol released this statement

Border Patrol checkpoints are critical tool for the enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws. At a Border Patrol checkpoint, an agent may question a vehicle’s occupants about their citizenship, place of birth, and request document proof of immigration status, how legal status was obtained and make quick observations of what is in plain view in the interior of the vehicle. During the course of the immigration inspection, if an occupant refuse to answer an agent’s questions, the agent may detain the driver for a reasonable amount of time until he or she can make a determination regarding the occupant’s immigration status. It is agency policy that all individuals with whom we interact are treated with dignity and respect.

She, and many illegal alien/immigration enforcement agent hating news outlets seem very proud that she never answered the question. Well, that’s because the Border Patrol would have verified who she was, before releasing her after a “heart-wrenching” 90 minutes. She asked for trouble, and go it.

GOP Controlled Senate Looks Towards More “Modest” Overhaul Of Ocare

For the most part, overhauling Obamacare, otherwise known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (otherwise known as the Putting Government In Control Of Your Healthcare And Raising Your Premiums and Deductibles Act), is all the Republicans in Congress have been doing from the start. Once they found a way to start debate, they didn’t even give full repeal a shot

(Vox) On Wednesday afternoon, a cleaner repeal bill, the Obamacare Repeal Reconciliation Act, also failed, 45 to 55, with seven Republicans and all Democrats voting to block it.

The legislation would have repealed Obamacare’s spending on insurance coverage and its taxes on the wealthy and health care industries; it would not have included any new provisions to replace the law. The projected outcome, according to the Congressional Budget Office, would have been 32 million fewer Americans with health insurance 10 years from now without such a replacement.

That is NOT full repeal. So, what to do? Water the already watered down “repeal and replace” even more

GOP momentum grows for more modest plan to overhaul Obamacare

The Senate rejected a proposal Wednesday that would have repealed major parts of the Affordable Care Act, but Republican leaders were growing more confident about their chances of passing a more modest overhaul of the health-care law later this week.

Republicans appeared to be coalescing around a “skinny repeal” that would abolish the individual and employer insurance mandates and perhaps just one tax in an attempt to sustain their seven-year quest to unwind President Barack Obama’s health-care law. But even if they succeed — and start negotiations with the House — they will face significant obstacles in accomplishing anything more substantial.

Top Republicans such as Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the chamber’s third-ranking Republican, said that although leaders have not yet found “the sweet spot” between conservatives and centrists, they had picked up support for a more modest plan because it did not include deep cuts to Medicaid. Some Republican senators were simply open to any legislation that could keep alive the roller-coaster push for an overhaul.

“We’re edging closer and closer” to getting 50 votes for a bare-bones plan, Thune said. He said leaders were betting that some Republicans who defected on votes this week would feel more pressure to support any bill that emerged from negotiations with the House to face a final vote in the Senate.

Of course, a “skinny” bill which dinks and dunks around the edges but leaves Obacare in force of law has real Conservatives up in arms, proclaiming it would be DOA. Even squishy Lindsay Graham finds that it is not the solution. A group of 10 Republican Governors is also against this deal.

This is a corner Congressional Republicans have backed themselves into. They ran on full repeal of Obamacare for 7 years. Yet, they aren’t really attempting to actually repeal Ocare. Just modify it. And their modifications aren’t even that good.
