El Paso Times Blames U.S. Government For Illegal Alien Deaths

Apparently, because we have an actual border with Mexico, and attempt to protect it, and stop people coming across it illegally, the U.S. is to blame, along with Mexico

Mexico, U.S. share blame for tragedies: Editorial

Recent drownings in the Rio Grande and neighboring canals in El Paso aren’t an isolated tragedy. Like the deaths of 10 migrants in a truck in San Antonio, they are the result of grievous failures by the Mexican and U.S. governments.

So far this year, more than 230 migrants have died or gone missing while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the International Organization on Migration. This month has been the deadliest, with 83 dead or missing through July 24.

There are a few more paragraphs, discussing the human smuggling, and how people just want better lives (I’m betting the editorial board of the El Paso Times wouldn’t be quite so accepting of illegals and their “plight” if they were camping out in the board member’s back yards, which goes for all the other USA Today network papers, such as the Abilene Reporter-News, who picked this up), along with some blame aimed at Mexico for not doing something about the smugglers and gangs, till

But the U.S. government, through its jumbled and ineffectual immigration policies, also shares significant blame for these repeated border tragedies.

Political leadership has refused for years to fix what everyone recognizes is a broken immigration system. An emphasis on “border security” efforts has been unmatched by any efforts to address economic and political realities that drive people to leave their homes for the difficult life of a migrant.

What, exactly, is broken in our immigration system where the government, tasked by the Constitution with stopping outsider invaders, attempts to stop people from crossing the border illegally? Other than that they can’t stop them all, of course. The editorial sure seems to be taking the position that the border should simply be open and anyone who wants to cross it should be able to do so.

Tens of thousands of migrants head to the United States in search of work each year, with many employers willing to hire them at a time of 4 percent unemployment in this country. But lack of political will has prevented the United States from creating any viable legal path to connect migrants and employers, increasing the power of the human smugglers in Mexico and Central America.

Those employers are willing to employ them at a fraction of the minimum wage. Most are actually skill-less people who do not speak our language, do not know our customs, and come from backwards nations.

Increased border security efforts have caused the traffickers to move their human cargo through ever more dangerous means, such as crossing swollen rivers.

See? How dare the U.S. government protect its borders!!!!!1!!!!

The xenophobia and political weakness has led the United States to create a de facto immigration policy that places human lives in increasing danger. That also is a stain on a great country.

By crying xenophobia, they are advocating for open borders. I recommend that all the editorial board members allow illegals to come live at their home

It’s crazy to blame the United States because people choose to break our laws. However, there is one caveat: the editorial board forgot to assign blame to Barack Obama, who created a situation where illegals thought they could get away with ignoring our immigration laws.

Court Declares Officials Can’t Block People On Social Media

Remember the whole issue about a few whiny unhinged tools attempting to sue because President Trump blocked them on Twitter? Well, there’s this, via Hot Air

I first wrote about a lawsuit brought by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University a couple of months ago. As you may recall, it involves a group of people who had been blocked on Twitter by President Trump after some of their “constructive criticism” (read: trolling) apparently generated enough spam in his mentions column to be noticed. This was somehow interpreted as a First Amendment violation, leading to the pending lawsuit.

While the entire premise sounds like some sort of parody stolen from the pages of The Onion, we may have an early indication of how the courts will be treating such questions. This case doesn’t deal with the President, but instead an obscure fight involving the Board of Supervisors in Loudoun County, Virginia. The board’s chair apparently blocked a constituent, Brian C. Davidson, on Facebook (for a period of 12 hours before unblocking him) and deleted a post of her own which contained a comment from Davidson. The results from the initial hearing at the federal district court are disappointing to say the least. (Slate)

Davidson sued, alleging a violation of his free speech rights. As U.S. District Judge James C. Cacheris explained in his decision, Randall essentially conceded in court that she had blocked Davidson “because she was offended by his criticism of her colleagues in the County government.” In other words, she “engaged in viewpoint discrimination,” which is generally prohibited under the First Amendment.

Jazz Shaw has much more, well worth the read. As for me, I’m just wondering if deputy DNC chair Keith Ellison will unblock me, or if I should sue him

NY Times: The Next Mass Extinction Is Coming From Carbon Pollution Or Something

Over the past 10 years, the Cult of Climastrology has been working hard to compare the tiny increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide to previous periods, particularly those which featured mass extinctions. This outline of doom has become more prevalent over the past 4 years as they have dramatically increased their scary prognostications in an attempt to make people fearful enough to stop tuning their cult out. Now, we have the NY Times giving a platform to Peter Brannen, who writes about world ending doom quite a bit, but, get this, isn’t a scientist, but, just a journalist. This is the lead opinion piece this morning in the Opinion section

When Life on Earth Was Nearly Extinguished

It has been called the “Great Dying.”

The planet’s most profound catastrophe struck 252 million years ago, at the end of the Permian period, killing 90 percent of life in the ocean and 75 percent on land. The fossil record nearly goes silent and remains startlingly impoverished for millions of years: trees disappear, bacteria replace coral reefs, insects hush. What looks like fungus spikes in the fossil record, perhaps the sepulchral rot of a dying world.

It was as close as earth has ever come to being sterilized altogether, and would take 10 million years for the planet to fully recover, setting the stage for the eventual rise of the dinosaurs.

“The End-Permian mass extinction is unique in earth history,” said Seth Burgess, a geologist with the United States Geological Survey. “Nothing else is as severe, and it’s not even close.”

Yeah, it was pretty bad, but, hey, it gets worse!

A growing body of evidence suggests that this ancient apocalypse was brought on, in large part, by gigantic emissions of carbon dioxide from volcanoes that erupted across a vast swath of Siberia. Today the consequence of quickly injecting huge pulses of carbon dioxide into the air is discussed as if the threat exists only in the speculative output of computer models. But, as scientists have discovered, this has happened many times before, and sometimes the results were catastrophic.

In fact, most scientific research shows that it was a combination of the massive volcanic release, reduced oxygen levels, and increased methane levels. Some even suggest that there was one or more strikes from a comet or asteroid that caused the event.

This month the journal Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology published a special issue that explores a growing body of evidence that past volcanic releases of carbon dioxide may have helped drive many of the most extreme die-offs in earth history.

Of course it does. Because climate change doom from carbon dioxide is all the rage.

Though volcanoes in Siberia had already been erupting for around 300,000 years, Dr. Burgess’s work indicates that it wasn’t until the magma started burning through fossil fuels on a colossal scale that the mass extinction began. The carbon dioxide was delivered to the atmosphere just as effectively as by any coal-fired power plant or minivan muffler today.

Wait, did the life present at the time have fossil fueled vehicles and planes?

Today humanity plays the role of that primeval Siberian supervolcano, burning through the world’s ancient stores of carbon, long buried underground in the form of oil, coal and natural gas. Though there were likely other killers afoot in the Great Dying — like ozone-destroying halocarbons, acid rain and a heavy dose of toxic heavy metals raining from the volcanic smog — it was the chemistry-warping pulse of carbon dioxide that has attracted the most suspicion for its role in nearly ending the world. And we have only to look at the modern ocean to see why.

Not mentioned in this unhinged rant, nor, quite frankly, most others that precede it, is that atmospheric CO2 was over 3,000ppm. And, yes, it did jump big time. But, so did the methane levels while the oxygen levels dropped. This is all per reconstructions. But, hey, chemistry-warping carbon pollution because you drove a fossil fueled vehicle to work.

As you can expect, the rest of the screed is all about man-caused dooooooooooom, attempting to scare people into giving up their money and freedom while empowering Big authoritarian government. They just never get the idea that trotting out stories of doom, especially trying to say we’re on our way to the next mass extinction, just doesn’t help their cause.

SJW Doug Glanville Has Meltdown Over Mean Comments Towards Female ESPN Analyst

Doug Glanville, who was a heck of a baseball player, and a pretty good play by play guy now, has an Outrage (of course, like most SJWs, he’s never said a word about the sexism that’s part of Islam)

Who Gets To Call The Game?

(First 2 paragraphs about him going on a tear over the positioning of a player and Wrigley Park and stuff, due to his knowledge of the game)

Jessica Mendoza, the ESPN baseball analyst, does not have the advantage of being able to start any sentence with, “When I played for the Chicago Cubs.” True, she is an Olympic gold and silver medalist in softball; a trusted insider, according to colleagues, M.L.B. players and staff; and a diligent, inquisitive and passionate commentator.

She is also — even though some data suggests that 45 percent of baseball fans are women — ESPN’s first and only female M.L.B. analyst. Today, the vast majority of color commentators are either former Major League Baseball players or had direct major-league experience.

Which kinda makes sense, does it not? People watching and listening want the Voice Of Authority, and having a former player yammering on tends to lend credibility, which is why you see so many former athletes calling games and being on sports shows. Interestingly, the vast majority on ESPN are, get this, men. Therefore, ESPN must be sexist.

Still, Mendoza’s standing brings out the underbelly of sports fans’ taste for sexism. It goes beyond casual disagreements about her opinion or jabs because she picked one team over another, and gets at the core of her existence. These comments, mainly from social media, tell her she has no business even being there:

Here are the five cited

  • “She doesn’t belong in the booth with men discussing a game she knows nothing about. It’s like watching a game with a girlfriend.”
  • “So glad we have Jessica Mendoza to commentate. Her years of playing a completely different sport totally makes her qualified.”
  • “Jessica Mendoza is that annoying sister your mom makes you bring everywhere.”
  • “I just changed the channel to ESPN2 so I could stop listening to Jessica Mendoza. BTW I don’t understand Spanish.”
  • “I hate hearing men commentating softball, and I hate hearing women commentating baseball.”

Only the first and last are pretty much sexism. But, really, people are sexist. Racist. Bigoted. Jerks. Welcome to Life On Earth. But, if that’s the worst Glanville can find, it’s really not much. And some people are just not going to like the person in the broadcast booth. I bet you can think of a few you can’t stand. I cannot stand the guys who do the Boston Bruins TV home games, nor the Montreal Canadians. Big time homers. Nor Trip Tracy for the Carolina Hurricanes. I can just barely tolerate the Hurricanes radio announcer, Chuck Kaiton, because he mispronounces the names of players beyond belief.

Mendoza, like most, has to earn it. Not because she’s a woman, but because she’s rather new to the broadcast booth. Tony Romo, in the same manner, has to earn it, especially since he’s replacing one of the best in Phil Simms. Romo has a big uphill battle on his hands. I’ve never heard Mendoza, because ESPN seems to like to mostly broadcast Yankees and Redsox games, rather than Dodgers games. She may be good, she may not.

Does someone have to be a former player? Who was the best in the business? That’s right, Vin Scully, who never played professionally.

You know who else is great? Sherry Ross, who had been calling NJ Devils’ radio games before being let go (bad move, IMO). She didn’t play the game, either.

Really, though, the whole Glanville screed is about people being not allowed to have certain thoughts, and pushing the ESPN SJW agenda. If Mendoza is good, she’ll be recognized. And some people will still not like her, just like some do not like (insert name of broadcaster here). I hate every SF Giants and NY Rangers broadcaster regardless of sex because of who they work for. I don’t care if they’re good and knowledgeable. Makes no difference. They work for Evil teams.

Oh, and, it sure seems like Doug is attempting to protect Mendoza in a sexist, paternalistic manner, does it not?

A Sharknado Is More Likely Due To ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

This is not a repeat from the release of the last terrible horrible no good Sharknado (#4) movie, in which the people involved yammered on about climate change and how the movie relates to it. This is a new level of insanity

(NY Post) Climate change bites!

A “Sharkicane” — a terrifying twist on the meteorological havoc wrought in the cult flick “Sharknado” — is more likely than ever to strike Earth, the movie’s creator jawed to The Post.

“Sharknado 5: Global Swarming” takes a campy dive into what might happen if climate change spiraled out of control — and features a raging hurricane-tornado that sucks up massive man-eaters and spits them out onto Rome, London and Amsterdam.

But as the planet heats up, wild weather patterns really do increase the chance of a fishy storm of biblical proportions, according to “Sharknado” originator Thunder Levin.

“We know that powerful enough tornadoes and hurricanes can lift large objects, including sharks if they’re passing over water,” said Levin, who wrote the screenplay for the original “Sharknado,” which aired on the Syfy channel to great finfare in 2013.

“As global warming gets worse, it adds more energy to the atmospheric system,” he said. “So it’s perfectly logical: A more powerful weather phenomenon makes [a Sharkicane] more likely.”

Interestingly, tropical storm systems and tornadoes numbers have gone down over the years.

One expert agreed it’s a whale of a problem — that could increase the chances of end-of-days-style hurricanes.

“It’s a scientific fact that we are living in a warmer world. And it will continue to increase and accelerate as more carbon enters the atmosphere,” said Bill Patzert, a climatologist at the California Institute of Technology.

If a scientist is yammering on about “carbon” rather than the scientifically proper term “carbon dioxide”, they’re talking politics as laid out in the Cult of Climastrology handbook, not science.

This whole thing is just stupid. And then the Cultists wonder why people are tuning out despite all the propaganda push.

Illegal Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Two Women Had Immigration Detainer Lodged And Ignorned

One of the refrains we hear from those who support illegal aliens is that they are fine with the “good ones” but not the criminal ones. In practice, though, the supporters and sanctuary jurisdictions look to protect all illegals. Like this upstanding one

(Oregon Live) Federal immigration agents lodged a detainer in December 2016 against the man accused of attacking two women in Northeast Portland this week, officials said.

When Sergio Jose Martinez was held in the Multnomah County Jail on Dec. 7, 2016, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement requested local authorities notify the agency prior to releasing him, spokeswoman Virginia Kice said in a statement to The Oregonian/OregonLive on Friday.

Martinez has been deported 20 times, according to Multnomah County court documents. He has a lengthy criminal record that includes several convictions in Oregon and burglary convictions in other states, according to court documents and the immigration agency.

Local authorities released Martinez on Dec. 8, 2016 without notifying immigration authorities, Kice said.

Oregon law prohibits public agencies from spending money, using equipment or enlisting personnel to enforce federal immigration law.

Martinez would qualify as one of the “bad ones”, wouldn’t you think? In this case, ICE was not even asking for a hold, just a heads up for when he would be released so they could come get him. Is it really so burdensome to place a call or send an email?

Martinez is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her Northeast Portland home on Monday morning, then stealing her credit cards and car. Police say he attacked another woman in a parking garage later that day.

He is charged with several crimes including first-degree robbery, sex abuse and robbery and second-degree assault.

These crimes are on the heads of Sheriff Mike Reese and the people who passed the Oregon law. Do they require that personnel, money, and equipment cannot be used to enforce other federal laws, such as kidnapping? No. If interim ICE Director Thomas Homan wants to look to charge people for violations of immigration law, here’s a good place to start. There are many statutes broken, and many parts of the statutes, such as in 8 US 1324, that were broken by the jail and the lawmakers who passed the law that disallows cooperation with federal law.

‘Climate Change’ Will Cause More Extreme El Nino Events Or Something

Today’s prognostication of doom, in which the political climate scientists have found a new way to create a scenario of doom that is not disprovable. Using computer models, of course

Scientists just found a surprising possible consequence from a very small amount of global warming

Even if we meet our most ambitious climate goal — keeping global temperatures within a strict 1.5 degrees Celsius (or 2.7 degree Fahrenheit) of their preindustrial levels — there will still be consequences, scientists say. And they’ll last for years after we stop emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

New research suggests that extreme El Niño events — which can cause intense rainfall, flooding and other severe weather events in certain parts of the world — will occur more and more often as long as humans continue producing greenhouse gas emissions. And even if we’re able to stabilize the global climate at the 1.5-degree threshold, the study concludes, these events will continue to increase in frequency for up to another 100 years afterward. The findings were published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change.

“It was really a surprise that what we find is after we reach 1.5 degrees Celsius and stabilize world temperatures, the frequency of extreme El Niño continued to increase for another century,” said Wenju Cai, a chief research scientist at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and one of the study’s lead authors. “We were expecting that the risk would stabilize.”

So, if any big El Nino’s occur, they can now Blame ‘climate change.’ And if they do not occur, they can say “see? We told you that these big government measures and taxes and stuff worked.” But, you know there will be big ones in the future, because that’s what happens. And little ones, which will also be linked to and blamed on anthropogenic climate change.

The researchers used a collection of 13 climate models to simulate a scenario in which global carbon dioxide emissions peak around the year 2040 and then decline, a trajectory that would keep the world within the 1.5-degree threshold. They then took note of how frequently these extreme events occurred in the simulations.

You can pretty much throw it in the garbage at this point.
