Cult Of Climastrology: Government Needs To Kill Off The Modern Automobile

Warmists who mostly refuse to give up their own use of fossil fueled vehicles are vexed that the automobile industry hasn’t abandoned the manufacture of fossil fueled vehicles, which is a shocker in itself, because we all know that consumers are clamoring for expensive vehicles that can barely get us to work and back, right?

The modern automobile must die

Germany was supposed to be a model for solving global warming. In 2007, the country’s government announced that it would reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by the year 2020. This was the kind of bold, aggressive climate goal scientists said was needed in all developed countries. If Germany could do it, it would prove the target possible.

So far, Germany has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 27.7 percent — an astonishing achievement for a developed country with a highly developed manufacturing sector. But with a little over a year left to go, despite dedicating $580 billion toward a low-carbon energy system, the country “is likely to fall short of its goals for reducing harmful carbon-dioxide emissions,” Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday. And the reason for that may come down not to any elaborate solar industry plans, but something much simpler: cars.

“At the time they set their goals, they were very ambitious,”Patricia Espinosa, the United Nations’ top climate change official (who takes lots of fossil fueled car and plane trips), told Bloomberg. “What happened was that the industry — particularly the car industry — didn’t come along.”

It’s almost like car manufacturers are making the vehicles that consumers mostly want. Heck, Ford is going to do away with almost all their cars in favor of SUVs and trucks because they think consumers no longer want fuel efficient sedans. Other US manufacturers are doing the same.

Anyhow, we get lots of typical Warmist whining, before

For Germany to meet emissions targets, “half of the people who now use their cars alone would have to switch to bicycles, public transport, or ride-sharing,” Heinrich Strößenreuther, a Berlin-based consultant for mobility strategies told Yale Environment 360’s Christian Schwägerl last fall. That would require drastic policies, like having local governments ban high-emitting cars in populated places like cities. (In fact, Germany’s car capital, Stuttgart, is considering it.) It would also require large-scale government investments in public transportation infrastructure: “A new transport system that connects bicycles, buses, trains, and shared cars, all controlled by digital platforms that allow users to move from A to B in the fastest and cheapest way — but without their own car,” Schwägerl said. (snip)

The most effective solution would be to combine these policies. Governments would require drastic improvements in fuel efficiency for gas-powered vehicles, while investing in renewable-powered electric car infrastructure. At the same time, cities would overhaul their public transportation systems, adding more bikes, trains, buses and ride-shares. Fewer people would own cars.

You vill comply, Herr Comrade.

Super Socialist Ocasio-Cortez Visits Spot Going Out Of Business Due To Policies She Supports

Utter self-awareness fail, as highlighted by the Investor Business Daily editorial board

Ocasio-Cortez Mourns Restaurant Driven Out Of Business By Minimum Wage Law She Backs

Economic Illiteracy: This week, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez “swung by” to say goodbye to a restaurant where she used to work. What she didn’t say is that it is closing because the owners can’t afford New York City’s soon-to-be $15 minimum wage — the very job-killing policy Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow Democrats want to impose nationwide.

“The restaurant I used to work at is closing its doors,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Monday. “I swung by today to say hi one last time, and kid around with friends like old times.”

She was referring to the popular Coffee Shop in Union Square, which was frequented by A-list celebrities and featured on “Sex and the City.” Despite its popularity, the Coffee Shop is going out of business. Why?

Co-owner Charles Milite told the New York Post that the main reason was “the minimum wage is going up and we have a huge number of employees.”

When you impose a government cost of labor increase of 36%, well, you end up laying off over 150 people.

When TV host Trevor Noah asked Ocasio-Cortez whether a $15 national minimum wage would stifle economic growth, here was her answer:

“Raising the minimum wage to a living wage will expand the economy. It will create wealth in our economy. And it will increase economic activity in this country.”

Except, this ends up causing the closure of many outlets, along with limiting the hours of full time and part time workers, stopping overtime, turning full time workers into part time workers, and so much more.

Obviously, AOC isn’t the only one: virtually all Democrats support this increase. Their policy hurts everyone.

Because You Use An Ice Maker, ‘Climate Change’ To Make Droughts And Floods More Common

This is all your fault

Drought and floods will become more common as global warming causes weather to ‘stall’

Scorching summer heatwaves and floods are set to become more extreme in the northern hemisphere as global warming makes weather patterns linger longer in the same place.

According to a study published by Nature Communications, growing temperatures in the Arctic have slowed the circulation of the jet stream and other giant winds, affecting pressure fronts across continents.

This summer, parts of Europe were hit by heatwaves and wildfires including Sweden, Greece and Spain.

The research found that high and low pressure fronts are becoming “stuck”, while the weather is increasingly less able to moderate itself.

These extreme systems could turn sunny days into baking heatwaves, tinder-dry conditions into wildfires, and rainwater into floods.

The research paper warned that the mixed colliding pressures could lead to “very extreme extremes”, that happen when abnormally high temperatures linger for an unusually prolonged period.

“Could lead”

https://twitter.com/OneLaneHwy/status/1032085964523495424

And there’s still no proof that this is mostly/solely caused by mankind’s release of greenhouse gases. But we can fix it with a tax/fee!

NY Times: That Illegal Alien Who Killed Mollie Tibbetts Worked For A Republican, You Know

The NY Times has a rather informal motto, “the paper of record.” It’s formal slogan has been “all the news fit to print.” And there’s this

The NY Times has been the nation’s leading newspaper. So, we of course, get this, an article that just continues to be updated, rather than news one, and it has a big whopper

Body Believed to Be That of Mollie Tibbetts, Iowa College Student, Is Found

9:15 p.m.

The immigrant from Mexico charged in the kidnapping and murder of an Iowa college student worked at a dairy farm owned by the family of a prominent state Republican leader.

Yarrabee Farms said in a statement that Cristhian Bahena Rivera had worked at its farms for the last four years and was an employee in good standing. (what’s missing right here?) The company said it was shocked to hear that Rivera had been charged in the death of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts.

Spokesman Dane Lang said Tuesday night that Yarrabee Farms is a “small family farm” owned by him and his father, Craig Lang, who has long been a prominent Iowa farmer and political figure.

Craig Lang previously served as president of the Iowa Farm Bureau and president of the Iowa Board of Regents, which governs the state’s public universities. In June, he lost a close GOP primary in the race for state agriculture secretary.

Rivera was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in Tibbetts’ death.

What’s the takeaway? That a Republican had employed an illegal alien who ended up killing Mollie. That Republicans are hypocrites. Republicans bad!!!! CNN gives the “blame Republicans” schtick a whirl, though they do include the Relevant Information

Suspect worked for prominent Republican (this is a subhead in the article)

Rivera has been in the area for four to seven years, Rahn said. (snip)

“This individual has worked at our farms for four years, was vetted through the government’s E-Verify system, and was an employee in good standing.”

Many other outlets take this same line about him working for “a prominent Republican”, but include that he passed the E-Verify system. But not the NY Times. And then they wonder why Trump and so many others call them “fake news”. Trump really should just call them “biased news”, but, that doesn’t roll of the tongue as well.

Story That Will Soon Disappear: “Immigrant” Murdered Mollie Tibbetts

The local and national media have been all over the story of Mollie Tibbetts, who disappeared. You can bet the story will disappear after today

Immigrant charged with murder of Iowa college student

A man from Mexico living in the U.S. illegally has confessed to kidnapping college student Mollie Tibbetts while she was running in her small Iowa hometown, killing her and dumping her body in a rural field, authorities said Tuesday.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tibbetts, whose July 18 disappearance set off a massive search involving state and federal authorities.

Rivera led investigators early Tuesday to a body believed to be Tibbetts in a cornfield about 12 miles (19 kilometers) southeast of Brooklyn, Iowa, where Tibbetts was last seen running, Division of Criminal Investigation special agent Rick Rahn said.

“I can’t speak about the motive. I can just tell you that it seemed that he followed her, seemed to be drawn to her on that particular day, for whatever reason he chose to abduct her,” Rahn told reporters at a news conference outside the sheriff’s office in Montezuma, where Rivera was being jailed.

CNN refers to Rivera as an “undocumented immigrant“, as you’d expect. So does ABC News, along with NBC News. CBS uses language similar to the above, which is from the AP. Many sites, such as the HuffPost and UK Guardian US edition, aren’t even bothering with a story. Nor is the NY Times, at least on the front page of the web edition.

The media was really hoping it would be the white, older farmer. Now, they have to bury the story. And yet another family has to go through the pain of loss because our government won’t do their damned job in stopping illegals and deporting illegals.

“Protesters” Tear Down, Destroy Statue, No One Is Arrested

Look, I’m not one who supports the Silent Sam statue. For instance

https://twitter.com/MBarberWSOC9/status/1031857259826106368

Of course, it doesn’t mean that this is what the statue is about. And UNC’s Chancellor is not happy

Unlawful and dangerous: UNC chancellor on ‘Silent Sam’ toppling

Protesters on Monday night toppled the controversial “Silent Sam” statue on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

More than 200 protesters first gathered at the Peace and Justice Plaza at about 7 p.m., before marching to the base of the statue, calling for its removal. By 9:30 p.m., the statue was on the ground and the crowd erupted in cheers.

They tore it down and heavily damaged it.

Here’s the thing: no one was arrested. The police stood aside as property was damaged and destroyed. You may not agree with the statue, but, we cannot simply arbitrarily destroy property we do not like in this manner. Are we a nation of law or a nation of whim? One person was arrested on other charges, but, no stopped the destruction of public property. Will the Chancellor do anything to those who are identified? Doubtful.

This is climahysteria at its finest

Sea level rise is already costing property owners on the coast

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Elizabeth Boineau’s 1939 Colonial sits a block and a half from the Ashley River in a sought-after neighborhood of ancient live oaks, charming gardens and historic homes. A year ago, she thought she could sell it for nearly $1 million. But after dropping the price 11 times, Boineau has decided to tear it down.

In March, the city’s Board of Architectural Review approved the demolition — a decision not taken lightly in Charleston’s historic district.

“Each time that I was just finishing up paying off the bills, another flood would hit,” Boineau said.

Boineau is one of many homeowners on the front lines of society’s confrontation with climate change, living in houses where rising sea levels have worsened flooding not just in extreme events like hurricanes, but also heavy rains and even high tides. Now, three studies have found evidence that the threat of higher seas is also undermining coastal property values as home buyers — particularly investors — begin the retreat to higher ground.

If you’re building in a spot that is just barely above sea level, then you’re asking for problems. Just building next to water you’re taking a risk.

On a broad scale, the effect is subtle, the studies show. The sea has risen about eight inches since 1900, and the pace is accelerating, with three inches accumulating since 1993, according to a comprehensive federal climate report released last year. Scientists predict the oceans will rise an additional three to seven inches by 2030, and as much as 4.3 feet by 2100.

First, the report was based on some rather shoddy science. Next up, 8 inches of sea rise over almost 120 years is exactly average during the last 7,000-8,000 years, a period measured after the end of the great meltwater from the end of the last ice age. As I’ve noted numerous times, to get that average you’d need quite a bit more sea rise during the warm periods. The Charleston tide gauge shows 3.25mm per year, equivalent to 1.07 feet per 100 years, nor does it show any acceleration. 4.3 feet by 2100 is just scaremongering.

By comparing properties that are virtually the same but for their exposure to the seas, researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Pennsylvania State University found that vulnerable homes sold for 6.6 percent less than unexposed homes. The most vulnerable properties — those that stand to be flooded after seas rise by just one foot — were selling at a 14.7 percent discount, according to the study, which is set to be published in the Journal of Financial Economics.

Keep reading way down

Indeed, beachfront property is not necessarily declining in value. Rather, the studies suggest that more-exposed properties — including properties that have not yet experienced direct flooding — simply are not appreciating as rapidly as their inland neighbors.

Indeed, beachfront property has already increased so much that it’s hard to go up much more. There are homes along the New Jersey shore where I grew up where the city council’s had to grandfather in lower property values for tax purposes, because the retired folks who bought them decades before wouldn’t be able to afford the property tax. Homes were jumping from a couple hundred thousand to millions in short order.

And, as far as the home mentioned at the beginning? The story finally notes that it is in a very low lying area, as is most of Charleston. It was flooded out multiple times, especially from tropical systems, so, it was damaged a bit. Hence, it was very much over-priced.

But this is still all your fault.

Illegal Alien Dreamers Cycle For Citizenship Or Something

These Dreamers had their chance: President Trump offered a plan that would have legalized three times the number of DACA recipients, all in exchange for border wall funding. Democrats gave a resounding “no.”

Dreamers cycle down west coast to fight U.S. immigration policy

A journey to justice – that’s what a group of young immigration activists are calling their cycling trip down the West Coast.

The group, named the Dream Riders, started cycling south from Seattle 20 days ago and just arrived in San Francisco. They have 16 more days and 800 more miles of cycling to go, until they reach San Diego, their final destination.

Hana says her family immigrated to the U.S. from Korea when she was a child. She’s now a college student riding to raise awareness that all immigrant communities deserve equal opportunity. “I just keep reminding myself, I’m doing this for my community. But I wish I could have done more training before this!”

“I’m Mexican-American, I’ve seen my family targeted, but I also know there are other groups that are vulnerable to deportation,” said Allyson Duarte who is from the Texas border town of McAllen, where many of the ICE detention centers are located. She’s a DACA recipient and immigration activist. “The point of this campaign, is we wanted to emphasize the need for citizenship for everybody.”

First of all, to hell with your fight. You aren’t citizens. You do not get to dictate how the United States runs its immigration programs. If you have a problem with this, go yell at mom and/or dad who brought you to the U.S. illegally, putting you in this position.

Second, you do not get to demand citizenship for everybody. You do not get to demand citizenship for yourself. You should be out there on your knees saying “please.” Be humble and thankful, rather than slurring the US and her citizens. Then there’s this schmuck who was dragged from Mexico to New Jersey by her mother when she was 3, both entering the U.S. illegally

Mr. President, I’m a DACA recipient, please don’t use me as brick in your Wall | Opinion

President Donald Trump has said that the future of DACA – and, more importantly, the path to citizenship for the more than 800,000 people who came to the U.S. illegally as children – hinges on increased border security, particularly the construction of a border wall. Meanwhile, Democrats have expressed the need for increased border security, but vowed not to support the construction of a wall. (snip)

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, I think that it is unfair to use DACA recipients as bargaining chips in these ongoing negotiations. At worst, it is cruel and inhumane. At best, it holds children accountable for choices that were made not of their own volition. And in many instances, these children would not become aware of these made choices until many years – sometimes decades – later.

It doesn’t matter what you think is fair and unfair: you’re here illegally. You do not get that choice. You do not get to dictate. Your parents, in this case, your mom, put you in the situation. Someone has to be held accountable. Tell you what: you tell mom to get out of our country, and we’ll consider legalizing you. Because someone has to be held accountable.

There was a not-so-distant time ago when I, too, was scared to let anyone know my DACA status. I also didn’t know the power of my words, and it is time for others to realize the power of theirs.

Call your legislators and tell them to recognize the faces – the actual lives – of those seeking their rightful citizenship in a country that, for many of us, is the only one we have ever known.

The more these illegals demand citizenship, the more people will turn away. If your child is demanding a toy, do you give it to them?
