Connecticut Looks To Be Latest State To Attempt A Firearms Safe Storage Law

(Livingston County News) Assemblywoman Marjorie Byrnes, R-Caledonia, says legislation passed by the state Legislature that requires gun owners to keep firearms in a locked cabinet or equipped with a trigger-locking device, especially in households with children younger than 16 years old, is “overly restrictive.”

The state Assembly and Senate passed the law (S2450/A2686) on March 4, five weeks after lawmakers approved a package of other gun-control measures.

The latest measure, sponsored by Sen. Liz Krueger, D-Manhattan, and Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-Westchester, makes it a misdemeanor offense to fail to securely store a rifle, shotgun or other firearm or render it incapable of being fired when a child is in a home.

Assembly and Senate Republicans who voted against the measure said it’s an infringement on Second Amendment rights to bear arms and could leave a gun owner defenseless against intruders.

As usual, this negatively effects law abiding gun owners, not criminals who use them. Funny how almost every gun law Democrats push hurts the law abiding, eh?

Hearing on Connecticut gun bills expected to draw large crowd

Advocates for gun rights and gun control are expected to pack a Connecticut legislative hearing on several firearms bills, including measures that would tighten safe storage laws and require people openly carrying guns to produce their permits if police ask.

The legislation to be debated Monday at a Judiciary Committee hearing in Hartford has spurred a flood of written testimony that has been submitted to the panel, both for and against the bills.

The safe storage proposal was drafted in response to the death of 15-year-old Ethan Song, who accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun owned by his friend’s father in their hometown of Guilford in January 2018.

The friend’s father had kept his three guns secured with gun locks in a plastic container in his bedroom closet, but the keys to the locks and ammunition also were in the container, police said.

Prosecutors said they could not charge the friend’s father under the state’s existing safe gun storage law, because it requires only loaded guns to be safely stored and there was no evidence the guns were stored loaded.

Gun control advocates including Ethan’s mother, Kristin Song, said the new bill, called “Ethan’s Law,” would save lives by requiring all guns – loaded or unloaded – to be safely stored. Violating the law would be a felony carrying a prison sentence of one to five years.

Essentially, this would make having a firearm for home defense worthless, unless you plan on carrying it on you while at home. But, would you have it on you while sleeping? It appears as if putting it on the nightstand would violate safe storage.

How will they enforce this, though? Will they send law enforcement to check up on this? Ask kids to narc on their parents or their friends’ parents? And why do Democrats always want to make it harder for law abiding citizens while going easy on actual criminals?

White House Budget Proposal Includes $8.6 Billion For Border Barrier

Trump to request $8.6B in wall funding in ‘tough’ budget request, setting up congressional showdown

President Trump will soon formally seek a total of $8.6 billion in new border wall funding from Congress as part of the White House’s upcoming budget proposal for the next fiscal year, three sources close to the budget process tell Fox News, although the aggressive request faces all-but-certain rejection in Congress amid a growing crisis at the southern border.

The budget is also expected to seek money to establish the Space Force as a new branch of the military, and to sharply curb spending on domestic safety-net programs. The outline includes a total of $2.7 trillion in nondefense spending cuts and the administration says its proposals would put the federal government on track to balance the budget by 2034.

“In the last two years, President Trump and this Administration have prioritized reining in reckless Washington spending. The Budget that we have presented to Congress and the American people … embodies fiscal responsibility, and takes aim at Washington’s waste, fraud, and abuse,” said Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Russ Vought said in a statement Sunday night. Our national debt nearly doubled under the previous Administration and now stands at more than $22 trillion. This Budget shows that we can return to fiscal sanity without halting our economic resurgence while continuing to invest in critical priorities.”

According to the sources, Trump will look to secure $5 billion from Congress, plus $3.6 billion from the military construction budget, for the fiscal year 2020. The request is coming on top of the $8.1 billion Trump already has access to, which includes money he’s trying to shift from military accounts after declaring a national emergency.

Will the GOP stand strong on the border barrier this time, or get squishy? And what will Democrats attempt to do with the budget for their pet beliefs? How much will they add? Will Democrats realize that their intransigence on the border will give Trump tons of material to bludgeon them with?

Extinction Rebellion Throws Fake Blood In Streets Of London For ‘Climate Change’ Or Something

(UK Independent) An estimated 400 demonstrators from the groups Extinction Rebellion and Christian Climate Action staged the protest, simulating a “sea of blood”.

They said pouring the liquid, which they dubbed “the Blood of our Children”, symbolised the “gravity” of the ecology and climate emergency.

The groups said they were prepared to risk arrest as part of a mass civil disobedience movement to force those in power to act. (snip)

Another activist, Jayne Forbes, said: “There are no words to describe the horrors we risk if we do not make governments act immediately. Every parent, every adult, everyone has a responsibility and duty to take action. That now means breaking the law.”

It apparently means wearing lots of clothes with major fuel miles, as well as smartphones.

On the bright side, the nutters tweeted that “it’s (made of) water, cornflour, vegan food colouring & treacle. and they cleaned it all up afterwards.”

AOC Is Super Excited About People Being Automated Out Of Work

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes we should be excited about automated jobs

Left-wing US politicians have landed at SXSW 2019. A day after sharing her proposal to break up companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon, US Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) expanded on her plans at the event. And she wasn’t the only one from her party here today. On Saturday, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) featured in a session where she notably didn’t talk about Big Tech, but instead focused on the Green New Deal and automation, among other topics including pay inequality and racism.

When asked her thoughts on machines replacing humans in the workplace, Ocasio-Cortez said people should be excited about automated jobs, but they can’t because of bigger, systematic problems. “We should not be haunted by the specter of being automated out of work,” she said. “We should not feel nervous about the toll booth collector not having to collect tolls anymore. We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited by it is because we live in a society where, if you don’t have a job, you are left to die.” Ocasio-Cortez pointed to Bill Gates’ proposed solution of taxing robots 90 percent, which she said really means taxing corporations at that rate.

She added that the government needs to get to a point where it restructures its systems to distribute wealth created by automation, which could come with plenty of benefits. “If we approach solutions to our system and start entertaining ideas like that, then we should be excited about automation,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “What it could potentially mean is more time educating ourselves, more time creating art, more time investing and investigating in the sciences, more time focused on invention, more time going to space, more time enjoying the world that we live in. Because not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage.”

Right, right, let’s ignore all of human history and just change, that should be easy! Essentially, this is a continuation of the pulled line about work. Why would they want this? It would mean even more people are beholden to the government, as the Nanny State would be providing everything for people to live. It’s why Democrats have, for the most part, hated workfare, where people on welfare who can work need to work. Having a job is, for the most part, satisfying. Even if you don’t like the job. You are the one earning the money. But people who are beholden to the government are controlled by the government, and will vote for whomever will keep the gravy train going.

Telling people they should be happy that automation will wipe out their jobs is probably not a winning election platform.

She said that the government needs to welcome forward-thinking ideas: “It should be our mission right now to make sure that all people have health care. Our mission should be that all jobs are paid a dignified living wage. Our mission should be to save our freakin’ planet.”

Says the person who just took a long fossil fueled flight.

If Weather Affects Hiring Now, Wait For Climate Change To Get Worse

It’s never a good idea to take a single data point and extract from it. The latest federal jobs report is an example. Only 20,000 new jobs this month, the smallest number since September 2017, when hurricanes battered the country and a number of its territories, like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Most people won’t be working when winds could lift them up and throw them, their car, and lord knows what else through the air. When floods pick building up from their foundations and carry them away and entire areas are devastated.

February job gains were particularly poor when compared to January’s 311,000. One reason that economists have offered is the difference in weather. January was relatively mild, allowing an unexpected expansion, even as so many were furloughed from the federal government during the shutdown. February, for those who forget too soon, was quite cold for much of the country.

The economy slows as a result and there’s less need of additional workers. Leisure and hospitality was unchanged after adding 154,000 positions total between December and January. In construction last month, jobs fell by 31,000.

Even if February’s numbers don’t make a trend, there is a factor that keeps showing up. Weather. The month broke records for cold and heat and rain and snow. The hurricanes in 2017 were so bad, decimated areas still haven’t seen a full recovery and probably won’t for years.

That’s right, he’s actually blaming ‘climate change’ for all the cold and snow in February for the weak jobs report. It really is a cult.

The phenomenon has already begun to drive up homelessness and will likely cause the biggest gentrification wave since large tribes swept across continents.

No matter the question, the CoC always links it to their narrow dogma.

Democrats Vote In Favor Of Illegal Aliens Voting

It’s laughably called the For The People Act, and bears as much to being for the people as The Patient Protect and Affordable Care Act was to patient protect and affordable care. Republicans have dubbed it the “Democrat Politician Protection Act.” There’s a lot of issues with it, read more here. And here’s one more issue

(WASHINGTON EXAMINER) – House Democrats voted Friday to defend localities that allow illegal immigrants to vote in their elections, turning back a GOP attempt to discourage the practice.

The vote marks a stunning reversal from just six months ago, when the chamber — then under GOP control — voted to decry illegal immigrant voting.

“We are prepared to open up the political process and let all of the people come in,” Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and hero of the civil rights movement, told colleagues as he led opposition to the GOP measure.

The 228-197 vote came as part of a broader debate on Democrats’ major legislative priority this year, HR 1, the “For the People Act,” which includes historic expansions of voter registration and access, as well as a major rewrite of campaign finance laws.

The measure would have had no practical effect even if it had passed. Illegal immigrants — and indeed noncitizens as a whole — are not legally able to participate in federal elections.

But Republicans had hoped to send a message to localities such as San Francisco, where noncitizens are now allowed to vote in school board elections.

“It sounds like I’m making it up. What kind of government would cancel the vote of its own citizens, and replace it with noncitizens?” said Rep. Dan Crenshaw, Texas Republican.

Expect Democrats to push for illegal aliens and non-citizens to be able to vote in federal elections soon.

Manchin, Murkowski Say We Need To Act Responsibly On Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

It’s time to act on climate change — responsibly

The two of us have more in common than might meet the eye. We come from different parties, but we are both avid outdoorsmen and represent states that take great pride in the resources we provide to the nation and to friends and allies around the world. Alaska and West Virginia know that resource development and environmental stewardship must move in tandem, which is why we are committed to putting forward bipartisan solutions to help address climate change.

There is no question that climate change is real or that human activities are driving much of it. We are seeing the impacts in our home states. Scientists tell us that the Arctic is warming at twice the rate of the rest of the world. Rising temperatures and diminishing sea ice on Alaska’s shores are affecting our fisheries and forcing some remote communities to seek partial or total relocation. In summer 2016, West Virginia experienced unprecedented flooding that killed 23 residents and inflicted tremendous damage across the state.

None of those prove anthropogenic causation.

Congress is in the middle of a debate about the appropriate way to tackle climate change. This is often portrayed as an issue with just two sides — those who support drastic, unattainable measures to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and those who want to do nothing. We believe the time for sensationalism is over. And we are seeking ideas that will bring people together, rather than drive them apart.

Well, first you have to prove that mankind is mostly/solely causing the minor rise in temperatures.

On the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, we are working together to find pragmatic policies that can draw strong and enduring support. In our hearings this year, we have heard from a range of experts who are helping us to gather facts that shape these efforts.

Just this week, we held a hearing focused on climate change and the electricity sector. We heard that utilities are pursuing cleaner energy technologies and integrating them into their networks. These changes to the generation mix reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 28 percent between 2005 and 2017 and lowered costs to consumers.

Yet, our witnesses also agreed that to effectively mitigate the impacts of climate change, we must do more to pursue low- and zero-carbon technologies that will continue to lower emissions.

In other words, they want Congress to force you to reduce your carbon footprint.

Anyhow, there’s a few more paragraphs, ending with

American ingenuity has solved many of the great challenges of our time and is key to addressing climate change. If the United States is going to lead by example, we must continue to lead the world in the development of new and improved technologies. On the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, we agree it is time to act. And that is why we will work to find responsible solutions worthy of West Virginians, Alaskans and all Americans.

Did anyone see a plan? Or is it simply “well, we’ll let you know what laws we want to jam down your throats”? Joe’s party is the party of climate action extremism. Lisa is just Lisa. Those who offer lofty words but keep their ideas to themselves are as dangerous as those who release nutty plans like the Green New Deal.
