Snowflakes Want John Wayne’s Name Taken Off Airport Over 1971 Interview

This is seriously where the Perpetually Offended Left is going. There was already a freakout over the 1971 interview, and now Michael Hiltzik is melting down in the LA Times

It’s time to take John Wayne’s name off the Orange County airport

Most people familiar with the life story of John Wayne are aware that the late movie star was a dyed-in-the-wool right-winger — after all, he was still making a movie glorifying America’s conduct of the Vietnam War (“The Green Berets,” 1968) well after the country had begun to get sick of the conflict.

But the resurrection of a 1971 interview Wayne gave to Playboy magazine has underscored the sheer crudeness of the actor’s feelings about gay people, black people, Native Americans, young people and liberals.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s impossible or immoral to enjoy Westerns and war movies starring John Wayne; that’s a personal choice. But it certainly undermines any justification for his name and image to adorn a civic facility. (snip)

Wayne’s May 1971 Playboy interview has been unearthed before, notably in 2016 when his daughter Aissa endorsed Donald Trump for president. But it may well resonate more today, when iconic representations tied to racism, such as statues of Confederate war heroes, are being evicted from public spaces.

So, this is really all about Trump Derangement Syndrome, to pair with the utter intolerance of thought.

So let’s take a gander at some of John Wayne’s opinions, circa 1971. A typescript of the Playboy interview, which I link to here, has been circulating widely and is the source of the quotes, but I validated it against facsimile pages from the original Playboy edition. Magazine writer Richard Warren Lewis conducted the interview at Wayne’s home in Newport Beach.

Now, you can go read the material, but, remember, this was 1971. Heck, I was 4 at the time. It was a very different time, and mainstream thoughts were much different. One where they weren’t attempting to get rid of men being men.

Interestingly, no one from the Left is calling for the removal of Robert “KKK” Byrd’s name from the dozens of things that bear his name.

NY Times Lets The Cat Out Of The Bag On How Costly The Green New Deal Would Be

President Trump derided the Green New Deal as a “high school term paper that got a low mark.” Congressional Republicans mocked it as “zany.” Even Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic House speaker, called the proposal a “green dream,” and some of the party’s 2020 candidates are starting to describe it as merely aspirational.

Yet, despite that disdain, the goals of the far-reaching plan to tackle climate change and economic inequality are within the realm of technological possibility, several energy experts and economists said in recent interviews.

Getting there will cost trillions of dollars, most agreed, and require expansive new taxes and federal programs. It certainly could not be accomplished within the 10-year time frame that supporters say is necessary, according to these experts.

The Green New Deal, in other words, is an exciting idea for many liberals and an enticing political target for conservatives. But, most of all, it is an extraordinarily complicated series of trade-offs that could be realized, experts say, with extensive sacrifices that people are only starting to understand. (snip)

Replacing [fossil fuels] with sources that do not emit greenhouse gasses will cost trillions of dollars; potentially increase energy costs for millions of families; and entail federal intervention in swaths of the economy, like transportation, where there is already a mixed record of government success. Republican critics gleefully noted last week that California’s Democratic governor scaled back a state-owned bullet train linking San Francisco and Los Angeles because of costs. (snip)

The plan does not include a cost estimate, though it presumably would require massive new government spending and disrupt existing jobs and industries.

So, unsustainable levels of spending, which will necessitate an enormous increase in taxes, coupled with a massive increase in the size of Government, with citizens losing huge amounts of liberty, not too mention the government taking over huge amounts of the economy. Which would cause massive economic trouble, including job losses, which will supposedly be replaced by new jobs. Or the whole “government will pay you if you don’t want to work thing.”

But environmental activists said the details and hurdles are less important than the broad ambition of the plan, which proposes a national mobilization with the scale and urgency of the original New Deal.

Wishful thinking is not a plan. You may be able to get away with not having a plan when you go shopping, but having nothing more that some feelings for the GND, which would be incredibly more intrusive than Obamacare is a recipe for a disaster. Well, it’s a recipe even before you get to thinking about “how will they do this?”

Bummer: Fear Of ICE Causing School Kids To Live In Fear

They should be living in fear. They are breaking federal law by being unlawfully present in the United States

ICE raids put undocumented students in ‘fear,’ activists say. They’re asking Wake schools for help.

Community activists, including some teachers, are urging the Wake County school system to do more to reassure families of undocumented students who are worried about increased ICE arrests of illegal immigrants.

Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained more than 200 people this month across the state who are believed to be living in the country illegally. Several activists urged the Wake County school board on Tuesday to pass a resolution declaring schools as safe zones for undocumented students and to make it harder for ICE agents to get information from schools.

“We want you to assure our immigrant families that schools are a safe place and a sanctuary for them,” said Fernando Martinez, an organizer for the Education Justice Alliance, a group that advocates for minority students. “Not even their apartments or their houses are any longer safe for them. ICE is terrorizing our communities, literally terrorizing our communities.”

Well, that’s a shame. Too bad. If they want to blame someone, blame the parents who brought them to the nation illegally/overstayed visas. If the parent was a petty thief, low level drug dealer, or some other criminal, would we be worried about the kids “living in fear”? No, because we would say this is the fault of the parent.

In 1982, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that students are guaranteed the right to attend public schools regardless of their immigration status. But undocumented students and their family members can still be deported.

The Triangle area (which includes Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and all the surrounding municipalities) has seen tremendous growth over the decades, with so many people moving in and bringing their kids that schools are in constant flux. New ones are being built quickly, kids are constantly shifted around. How much money are we wasting on the children of illegal aliens that would be better spent on U.S. citizens? How many are taking up school slots that should go to citizens? How many kids end up being bused across the county because a seat is taken by an illegal?

Under ICE policy, schools are considered to be “sensitive locations,” where arrests or interviews are generally not made.

So, the entire “advocacy” thing is a farce, since ICE doesn’t go into schools. And they weren’t going to go into schools to detain children in the first place.

In a news conference this month, ICE Atlanta Field Office Director Sean Gallagher called ICE actions the “new normal,” The News & Observer previously reported.

“This is the direct conclusion of dangerous policies of not cooperating with ICE,” Gallagher said at the news conference. “This forces my officers to go out onto the street to conduct more enforcement.”

You reap what you sow, Open Borders advocates.

“What we’re experiencing isn’t a just and safe environment for all people,” Johnson-Hostler said. “The mayors who signed on to stand in solidarity against the ICE raids said it best. ‘Fear and terror harm everyone.’

“I think regardless of where people stand or what they believe, it’s important that we recognize that every singe person is being impacted.”

First, she’s actually claiming to be harmed herself, along with other parents and kids who are not illegals, because the illegals are living in fear. Beyond stupid. She’s making herself and others into Victims.

Second, who cares? If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. Illegals made their choice, and any fear is on themselves.

Bummer: Trump May Use ‘Climate Change’ Funds For Wall

If true, this would be hilariously ironic, since all the Warmists are running around yammering about ‘climate change’ being a national emergency, not protecting the U.S. southern border

Trump may use climate change funds to build his wall

As you may have heard, Trump did not get Mexico to pay for a border wall and declared a state of national emergency. Now he wants to use our tax dollars to build his wall. $3.6 billion is to come out of a military construction account that was supposed to fund a variety of projects, including helping installations (like military bases) deal with rising sea levels.

The military wants to raise naval docks so rising seawater doesn’t damage electrical systems, build sea walls and improve wildfire protection, like the pesky treehuggers they are.

Do I need to point out the irony here? The government claims climate change doesn’t exist while building infrastructure to deal with it.

“Acknowledging climate change as a problem, particularly with infrastructure, is widely accepted,” said John Conger, a former Department of Defense deputy comptroller.

Indeed, the military doesn’t seem to take climate denial seriously.

Of course, what we have here is the notion that the climate has gotten warmer, and that the seas have risen. Not a lot, certainly much less than expected during a Holocene warm period, but, have risen. But, that’s not proof of anthropogenic causation. Just because something is happening doesn’t necessarily explain why it is happening. The most likely explanation is the same one for billions of years: nature. Add some effects like land use and the urban heat island effect into the mix, along with the release of greenhouse gases, plus bad science which manufactures bad data to prop up the Cult of Climastrology, and you have a “crisis”.

Regardless, it is hilarious that they find a way to link ‘climate change’ with building the wall.

AOC Explains Her Farting Cows Thing Or Something

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the gift that keeps on giving. I still have trot out my personal conspiracy theory that she’s a GOP plant designed to make Democrats look like the uber-far left Modern Socialists (meaning they aren’t just wanting all the economic policies of Socialism, but the massive, giant, controlling powers over our personal lives, which is actually 100% against the Socialist political model) they really are. To make them look nuts. To look bad. Because no federally elected Rep could be this bad, right? Sure, there are nuts like Maxine Waters, but, that’s just derangement. This is just stupidity

On premiere of ‘Desus & Mero’ show, Ocasio-Cortez explains ‘farting cows’ reference in ‘Green New Deal’

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., defended the Green New Deal after the recent rollout of the New York Democrat’s policy proposal got a lot of attention over “farting cows.”

In an appearance Thursday night on the premiere of Showtime’s late-night “Desus & Mero”show, the comedy pair hosts of the program asked the freshman congresswoman why she thought the initial reaction focused on “cow farts.”

“In the deal, what we talk about, and it’s true, is that we need to take a look at factory farming, you know? Period. It’s wild,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And so it’s not to say you get rid of agriculture, it’s not to say we’re gonna force everybody to go vegan or anything crazy like that. But it’s to say, ‘Listen, we gotta address factory farming. Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Like, let’s keep it real.”

It’s a shame they don’t have the audio of this, because it certainly sounds as stupid as it looks, if we go be some of the available video whining about twitter trolls being “heavy” and sounding like a 9th grader.

Also, she’s admitting that the farting cows thing was meant to be in the GND resolution. It was yanked out after being laughed at, of course.

“But we have to take a look at everything,” Ocasio-Cortez continued, “and what we need to realize about climate change is about every choice that we make in our lives, you know?”

And therein lies the problem with the Cult of Climastrology and Modern Socialism: they want the Government involved in everything. I’d say “right now it’s farting cows. Next week it could be your use of natural gas in your house and the energy efficiency of your home”, but, they’re already coming after that.

Also on Thursday’s show, the Democratic socialist also defended her call for a 70 percent marginal tax rate on incomes over $10 million, which she said represented a “pretty good year.”

“It really comes down to the question of, ‘Isn’t $10 million enough?’ Like, when does it stop?” she asked. “At what point is it amoral that we’re building Jeff Bezos a helipad when we have the most amount of homeless people in New York City?”

Imagine how much all the taxes paid by Amazon would have helped with decreasing homelessness in NYC. Imagine what all those jobs would have meant. Good job killing that off, AOC.

Excitable Adam Schiff Wants Republicans To Speak Out Against Trump

Schiff urges GOP colleagues to share private concerns about Trump publicly

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) urged his GOP colleagues to state their private concerns about President Trump publicly in a Washington Post op-ed Thursday.

“To my Republican colleagues: When the president attacked the independence of the Justice Department by intervening in a case in which he is implicated, you did not speak out,” Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wrote. “When he attacked the press as the enemy of the people, you again were silent. When he targeted the judiciary, labeling judges and decisions he didn’t like as illegitimate, we heard not a word. And now he comes for Congress, the first branch of government, seeking to strip it of its greatest power, that of the purse.”

“Many of you have acknowledged your deep misgivings about the president in quiet conversations over the past two years. You have bemoaned his lack of decency, character and integrity. You have deplored his fundamental inability to tell the truth. But for reasons that are all too easy to comprehend, you have chosen to keep your misgivings and your rising alarm private.”

“That must end. The time for silent disagreement is over. You must speak out.”

Is Excitable Adam changing course because the Mueller report is coming and it will most likely not give him, and the rest of the Democrats and #NeverTrump useful idiots, the results they want? It is because Adam thinks his opinions are facts? Adam wasn’t concerned in the least when Obama was spending money never allocated, such as with DACA and DAPA, nor inventing rules like the Waters of the U.S. and Clean Power Plan.

It’s long past time for Adam to put up or shut up: show us some evidence of actual legal wrongdoing. We know Trump isn’t always the best of character. That’s pretty much every politician: they just like to hide it better. Trump resonates because he’s real, not a fake poser. All of us know we have our own character defects. But, we don’t care about that stuff, we care that he gets things done. Which he is. Adam doesn’t like that.

British Warmists Want To Ban All New Homes From Using Natural Gas

Climate change: Ban gas grid for new homes ‘in six years

New homes should be banned from connecting to the gas grid within six years to tackle climate change, UK government advisers say.

They want new-build homes in the countryside to be warmed by heat pumps – and cooking done on induction hobs, rather than using gas boilers and hobs.

In cities, new housing estates and flats should be kept warm by networks of hot water, says the report.

The water could be heated by waste heat from industry.

An alternative approach is to use heat pumps, which draw warmth from the sea or lakes; or burn gas from waste.

The report, from the independent Committee on Climate Change, recommends these changes are made to new homes at first because it’s much more economical that way. They say it costs £4,800 to install low-carbon heating in a new home, but £26,300 in an existing house.

Or, they could use natural gas, and it would be a lot less expensive, instead of relying on these other methods, which you can bet aren’t being used in the homes of these UK gov’t advisors.

What’s more, these systems will only work if homes are insulated to the highest standards so they need little heating.

This will mean that homeowners will see the cost of new construction skyrocket, as will energy bills, putting these homes out of the price of many people.

The committee’s spokesperson Prof Julia King told us: “This generation of home-owners is cheating its children by leaving homes which are completely inadequate for an age of climate change.

“They’re too cold in winter and increasingly, as the climate continues to warm, they are going to become too hot in the summer.”

So, greenhouse gases are making it too cold? Weirdos. Nutjobs.

“The reason carbon emissions are rising again in homes is the decision by the Cameron government to slash funding for home energy efficiency,” Ed Matthew, from the climate think tank E3G, told the BBC.

Is this really the government’s job? Or is it just another way to have more control over people’s lives?
