Prozac Diaries: When They Just Can’t Move On. Updated

A second Prozac Diary of the day (granted, I could probably spend all day posting these just by doing quick searches at liberal websites), this one from the reality based community at the Democratic Underground

Corrections: In Which The NYT Perpetuates the Myth It Created – That George Bush Won Florida in 2000
2000 Elections
| Media | New York Times
by Larry Beinhart | May 27, 2008 – 10:18am

“In 2001 painstaking postmortems of the Florida count, one by The New York Times and another by a consortium of newspapers, concluded that Mr. Bush would have come out slightly ahead, even if all the votes counted throughout the state had been retallied.”
— Alessandra Stanley, New York Times, May 23, 2008 in a review of the HBO television movie, Recount

The Smirking Chimp then goes off on a tangent to “prove” that Gore won Florida and Bush stole the election.

No, I am not going to go through the whole thing. We know that liberals are deranged on this subject, and just can’t move on, nor find reality.

Thursday Update and kick the post to Thursday: Through the power if the Interwebz, I read the comment that Smirking Chip writer Larry Beinhart, and promised to re-read his post, which I did. Twice. And, I must say, I jumped the gun and assigned harsher terms and meaning to what was a well written post regarding what appears to be sloppy and eroneous reporting by the NY Times.

Personally, any time I see any of the “Gore won Florida” posts, particularly if I run across them at a place like the DU, I tend to look at them in a very negative light. I should mention that I did, in fact, vote for Gore. I saw him as slightly better then Bush, as I agreed with Al on his environmental stances (at least at that time,) and did not care for this “compassionate conservatism” malarkey (still don’t.)

That said, Mr. Beinhart’s post is well thought out and reasoned, based on information from not only the 2001 NY Times article, but certainly other sources. It is not meant to be a “Bush stole Florida” story. Instead, it takes the Times to task.

I still believe Bush won the election by the rules. But, I apologize to Mr. Beinhart for going off the rails myself, without thinking about the post rationally, seeing it through rose colored glasses. I try to stay to my own rule of being civil to those who deserve it. The anonymity of the Internet is not a cover. I failed in this case. I jumped the gun, and became what I generally go off on people for doing, namely, going off half cocked.

BTW, I want to mention his books, Fog Facts, Wag The Dog, and The Librarian. Loved the movie Wag The Dog, and the other two look excellent. Most of the Wake County Library branches have The Librarian, which I will check out this weekend.
