Prozac Diaries: When They Just Can’t Move On. Updated

A second Prozac Diary of the day (granted, I could probably spend all day posting these just by doing quick searches at liberal websites), this one from the reality based community at the Democratic Underground

Corrections: In Which The NYT Perpetuates the Myth It Created – That George Bush Won Florida in 2000
2000 Elections
| Media | New York Times
by Larry Beinhart | May 27, 2008 – 10:18am

“In 2001 painstaking postmortems of the Florida count, one by The New York Times and another by a consortium of newspapers, concluded that Mr. Bush would have come out slightly ahead, even if all the votes counted throughout the state had been retallied.”
— Alessandra Stanley, New York Times, May 23, 2008 in a review of the HBO television movie, Recount

The Smirking Chimp then goes off on a tangent to “prove” that Gore won Florida and Bush stole the election.

No, I am not going to go through the whole thing. We know that liberals are deranged on this subject, and just can’t move on, nor find reality.

Thursday Update and kick the post to Thursday: Through the power if the Interwebz, I read the comment that Smirking Chip writer Larry Beinhart, and promised to re-read his post, which I did. Twice. And, I must say, I jumped the gun and assigned harsher terms and meaning to what was a well written post regarding what appears to be sloppy and eroneous reporting by the NY Times.

Personally, any time I see any of the “Gore won Florida” posts, particularly if I run across them at a place like the DU, I tend to look at them in a very negative light. I should mention that I did, in fact, vote for Gore. I saw him as slightly better then Bush, as I agreed with Al on his environmental stances (at least at that time,) and did not care for this “compassionate conservatism” malarkey (still don’t.)

That said, Mr. Beinhart’s post is well thought out and reasoned, based on information from not only the 2001 NY Times article, but certainly other sources. It is not meant to be a “Bush stole Florida” story. Instead, it takes the Times to task.

I still believe Bush won the election by the rules. But, I apologize to Mr. Beinhart for going off the rails myself, without thinking about the post rationally, seeing it through rose colored glasses. I try to stay to my own rule of being civil to those who deserve it. The anonymity of the Internet is not a cover. I failed in this case. I jumped the gun, and became what I generally go off on people for doing, namely, going off half cocked.

BTW, I want to mention his books, Fog Facts, Wag The Dog, and The Librarian. Loved the movie Wag The Dog, and the other two look excellent. Most of the Wake County Library branches have The Librarian, which I will check out this weekend.

W gained MORE votes in December 2000 than on Election Day! Remind Socialist Ryan and the Sorelosermen that Florida’s DNC threw our US Military Absentee Ballots in the TRASH in 2000! Hmmmmmm? I wonder why Teach?
Poor Goreons couldn’t carry Tennessee (his home state) or Bubba’s Arkansas either? BUSH – 271 Electoral Votes / 30 Red States
GORE – 266 and 20 Blue States of CCCP!

Generally speaking, I’m delighted when anyone refers to my work, positively or negatively, but this is silly. The point of the article was that the TV reviewer got two facts wrong in the quoted sentence. That the NY Times did its own recount and that it showed that Bush would have come out ahead.
The consortium recount showed that Gore got more votes than Bush.

Then you said the Smirking Chimp “went off on a tangent …”
Also wrong. Smirky just continued to quote the rest of the article.

Please don’t take this as a complaint. I don’t expect you to stop pulling things out of context so they appear to say the opposite of what they were intended to say or to stop getting the facts wrong.
But I do have a complaint. At the end of my articles I always list some of my books, Wag the Dog, The Librarian, Fog Facts – Searching for Truth in the Land of Spin, and Salvation Boulevard coming out in September.
You left those off. That did disappoint me. They’re lively and entertaining and you should help me inform more people about them.
    Thank you;
    Larry Beinhart

  3. Well, I’ll tell you what, let me reread it, Larry, and see if I was wrong in my interpretation. I will check those books out.

    BTW, love your site.

Well, the latest GOPeer crybaby rag fest is playing out, invective hurled plotz-like against imagined sprites and evil conspiracies lurking deep within their under utilized gray matter, but what does it matter? No late night crybaby calls to Dr. Rove, Maharishi Knucklehead, or any number of network bend-over buddies will clear the air from both the fetid stink of their pinhead invective nor the residual stank as a result of eight years of Boosh blunder and criminality. How to avoid four more years of the stupid progeny blunder courtesy of the man with the woman’s head and the curse of Nazi Boosh? No compromise, that’s what it takes. And what it takes is a piss, and all will behold that long, deep sound running down the back side of your local Repug retard (just like the country). As much as any sane thinking person wants to run and hide, it probably bellwethers better for all that we confront further repulsive and immature hormonal assaults that await any 22% rube or dupe stupid enough to buy the GOPeer magic beans or drink the Repug Kool-aid hence. Then we can rest assured, repose in idyllic compassion, apply topper, maliciously dump trash in Crawford, trim the Wax Leaf Privet, program the sprinklers, sprinkle on the nearest remaining conservative, and help the stubborn 22% don the ass hat on Election day. What says you?

Okay, you’re probably shaking your head, unable to comprehend words and ideas not regularly available in any recent copy of “Tom and Jerry”, so here’s the problem with the current occupant:

Unsuitable rage or difficulty controlling anger, i.e., repeated displays of annoyance, unvarying resentment, recurring physical battle with real or imagined enemies or “do-badders”.

Persistent “thoughts” of purposelessness or insignificance.

A prototype of unbalanced and extreme interpersonal interaction differentiated by alternating betwixt boundaries of glorification and deflation.

Individuality disorder: distinctly and doggedly unsound self-worth or sense of character.

Fleeting pressure related paranoid idea formation or relentless dissociative warning signs.

Sudden urges in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging, i.e., promiscuous sex(not likely), eating disorders(crow), binge eating(Dik Chaney’s B.S.), substance abuse(booze/coke), personal sexual abuse(checked out Laura lately?), reckless driving(‘nuff said), etc..

Frequent desperate actions, gesticulations, threats, or self-mutilating conduct such as cutting, interfering with curing of scars(the country’s), or picking at oneself.

Frantic laboring to circumvent authentic or imagined desertion.

Emotional volatility owing to marked reactivity of disposition, i.e., severe episodic dysphasia(duh), petulance(any time he speaks), or angst, as a rule lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days.

Hey, I’m only here to help….

  5. You feel better now, Carl?

Teach is the man! Our US Military Absentee Ballots in 2000 were trashed by the Sorelosermen’s 200 legal eagles…FACT! ‘Flor i duh’ has TWO time zones and the Clintonistas and Goreons purposely called Florida EARLY so the west coast Floridians would stop voting – the US MILITARY BASES are on the WEST COAST in CST… DECEMBER 14, 2000 the U.S. Supremes stopped the madness and W won Florida 271-266 by 534 votes! Al Gore FAILED to carry his HOME state of Tennessee and Bubba’s ARKANSAS…. A win in EITHER state would have given the election to the Sorelosermen and Florida’s 25 electoral votes wouldn’t have mattered….. These are FACTS left-wingbats and JUSTICE prevailed! By the way, W’s defense team shredded the Goreons legal eagles and some of W’s best lawyers were Southern Democrats!!! Now that’s Southern Fried Finger Licking Good FACTS… W took the popular vote in 2004: 61 million to Kerry’s 59 million and 31 RED STATES to Kerry’s 19! END OF STORY and BALLGAME OVER!

Mr. Teach. What is a supposed ‘democratic strategist’ on cable tv? Impeached President Clinton is the Democrats only re-elected two-term president since World War II… FDR in 1944 (fourth term)! That is a very very very long time ago. 1944? I wonder why Teach? These paid demo strats are ripping off their own party. And the highly educated elites don’t realize this truth? And Hillary & Obama are the best they can come up with?
    OBAMA IN 2008 & OSAMA IN 2009?
