Governor Of State With Massive Firearms Restrictions Asks “What The Hell Is Wrong With Us?”

There’s nothing wrong with me. I’m not using my firearms to go on a rampage. How about you?

Following San Jose mass shooting, California Gov. Gavin Newsom asks: ‘What the hell is wrong with us?’

In the wake of Wednesday’s deadly shooting at a light-rail yard in San Jose, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) again called for stricter gun control policies, asking, “What the hell is going on in the United States of America? What the hell is wrong with us?”

Authorities say a gunman opened fire at the Valley Transportation Authority building during a shift change on Wednesday morning, killing eight and injuring several others; the shooter died by suicide. This was one of the deadliest gun incidents to ever happen in Northern California, Politico reports.

“When are we going to come to grips with this?” Newsom asked during a news conference. “When are we going to put down our arms, literally and figuratively, our politics, the stale rhetoric, finger-pointing, all the hand-wringing, consternation that produces nothing except more fury and frustration, more scenes like this repeated over and over and over again.” He said it is time to “take a little damn responsibility, all of us,” and “move beyond the platitudes and usual rhetoric” that come after a mass shooting.

I have zero responsibility. I don’t know the shooter, I didn’t see him getting crazy, I didn’t sell him the gun. California has some of the strictest laws on firearms in the country, and has most of everything that the gun grabbers want. The next step is simply taking guns away, the “Australian solution.” What do we know about the gunman?

The gunman has been identified as Samuel James Cassidy, 57, a longtime resident of San Jose. Cassidy had worked for the Valley Transportation Authority for about 20 years, initially as a mechanic and then more recently as a substation maintainer. Before joining the transit agency, he was employed as a mechanic at a San Jose Mazda dealership.

Although the FBI and local authorities continue to dig into his background, his ex-wife, neighbors and court records paint a picture of a man who often exhibited violent and aggressive behavior and had complained about being mistreated at work. In a 2009 court filing, an ex-girlfriend of his accused Cassidy of rape, sexual assault and “enraged” mood swings fueled by alcohol.

Yet, California did not ban him from owning firearms. And “The three guns were legally obtained and registered, FBI San Francisco special agent in charge Craig Fair told CNN.”

The gunman was armed with three semi-automatic handguns and 32 high-capacity magazines, the Sheriff’s Office said Thursday afternoon. The department had initially reported Thursday morning that the gunman had 11 pistol magazines each holding 12 rounds, making them illegal high-capacity magazines in California, which mandates 10-round limits under state law that is being challenged in court.

Wait, a criminal didn’t follow the law? He was questioned in 2016 by Customs and Border Protection upon returning from the Philippines about workplace hatred.” And he had books about terrorism and fear and manifestos. He also apparently had the precursors to bombs, which started a fire at his house. It’s presumed he intended to set a bomb off after going on his murder spree.

So, a lunatic with anger issues, yet, we’re supposed to Blame all gun owners. At least they can’t blame the scary assault rifles, eh?

New York has the Sullivan law that removed firearms from the average person, or at least made it very difficult to obtain. Sullivan was a political creature at the time, but before he was one of the number one gang bosses. So, a criminal in the guise of a politician (I know there is little difference) removed guns from citizens making them more vulnerable to crime.

David aren’t the states with the most restrictive gun laws ALSO the states with the lowest death rates by gun?
Police in states with high gun ownership are 3 times more likely to be shot than in states with low gun ownership (from a study done by Harvard School of Public Health)

  2. Hairy says:

But of course the states with the highest per capita gun deaths are ALL ruby red
CA per capita gun deaths are 1/2 of those of NC and 1/3 that of Wyoming
Do you think other states might benefit from gun restrictions like CA ?
There is a direct correlation between gun death rates and gun ownership rates, fewer guns equals fewer deaths

Puppy killer can’t provide any citations showing g more guns make people safer can he ?
What is your reply ? That guns make it easier to commit suicide? And that is a good thing?
Of course it is true that red states have a much higher rate of suicide as well as a lower overall life expectancy, poorest, et cetera

Apparently Johnnie, retard that he is, cannot differentiate between total number of deaths versus rates per population.
California is either 2nd or 3rd in the number of deaths by firearms compared to other states.
In 2019, California lead all other states in mass shootings.
These are verifiable facts that anyone can look up.

There is no direct correlation between gun ownership and increased deaths.

There is a benefit to gun ownership as a deterrent, however:

The National Academies of Science found:

“Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence …. Almost all national survey estimates … of annual uses range from about 500,000 to more than 3 million …in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008. … Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was “used” by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

A CDC study undertaken by the Obama Administration found the same thing – that gun ownership saves lives and acts as a deterrent.

Hairy hates facts, freedoms, and the rights of people because all the left has is hate.

          • Elwood P. Dowd says:

There are no reliable estimates of the number of Defensive Gun Usage events in the US.

The range given is 60,000 to 4.5 million based of surveys of gun owners. Curiously, the number of bad guys reportedly wounded by good guys in these surveys far exceeds confirmed reports of gunshot injuries by hospitals or Drs offices.

The US Academy of Sciences did not produce their own estimate, they repeated what has been quoted in the literature.

These unconfirmed and unconfirmable figures are repeated by those excusing firearms-related death and injuries in the US.

gitarcarver loves exaggerations, unconfirmed reports and misinterpreting results because all the right has is dishonesty.

    John,
You are playing fast and loose with stats yet don’t have a single citation. Ordinarily I don’t feel web related citations are worth a thing but in your case it is necessary as you are wrong the majority of time.

Now, consider that if you have break in, what is better, the police that are 10 minutes away at best or a gun that is right at hand. Even an idiot like yourself can understand that. Now, Australia outlawed guns and self defense and their crime went out the roof before they stopped or modified the reporting. Guns have a prominent role in crime prevention. Working in the ER I can assure you we are in a war every day that you never hear of. You scoffed at my referral to New Orleans as being as dangerous as a war zone. It only shows your lack of knowledge which we call ignorance or stupidity which is an inability to learn.

  4. david7134 says:

    John,
I looked up the stats and guess what. If you subtract out our special population, then gun deaths drop significantly. Instead of impeding the rights of everyone, let’s just keep blacks from having gun ownership then you can be content and safe.

  5. 71Grad says:

David: I hope that you’re speaking tongue in cheek. Race has nothing to do with it. I worked with many black police officers who carried/owned guns and none of them wanted to shoot anyone. Better suggestion. Enforce the law. Build bigger and more prisons in out of the way places like northern Alaska. Stop whining about prison reform. Made it a place that they don’t want to go back to and stop paroling mental cases.

    • david7134 says:

      71,
What do black cops have to do with anything? Look at the numbers. They tell the whole story. Blacks as a population have a very violent tendency. Now, idiots like jeff and john think that eliminating guns will solve all problems. But if you say, we have a black problem. They preform poorly in school, they are excessively violent, etc. Then you can start to remedy the problem. John loves to quote very selective stats. But he does not explore the issue. We do not have to give up rights when a small portion of our population can not get their act together. There is no such think a systemic racism, no such thing as residual issues of slavery, no such thing as BLM. So, stop the bullshit and address the problem. OH, and I have worked with black doctors, and they are true to what you get with affirmative action.

      • Elwood P. Dowd says:

        doogie hoser,

        So what is your solution?

Actually, only a fool would claim that eliminating all guns wouldn’t reduce gun deaths. Of course it would!

But how to solve your “black” problem? Deport all Black Americans? Imprison them? Have cops shoot them?

  6. Elwood P. Dowd says:

It sounds as if the regulation of guns is not strict enough if a murderous lunatic is allowed easy access to guns. We fully understand that 2nd Amendment fetishists feel that ANY restriction on gun ownership is unconstitutional after all:

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Dead kids, dead coworkers other dead innocents are a small price to pay for our freedoms!!
