Cartoonist Who Drew Anti-Semitic Graphic For NY Times Blames “Jewish Propaganda”

Go figure

Good of CNN, usually unhinged Brian Stetler, and the others to offer this

Reporters in The New York Times (NYT) newsroom could hear the protesters outside on Monday. “Shame on you!” they shouted. Some held signs that accused the newspaper of being anti-Semitic. Others waved American and Israeli flags.

The demonstrators packed Eighth Avenue in New York City in response to a recent cartoon that was baldly anti-Semitic. The image appeared in international editions of The Times last Thursday. It called to mind “a very dark time in Jewish history,” lawyer Alan Dershowitz said at the protest. “I ask myself, how could it have happened?”

That’s what staffers at The Times wanted to know too. In interviews this week, 16 Times staffers described a short-staffed international publication; an opinion section prone to self-inflicted wounds; and an ongoing debate about the newspaper’s biases and blind spots. (snip)

“I don’t think anyone in our office believes for one second there is an issue with institutionalized anti-semitism at the NYT,” one staffer in an international bureau said. “But as with all newsrooms that have gone through radical restructuring in recent years, that so many checks and balances have been removed and that this could go up without being seen by a second pair of eyes makes reporters and editors alike concerned.”

Yes, the checks and balances that would keep anti-Semites from working for the NY Times, especially the international edition, what with the rising Jew hatred in the mid-East and Europe.

Portuguese artist António Moreira Antunes has been drawing political cartoons for 45 years. He recently decided to take on the relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and recently re-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. (sadly, the next quote is way, way, way down in the article)

In an interview with CNN, conducted in Portuguese, Antunes said he was surprised by the outrage. He said he has the “utmost respect” for the Jewish peoples’ past, but said that doesn’t mean they can be “above criticism.”

He claimed that anti-Semitism charges are a misunderstanding “made through the Jewish propaganda machine, which is, anytime there’s criticism it’s because there’s someone anti-Semitic on the other side, and that’s not the case.”

He blamed right-wing figures: “The Jewish right doesn’t want to be criticized, and therefore, when criticized they say ‘We are a persecuted people, we suffered a lot… this is anti-Semitism.'”

So, he’s totally learned from this incident. The casualness of anti-Semitism on the political left is disturbing. And mainstream.

  1. Mangoldielocks says:

“On Tuesday, April 30, Poynter posted a list of 515 ‘unreliable’ news websites, built from pre-existing databases compiled by journalists, fact-checkers and researchers around the country. Our aim was to provide a useful tool for readers to gauge the legitimacy of the information they were consuming,” the statement read.

Guess who the unreliable news websites consisted of? YEAH.. CONSERVATIVES. Unfortunately they listed several mainstream outlets that do real journalism Including the Washington Examiner and Free Beacon. Who put the list together. One woman with help from the southern poverty law center.

AGAIN…the left shows they are AUTHORITARIAN…..refusing to listen to other view points.

A VOTE FOR A DEMOCRAT is a vote to have your freedoms restricted. Folks at one time the Democrats actually stood for personal freedom and individual liberty. Today they only pay it lip service while working hard to SQULCH peoples rights with Authoritarianism they fear from the Right.

I guess their plan is to be the first to the finish line.

I also saw that. Included in the pack was Infowars. Infowars deservedly is “unreliable”. They can pretty much be counted on to be wrong about everything. The thing I find interesting is that the Left claim that they are “conservative”. There is nothing conservative about running a profitable entertainment venue whose niche happens to be anti-government conspiracy stories. It is further curious watching other conservative-ish outlets act as if they are expected to defend Infowars. Loons are neither right nor left. No one should feel compelled to defend their right to be loons.

“Folks at one time the Democrats actually stood for personal freedom and individual liberty.”

If being for slavery, Jim Crow, the KKK, lynching, separate but equal, quotas, affirmative action and reparations is considered standing for personal freedom and individual liberty then yeah.

    • Mangoldielocks says:

Don’t forget KYE…when LBJ passed the civil rights act the south LEFT the Democratic party and the party of JIM CROWE, KKK, LYNCHING and so forth became the GOP. It is why the Right has fought its own brand of racism forced on it by the Democrats for decades.

After LBJ signed the civil rights acts the Democrats Won the White house only 4 years out of the next twenty four years because of losing a huge block of democrats to the GOP.

Neither party is blameless or without its own sins.

      SOUTHERN STRATEGY.

In American politics, the Southern strategy was a Republican Party electoral strategy to increase political support among white voters in the South by appealing to racism against African Americans.[1][2][3] As the civil rights movement and dismantling of Jim Crow laws in the 1950s and 1960s visibly deepened existing racial tensions in much of the Southern United States, Republican politicians such as presidential candidate Richard Nixon and Senator Barry Goldwater developed strategies that successfully contributed to the political realignment of many white, conservative voters in the South who had traditionally supported the Democratic Party rather than the Republican Party.[4] It also helped to push the Republican Party much more to the right.[4]

I like dealing with facts not notions Kye. You can hate me for it but the fact is at one time the democrats were the party of liberty and individual freedoms and the southern stragegy was why the democrats have been branding the GOP as racist for decades now. Partially true as you can see from an evaluation of the southern strategy that is not contested by either side.

      • Kye says:

Okay Mangoldielocks let’s get one thing straight: I am not Elwood therefore I do not “hate” you when I disagree with you.

While I am familiar with and understand the Southern Strategy as you laid it out all I was trying to point out is the GOP was and is not racist. It was the old Southern Democrats fleeing from their own party to the GOP that gave the appearance the parties switched beliefs. The Democrats are sill racist dogs. Today they have broadened their racism to include hatred of Christians, Jews, Whites, Asians and heterosexuals. The Democrats have allowed their party to be taken over by sexual perverts, abortionists, communists, socialists, fascists, Mohammadans and basically anyone who hates and wants to destroy America. Hell, now they even want sixteen year old kids and incarcerated murderers, rapists, child molesters and terrorists to vote along with non-Americans. What kind of insanity runs that party?

        • Mangoldielocks says:

Neoliberalism is a libertarian political philosophy[4] and ideology that focuses on the compatibility of support for civil liberties and free markets on the one hand and a concern for social justice and the well-being of the worst-off on the other.

Once again we have democrats running for office who refuse to say they are capitalist. Why? Because of the diverging bases of their party. progressives hate capitalism. NeoLiberals love it and embrace Corporations and wall street. That is why both wings dont talk about capitalism and use racism to hide their own racism. Neoliberals are bleeding hearts. Its actually part of their definition. Progressives are communists. There is no bleeding heart involved here. They are full blown Authoritarian dictators, but to get the nomination a NeoLiberal is going to need the progressive base.

They wont get it nor will the progressives get the neoliberal support in the general. A recent poll of Bernie bros showed 20 percent of his supporters will vote for Trump with a great big FU to the Neoliberal status quo if a progressive is not nominated this year.

Understanding what is going on with the left is my obsession. I am certainly a conservative, libertarian but to defeat my political opponent I want to understand them and the nuances of what makes them tick. When I discuss this with Jeffy you can tell he has no idea what I am talking about and just goes back to shouting insults at Trump.

    • Professor Hale says:

You left out child molestation, human trafficking, aiding fugitives flee from justice and, of course, genocide.

  4. Kye says:

So you’re saying the racist Democrats left the Democrat party and went GOP therefore making the GOP racist? I think not my friend. All they did was keep being the same racists in a different party. The Republican Party was born out of anti slavery and it has existed as a freedom party since. The democrats of today are just as racist as they were 100 years ago and all you need to do is look at the cities they control and the crime, drugs and illiteracy they foist upon their black constituents. They converted The Plantation into The Ghetto. That’s all. Hell, they don’t even think blacks are capable of getting a photo ID. Now THAT is racist!
