Colorado Sheriffs File Federal Lawsuit Over Gun Laws

Nice to know that some in law enforcement will not bow to the pressure and will support the 2nd Amendment Rights of law abiding citizens

(Fox News) Colorado sheriffs upset with gun restrictions adopted in the aftermath of last year’s mass shootings filed a federal lawsuit Friday, challenging the regulations as unconstitutional.

The lawsuit involves sheriffs from 54 of Colorado’s 64 counties, most representing rural, gun-friendly areas of the state.

The sheriffs say the new state laws violate Second Amendment protections that guarantee the right to keep and bear arms. Opponents are criticizing the lawsuit as political maneuvering.

The filing targets Colorado laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines and expand background checks. The regulations passed the Legislature this spring and are set to take effect July 1.

Most of the gun laws pushed by Democrats (who are against other citizens owning guns, yet typically won’t give up their own guns) would have little to no effect on nutbags who want to kill, like the Aurora shooter James Holmes. Heck, ban “large capacity magazines”? Make them. One can easily manufacture them.

A disarmed nation is a docile nation, at least for the law abiding citizens.

The law enforcement community is divided on the issue. In contrast to the sheriffs, the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police, which includes urban departments, supports the laws. The chiefs said the measures were “common-sense approaches” to protect the public “while not taking guns from law-abiding citizens in any way.”

When you read or hear people talking in that manner, you know that the idea is to take guns away from law-abiding citizens. “Common sense” seems to be a way to work around the Constitution.

Americans are disarming themselves. As fewer people hunt, as fewer people choose to live in rural areas, the percentage of Americans who choose to own guns gets smaller.. 30 years ago 50% of all American households owned at least 1 gun. today that has fallen to 32% and continues to drop. 75% of the guns that are used in mass murders were bought legally. The main reason that the murder rate has gone down is because hospitals are getting better at saving lives. In 2011 31,000 were shot. Few Americans really believe that “tyranny” is right around the corner and must be met by weapons with high capacity clips. 65% of ALL guns in the USA a re owned by 6% of the population. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/12/guns-in-america-statistics/60071/

Actually john the graph you reference stops in 2010.

Since 2005, gun ownership amongst women has gone from 13% to 23%.

In 2001, 41% of households owned guns. Today, that number is 47%.

Of course none of this matters as it still is a fundamental right to own a weapon and as the Colorado Sheriffs are saying, you nor the government has the authority to impede upon that right.

Gun permits has gone through the roof john.
John, don’t you recall the saying that Obama is the best gun salesman? Why do you think they say that? Gun purchases have skyrocketed over the last few years.

BTW, Chiefs of Police are political appointees. Sheriffs are elected. Always thought it funny that people who are paid to protect us, have a union.

Glad to see there are still some out there willing to take a stand against tyranny and unconstitutional grabs by gov’ts.

I worry though about how long it will take to run through the liberal courts. ObamaCAre was thought to be killed easily in the courts. Yet, even when it finally got to the SCOTUS, it was upheld. We thought McCain-Feingold was going to be killed in the courts – with Pres Bush signing it anyway hoping it would be killed – yet it wasn’t.
