Muslim Attacked In NYC, Must Be You Anti-Mosque…..Wait, What?

So, one of the big stories going on at Memeorandum, and in liberal blogosphere circles, is the attack of a Muslim cab driver

A city cab driver is in the hospital after being stabbed by a passenger who allegedly asked if he was Muslim, police tell NY1.

Investigators with the New York City Police Department say it all began Monday night when a 21-year-old man hailed a cab at 24th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan.

Police say the passenger asked the driver, “Are you Muslim?” When the driver said yes the passenger pulled a knife and slashed him in the throat, arm and lip.

Here’s hoping that the cabby recovers soon.

But, you know, this must be the fault of those anti-Muslim haters Pam Geller and Robert Spencer. Maybe the GOP in whole. Oh, wait

The apparent anti-Muslim assault on a New York city cabbie by a man shouting “Assalamu Alaikum. Consider this a checkpoint” produced an immediate round of recriminations over its connection to opposition to a New York Islamic Center and an apparent rising tide of Islamophobia.

But as often at the intersection of politics and violent crime, the story doesn’t appear to fit any easy stereotype: The alleged assailant, Michael Enright, is — according to his Facebook profile and the website of the left-leaning media organization Intersections International — a student at the School of Visual Arts and a volunteer for Intersections, which recently produced a statement of support for the Park51 project and is funded by the mainstream, liberal Collegiate Church of New York.

Ah. So, in other words, the assailant is a lefty. Glad to see that Raw Story didn’t go ballistic and blame-stormy, like some other left-siders.

More: Unshockingly, Excitable Chucky attempts to spin the connections away.

Still waiting for Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway to update his post, which blamed the attack on all that anti-Muslim rhetoric. James Joyner, same site, covering it doesn’t count.

Maha attempts to spin away, after mentioning that Enright sounds more like a drunk asshole (my paraphrase)

And for the super excitable, we have Juan Cole, who blames the RNC, and

Shame on you, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Lazio, and Sarah Palin, and all the other hatemongers. You have blood on your hands, and will have more if you go on this way.

In reality, this whole attack sounds less like an unhinged lefty trying to manufacture an incident, as they so often do, and more about a drunk asshole who should probably stay at home and watch Disney Kids instead (a puppy or kitten usually helps people calm down, but, really, they probably wouldn’t be safe).

More more: Michelle Malkin catches many libs running wild, including in the comments at Think Progress.

American Power wants to know when Charles Johnson will apologize to Pam and Robert

Triple More: The Daley Gator points out that, as usual, the Left has made asses out of themselves.

Da Tech Guy catches another moron blaming the TEA Party

Coverage will be minimal at best. A Leftist attacking a muslim? Doesn’t fit the narrative.

  2. I’m more upset with some supposed Conservatives, like Doug Mataconis, who immediately think the worst of Conservatives. They are entitled to their opinions, but, not their facts.

  3. […] worked today, then hit the gym, so I missed the story, however, William Teach has an awesome roundup of coverage! So, one of the big stories going on at Memeorandum, and in liberal blogosphere circles, […]

I’m finding Mataconis off on issues. Looks like he called Alaska wrong by knocking Palin’s pull putting Joe Miller ahead and now this story makes two in less than two weeks.

He has a strong voice but he’s not hitting the mark.

  6. John Ryan says:

    a ‘leftist” or a provocateur ?

  7. He does seem to be creating his own unfulfilled prophesies, eh, Maggie?

The guy was a lefty, John, but, really, this seems to be about a drunk wackjob.

  8. Otter says:

Are you suggesting that leftists can NOT be provocateurs, ‘lil LIAR?
