Nice to see a country actually take a stand against one part of Sharia
A Bangladesh court has ruled that people cannot be forced to wear skull caps, veils or other religious clothing in workplaces, schools and colleges.
The ruling came after reports that a college in the north had forced students to wear veils.
The high court also ruled that women cannot be prevented from taking part in sports or cultural activities.
Bangladesh is one of the so-called moderate Muslim countries, with a population that is mostly Muslim. I guess we will have to wait and see if the hard cases who reside in the country decry this ruling, and whether the moderate Muslims uphold this ruling. This could be a good step toward Muslim not being treated as second class citizens. One would think that women’s groups around the world would want to stand up for the treatment of women in Islamic countries, yet, the don’t. Related, Doug Giles wonders, as well.
