Woops! UN IPCC “Scientist” Admits He Knew Himalayan Glacier Data Was A Lie

This begs the question: if the people involved with the UN IPCC intentionally put this false data in the 2007 assesment for political purposes, what else is a complete fabrication in their reports?

The scientist behind the bogus claim in a Nobel Prize-winning UN report that Himalayan glaciers will have melted by 2035 last night admitted it was included purely to put political pressure on world leaders.

Dr Murari Lal also said he was well aware the statement, in the 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), did not rest on peer-reviewed scientific research.

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, Dr Lal, the co-ordinating lead author of the report’s chapter on Asia, said: ‘It related to several countries in this region and their water sources. We thought that if we can highlight it, it will impact policy-makers and politicians and encourage them to take some concrete action.

‘It had importance for the region, so we thought we should put it in.’

Got that? It didn’t matter if the data was real, because it was the political ends that mattered. I’m sure all the little climate alarmists will soon be trotting out the “fake but accurate” argument, as they drink themselves silly.

Anyway, the Daily Mail article is replete with monsterous smackdowns on the UN IPCC, such as “In fact, the 2035 melting date seems to have been plucked from thin air”, so, read the whole thing.

Meanwhile, regarding that Nobel prize, Andrew Bolt is wondering if the Nobel can be withdrawn? Even NY Times climate alarmist Andy Revkin (who’s pushing the silly meme that AGW will now reduce the number of hurricanes but make them stronger, a store I never got around to writing about the other day) admits that GlacierGate could be really big trouble.

And, over at the Times Online, we find out the UN wrongly linked AGW with natural disasters. Shocking, eh? (via The Purple Avenger at Ace of Spades)

And, I hate to give that chump Charles Johnson a link (usually I do it in a way to give the link to Basil, but, not this time), but, check through the feedreader, it looks like he is already pushing the “fake but accurate” meme. He also offers up this photo of glacier melt in the Himalayas

Hmm, so, over 87 years, the glaciers receded 300-400 feet. Shocking that that would happen during the middle of a warm period that started in the mid-1800’s after the Little Ice Age ended, eh? It doesn’t mean that Man caused the warming.

  1. Otter says:

I am noticing in a number of places that people are seeing more and more Positive coverage of the Climategate fallout in the ‘mainstream’ meadia. I still think it will take months for it to happen but the agw blood is in the water and the Sharks of Reality will be massing!

I just hope they get ahold of algore, sudssucki, patcholi and a few others before they all manage to disappear to countries friendly to them- like Venezuela or Iran.

  2. True. I think many in the media are starting to get the clue that people are sick to death over AGW scaremongering and the fake “news” stories, and are changing their tune. I have had a hard time finding many scaremongering reports as of late.
