Global Warming Nutters vs. Karl Rove

Ya know, usually I am excerpting from the insanocrats at the Huffington Post. Ah, but today, let's see what a few nutters, by the names of Laurie David and Sheryl Crow, have to say

Last night Thelma and Louise drove the bus off the cliff or at least into the White House Correspondents Dinner. The "highlight" of the evening had to be when we were introduced to Karl Rove. How excited were we to have our first opportunity ever to talk directly to the Bush Administration about global warming.

Wait, weren't Thelma and Louise actually violent?

We asked Mr. Rove if he would consider taking a fresh look at the science of global warming. Much to our dismay, he immediately got combative. And it went downhill from there.

He probably was wishing for some airspray.

We reminded the senior White House advisor that the US leads the world in global warming pollution and we are doing the least about it. Anger flaring, Mr. Rove immediately regurgitated the official Administration position on global warming which is that the US spends more on researching the causes than any other country.

The last person to be discussing anger is Laurie David (down near the end of the interview, search "confrontational." Excerpted lower down)

We felt compelled to remind him that the research is done and the results are in (www.IPCC.ch). Mr. Rove exploded with even more venom. Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, Mr. Rove launched into a series of illogical arguments regarding China not doing enough thus neither should we. (Since when do we follow China's lead?)

So laughter is now venom? Considering they were citing a purely political report, I'd laugh too!

In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, "Don't touch me." How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? (what, is Sheryl Cleopatra, now?) Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, "You can't speak to us like that, you work for us." Karl then quipped, "I don't work for you, I work for the American people." To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, "We are the American people."

And it continues on in that vein for a little bit, but, hey, it is good red meat for the Hufftards, writing that "Mr. Rove was dismissive, condescending, and quite frankly a bully." Again, the last person to be writing about being a bully is Laurie David.

Q:  I've heard that you pull up alongside Hummer drivers on the highway and yell at them.

A: I'm very confrontational. I work at the grass-tops but I also work at the grass-roots. You might see me on the corner leafleting and yelling at people on the highway, but I also have access to high-level people, so I work from both sides. It's gotten to the point where my kids in the back seat of my car see an SUV coming and they say, "Mommy, please! No! Don't say anything!" They're horrified. But I believe in peer pressure. Look how peer pressure has worked for people not wearing fur coats or smoking. We have to spread the message that it isn't cool anymore.

Confrontational and causing her children mental anguish. Great. She also admits to "yelling at people on the highway" for driving cars she deems insufficiently congenial to the environment.

And, while I applaud Sheryl and Laurie driving around in their eco-friendly bus on their stop global warming tour, I have to wonder whether Laurie actually travels around in it, considering

As author Bernard Goldberg reports in his 2005 book, 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America, David is no slouch with regard to energy consumption: While hectoring SUV drivers, David, who dislikes traveling on commercial airlines, is ferried about in private Gulfstream jets that operate on some 2,100 gallons of jet fuel. Queried about her travel preferences by the New York Times, David, typically anxious for media attention, declined to comment.

Let's not forget that The Atlantic dubbed her the original Gulfstream Liberal.

That should about cover it. I've actually emailed Rove, but, I do not expect a response.

Update: Seems as if the Washington Post has a wee bit more unbiased take:

Global warming was the talking point last night at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner when singer Sheryl Crow and "Inconvenient Truth" producer Laurie David walked over to Table 92 at the Hilton Washington to chat with Karl Rove — and the resulting exchange was suitably heated.

Rove's version: "She came over to insult me and she succeeded."

News of the dust-up filtered quickly through the room. Some witnesses said David was very aggressive with Rove; a shaken Crow later said that Rove was "combative and unresponsive."

Hmm, I'll put my money on the the Global Warming kooks to have been the ones to start it.

I like lots of leftie singers. Best example: Ani DiFranco, who is so far left that she makes Crow look like a member of the “Buchanan Brigade.” What I don’t understand is, what the heck are these people doing at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

  5. Good question. I suspect it had a lot to do with invites from some of the more liberal folks, as there were plenty of actors there, as well.

I tend to ignore an artists political views when I listen to music, unless it is in the music. Paul Simon is great, confirmed socialist (to put it mildly), and some of my favorite heavy metal folks are die hard libs.
