Illegal Immigrant Sob Story Part 3,458

Epitomizing the phrase “bleeding heart liberal” (New York Times)

Federal immigration agents were searching a house in Ohio last month when they found a young Honduran woman nursing her baby.

The woman, Saída Umanzor, is an illegal immigrant and was taken to jail to await deportation. Her 9-month-old daughter, Brittney Bejarano, who was born in the United States and is a citizen, was put in the care of social workers.

The decision to separate a mother from her breast-feeding child drew strong denunciations from Hispanic and women’s health groups. Last week, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency rushed to issue new guidelines on the detention of nursing mothers, allowing them to be released unless they pose a national security risk.

The case exposes a recurring quandary for immigration authorities as an increasing number of American-born children of illegal immigrants become caught up in deportation operations. With the Bush administration stepping up enforcement, the immigration agency has been left scrambling to devise procedures to deal with children who, by law, do not fall under its jurisdiction because they are citizens.

Anyone got a tissue? But, wait a moment, how did this get in this New York Times story?

“We are faced with these sorts of situations frequently, where a large number of individuals come illegally or overstay and have children in the United States,” said Kelly A. Nantel, a spokeswoman for the agency. “Unfortunately, the parents are putting their children in these difficult situations.”

And that is the crux of the matter. Whether illegals are having babies on purpose in order to attempt to remain in the country-I bet the abortion on demand is upset with them for that!-the fact remains that they are having them, the bleeding heart liberals are buying in to this, and, lo and behold, the federal officials have come out with new guidelines on treating these mothers, and will determine, along with a social worker (read liberal) on whether or not they should be released while awaiting deportation. At which point, they will either be released, or search for some sanctuary. Or perhaps get one of the illegal immigrant protection groups to use legal proceedings.

About two-thirds of the children of the illegal immigrants detained in immigration raids in the past year were born in the United States, according to a study by the National Council of La Raza and the Urban Institute, groups that have pushed for gentler deportation policies for immigrant families.

That does give rise to the notion that they are doing it on purpose. I wonder how much time and money they are taking in our medical facilities? Regardless, why should the family be treated any different then singles? Furthermore, why should they be treated any different then if a U.S. citizen is sent to jail, being seperated from their families?

The baby was born in January in Oregon, where Ms. Umanzor’s husband, also Honduran and an illegal immigrant, was working in a saw mill.

Through a quick records check during the raid, the immigration agents discovered a July 2006 order of deportation for Ms. Umanzor, who had failed to appear for a court date after she was caught crossing a Texas border river illegally.

So, she stayed, and, depending on the timing, was either massively pregnant at the time she was caught, or became pregnant. I wonder why.

“Just thinking that I was going to leave my little girl, I began to feel sick,” Ms. Umanzor said of the baby. “I had a pain in my heart.”

Take them with yourself and your illegal immigrant husband. You can do that, you know.

As a sidebar, I have mentioned many times that it seems as if stories that really aren’t completely ultra-leftists end up in the Times on Saturdays. This story does give a somewhat balanced viewpoint, and is rather good reporting, especially as the parts about illegals taking responsibility are throughout the article, including the 4th paragraph. I still say the Times’ editors are tying a good one on after work on Friday’s, so honest reporting slips through.

  1. Another day, another open trackback…

Our Churches need to wake up and get back to basics if they expect us to continue attending. There is evil out there, and if they will not address it? Then they would be better off tying a mulberry bush around their necks and jumping into the sea!…

Get rid of them all. I just had a call from the NRSC and I told her what she could do with her suggestion for a Republican majority. I’m more interested in a law and order majority!

I have had 3-5 calls from them within the past week. They are as stupid as the illegals. Why doesn’t anyone get the word, ‘illegal’?

Rosemary is right! NO FEAR sugar! The GOP will never get more than 7% of black votes or 25% of Latino votes. I turned down our GOP Christmas Party invitations too… RINO GOPhers 2001-2008!
