Bummer: Madrid Climate Conference Ends With A Whimper

They couldn’t figure out a way to take money from producers and give it to “developing nations” nor implement more fascist government controls on citizens and private entities. But, hey, they got a good vacation paid for by taxpayers in Madrid

U.N. Climate Talks End Without Meeting Goals

Climate negotiators failed to strengthen targets to cut emissions or to create a global carbon-trading system, two main goals of the 2015 Paris accord, as the impending U.S. exit from the pact exacerbated challenges to cut record-high planet-warming gases.

Delegates from nearly 200 nations sparred for two weeks in Madrid at the annual United Nations climate summit without setting new emissions targets before next year’s U.N. convention in Glasgow or creating a framework to reward and encourage efforts to cut emissions.

“Regretfully, after all the hard work that you have all done we couldn’t get to an agreement,” said Chile’s Environment Minister Carolina Schmidt, who presided over the summit that ended Sunday. “The new generations expect more from us.”

Financing to help poorer countries transition into less-polluting technology also proved contentious. The issue deepened the divide between less-developed countries that account for a fraction of greenhouse-gas releases and economic powers responsible for the vast majority of it.

The hotels were fantastic, as well as the food, though!

(New Scientist) António Guterres, the UN secretary general, said he was disappointed with the outcome, and that leaders had missed an opportunity to be more ambitious on climate change mitigation, adaptation and finance for poorer countries. “But we must not give up, and I will not give up,” he tweeted.

Claire Perry O’Neill, the former UK climate minister who will be president of the Glasgow summit, argued it was better to have no deal on the carbon markets than a bad one. The UK would “pull no punches” in making the scheme work for everyone next year, she tweeted.

There was also no progress on “loss and damage” – the principle of vulnerable countries hit by climate-linked damage being able to claim economic losses from richer ones – and long-term financing to help poorer countries.

Of course, we mostly hear the same thing year after year after year, going back to the first Conference On The Parties twenty five years ago. Heck, going back even further.

UN Climate Summit Ends With a Whimper

The longest global climate conference in its 25-year history came to an end Sunday after negotiations ran nearly two days over its initial deadline. Unfortunately, talks in Madrid went about as well as they do every year at the United Nation’s (UN) historically ineffective summit: There was a lot of finger-pointing, not a lot of commitments to actionable change, and plenty of crucial decisions pushed to next year’s docket to worry about another day. (snip)

Greenpeace executive director Jennifer Morgan, was more direct in her statement about the outcome. She called it “totally unacceptable” and said “[d]ecision-makers now need to go home, regroup and think about how to move forward as we head into a critical 2020.”

Yup, they need to book their fossil fueled flights, limos, and hotel rooms for next year in Glasgow. Probably not the best spot for a meeting in the beginning of December. Rather chilly.

Excitable Chuck Schumer Thinks He Can Dictate How Senate Impeachment Goes

After Democrats dominated the House hearings, laying out the rules without GOP input, limiting who the GOP could call, refusing to include exculpatory evidence in their final report, and, essentially, as Rep Doug Collins wrote, “the majority decided to pursue impeachment first and build a case second,” Democrats in the Senate think they have power

Schumer, Pushing McConnell to Negotiate, Lays Out Plan for Impeachment Trial

As the House prepared to make President Trump only the third president in American history to be impeached, the Senate’s top Democrat on Sunday laid out a detailed proposal for a Senate trial “in which all of the facts can be considered fully and fairly” — including subpoenas for documents the White House has withheld and witnesses it has prevented from testifying.

Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democratic leader, presented the proposal in a letter to his Republican counterpart, Senator Mitch McConnell, in an opening move to force Republicans to negotiate over the shape and scope of the proceedings. Mr. McConnell had said last week that he was “taking my cues” from the White House, prompting Democrats to accuse him of abandoning his duty to render “impartial justice” in the trial.

In the letter, Mr. Schumer proposed a trial beginning Jan. 7 that would give each side a fixed amount of time to present its case, and called for four top White House officials who have not previously testified — including Mick Mulvaney, Mr. Trump’s acting chief of staff, and John R. Bolton, the president’s former national security adviser — to appear as witnesses.

Mr. Schumer also called for the Senate to subpoena documents that could shed light on the events at the heart of the charges against Mr. Trump: his campaign to enlist Ukraine to investigate his political rivals. And he set forth a specific timetable for each side to present its case, modeled on the one used when President Bill Clinton was tried in 1999. Mr. Clinton’s trial lasted about five weeks.

Except, the articles of impeachment barely touch on Ukraine, and, if Schumer wants to open this can of dog food, then the GOP should call Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, a few of the Ukranians involved, and, oh, heck, let’s call Barack Obama, because Joe Biden specifically stated that Obama would back him on withholding $1 billion in aid if they didn’t fire the guy investigating Burisma.

“Senate Democrats believe strongly, and I trust Senate Republicans agree, that this trial must be one that is fair, that considers all of the relevant facts, and that exercises the Senate’s ‘sole power of impeachment’ under the Constitution with integrity and dignity,” Mr. Schumer wrote.

Schumer should talk to his House comrades, who set the tone. It’s been a complete partisan process there, so, don’t expect anything different in the Senate, considering this is all about Trump Derangement Syndrome from the Left

(Yahoo News) Lindsey Graham will not try to “pretend to be a fair juror” should Donald Trump face an impeachment trial in the US Senate.

Speaking at the Doha Forum in Qatar on Saturday, the South Carolina Republican and close Trump ally said he was “trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind. I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror here. What I see coming, happening today, is just a partisan nonsense.”

“This thing will come to the Senate,” he said on Saturday, “and it will die quickly, and I will do everything I can to make it die quickly.”

Schumer and the Dems can caterwaul all they want: they should have told their House comrades to run a fair and impartial hearing to start.

St. Greta Of Stockholm Apologizes If You Misconstrued Her Call To Put People Against The Wall

See, you just didn’t understand what she was really saying (even though you knew exactly what she was saying with her off the cuff comment)

Greta Thunberg apologizes after saying politicians should be put ‘against the wall’

Greta Thunberg apologized Saturday after saying that politicians should be put “against the wall” after some critics alleged that the teen climate activist was advocating for violence against officials.

“Yesterday I said we must hold our leaders accountable and unfortunately said “put them against the wall”. That’s Swenglish: “att ställa någon mot väggen” (to put someone against the wall) means to hold someone accountable,” Thunberg tweeted.

“That’s what happens when you improvise speeches in a second language. But of course I apologise if anyone misunderstood this. I can not enough express the fact that I – as well as the entire school strike movement- are against any possible form of violence. It goes without saying but I say it anyway,” she continued.

Holding them accountable can mean putting them against the wall, could it not? But, see, the problem is your ignorance, not her clarion call to put people who refuse to comply with her uneducated, Outraged, unhinged beliefs. Remember when we were told we were only supposed to listed to those with degrees in climate science? She hasn’t even graduated high school, and is blowing school off. Once the mask slips you can’t put it back on.

However, some right-wing critics on social media accused the teen of advocating for violence, according to the AP.

Pouncing or seizing? Now, just imagine some right leaner said the same thing: think the media would be so quick to let it go?

Here We Go Again: People Freak Over The Circle Game At Army-Navy Game, Call It White Power

The people at 4Chan who came up with the whole “throwing the OK sign is white power” to troll the media get an A+ for their success

Possible ‘white power’ hand signs at Army-Navy game probed

The Army and Navy academies are looking into hand signs flashed by students that can be associated with “white power” and were televised during the Army-Navy football game on Saturday, school officials said.

Cadets at West Point and midshipmen at the Naval Academy in the stands both appeared to display the sign during the broadcast, officials with the two military academies told The Wall Street Journal. The gesture was seen during an ESPN broadcast segment.

School officials are trying to determine what the hand signals were meant to convey, they said.

“We’re looking into it,” Lt. Col. Chris Ophardt, a spokesperson for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York, told the Journal. “I don’t know what their intention is.”

“We are aware and will be looking into it,” said Cmdr. Alana Garas, a spokesperson for the U.S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Maryland.

It’s the Circle Game (which, apparently, Jesus played).

The more people whine about this, the more people will do it where cameras can catch it, and everyone who caught it should punch themselves in the shoulder. This was started as a hoax to see how desperate the media was and how little integrity journalists have. The idea being to put forth claims with shaky evidence that wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny to convince news outlets and reporters of fake stories or developments. The fact the journalists actually found the thread where this plan was concocted with hard evidence that it was all a hoax and still ran with the story is very telling.

I see breathless stories in the USA Today, Philadelphia Inquirer, HuffPost, and many others to go with the AP article above. These people are stupid.

St. Greta Goes Full Homicidal Dictator, Will Put World Leaders Up Against The Wall

Funny how so many climate cultists always want to punish people for refusing to comply with their dictates

How dare world leaders and others not listen to the unhinged rantings of a 16 year old who’s blowing off school

“Unfortunately, we probably already know the outcome. World leaders are still trying to run away from their responsibilities but we have to make sure they cannot do that.

We will make sure that we put them against the wall and they will have to do their job to protect our futures.”

Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Castro, the Iranian mullahs, Pol Pot, and Torquemada would be very proud.

CNN: Supreme Court Is Interfering With Democrats Attempts To Get Trump’s Private Records

See, because only lower courts stocked with Democrat supporters should be able to rule on Constitutional issues

Intervening! Keep private records private! How dare they consider Constitutional issues! Congress should be allowed to Demand records of all citizens anytime they want!

(CNN) On the same day that a Democratic-led US House committee voted for articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, the Supreme Court made its own momentous decision to intervene in Trump’s effort to keep his tax returns and other financial records secret.

The justices agreed to resolve in spring 2020 if a sitting president should be immune from any criminal proceeding, whether related to conduct before taking office or even — to use Trump’s famed example – shooting someone on Fifth Avenue in New York. The high court also said it would determine the oversight authority of Congress in paired disputes arising from attempts by House Democrats to obtain Trump’s financial documents.

The eventual decisions would help define the high court in the Trump era, especially as Chief Justice John Roberts has tried to carefully navigate Trump-related litigation and regularly declares that the justices are above politics. (snip)

The acceptance of a case for review does not determine the outcome. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court’s brief order on Friday signals that at least four justices — the number required to grant a case a hearing — believe Trump has a legitimate claim in his assertions that a president should be protected from state investigation while in office and similarly shielded from broad congressional oversight.

Well, we pretty much know how the Liberal judges will vote. I’d be surprised if any of them come down on the Trump’s side, which is the Constitutional side, namely, that there is no requirement in the Constitution for any president to provide financial documents or tax returns

In urging the justices not to hear Trump’s effort to block a subpoena to his longtime accountants Mazars USA, lawyers for the US House noted that House members are elected for two-year terms, so further delays would “prevent the people’s representatives from carrying out their constitutional duties in the limited remaining time they possess.”

Their first duty is to read the Constitution. Article II Section 1 is rather specific

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

That’s the requirement. Period. It’s in black and white. It doesn’t mean things can be added on arbitrarily, and Trump’s lawyers will be able to easily argue that this is a fishing expedition based on partisan politics. You can bet CNN would fight in court if the House or Senate demanded documents for the same reason.

Cultist Mike Bloomberg Unveils His Climate Plan Or Something

Apparently, high flying Michael Bloomberg missed the part where focusing on ‘climate change’ killed off the aspirations of Jay Inslee, and doesn’t really move the needle with the even Democrats. People might care about man-caused climate change in theory, but, not in practice. Most do not want to pay even $10 a month to “solve” it

Bloomberg unveils plan to combat climate change, cut emissions by 50 percent in 10 years

White House hopeful Michael Bloomberg on Friday unveiled his plan to combat climate change, setting a series of deadlines he would meet to curb emissions.

The former New York City mayor’s plan would get the country toward a 100 percent “clean-energy economy-wide future” by 2050, slash emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and ensure 80 percent clean electricity by the end of his second term in office.

“The president refuses to lead on climate change, so the rest of us must,” said Bloomberg. “I’ve been all in on this fight for more than a decade – and having helped close more than half the nation’s dirty coal plants, having cut New York City’s carbon footprint by 14 percent, having led a coalition of cities, states, and businesses committed to the Paris Agreement, I know that we can win.

Oh, good, the guy who takes lots and lots of fossil fueled trips, including on evil private jets, has worked hard to make the cost of energy more expensive for The Little People. He’s the very definition of a climahypocrite.

“We’ve proven that you can transition to clean energy and strengthen the economy at the same time,” he continued. “As president, I’ll accelerate our transition to a 100% clean energy economy.”

Bloomberg would accomplish his plan by working to phase out emissions in the electricity sector, replacing all coal plants with clean energy no later than 2030 and setting firm dates to retire specific sites. He would also end all subsidies for fossil fuels and put in place a moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases on federal lands.

I’ve said before, I’m no fan of coal, but, you can’t replace its energy output with solar and wind. And Mike’s plan makes no mention of nuclear power plants, and he wants “to stop the rush to build new” natural gas plants. Natural gas is extremely affordable, reliable, and the facilities have small land footprints, and work, unlike solar and wind. Nor why he failed to make NYC carbon neutral. His plan does mention

Ensure corporations are held responsible for the damages they have created, and commitments made to impacted communities are honored.

Like the corporations he owns, which use vast amounts of fossil fuels to operate?

Fully embed environmental justice into how the government conducts its work – putting intense focus on federal rulemaking, enforcement, and investments on communities disproportionately impacted by the production and use of coal and gas.

So, this really isn’t about ‘climate change’, but about SJW politics. Good to know. How soon does his campaign end, with his focus on Hotcoldwetdry?
