Nearly Half of Teens Can’t Identify What Causes Climate Change. Why That Matters

Teens have a shaky understanding of the causes of climate change and the strong scientific consensus around the fact that human activity is driving up global temperatures, according to a report.

Really, once you mention consensus and science in the same breath your argument is over. Science is science. It is fact. Not a bunch of people having the same beliefs. The consensus once was that the Sun went around the Earth, and that the Earth was at the center of everything

A little more than half of teenagers correctly identified in a national survey that emissions from human activity is the biggest contributor to climate change, and less than half knew that nearly all climate scientists agree on that point.

Teens need a strong understanding of the basics of the science behind climate change to be prepared for their futures, said Laura Schifter, a senior fellow with the Aspen Institute, and the founder of its This Is Planet Ed initiative, which produced the report.

Indoctrination fail. And, it’s an utter lie that nearly all climate scientists agree. Hey, maybe the kiddies have noticed that the people telling them that the world is doomed from human CO2 output put out a lot of CO2 themselves?

“What are the things that are going to be shaping our children’s world? Those need to be taught in schools,” Schifter said. “AI is one, climate change is one. People [are thinking about] how to integrate AI into education because they see that as something that will be impacting jobs, the way we interact with each other, and the world in the future. Climate is doing that exact same thing: it’s impacting jobs, and it’s impacting how and where we live.”

Maybe the kiddies aren’t interested in doomsday scenarios anymore?

Despite these misconceptions, other research has found that teens still worry about climate change. A 2022 EdWeek Research Center survey found that 37% of teenagers feel anxious when they think about climate change and its effects, and more than a third feel afraid.

That’s actually down from older folks, so, looks like they are not buying into the doom and gloom anymore.

Trump administration plans big immigration enforcement operation in Chicago as soon as next week

The Trump administration is preparing to conduct a major immigration enforcement operation in Chicago as soon as next week, according to multiple sources familiar with the planning, marking the latest escalation between the president and a Democratic-led city.

President Donald Trump and his aides have repeatedly slammed Chicago over policies that limit cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration enforcement. Chicago grappled with an influx of migrants during the Biden administration following surges along the US southern border and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to transport migrants to Democratic-led cities.

Now, the anticipated operations in Chicago are expected to be at a larger scale, using personnel from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, and possibly other agencies. Officials are preparing the National Guard to help if a peacekeeping presence is needed, akin to what unfolded in Los Angeles following protests, the sources said.

Preparations for Chicago are already underway, including sending armored vehicles to the city in the coming days and surging federal agents by next Friday, Sept. 5, when, according to two sources, the operation is expected to kick off. Discussions, however, are still ongoing and planning is in flux.

Oh, it will be so fun watching the caterwauling a teeth gnashing when this starts from Democrats.

White House officials have made clear that these plans are distinct from the idea the president has suggested over the past week to use federal law enforcement and National Guard troops to carry out a broader crime crackdown in Chicago, similar to the current surge in Washington, DC.

But, will they? Regardless, I’ll say what I said when Los Federales went into LA: I’d much rather they focus on small town America which saw a bunch of illegals/fake asylum seekers shipped to them by the Biden admin, get them out first. Let the Dem sanctuary jurisdictions deal with all the illegals in their own areas. Watch illegals stream to those cities and overrun them, causing lots and lots of problems, and costing lots and lots of money. Save the big Dem cities for last.

Heatwaves are making people age faster, study warns

Repeated exposure to heatwaves, which are growing more frequent due to climate change, may accelerate ageing, particularly among manual workers, a new study warns.

Although previous research showed heatwaves had negative effects on the health of older people, it primarily focused on short-term exposure to sustained heat. The new study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, assessed the potential long-term impact of heatwaves on health and ageing.

Researchers analysed data from 24,922 adult people in Taiwan with an average biological age of 46 years to assess how heatwaves influenced ageing.

They defined rapid ageing as the difference between biological and actual age and assessed its association with heatwave exposure.

Biological age is a measure of how well the human body functions at the molecular and organ levels compared to its chronological age based on the birthdate.

By analysing patient data from 2008 to 2022, the researchers found an increase in cumulative heatwave exposure was associated with a rise in age acceleration.

The findings suggest people living in places that experience more days of high heat show greater biological ageing on average than those in cooler regions.

Um, it’s not like there’s a massive variation in the climate areas of Taiwan, right? It’s all so tiresome.

NY Times: Minneapolis Shooter’s Motive Is A Total Mystery!

Minneapolis Suspect Knew Her Target, but Motive Is a Mystery
The shooter who attacked a Catholic school on Wednesday posted social media videos and writings that betrayed a litany of grievances and obsessions.

For one thing “she” is a guy. Transgender. Crazy

The person who the police say opened fire on a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday appears to have known the school well.

Robin W. Westman, who officials said strafed the church through the stained glass windows, killing two children, was believed to have once attended the school at Annunciation Catholic Church, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.

Her mother, Mary Grace Westman, worked in the business office of the church for five years before retiring in 2021. And in a video posted on social media, the suspect showed a hand-drawn rendering of the Annunciation interior.

And Ms. Westman, armed with three weapons, seemed to choose the time carefully. She barricaded the doors during the first all-school Mass of the academic year, the police said.

But it is hard to fathom what drove Ms. Westman to attack before killing herself, despite the dark and violent writings and videos she left behind.

Well, his original name was Robert.

On social media, some conservative activists have seized on the shooter’s gender identity to broadly portray transgender people as violent or mentally ill. The police did not provide any motive for the attack, but Ms. Westman’s extensive social media history was a contradictory catalog of anger and grievance.

Are you sure we’re not pouncing?

In seemingly stream-of-consciousness videos that she posted, she fixated on guns, violence and school shooters. She displayed her own cache of weapons, bullets and what appear to be explosive devices, scrawled with antisemitic and racist language and threats against President Donald Trump.

The videos also show pages from a diary, with long entries describing self hatred, violence against children, and a desire to inflict harm on herself. The diary entries are almost entirely written in English, but using Cyrillic letters. A sticker in the diary displays L.G.B.T.Q. and transgender flags with a gun and the slogan “Defend Equality.”

Police said that the videos have been taken offline.

Maybe it’s a bad idea to take everything offline, because that creates more conspiracy theories. But, hey, anyhow, after all that the Times wrote they can’t figure out that Robert was nuts, hated Trump, hated Israel and Jews? Though, in fairness, it doesn’t explain why he attacked the Christian school. Other than being nuts.

More haboob dust storms are coming to California thanks to climate change

For anyone wondering whether intense dust storms, like the haboob that enveloped Phoenix this week, are possible in Southern California, the answer is yes.

They’ve hit in the recent past and are a growing issue over much of Southern California and the Central Valley, thanks to the drying associated with climate change, water over-use, wildfire, off-roading, tractors on dry soil, and construction, experts say.

In 2022, for instance, there was a massive haboob in the Salton Sea area. The dust from that nighttime storm — with a 3,000-foot high wall of dust and 60 mile per hour winds — went all the way to Los Angeles. (snip)

It’s a serious enough phenomenon that UC researchers formed a consortium, known as UC Dust. They estimate that more than 55,000 square miles in the state and 5 million Californian are directly affected by dust storms. Evans said they are difficult to forecast, leaving millions of people vulnerable and exposed. Porter agreed.

So, they’re simply guessing at this point? Other than in the headline and a bit in the second paragraph, there is absolutely nothing offered as proof that this is your fault.

Bummer: Judge Dugan Cannot Claim Judicial Immunity For Sheltering Illegal From ICE

US federal judge rules Wisconsin judge cannot claim immunity in immigration obstruction case

A US federal judge on Tuesday rejected a Wisconsin state court judge’s claim of judicial immunity, allowing criminal charges to proceed against her for allegedly obstructing federal immigration enforcement.

Judge Lynn Adelman of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin denied Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah C. Dugan’s motion to dismiss a federal indictment. The indictment charges Dugan under 18 U.S.C. § 1071 with concealing a person from arrest and under 18 U.S.C. § 1505 with obstructing removal proceedings conducted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Federal prosecutors allege that in April 2025, Dugan confronted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents outside her courtroom, told them they needed a judicial warrant to arrest a noncitizen defendant, and directed them to leave the area. According to the indictment, she later allowed the individual and his attorney to exit through a non-public jury door, advising that he could appear remotely at his next court date.

In her motion to dismiss, Dugan argued that the alleged conduct constituted official judicial acts shielded by absolute immunity, that the prosecution violated the Tenth Amendment by intruding on state court authority, and that the statutes should be construed to avoid constitutional conflicts. Judge Adelman rejected these arguments, ruling that while judges enjoy immunity from civil suits for damages, the Supreme Court has never recognized absolute judicial immunity from criminal liability. He emphasized that judicial acts may serve as the means of accomplishing an unlawful end, and that immunity does not bar prosecutions alleging corrupt intent.

I mean, it’s an attempt to use the judicial system, but, it’s all on video, and the federal government has absolute authority when it comes to illegal immigration, so, the 10th Amendment doesn’t apply. It’s right there in Article I. And, as Dems like to say, no one is above the law. And, heck, the feds could have also charged her with more, like 8 U.S. Code § 1324 – Bringing in and harboring certain aliens, section iii, for which the penalty is a fine and up to 5 years in jail. But, the government could argue she put the lives of federal agents in threat, they could ask up to 20 years.

Your Fault: Flesh Eating Bacteria Cases Are On The Rise

Flesh-eating bacteria cases are rising. Climate change is to blame, say scientists

Just southwest of New Orleans, in a tranquil fishing village on the Louisiana bayou, Linard Lyons spent the morning on his 19-foot boat, preparing crab traps for his grandchildren just like he had done thousands of times before.

This time, he noticed a tiny scratch on his leg – a scratch that nearly cost him his life.

Lyons went about his day but woke up the following morning feeling “delusional.” Feverish and vomiting, he initially thought he had just contracted a stomach bug, but then discovered a series of blackening sores spreading across his left leg. (snip)

That small scratch on Lyons’ leg became the entryway for Vibrio vulnificus, also known as flesh-eating bacteria. Those black sores on his leg signified necrotizing fasciitis, which “affects the tissue under your skin,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

These potentially deadly bacteria are naturally found and thrive in coastal waters during the warmer months, especially in brackish waters, where fresh water meets the sea, according to the US Centers for Disease and Control Prevention. Once largely confined to the Gulf Coast, cases have surged along the East Coast, with an 800% increase from 1988 to 2018, according to the CDC.

So, of course

The oceans are getting warmer and sea level is rising because of human-caused climate change, and scientists warn these factors are increasing the risk of Vibrio infections.

See? Your fault for driving a fossil fueled vehicle. It can’t possibly be norm for a typical Holocene warm period, right? Do we have a comparison to the spread of Vibrio vulnificus during previous warm periods?

“Maryland Man’s” Lawyer Wants Immigration Case Reopened So He Can Declare Asylum

Abrego Garcia’s attorneys ask to reopen his immigration case to seek asylum

Abrego Garcia, who was rearrested Monday in Maryland after he was released Friday from criminal custody in Tennessee, is currently being held in a detention center in Virginia, where the federal government is temporarily blocked from deporting him pending further proceedings in a habeas case.

“At 5pm yesterday, Petitioner filed a motion to reopen before an immigration judge to seek asylum in the United States,” his attorneys said in a proposed scheduling order filed on Tuesday. “Petitioner proposes that the parties allow the immigration judge to resolve that motion within two weeks from today.”

According to the emergency motion to reopen the case, his attorneys argue that because Abrego Garcia was deported and then brought back to the U.S., he is now eligible to apply for asylum within one year of his last entry into the U.S.

The motion asks the immigration court in Baltimore to “immediately” order a stay of removal to afford Abrego Garcia “an opportunity to seek protection from persecution and torture in Uganda,” where the government has indicated he could be sent.

Um, he didn’t voluntarily show up at the border declaring asylum: the government brought him back to face charges for felony human trafficking. Members of gangs are not eligible for asylum. Nor are wife beaters. It’s an interesting attempt by his lawyers, though, they have to throw everything at the wall.

“Respondent fears persecution and torture in Uganda because he is a Salvadoran national and would be a deportee without any legal status in Uganda,” his attorney said in the filing. “Furthermore, he is at risk of being removed to El Salvador by the Ugandan government where he is likely to once again face persecution and torture within CECOT.”

He can go anywhere he wants, as long as it is outside the U.S.

In the filing, the attorney also said that reopening the case is warranted to allow Abrego Garcia to designate Costa Rica as the country of removal.

Just say “Put me on a plane to Costa Rica. I’m outa here” and they’ll send you. Because, otherwise, the government is going to prosecute him and stick him in jail for quite some time for trafficking, and then deport him once released. Of course, I fully expect some wacko judge to rule in his asylum claim, because that’s what they seem to do. Which will then be overturned by a non-wacko court.

It’s still amazing, even knowing the Democratic Party, how much they are willing to defend this guy.
