Who could have seen this coming when no underling wants to indict their superiors?
(The Hill) An independent review of the deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi made public Tuesday night faults “systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies at senior levels†of the State Department.
The report by the Accountability Review Board says the local mission’s reliance on Libyan guards and militia members was “misplaced†and that the Libyan government’s response was “profoundly lacking.†However it “did not find reasonable cause to determine that any individual U.S. government employee breached his or her duty.â€
Surprise!
NPR writes
Despite those failures, the board found that no individual U.S. official ignored or violated his or her duties and no cause for any disciplinary action.
So, there was lots wrong with the handling of the situation, but, hey, no one did anything wrong, despite 4 deaths.

The report also confirms that there was no peaceful protest ahead of the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, as the Obama administration initially said in the days after the attack.
Well, yeah, that’s what most of us living in Reality Land knew as soon as it happened.
The report also found fault with Stevens, who was given a long leash because of his professed expertise about Libya and the security situation following Muamar Gadhafi’s overthrow.
“Embassy Tripoli did not demonstrate strong and sustained advocacy with Washington for increased security for Special Mission Benghazi,†the report says. It also confirmed that Stevens decided to travel to Benghazi on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks “independently of Washington, per standard practice.â€
Ah, so we’re blaming the dead guy. Who asked for increased security many, many times. Which was denied many, many times.
Hey, where’s the report on who gave the stand down orders and refused to send in US military assets to attempt to save our citizens?
Fortunately, now that the horse has already escaped the barn (from the NPR article)
“[T]he State Department is asking permission from Congress to transfer $1.3 billion from funds that had been allocated for spending in Iraq. This includes $553 million for additional Marine security guards; $130 million for diplomatic security personnel; and $691 million for improving security at installations abroad.”
Oh, good, let’s make the Iraq mission less safe. Perhaps we could spend less on Chevy Volts for our embassies instead.

Of course, Warmists will proclaim that man induced global warming is not uniform and can cause cooling or something
(Guardian) With bitterly cold weather setting in across Britain, the Cossack hat is shaping up as winter 2012’s high street fashion hit. The style made glamorous by Julie Christie in Doctor Zhivago, and more recently by Keira Knightley in Anna Karenina, is doing swift trade across the UK.
John Lewis says sales are up 36% year-on-year, and 320% in the last three weeks as temperatures have plummeted.
Marks & Spencer has also noted a significant uplift. Compared with last winter, sales of black Cossack hats have quadrupled, while purple, a new colour for 2012, is also performing well.
I’m sure a Warmist has a tailor made explanation for this.

Won’t someone think of the kids?
The strongest Northwest storm of the season dumped more snow in the mountains and even some lower elevations after earlier firing gusts up to 80 mph along the coast and knocking out power to thousands in the Seattle and Portland areas.
With 3 feet of snow already delivered by Tuesday morning, the Cascades in Washington were expected to get another 6 inches by Tuesday night and then 8-16 inches on Wednesday.
Wet snow pellets that looked like hail hit an area of south Everett during the Monday evening commute, depositing ice along Interstate 5. That snarled commuter traffic in both directions.
If those people hadn’t been driving fossil fueled vehicles they wouldn’t have warmed the world so much that it snowed.

Why? Tim Scott refuses to toe the NAACP line
(Daily Caller) The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People isn’t too excited about the appointment of Rep. Tim Scott to South Carolina’s soon-to-be-vacated U.S. Senate seat.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley announced her appointment of the black Republican during a noon press conference in Columbia, South Carolina.
This appointment makes Scott the only Black Senator.
“Mr. Scott certainly comes from a modest background, experience, and so forth, and should be sensitive to those issues,†Hilary Shelton, senior vice president for advocacy and policy at the NAACP said, referring to Scott’s impoverished single-parent upbringing in Charleston, SC.
“Unfortunately, his voting record in the U.S. House of Representatives raises major concerns,†Shelton said.
Shelton explained that the NAACP platform is crafted through an annual voting process which engages grassroots-level delegates who vote on the group’s national agenda. That agenda calls for an expansive role for federal government spending in black communities.
Scott, Shelton said, would likely work against that agenda, favoring instead the “small government†posture of Ronald Reagan and that president’s Secretary of Education, William Bennett.
“Small government usually means, as it’s being described these days, the elimination of the role of government and support for initiatives and programs that are crucial for the African-American community,†Shelton said.
Apparently the NAACP prefers the big government approach that has kept so many Blacks in abject poverty, completely beholden to the Central Planning Office. Apparently, the NAACP has forgotten that the second “A” stands for “advancement”. Perhaps they think it stands for Acedia, ie, stagnation.
