Surprise! ObamaCare Plans Start At $20,000 For Family Of 4

This is even before deductibles and out of pocket expenses, not to mention the other costs to the American taxpayer

(CNS News) In a final regulationissued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.

Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.

The IRS’s assumption that the cheapest plan for a family will cost $20,000 per year is found in examples the IRS gives to help people understand how to calculate the penalty they will need to pay the government if they do not buy a mandated health plan.

The examples point to families of four and families of five, both of which the IRS expects in its assumptions to pay a minimum of $20,000 per year for a bronze plan.

“The annual national average bronze plan premium for a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children) is $20,000,” the regulation says.

The bronze plan will be the most basic plan offered under O-care. In all fairness, the average cost of health care for a family of 4, per a survey early in 2012, was a bit over $20k, but, that did include all the costs for actual care, medicines, co-pays, etc.

Most of the premiums are being paid by employers, leaving costs to families at $12,144. Some states (mostly Blue ones) have much higher costs. I guess that’s really not fairness, because the O-care plan cost doesn’t include families actually using the most basic insurance plan per the IRS.

“Most people are insulated from the true cost of health care,” Weltz said. (from the “average cost” link)

Fortunately under ObamaCare people will know just what they’re paying, as more and more companies drop their coverage.

Politico: Women Are Better Calling 911 Than Having A Gun

The Democrat War On Women continues. Politico’s Roger Simon pens an opinion piece which tells women “hey, you’re safer just calling 911 than having a gun. Who cares if the criminal breaking in might rape, hurt, and/or kill you.”

Guns, ammo and … sex

I learned a lot about biology this week by watching a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that was titled: “What Should America Do About Gun Violence?”

I am not sure biology was supposed to be the point, but an odd witness, who is not an expert on gun violence, let it rear its ugly head.

Gayle Trotter is a senior fellow at the Independent Women’s Forum, a self-described conservative group that believes in “limited government, personal liberty and free markets.”

Trotter also believes in guns and ammo. Lots of ammo.

Roger goes on to sneer at Trotter and her testimony. It’s always interesting when Liberals, who say they support women’s rights and empowering them will immediately attack their opinions

“You are not a woman stuck in her house, not able to defend her children, not able to leave her child, not able to go seek safety on the phone with 911.”

This might be understandable if Trotter lived in Syria and needed to defend her family on a daily basis. But she lives in the United States. There is certainly violent crime in the United States, but little of it comes from criminals who kick down the doors of homes and come after women and children with guns blazing.

If that does happen, the safest thing to do is to call 911. The most dangerous thing to do is to keep loaded weapons around the house where children can find them and accidentally kill themselves or others. (And the Newtown shooter killed his mother in her sleep with one of the many guns she kept around the house for self-defense.)

There you go: hyper-liberal Simon says you’re better off being assaulted, ladies, because you can’t be trusted with a gun. You can surely be trusted with aborting a child willy nilly…perhaps this is why liberals are so insistent on mentioning abortion rights for rape victims, because Democrats prefer women to be raped rather than have the means to protect themselves from men with criminal intentions.

Personally, I believe a 100-round gun magazine is far more likely to be used by a criminal to kill innocent civilians and police than by a homeowner protecting herself.

Personally, I believe liberals who make up this meme about 100 round magazines are idiots. So, pretty much most of them. And they would prefer to disarm women and leave them open to criminals. That’s just how they roll.

Hotcoldwetdry A “Threat To Wildlife”

I truly love how climate astrologist immediately abandon all the principles of Darwinism when it comes to “climate change”

(USA Today)  From birds in the Plains to bighorn sheep in California to caribou in Alaska and moose in Minnesota, a new study says animals are struggling to adapt to the new climate conditions caused by the burning of fossil fuels, which produces the carbon dioxide that warms the atmosphere.

Because nothing else produces CO2 but fossil fueled vehicles, typically used to deliver dead tree copies of the USA Today.

“Climate change is the biggest threat wildlife will face this century,” says the report released today by the National Wildlife Federation, an environmental group based in Reston, Va.

Animals have always adapted to changes in climate. Heck, the little birdies in the Galapagos quickly adapt their beak lengths depending on whether it is a dry or wet year. This is nothing new. And some that can’t adapt die out. That’s the nature of life on Earth

Though animals have adapted to natural climate variation since the beginning of time, the changes are happening much faster than they are able to respond. “The underlying climatic conditions to which species have been accustomed for thousands of years are rapidly changing, and we are already witnessing the impacts,” according to the report, called “Wildlife in a Warming World.”

Aaaand, there we go, a way to say this is unusual. Even though you look back during this interglacial and see that when the climate switched either to warm or cool, it happened quickly. The Little Ice Age came on very fast. Animals survived.

The federation says the warning is not based on computer simulations of what could happen to wildlife: “The evidence is that it’s happening right here and right now.” says climate scientist Amanda Staudt of the wildlife federation. She says that many animal and plant species are shifting their ranges to colder locales and that these shifts are taking place two to three times faster than scientists anticipated.

That surely happened during the previous warm periods, and they surely moved to other locales when it became much cooler. How does the federation know exactly where the correct spot for the wildlife is? Perhaps they evolved in those “cooler locales”? And still the Warmists won’t change their own behavior.

Warmist Thinks Snow Budget Should Be Raised Because Of “Climate Change”

Can anyone tell me the difference between a drug addled cult and those who believe in “climate change”, because I’m not seeing the difference (via Tom Nelson)

(The Star Phoenix) A climate change expert from the University of Saskatchewan says the city should be doing more to budget for extreme weather events.

…Pomeroy says extreme storms caused by climate change are not isolated to costal areas. While the effects of climate change typically means a shorter winters and more rain, it can also mean more drastic extremes in the winter months.

“We are getting more extreme precipitation events and drought events and we should be expecting more of that here. That will include some really big blizzards and some very heavy snow events as well as winters where we just don’t have any snow,” Pomeroy said.

The City of Saskatoon currently bases its annual snow removal budget on average estimates of 60 to 90 centimetres of snow a year. In 2012, the snow and ice removal budget was $5.7 million. Thanks to major snowfalls in November, the city expects to be over that 2012 budget by anywhere from $800,000 to $1.3 million, according the city’s infrastructure manager.

Surprise: Glitch In Obama’s Signature Legislation To Price Families Out Of Health Insurance

I’m shocked, as I’m sure you are, as well, that there’s yet another “glitch” in Obamacare

(WTOP) Some families could get priced out of health insurance due to what’s being called a glitch in President Barack Obama’s overhaul law. IRS regulations issued Wednesday failed to fix the problem as liberal backers of the president’s plan had hoped.

As a result, some families that can’t afford the employer coverage that they are offered on the job will not be able to get financial assistance from the government to buy private health insurance on their own. How many people will be affected is unclear.

The article goes on to say that this could affect up to 500,000 children, which would mean quite a few adults, as well.

The Obama administration says its hands were tied by the way Congress wrote the law. Officials said the administration tried to mitigate the impact. Families that can’t get coverage because of the glitch will not face a tax penalty for remaining uninsured, the IRS rules said.

Gee, if only someone had read the legislation before it was rammed through using parliamentary tricks and bribes. And, before Obama starts Blaming Others, perhaps he should look at himself, since he signed the legislation, and if he didn’t know about this “glitch”, then shame on him.

People Who Won’t Give Up Their Own Handguns Testify In Favor Of Gun Control

Without sounding too insensitive, Democrats brought out Gabby Giffords to make an emotional plea during the Senate hearings Wednesday

(CNN) Her voice was halting, but not weak.

Two years after being shot in the head by a gunman at a political event, former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords appeared at the first congressional hearing since last month’s Connecticut school massacre to urge Congress to act now on gun violence.

“Too many children are dying. Too many children. We must do something,” Giffords said in a rare public appearance Wednesday, reading a statement that acknowledged her injuries made it difficult to speak.

“It will be hard, but the time is now,” she told the packed hearing held by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Both her and her husband Mark Kelly own handguns. If they really believe guns are a problem, they should turn them in to the police to be melted down. And we should all be concerned when people start talking about “Doing Something”, because it usually means a loss of freedom through Government regulation, especially done because of emotion.

If we really want to Do Something, it should revolve around going after criminals and punishing them harshly. But, instead, The Government and people like Giffords and Kelly want to infringe on the Constitutionally guaranteed rights of law abiding citizens, punishing them before they’ve committed a crime

National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre blamed the government for failing to enforce existing gun laws and said new restrictions, including background checks, won’t stop criminals from using weapons in violent crime.

“Law-abiding gun owners will not accept blame for the acts of violent or deranged criminals, nor do we believe that government should dictate what we can lawfully own and use to protect our families,” he said.

Why would the government start now? They already broke the law in trafficking guns across the border to Mexico, and people in the Obama administration have the blood of 2 US Federal agents and over 200 Mexicans on their hands. Strange how Democrats and their compliant media, along with Giffords and Kelly, weren’t particularly concerned about that gun violence, eh?

Interestingly, another woman, Gayle Trotter, testified before the Senate, saying what Democrats are attempting to do would make women less safe, as she told Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) who was badgering her

“You are not a young mother who has a young child with her,” she said. “And I am passionate about this position because you cannot understand, you are not a woman stuck in her house, having to defend her children, not able to leave her child, not able to seek safety, on the phone with 911, and she cannot get the police there fast enough to protect her child, and she is not used to being in a fire fight.”

Interestingly, many liberals, who tell us they are there to protect the rights of women, immediately started denigrating her for daring to get out of the kitchen and advocate. Here’s TBogg, who calls her a “Crazy Mama

Here is entirely reasonable mother of six, Gayle Trotter explaining the daily grind of taking care of her kids, washing and cleaning, making dinner, and blowing away hordes of ruffians and scalawags intent upon breaching the sanctity of her home is order to steal her Ethan Allen sideboard and matching china closet.

Hmm, that’s not too sexist, wouldn’t you say?

Delingpole: It’s Time To Stand Up To The Vicious Bullies Of The “Caring” Liberal Left

A good read from James Delingpole. Here’s the wrap up

All those environmentalists, for example, telling us that they’re acting in the interests of future generations. No they’re not – and it’s time we stopped letting them get away with pretending otherwise. Every new economy-sapping tax or regulation they introduce, every acre of rainforest or farmland they divert to biofuels, every percentage point of extra cost they add needlessly to the price of energy in their pointless quest for renewables, is like a boot in the face of our children and grandchildren. “No you can’t have a job. No you can’t have as high a standard of living as recent generations. Yes you will have to endure an era of low growth, increased government meddling in your life, and – quite likely – a period of riots, hyperinflation, possibly even war.”

The same applies to all the usual anti-freedom, anti-growth, anti-Western-civilisation suspects – the Occupy crowd who seem to think the solution is more of the government intervention that got us into this mess in the first place; the students whining for more free money to fund their mostly worthless degrees; the safety Nazis clamouring for the government to blow more of our tax dollars trying to abolish the  natural frailty of the human form. And yes, it applies very much to those vicious, embittered, self-righteous disability rights activists who hounded Philip Hensher for speaking no more than truth.

It’s time we lovers of liberty stood up to the fascist bullies who would steal our livelihoods, our freedoms and our right to self determination and self expression. You with me, people? You too, Philip?

I’m with you. Unfortunately, these same fascists, er, Progressives, control the majority of the media, government bureaucracies, and educational institutions. They control the unions. They’re shrill and screeching, loud and obnoxious. It’s hard to fight all that without become just as loud.

LA Times Wants To Stem The Flow Of Guns To Mexico

Strangely, the phrase “Operation Fast And Furious” is never mentioned

(LA Times) There are plenty of reasons right here at home to support President Obama’s effort to reform the nation’s gun laws. But if Congress requires additional arguments, it should consider that easy access to guns is also undermining the United States’ avowed goal of combating drug trafficking and transnational gangs abroad.

The U.S. has sent nearly $2 billion in aid to Mexico since 2007, much of that as part of the Merida Initiative, a counter-narcotics program designed to provide aid and equipment for that country’s drug war. Yet that assistance has been undermined by lax U.S. gun laws, which allow members of the drug cartels and their associates to buy weapons here and smuggle them across the border. At least 68,000 of the firearms seized in Mexico between 2007 and 2011 — and probably quite a lot more — came from the United States, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

And yet the Obama admin. still walked guns into Mexico without approval of the government of Mexico, and didn’t even bother to notify Mexican officials. The guns weren’t even tracked. Diane Feinstein’s bill would ban the sale and transfer of guns, which is already illegal.

The NRA’s arguments are scare tactics, designed to distract from the facts and inspire fear. The current efforts to limit gun violence don’t trample the Constitution. Rather, they aim to protect Americans at home and our interests abroad.

That’s always how it starts: it’s for your own good and the “greater good.” Pretty soon you wonder where your liberty went.
