The Real Hockey Stick Is Found

Yeah, that is the real data for the global temperature since 1980. That big spike in 1998? El Nino. (via Real Science from WoodForTrees). Meanwhile, CFACT has a billboard campaign going that shows no change in the global temperature since 1997, using HADCrut4 data.

Oh, and just to head the Warmists off at the pass, yes, the global temp is still higher than it was in 1980. That’s what happens during warm periods in the Holocene. It was still warmer in the 1930’s, and really, we’re talking about an increase of .4 Celsius, not exactly planet boiling, eh?

Oops: PINO Obama States Sequestration Is Not The Apocalypse

Yeah, remember the doom and gloom from (NMP) Obama? From his silly press conference yesterday

(NBC News) “This is not going to be an apocalypse, I think as some people have said. It’s just dumb. And it’s going to hurt. It’s going to hurt individual people, and it’s going to hurt the economy overall,” he concluded.

This was during his jedi mindmeld and “I’m not a crook, er, dictator” PC, which everyone focused on. Of course, he’s turned right around and said we’re doooooooooomed during his weekly address and did his typical blamestorming as leader of the Democrat party and PINO (POTUS In Name Only)

(The Hill) In his weekly address on Saturday, Obama said the $85 billion sequester went into effect late Friday because congressional Republicans refused to compromise.

It’s rather hard to compromise when your opponent is constantly demonizing and insulting you. It’s even harder to compromise when Obama can’t be bothered to actually have discussions with Republicans. Heck, he barely discussed it with Democrat Congressional leaders.

Obama called the spending cuts unnecessary, adding that they are only happening because “Republicans in Congress chose this outcome over closing a single wasteful tax loophole that helps reduce the deficit.”

Still, he argued, there is a “caucus of common sense.”

“And I’m going to keep reaching out to them to fix this for good.”

Meaning he’s going to continue his Blamestorming leg of his Neverending Campaign.

The rest of the weekly address is just what you’d expect: blame, castigation, “fairness”, “excess spending in our tax code”, but never mentions actually reducing the amount Los Federales spend (I was unable to use the official White House transcript, as the page comes up with 404 not found error, much like Obama’s leadership and actual plan)

(WPTV) We all agree that it’s critical to cut unnecessary spending. But we can’t just cut our way to prosperity. It hasn’t worked in the past, and it won’t work today. It could slow down our recovery. It could weaken our economy. And it could cost us jobs – now, and in the future.

We sure haven’t been able to spend our way to prosperity. And cutting and balancing sure worked during the 1990’s. Perhaps he could mention what is “unnecessary”? We should start with everything that is considered “non-essential” during a government shutdown. How about ditching the $325,000 robotic squirrel and and $445,000 for a climate change musical that was considered (shocker) boring?

Here’s Cathy McMorris Rodgers with the GOP response

(CNN) Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a Republican from Washington state, countered, “This week, the president traveled 180 miles to Newport News, Virginia, instead of traveling one and a half miles to Senator Harry Reid’s office on Capitol Hill to negotiate a replacement of smarter spending cuts.” (snip)

“We can’t let Washington continue spending money it doesn’t have, especially when it’s taking that money straight from your wallets,” McMorris Rodgers said. “The problem here isn’t a lack of taxes. … Spending is the problem, which means cutting spending is the solution. It’s that simple.”

But, that’s what the Blamestormer-in-chief wants, unlimited spending power to remake America, and damned the future generations.

Good News! POTUS Who Wants Massive Gun Control Pardons Gun Offender

Yeah, remember this?

(Washington Examiner) “If you want to buy a gun — whether it’s from a licensed dealer or a private seller — you should at least have to show you are not a felon or somebody legally prohibited from buying one,” Obama said in January, adding that “We should get tougher on people who buy guns with the express purpose of turning around and selling them to criminals.  And we should severely punish anybody who helps them do this.”

Well, this is the guy Obama pardoned

Larry Wayne Thornton — Forsyth, Georgia.
Offense: Possession of an unregistered firearm; possession of a firearm without a serial number.
Sentence: Four years probation.

Also pardoned are people who committed wire fraud, theft, trafficking counterfeit goods, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and embezzlement. I wonder if he’ll pardon you when you’re guns are made illegal?

Obama During PC: I’m Not A Dictator

This comes after a whopping hour long meeting with the congressional leaders

(Fox) In response to reporter Jessica Yellin of CNN who jokingly asked why President Obama didn’t prevent lawmakers from “leaving the room” until a budget deal was reached instead of implementing sequestration cuts, the commander in chief responded by saying, “I am not a dictator; I’m the president.”

No, he’s a whiny ass wanna be dictator, a narcissist, and a jerk who blames everyone else. Sadly, over 50% of the voting public where duped by Obama.

PS: I forgot to mention petulant, nasty, vindictive, and mixes metaphors without his woobie, er, teleprompter handy.

Joe Romm Compares Cancer To Hotcoldwetdry

In Warmist world, everything is linked in one way or another to “climate change”. If it isn’t, they’ll create a link

The First Rule: Eat When You Can, Sleep When You Can, And Don’t Screw With The Climate!

My prognosis is very likely to be very good, despite the ominous sounding diagnosis — a small well-defined pancreatic neuro-endocrine tumor (PNET). Today, Thursday, I had surgery at Johns Hopkins to remove it. It wasn’t causing symptoms (that I’m aware of).

Well, I’m glad to hear that Joe got it taken care of. I hope you have a long life, Joe, keeping me and other climate realists amused with your brand of climahypocrisy and doom-saying.

There are many analogies between dealing with early stage climate change and dealing with early stage diseases, analogies I’ve often made myself. As you can imagine, I’ve thought of a few more in the last several weeks.

So one big difference between this PNET and global warming is that global warming is highly likely to be fatal to a livable climate and modern civilization if left untreated. Still, I think it safe to say  that most people would take it out, but then most people act considerably more risk averse toward worst-case scenarios in their own life than society is acting towards the business-as-usual scenario of  unrestricted emissions of greenhouse gas.

If only there was something Warmists could do, like making their own lives “carbon neutral”…..say, I wonder how big the carbon footprint is for that hospital and for the surgery?

Indeed, if you use Google you can find the unofficial first rule for surgeons is, “Eat when you can, sleep when you can, and don’t f@ck with the pancreas!”

And, with a one-word change, that will eventually be the rule for humanity. The sooner, the better.

Hmm, if that’s the case, then Warmists should stop making recommendations to enact policies that will change the climate.

Say, Why Doesn’t America Have Any Off-shore Wind Farms?

Surprising, Mother Jones’ Tim McDonnell never mentions how Democrats, especially the late Ted Kennedy and current Secretary of Climate Change, er, State, John Kerry worked hard to block the Cape Wind project

(Mother Jones) Despite massive growth of the offshore wind industry in Europe, a blossoming array of land-based wind turbines stateside, and plenty of wind to spare, the United States has yet to sink even one turbine in the ocean. Not exactly the kind of leadership on renewables President Obama called for in his recent State of the Union address.

That’s funny. Tim used leadership and Obama in the same sentence. This is the same guy who flies across the country and back to make a 30 minute speech, which involves taking two giant planes and heavy fossil fueled limo, plus all the cars in the motorcade.

Anyhow, he gives four reasons, the first of which is that the wind industry cannot survive without government bucks

That’s especially a problem for offshore wind, says Thierry Aelens, an executive with German developer RWE. Higher construction and transmission costs make electricity from offshore over twice the price of onshore in the United States, he says, a tough pill for state regulators and utility operators to swallow, especially given the low cost of natural gas made possible by fracking. Today renewables startups rely heavily on private investment to get off the ground, but the industry needs better financial backing from the feds to help it compete with fossil fuels, Aelens says. “Germany is a fully subsidized system. Which technology get supported is fully in the hands of the government.”

So, wind energy is already super duper expensive, and would be even more expensive from off-shore, and without massive subsidies it can’t survive.

2. Blowback from “stakeholders”: Whale and bird lovers. Defenders of tribal lands. Fishermen. The Koch brothers. Since it was proposed in 2001, Cape Wind, a wind farm whose backers say could provide 75 percent of Cape Cod’s energy needs, has been run through a bewildering gauntlet of opponents and fought off more than a dozen lawsuits on everything from boat traffic interference to desecration of sacred sites to harming avian and marine life.

Interesting. The Koch brothers are mentioned (and, yes, they have provided funds to some who are protesting Cape Wind) but not Ted Kennedy, who did all he could to block the project because the turbines would be visible from the Kennedy compound. Super enviro-weenie Joseph Kennedy, Jr, says he supports offshore wind projects, just not where he can see them.

Anyhow, number 3 is that the US has no ships that can handle installing offshore wind turbines.

Number 4 is that states and feds butt heads, and big government fascists, er, progressives are really upset that the Federal Government can’t just MAKE things happen.

What’s missing is that over time we’ve learned that the electricity from Cape Wind is going to be quite a bit more expensive than originally proposed, and will increase the costs for the islands who would receive the electricity. It can also reduce property values, hurt tourism, and cost jobs. Some say this is BS, people will get used to them. Alas, when you look at places with wind turbines, residents have lost a lot in property value (can be as much as 40%). They complain about views of turbines on land, such as in the UK and Oregon, which have residents who aren’t happy about seeing these tall turbines blighting the landscape.

And then there is the notion that so many enviros/Warmists say they love the thought of wind power, but do not want these projects to actually be built. Especially where they can see them.

Sequestration Starts: World Has Yet To End

And the media is still spinning as to what the “cuts” really are. Either that or they are just partisan fools

(The Hill) Nineteen months after it was put into place, the sequester has arrived.

Barring unexpected developments, President Obama will issue an order at some point on Friday — perhaps as late as 11:59 p.m. — cancelling some $85 billion in spending across the federal government.

Said spending is simply a reduction in the size of spending increase for the next fiscal year. For the most part, federal agencies will still have the exact same amount of money they saw for the current fiscal year.

Obama is scheduled to host congressional leaders at the White House on Friday, but few expect that meeting to spark progress on undoing the cuts that both sides have bemoaned as foolish.

“I think it’s probably going to take awhile before there’s a real meeting,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said on Thursday. “I would look at tomorrow as a photo op — I really would. And I don’t know of anybody who’s viewing it differently at this point.”

Expect today’s meeting to be Obama speaking forcefully, castigating Republicans, demanding tax increases, continuing his permanent campaign. What we won’t see is any attempt to reach across the aisle.

Over in the Senate, competing Republican and Democrat sequester replacement bills were killed. In the House, John Boehner is continuing to say that they’ve already voted and passed two replacement plans, so, now it’s up to the Democrat controlled Senate.

(The Hill) Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), a member of the Finance Committee, predicted sequestration would last through the end of the year.

“Are we going to roll back the size of the cuts? No. I can promise you that,” said Burr.

Well, we’ll see if Republicans cave at some point or if they find some cajones for the long term.

Over at the Washington Post, Glenn Kessler fact checks the Obama admin/Democrat spin on Meals On Wheels seeing massive cuts, leaving seniors starving to death while losing 4 million meals a year due to Sequestration

The administration may rue the day that it issued so many scary statistics with such specificity. If sequestration remains in effect for the rest of the fiscal year, reporters will certainly attempt to check whether the administration’s predictions came close to reality.

In the case of meals for seniors, the administration did not even bother with the usual “as much as” modifier. It simply asserted that 4 million meals will disappear. Given that federal funding is just one third of the funding source, and the 4-million figure represents a relatively small part of the program, it is hard at this point to justify such specificity.

Kessler gives the spin 2 Pinocchios.

Really, though, this is all about reducing the rate of growth. The federal government needs to make serious, real cuts to the federal budget. We could save hundreds of billions by changing the way federal agencies contract out, refusing to pay for cost over-runs. The Pentagon alone could save over $200 billion a year by doing this. We could stop wasting money on duplication and redundancy. We could stop wasting taxpayer money to upgrade baseball spring training facilities and investigations into what we can learn from fish about Democracy. Consider this waste list from 2010, which is certainly not unusual. Change the allocation system so that agencies are rewarded for saving money, instead of being rewarded for spending it all, which usually results in surplus, overpayment, and waste.

Club For Growth Targets Renee Ellmers

Wait, Tea Party darling Renee Ellmers? Yes

(Washington Times) The fiscally conservative Club for Growth launched a new website Wednesday dedicated to holding congressional RINOs — “Republicans in Name Only” — accountable for what the group calls abandoning the principles of economic freedom and limited government.

The website, www.PrimaryMyCongressman.com, highlights districts where 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney won more than 60 percent of the vote, but the incumbent GOP congressman racked up a lifetime rating of less than 70 percent on the Club’s Congressional Scorecard.

“Big-government liberals inhabit the Democratic Party, but they are far too common within the Republican Party as well,” said Chris Chocola, the group’s president. “The Republicans helped pass billions of dollars in tax increases and they have repeatedly voted against efforts by fiscal conservatives to limit government.”

Ellmers has a lifetime rating of 66%, and she is on the list to primary. This is the problem: Conservatives send people to Washington who are supposedly Conservatives, then they end up voting squishy Republican and/or with far left Democrats. She’s certainly not the lowest, their are plenty more Republicans who are much lower (Christopher Smith from NJ is dead last at 40%), but we expect Tea Party electees to act like it.
