Happy Sunday! Another fantastic day to remember the dream that was the freedom loving nation of the USA. This pinup is by, it looks like, Gil Elvgren, with a wee bit of help.
What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check outwhat I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.
The posts do take a long time, so, if you want to send me your links for Rule 5 babeage or links, use ye olde email in the header bar (remove the NOSPAM part). Preferably, create the html link so I can copy and paste how you want it to read.

It’s rare that I somewhat find myself agreeing with far left liberals on an issue, but this op-ed piece by Jeremi Suri is absurd
Bomb North Korea, Before It’s Too Late
The Korean crisis has now become a strategic threat to America’s core national interests. The best option is to destroy the North Korean missile on the ground before it is launched. The United States should use a precise airstrike to render the missile and its mobile launcher inoperable.
President Obama should state clearly and forthrightly that this is an act of self-defense in response to explicit threats from North Korea and clear evidence of a prepared weapon. He should give the leaders of South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan advance notice before acting. And he should explain that this is a limited defensive strike on a military target — an operation that poses no threat to civilians — and that America does not intend to bring about regime change. The purpose is to neutralize a clear and present danger. That is all.
Lots of yammer after that. Let’s skip to the end
Destroying the North Korean missile before it is launched is the best of bad options on the Korean Peninsula. A prolonged crisis would undermine regional security and global efforts to stop nuclear proliferation. And a future war would be much worse. The most prudent move is to eliminate the most imminent military threat in self-defense, establish clear and reasonable limits on future belligerence, and maintain allied unity for stability — not forced regime change — in the region. This is the kind of pre-emptive action that would save lives and maybe even preserve the uneasy peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Lefties like the Booman Tribune, Political Animal, and Lawyers, Guns, and Money attack Suri himself, and forgot to delve into how insane this policy would be. Here’s Booman
My proposal is to load Jeremi Suri in a missile and launch him into the Pacific Ocean. There he can drown. And we can lose the life of one culpable moron instead of the lives of an incalculable number of innocent people who never recommended starting a war with a nuclear-armed country backed by an even better nuclear-armed country.
If Jeremi Suri is allowed to live it will be an act of mercy. But he should then be forced to wear a Depend Adult Undergarment at all times for the rest of his life.
Hmm, advocating life threatening situations simply because Suri espoused an opinion? How tolerant. What I find myself agreeing with the Liberals on is that this is a monumentally stupid idea. You have a relatively new leader in North Korea, and we all know how mentally stable North Korean leaders have been. You have a country with biological, chemical, and nerve weapons, and most likely nuclear weapons (though not necessarily good ones). You have a country with a big, strong military with lots of conventional weapons, and, unlike Iraq, they seem to take care of their weapons and machines (trucks, planes, etc.) The Korean People’s Army, when you include the active, reserve, and paramilitary, is the largest on earth, comprising 40% of the North Korean citizenry. They have lots and lots of short range rockets easily capable of traveling 40-50 miles or more.
Why is that important? The capital of South Korea, Seoul, is a mere 35 miles south of the DMZ. A city of over 11 million people, plus all those in the surrounding countryside. If there was a precision attack on said missile launcher, what would Kim Jong-un do? Are we willing to take the chance of Seoul being attack with possible WMDs along with lots of conventional weapons? There may come a time when it is necessary to take military action, but this is not it.

I bet you’re utterly shocked that alcohol was involved
(NJ.com) It’s not a pink Barbie truck, but it’s pretty close.
A Plainfield man was arrested Thursday night after, police say, he drunkenly stole a child’s pink motorized “Trail Princess” quad, drove it down the front porch stairs and startled everyone in the home.

Doooooooom!
(Grist) Following a tempestuous 2012, another torrent of hurricanes and superstorms is forecast to crash into the Atlantic coastline this year.
Um, we had Superstorm Sandy, the first big superstorm (which was not a hurricane when it made landfall on the US east coast) since 1991. We had one just barely a hurricane (it can be argued Isaac wasn’t at landfall). There have been no major hurricane landfalls on the US since late 2005, and Isaac was really the first hurricane since 2008. There were only a few tropical systems that even made landfall, or did more than provide some slightly rough seas. That’s “tempestuous”, and what Grist calls “wild” in the headline, apparently. A lower than average season. Which is probably due to “climate change” or something. The link to
From USA Today: Top forecasters predict an above-average 2013 Atlantic hurricane season, with 18 tropical storms forecast, of which nine will be hurricanes.
This comes on the heels of a less-than-stellar forecast in 2012, when nearly twice as many storms formed as had been predicted.
A typical year, based on weather records that go back to 1950, has 12 tropical storms, of which seven are hurricanes. A tropical storm has sustained winds of 39 mph; it becomes a hurricane when its winds reach 74 mph.
One of the great things in these modern days is the ability to see storms that would have been missed in the past, like with satellites and modern shipping.
You have the Weather Channel predicting 16 storms, 9 named, and 5 major. Then we get this
With the Atlantic expected to churn up so many storms this season, it’s highly likely that at least one of them will make landfall in the U.S. From the New Orleans Times-Picayune:
[Klotzbach and Gray]Â say there is a 96 percent chance of a hurricane hitting somewhere along the U.S. coast, compared to a long-term average of 84 percent, and an 80 percent chance of a hurricane hitting somewhere along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, compared to the long-term average of 60 percent.
So be ready to batten down the hatches, East Coast. Another wild summer may soon be upon us.
Does anyone else get the feeling that Warmists are really, really, really hoping for a devastating hurricane season, the first since 2005, in order to push their Cult? Remember, they were saying that AGW would cause lots and lots more landfalling hurricanes. Well, that prognostication died after 2005. Then they said there wouldn’t necessarily be more, but they would be more powerful. Well, that died, too. If this year is slow one for landfalls, I’ll put on my Madam Zelda hat and say that the Climate Astrologers will blame “climate change” and come out with all sorts of “studies” to prove it in retrospect. Because hurricanes only started when man made the combustion engine or somethin.
No, seriously (via Climate Depot)
(Guardian) “Blood and sperm. The perfect mix,” says a tattooed hippy, as he licks both off his hands, having just had sex with a woman in front of a small audience in a Berlin basement. “Life-giving fluids we are all so afraid of. We’re so afraid of ourselves! It’s all organic.” It’s not everyone’s idea of popular entertainment, but this scene can be experienced at a safe distance in a new documentary, F*ck for Forest, detailing the activities of the group of the same name (without the asterisk). They enjoy confronting society with sex, nudity and bodily fluids, but what Fuck for Forest (FFF) really want to do is save the world. So this isn’t just pervy performance art; it’s also fundraising.
Few people would imagine any overlap exists between pornography and environmentalism, but FFF smash the two concepts together right there in their brutally blunt name. It’s a concise signifier of what they do and how little they care about what you think of it. The live displays are a sideline; funds are primarily raised via their website, which has images and videos of its core staff members and whatever volunteers they pick up on the street in myriad sexual permutations, from naked people up trees to chaotic orgies. Subscribers pay about £10 a month, and the proceeds go towards rainforest conservation projects in South America.
It’s difficult to know how to categorise such an enterprise. Is it kinky eco-activism? Porn for foliage fetishists? Exhibitionism with the fig-leaf of a good cause? FFF have a better question: What is more obscene, they ask, the depiction of people enjoying their sexuality or the destruction of our natural environment?
I’m kinda torn here: are they doing good, or are they a bunch of nuts? On one hand, they kinda want people to live the same lives as the indigenous peoples in the rain forests and get a bit militant in their methods of nudity and sex (read the rest of the Guardian story). On the other hand, they are actually using the money they raise to protect the rainforests in South and Central America to the tune of around $130,000 a year. And, while they’re website doesn’t ever seem to mention “climate change”, they do live a rather austere lifestyle.
Just to be clear, according to their website (FYI, as you could imagine, it is NOT safe for work), they are much more than simply being eco-friendly. Things like “body normalization”, “free love”, and “to be sexual is not a crime” are featured.
So, which is worse, these FFFers who tend to actually care about the environment and do it with “pornography” or the Warmists and environmental groups who preach a lot and demand that you comply while they don’t?
Damned deniers and all their non-peer reviewed data, probably funded by Exxon and BP. Uber-climate astrologer Seth Borenstein brings us the 411
(Times Colonist) Last year’s huge drought was a freak of nature that wasn’t caused by man-made global warming, a new federal science study finds.
Scientists say the lack of moisture usually pushed up from the Gulf of Mexico was the main reason for the drought in the American heartland.
Thursday’s report by dozens of scientists from five different federal agencies looked into why forecasters didn’t see the drought coming. The researchers concluded that it was so unusual and unpredictable that it couldn’t have been forecast.
“This is one of those events that comes along once every couple hundreds of years,” said lead author Martin Hoerling, a research meteorologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “Climate change was not a significant part, if any, of the event.”
That’s weird: just last year Borenstein, the Associated Press’ resident climahysteric, blamed it on “climate change”. Even more strange, Seth forgets to mention that in the above article. But, don’t worry, he attempts say the report isn’t good.
Kevin Trenberth, climate analysis chief at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, a federally funded university-run research centre, said the report didn’t take into account the lack of snowfall in the Rockies the previous winter and how that affected overall moisture in the air. Nor did the study look at the how global warming exacerbated the high pressure system that kept the jet stream north and the rainfall away, he said.
“This was natural variability exacerbated by global warming,” Trenberth said in an email. “That is true of all such events from the Russian heat wave of 2010, to the drought and heat waves in Australia.”
What he means is that man-induced global warming (remember, just .08C increase since 1997 and .28F since 1990) is behind it, all because you drove and SUV and used hairspray. Warmists really, really, really hate science.
