Say, how’d all these believers in Hotcoldwetdry travel to Washington?
(Climate Progress) Tuesday marked the first time that individuals impacted by climate change had a chance to come before Congress and tell their stories, according to Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), who helped co-founded the Safe Climate Caucus. Six people with personal stories and one scientist spoke as part of Waxman’s 28-member group, formed this year to raise awareness about climate change and push back on Republican opposition to new environmental rules. (snip)
“We’re getting all the wrong weather at the wrong time,†Russell said. “July was the coldest ever in Iowa and now September is the hottest. We had the worst snowstorm in two years in May and now we’re back in drought. The joke in Iowa is what month will show up in October?â€
Um, OK. Greenhouse gases that “trap” heat made it cold and snowy? Probably because someone took a fossil fueled trip.
Hugh Fitzsimmons, a bison rancher and beekeeper from Texas spoke about the double impact of man-made climate change, resulting in drought, and the man-made water crisis caused by water used for hydraulic fracturing around his home near the Rio Grande. The devastating drought and heat of the summer of 2011 caused Fitzsimmons’s bison to give birth to only seven babies, rather than the usual 70 or more.
“Denial is not just a river in Egypt,†said Fitzsimmons. “In Texas oil and gas are exempt from water regulations and nobody will listen to you when you try to tell them what’s happening. It’s like the poet Gary Snyder said — nature bats last.â€
Did Fitzsimmons ride a bicycle or walk to Washington? It looks more like he’s not a very good farmer, unable to plan and execute when weather happens, and, like any good Liberal, blames Mankind (mostly Other People) for his faults.

If the science was so sound then they could stand up to a little scrutiny and debate
A “No Deniers Rule†for Solutions Companies (skipping all the way to the end)
If companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple refuse to give to Denier politicians and organizations like those laid out in our “Dealing in Doubt†report, then those people will quickly learn that if they want the support of America’s vanguard companies, they can’t be on the wrong side of climate history. No Deniers Allowed.
Then users and employers of Google, Facebook, and others would be able to stay proud of all that those companies have done for clean energy, without worrying that the companies are undermining that work by helping keep climate deniers like Inhofe in power.

Funny how the liberal trope of “separation of Church and State” disappears when left wing politics are in play, wouldn’t you say?
(Santa Monica Mirror) A local church hopes to make climate change easier to understand for people in and out of Santa Monica. With a little financial help from the City Council, the Church in Ocean Park might be taking one step closer to its goals.
At the request of Mayor Pro Tem Terry O’Day and Council members Ted Vazquez and Ted Winterer, Santa Monica’s elected panel approved a $5,000 allocation to the Church in Ocean Park last Tuesday to support its “California Climate Change Exchange,†or CCCX.
“It is an education program that broadens our understanding of climate change,†O’Day said.
Anyone want to take bets on whether they will provide a balanced view? The prices on the California carbon market collapsed (like they have around the world) and they’ve actually had to postpone/cancel auctions because so few companies were willing to purchase the carbon permits.

They can ask, but they won’t get it
(The Hill) Franchise restaurant owners have come to Washington seeking a change to ObamaCare that they say could prevent them from having to cut their employees’ hours.
The healthcare law requires large employers to provide insurance to employees who work at least 30 hours per week.
Franchise owners say the employer mandate threatens to erase their narrow profit margins and are telling lawmakers they need to overhaul the law before it’s too late.
“Employees won’t have the hours they need, and they won’t get employer-sponsored healthcare, either,†said Steve Caldeira, president and CEO of the International Franchise Association (IFA).
“[Franchisees] are dealing with high commodity costs, high energy prices, higher taxes from the ‘fiscal-cliff’ deal, and now they are trying to work through ObamaCare,†he said.
What they’re asking for is that the regulations be changed so that only people who work 40 hours or more be considered full time employees. The even have a website, 40hoursisfulltime.com, to push for the changes. Of course, it was the Department of Health and Human Services that deemed 30 hours to be full time amongst their 20,000+ pages of regulations. And pro-Obamacare lawmakers will not vote to increase the full-time hours, because they want people dumped from their company insurance plans and moved to government backed plans.
Nor do Obamacare backers care that workers hours are being cut, which means their earnings are lower: it’s all about putting the government in charge of as many people’s healthcare as possible and moving towards a single payer system.

By Doing Something, they mean “passing restrictive gun laws that won’t actually Do Something, and won’t stop mass shootings because criminals will Find A Way, and most of these shootings are by people who would never have passed a background check in the first place, or might possibly have passed all sorts of background checks which not only provided a big security clearance but also a concealed carry permit”
(Politico) Obama again hinted at his view that Congress must act to to help prevent future massacres, but offered no specifics and stopped short of promising a new White House campaign on that front.
“We are confronting yet another mass shooting — and today, it happened on a military installation in our nation’s capital,†the president said, as he pressed forward with a speech on the five-year anniversary of the economic crisis. “Obviously, we’re going to be investigating thoroughly what happened, as we do so many of these shootings, sadly, that have happened, and do everything that we can to try to prevent them.â€
Again, the shooting happened in a gun free zone. Dan Gross of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence wants the White House to push hard again for more restrictive gun control (which doesn’t work particularly well in Mr. Obama’s hometown of Chicago). We can be sure that Michael Bloomberg’s deep pocketed Mayors For Taking Guns Away From Legal Citizens Or At Least Making It Very Difficult For Law Abiding Citizens to Defend Themselves From Criminals will be out with an ad campaign.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) began a written statement Monday evening on the attack by mourning the dead and extending her “thoughts and prayers,†but she did not shy away from painting the Navy Yard shooting as more evidence of the need for gun legislation.
“This is one more event to add to the litany of massacres that occur when a deranged person or grievance killer is able to obtain multiple weapons—including a military-style assault rifle—and kill many people in a short amount of time,†Feinstein said.
If the person has so many issues, might they not find a way to commit mass murder regardless? How many people die due to alcohol every year? But, we do not ban, say, anything with a proof over 40%. We do not ban motor vehicles, despite all the deaths. Heck, Liberals want to hand driver’s licenses over to illegal aliens.
Expect all sorts of emotional opinion pieces and talking points (Eugene Robinson didn’t wait long) in the coming days with calls for Do Something that strangely seem to do nothing to stop criminals.

OK, I’m paraphrasing a bit
(Telegraph) Regardless of whether or not scientists are wrong on global warming, the European Union is pursuing the correct energy policies even if they lead to higher prices, Europe’s climate commissioner has said.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Europe’s most senior climate change official (Connie Hedegaard)Â argued that the current policies are the correct ones because a growing world population will put pressure on energy supplies regardless of the rate of global warming.
“I personally have a very pragmatic view.
“Say that 30 years from now, science came back and said, ‘wow, we were mistaken then now we have some new information so we think it is something else’. In a world with nine billion people, even 10 billion at the middle of this century, where literally billions of global citizens will still have to get out of poverty and enter the consuming middle classes, don’t you think that anyway it makes a lot of sense to get more energy and resource efficient,” she said.
Funny how all these policies tend to hurt way more than help, and, Connie is simply highlighting the notion that “climate change” is just a convenient excuse for implementing far left Progressive policies.
