Toys ‘R’ Us Goes Gender Neutral In Britain

Leftist busy-bodies just can’t help themselves

(Washington Times) Retail toy giant Toys “R” Us announced its United Kingdom stores would stop marketing items by gender and instead adopt the policies pushed by a parent-run campaign that asserts that girls and boys are interested in playing the same games.

Advertisements for the likes of guns and dolls and make-believe kitchenettes will target equally boys and girls, National Review Online reported. Toys “R” Us will also remove all gender references in its U.K. stores.

The head of the campaign Let Toys Be Toys — a parental coalition that believes play differences between boys and girls are largely created by advertisers and cultural pressures — expressed its satisfaction with the development.

“We’re delighted to be working so closely with a major toy retailer and believe there is much common ground here,” the group said in a press release. “Even in 2013, boys and girls are still growing up being told that certain toys are ‘for’ them, while others are not.”

Let’s face it, these “gender neutral” campaigns are not about empowering women and girls, but about hardcore feminists wanting to destroy those super-evil men and boys. Furthermore, this is all part of the Leftist method of destroying social mores in order to build a Progressive utopia. They often do this by getting the Government to come down hard on companies and people, as the government of Sweden did in an action against Toys R Us over “gender bias“. In order to completely change society, progressives feel they have to first destroy. Progressives are very intolerant.

Aussie Warmist Really Upset Over Democracy “While World Burns”

In the Barrington Tops, where my farm is, no one can remember spring coming quite so early, or being quite so hot. That our new prime minister will scrap the carbon tax is a sad irony

Awwww, poor little Jane Caro, she seems rather upset that the Australian people voted heavily for the Party that stated as their primary platform that the “carbon” tax would be sent to the scrap heap. This follows on the heals of the March 2012 Queensland elections, which were a complete blowout, seeing Labor lose so many seats that they were no longer a recognized political Party, all because of Labor passing the carbon tax law, which they had previously stated they would not do.

She spends most of the rest of her “opinion” piece whining about warmth and wild-fires and flood and drought, without bothering to provide any factual proof that it’s Mankind’s fault, nor noting that it’s weather, not climate (BTW, agriculture is really a much bigger producer of GHGs than fossil fueled vehicles), and ends with

According to leaked details from the most recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday, the world’s ice sheets are melting rapidly as the planet warms. Greenland’s ice added six times more to sea levels in the decade up to 2011 than in the previous 10 years and the Antarctic melt produced a five-fold increase.

But, hey, at least our new prime minister is going to honour all his promises – including repealing the carbon tax, whether its the right thing to do or not.

Wait, a politician honoring their promises? What a novel concept. Something Labor failed to do. But, yeah, Warmists are really upset over that democracy thing when they lose.

Politico Really Concerned That The GOP Isn’t In Favor Of Bombing Syria

Hawkish GOP taking dovish stance on Syria

Of all the unexpected turns in the Syria debate, one stands out most: The GOP, the party of a muscular national defense, has gone the way of the dove.

A decade after leading the country into Iraq and Afghanistan, Republicans have little appetite or energy for a strike aimed at punishing Bashar Assad for allegedly gassing his own people. To the contrary, many of the party’s lawmakers are lining up to sink President Barack Obama’s war authorization vote.

Of the 279 Republicans currently in the House and Senate, 83 were also serving in October 2002. All of them voted to give George W. Bush authorization to invade Iraq. Now, just 10 of those 83 have come out in support of striking Syria. Most of the others have expressed serious reservations or are leaning against voting for the authorization.

That the shift has many possible causes — the enormous toll of American lives and taxpayer dollars exacted by two faraway wars since 2001, the antagonism toward a Democratic president, the very different circumstances in Syria than Iraq — makes it no less remarkable. From the Vietnam War through the Cold War and into Afghanistan and Iraq, an aggressive foreign policy has been as much a part of the Republican Party’s identity as low taxes and opposition to abortion.

From there, Politico states that Syria really isn’t Iraq, but, hey, Republicans were all for that adventure, but must be big meanies for not wanting to engage in a super limited air strike on Syrian government property, with the targets having been leaked. I’m surprised that the raaaaacism meme didn’t rear its head.

But politics is also unquestionably at play. The GOP’s resistance has to do not just with the proposed mission but who’s leading the charge. Having Obama making the case instead of Bush, makes a difference.

Well, yeah, but not because Obama’s a Democrat, but because he’s a horrible Commander In Chief (among other things). How’d Libya work out? Not well. Not well at all. Syria has little to no impact on our national security, except in that Obama has made the U.S. look weaker. But, really, most world leaders understand that it’s Obama who is weak, not America. The GOP understands that the strikes will do virtually nothing.

But, notice that many of the memes in the media have been aimed at harming the GOP politically. Anyone want to bet that this is exactly what Obama wanted when he decided, at the last minute in a decision that surprised the heck out of all his advisers, to shuffle the responsibility over to Congress?

Scientists Say World Is Cooling

(UK Telegraph) There has been a 60 per cent increase in the amount of ocean covered with ice compared to this time last year, they equivalent of almost a million square miles.

The UK Daily Mail has a big article on this

In a rebound from 2012’s record low an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores, days before the annual re-freeze is even set to begin.

The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year, forcing some ships to change their routes.

A leaked report to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) seen by the Mail on Sunday, has led some scientists to claim that the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century.

If correct, it would contradict computer forecasts of imminent catastrophic warming. The news comes several years after it was predicted that the arctic would be ice-free by 2013.

Well, really, reality contradicts the computer models from the Warmists. Whether we are just in a pause or will move towards a) a slight cooling similar to the 1940’s through 1970’s, b) a flip to a cool period, as has been going on throughout the Holocene, or c) and actual glacial period remains to be seen. But what this all shows is that the Modern Warm Period, which started around the mid-1800’s, is mostly natural. Of course, Warmists won’t acknowledge natural variability, except as a way of trying to cover for the pause (though they still try hard to Blame Mankind for cold weather), yet they still fail to practice what they preach.

Will Obama Discuss All The Islamic Extremist Groups Operating In Syria When He Goes On TV?

Ahead of his supposed Big Speech on Tuesday night, President Nobel Peace Prize Who’s Making A Case For Going All Bomby will go on six programs

(Politico) Obama will tape interviews Monday afternoon with anchors from ABC, CBS and NBC, as well as with PBS, CNN and Fox News, the White House said.

The interviews will be conducted by ABC’s Diane Sawyer, CBS’s Scott Pelley, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Fox’s Chris Wallace, NBC’s Brian Williams and PBS’s Gwen Ifill.

Sawyer and Ifill will probably ask him how the new puppy is taking to life in the White House, Blitzer and Pelley will probably ask why Republicans are so racist that they won’t give Obama the power to bomb away, Williams is a wild card, but Wallace will surely ask the hard questions which cause Obama to “ah, um, and er” beyond normal, questions about things like this

(Fox News) Syrian activists say rebels including al-Qaida-linked fighters have gained control of the Christian village of Maaloula northeast of the capital Damascus.

The rebel advance into the area this week was reportedly spearheaded by the Jabhat al-Nusra, or Nusra Front, exacerbating fears among Syrians and religious minorities in particular about the role played by Islamic extremists within the rebel ranks.

Rami Abdurrahman of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Nusra Front backed by another group, the Qalamon Liberation Front, moved into the village after heavy clashes with the army late Saturday.

Perhaps Obama can also explain why kids were possibly killed in a “Nato led”, meaning U.S., airstrike in Afghanistan. And just how Obama will protect civilians when the Assad government has had plenty of time to embed their forces and military assets into civilian areas. Especially since there are conflicting reports as to the evidence which says that Assad forces used chemical weapons.

BTW, not all liberals seem to be super enthused about getting bomby on Syria. Crazy Alan Grayson is not convinced as to the evidence. Democrats in Congress are very much no sure thing to vote for intervention. And…

The president hasn’t won over liberal activist groups, either. The Associated Press reported late Saturday that MoveOn.org has spent “in the mid-five figures” to air a TV commercial urging Congress to oppose airstrikes against Syria. The 30-second ad, titled “Not Again,” says the U.S. didn’t set out to spend eight years at war in Iraq and a decade in Afghanistan and predicts the same thing will happen if Congress approves Obama’s desired military action in Syria.

Well, if MoveOn is opposing action, perhaps airstrikes are actually the right thing to do. Oh, and

On Friday, French President Francois Hollande qualified his country’s support, saying the country would wait for the U.N. report before deciding to intervene militarily.

So, it looks like France is backing away at this point. But, like many countries

The official also said the list of countries that signed the EU agreement shows broad international support for the U.S. even if the countries don’t participate operationally and that the statement includes everything the White House wanted.

So, all those countries are willing to be cheerleaders for President McBombypants, but won’t lift a finger to help. Perhaps they also see that the civil war in Syria has become Assad versus Islamic extremists, groups linked to the same one which perpetrated 9/11 and other atrocities and hold the same extremist values.

Majuro Declaration Calls For Everyone To Stop Breathing

(Guardian) Australia, New Zealand and the heads of state of 13 other Pacific states this week called for the phase-out of greenhouse gas pollution and acknowledged current efforts to tackle climate change are insufficient.

The Majuro declaration for Climate Leadership is surprisingly strong considering these types of documents are usually intent on satisfying the least ambitious parties – Australia and New Zealand, in this case. But the text, adopted at the 44th Pacific Island Forum, appeals for urgent action, commits all signatories to be “climate leaders” and calls for an energy revolution.

I wouldn’t count on Australia being involved, since the Labor Party just lost power.

For me, two things stand out in particular.

First, the declaration explicitly recognises the need for a complete “phase down” of greenhouse gas emissions. Not “x% emissions by date y” – the sort of language that is important from a scientific perspective but has little meaning for the general public. The idea of a phase down makes clear that in the long run we need to eliminate greenhouse gas pollution altogether.

Which means we have to immediately abandon all uses of fossil fuels…say, how will the people get home from the conference, held in the Marshall Islands? Anyhow, the author, Kelly Riggs, says we have to do away with all fossil fuels use and investment to stop evil greenhouse gas pollution

I’ve been in Majuro throughout the forum proceedings, and have explored the streets, spoken to residents and walked the eroding beaches myself. It was a powerful experience to see what it means to live on the front lines of climate change.

She goes on to note how an island could be disappearing into the sea, which apparently never happened, and I blame her for it, unless she swam there. But, unfortunately for her talking points, sea rise in the Marshall Islands is barely existent.
