Obamacare Ads Go Slutty

Obviously, I’m going to be accused of “slut shaming”. Maybe I should have used the word “skank”, having stolen this from Black and Right

(Yahoo News) From the folks who brought you the “brosurance” campaign that promotes the affordable care act comes a new line of ads aimed at reminding young women the new law will subsidize their birth control.

The online ads were created by two nonprofit groups, the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative and Progress Now, to encourage young people to enroll in the exchanges.

Seriously, it has come to this

Well, at least this isn’t funded by the government. Directly. Progress Now is a typical far left Progressive organization, with big funding from George Soros and other lefties (link opens up document. It’s safe. I opened it myself), along with lots of links to other progressive groups. CCHI is similarly far left.

There are more ads at the Yahoo News link. Which break down women into the category of sluts who need Someone Else to pay for their contraception.

BTW, the ad campaign is called “hoeinsurance”, to go along with “broinsurance”. CCHI removed those references from their website. All the adds are available here.

More: I was about to crosspost this at Right Wing News, then notice that there is a link to Michelle Malkin’s column regarding bro’s and hoe’s.

  • The Lonely Conservative: Hey Girls, Let Obamacare Bring Out Your Inner Hussie!
  • DaTechGuy: Because nothing says “empowering women” more than a Government program aiding them in getting hookups with strange men.
  • The Hayride notes that lots of the ads are rather “boozy”.
  • The First Street Journal links, and notices the failure of leadership and ducking of responsibility by Obama for his signature legislation.
  • Sister Toldjah notices the ad in context of national birth control day. If only all Liberals would always use birth control at all times during their child bearing years. Better yet, they should all get those free sterilizations offered by O-care. “Bros and hoes” both, just to make sure.

50,000 Poles Protest Against UN “Climate Change” Conference

I know, I know, you’re not hearing much about COP19 in Warsaw, Poland. Neither the American or international press are giving it much coverage. But lots of Polish people were happy to demonstrate against the Big Government notions of the United Nations

(CFACT) As more than 50,000 enthusiastic Poles gathered in downtown Warsaw on Monday to celebrate National Independence Day, with millions more watching on live television, CFACT president David Rothbard was invited to the stage to deliver an impassioned address celebrating freedom and warning against the dangerous and oppressive climate agenda of the UN.

Before what was one of the largest audiences to ever hear a speech denouncing UN global warming policies, Rothbard said he was honored to stand with the Poles in a “new battle for freedom against those who would use environmental and climate alarmism to steal away our liberties and give international bureaucrats control over our energy sources, our daily lives, our prosperity, and our national sovereignty.”

The address was carried live on national television and covered by a large number of international media outlets. It took place just as the UN was kicking off its COP19 climate conference a few kilometers away.

Rothbard noted that at last year’s COP meeting, UN climate chief Christiana Figueres said that what the UN was undertaking is “a complete economic transformation of the world.”

A big part of COP19 is supposed to be a push against the use of coal for energy. Poland uses quite a bit of coal, particularly since they have brutal winters. The Polish people also know “socialism” and authoritarian government when they see it, and that’s what “climate change” is really about, bigger and bigger Big Government with more and more control over the lives of individuals, families, and the private sector.

Ahead Of Pitiful Enrollment Numbers, White House Cranks Up The Spin Machine

One thing we can always depend on from Team O and Democrats is that they never let reality get in the way of spin, and their Obamacare spin has typically made Baghdad Bob smile. Seriously, this Healthcare Tara thing is creepy. And now they’re turning it up a bit more

(Politico) One thing we know: The first Obamacare sign-up numbers will be disappointing.

Another thing we know: The White House isn’t waiting to put its spin on things. Administration officials have been lowering expectations since before sign-up began Oct. 1, urging reporters not to make a big fuss over the initial enrollment numbers.

But after the website debacle, the bad press of people losing their health plans and President Barack Obama’s defense and then walk-back of his “if you like your plan, you can keep it” slogan, the White House has a tougher job on its hands. There’s essentially no avoiding a bad news cycle, but there are ways to mitigate the damage.

The first bit of spin we’ll be hearing is that only 123 people signed up for Romneycare during its first month of being live. Of course, the pool of people looking to sign up, ie, uninsured, was much, much smaller. Nor were there lots and lots of people losing their health insurance. Romneycare didn’t include provisions that caused the loss of insurance, unlike Obamacare. Let’s also not forget that Team O were pushing for 500k in the first month. Furthermore, they initially stated that healthcare.gov was experiencing trouble do to heavy web traffic. Dems and Team O will also note that enrollments would be higher if only that website worked.

The third is typical misdirection

3. If only Republicans would cooperate

It sure is hard to roll out a national entitlement program when half the country’s politicians are actively trying to stop it.

Yes, they will attempt to Blame Republicans for failing to help out.

They’ll also note that Bush did it too, or something, with his Medicare Part D legislation. You know, because that’s totally the same.

Finally, they’ll push their “it’ll get better meme”

This is the running theme for the White House. The website is being fixed. People thrown out of health insurance plans will get better and cheaper ones. A host of new consumer-friendly rules are good for women and the chronically ill.

If only people knew the benefits of Obamacare, Obama told an Organizing for Action summit last week, the law would be more popular.

Except, this has been law for over three years, and people are not liking it better. The cancellations are rolling out week by week, and wait till the time comes when businesses are getting cancelled. Technically, my plan is being cancelled, though I won’t get a notification since I work for a big company. We get a choice of 3 plans for the enrollment period. But we do not know what the costs are yet. We haven’t even gotten to the point of discussing the loss of doctors, the limitation of doctors and medical facilities, and the long, long wait lines. Then the denial of service. The exploding costs. And many more problems.

Bummer: NC’s Kay Hagan Learning There Are Consequences For Votes

Namely, her vote for and support of the “Affordable” Care Act…well, until she realized that it was hurting her. And the pain keeps a comin’!

(Politico) Incumbent Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) is near the top of national Republicans’ target list for 2014 — and a new poll shows her lead over her potential GOP challengers has all but evaporated.

Against state House Speaker Thom Tillis, Hagan leads by only 2 points, 44 percent to 42 percent, according to the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling. She leads the Rev. Mark Harris by 2 points as well, 43 percent to 41 percent, and nurse Heather Grant by 3 points, 43 percent to 40 percent.

Hagan trails physician Greg Brannon, the Rand Paul-endorsed candidate in the race, by 1 point: He leads 44 percent to 43 percent.

And think, the GOP representative to run for that seat hasn’t even been picked yet. And whoever that will be hasn’t had a chance to grill Hagan on Obamacare. Oh, and the pain of people seeing their health insurance plans cancelled hasn’t even hit in North Carolina yet.

Surprise: Ethonal Creates Environmental Problems

Can I color you shocked? Actually, I’m shocked that the Associated Press allowed this story to be published, and that WRAL here in Raleigh picked it up (but quickly buried it in the archives)

The secret, dirty cost of Obama’s green power push

The hills of southern Iowa bear the scars of America’s push for green energy: The brown gashes where rain has washed away the soil. The polluted streams that dump fertilizer into the water supply.

Even the cemetery that disappeared like an apparition into a cornfield.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

With the Iowa political caucuses on the horizon in 2007, presidential candidate Barack Obama made homegrown corn a centerpiece of his plan to slow global warming. When President George W. Bush signed a law that year requiring oil companies to add billions of gallons of ethanol to their gasoline each year, Bush predicted it would make the country “stronger, cleaner and more secure.”

But the ethanol era has proven far more damaging to the environment than politicians promised and much worse than the government admits today.

True, it is not entirely fair to blame all of this on Obama, as the headline proposes. Bush pushed it, as did Clinton, Bush 41, along with a host of politicians in both parties. Much of the article aims at Obama, who is a big supporter of this boondoggle. Hey, he’s president now. But, the blame should not rest on his shoulders only

As farmers rushed to find new places to plant corn, they wiped out millions of acres of conservation land, destroyed habitat and contaminated water supplies, an Associated Press investigation found.

Five million acres of land set aside for conservation — more than Yellowstone, Everglades and Yosemite National Parks combined — have been converted on Obama’s watch.

Wetlands have been destroyed, along with prairies and woodland areas, all in an attempt to plant corn to use as fuel, which even the NY Times noted a few years ago was a Bad Idea. Creating ethanol uses huge amounts of water, contributing to drought and the loss of aquifers, ponds, etc. You end up with even more pesticides and fertilizers leaching into surrounding areas and down stream. You can end up with giant amounts of nitrates in the soil and water, causing health problems. And using corn drives up the price of corn, which drives up the price of other foods. Same with soy.

And it does great damage to the real environment, not that silly “climate change” crap.

The Nation Declares Typhoon Haiyan Caused By “Climate Change”

Of course, they don’t put “climate change” in quotation marks like I do

Yes, Typhoon Haiyan Was Caused by Climate Change

This article is a joint publication of TheNation.com and Foreign Policy In Focus.

It seems these days that whenever Mother Nature wants to send an urgent message to humankind, it sends it via the Philippines. This year the messenger was Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Yolanda.

For the second year in a row, the world’s strongest typhoon barreled through the Philippines, Yolanda following on the footsteps steps of Pablo, a k a Bopha, in 2012. And for the third year in a row, a destructive storm deviated from the usual path taken by typhoons, striking communities that had not learned to live with these fearsome weather events because they were seldom hit by them in the past. Sendong in December 2011 and Bopha last year sliced Mindanao horizontally, while Yolanda drove through the Visayas, also in a horizontal direction.

That it was climate change creating the super typhoons that were taking weird directions was a message from Nature not just to Filipinos but to the whole world, whose attention was transfixed on the televised digital images of a massive, angry cyclone bearing down, then sweeping across the central Philippines on its way to the Asian mainland. The message that Nature was sending via Yolanda–which packed winds stronger than Superstorm Sandy, which hit New Jersey and New York last October, and Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005–was especially meant for the governments of the world that are assembling in Warsaw for the annual global climate change negotiations (COP 19), beginning on November 11.

Obviously, bad weather never happened before the combustion engine using fossil fuels. And weather that did occur was completely predictable and reliable.

Is it a coincidence, ask some people who are not exactly religious, that both Pablo and Yolanda arrived at the time of the global climate negotiations? Pablo smashed into Mindanao during the last stages of the Conference of Parties (COP 18), in Doha last year.

Why does the word “witchcraft” scroll through my brain? Also, anthropomorphizing the storms and the mostly natural weather of the Earth.

Anyhow, the majority of deadly cyclones occurred when CO2 was at the safe level of 350ppm or less. It was completely predictable that Warmists would go off the reservation over Haiyan/Yolanda, and they’ll probably pimp this meme for months, just like with Sandy (which wasn’t a hurricane at landfall, and was made worse by a big cold-front).

Say, What Defines Success For Obamacare?

That’s something The Politico’s David Nather asks

Democrats have a general idea of what it would take to put the Obamacare rollout back on track. Fix the damn website, they say, and most of the other problems will take care of themselves.

But will they? The problem is that neither the administration or the House and Senate yoked to it can describe a threshold for when the public will view the health law as on the way to recovery.

What does the moment of success look like? Democrats aren’t quite sure – which makes party faithful up for re-election in 2014 increasingly nervous and makes the White House’s ability to set realistic expectations exceedingly difficult.

Most Democrats insist that the main path to recovery is as easy as fixing the website. That’s the line even from the Senate Democrats who bent Obama’s ear at the White House last week about the rollout. They just can’t give any concrete suggestions on what else it would take — which is why most of them sound like the old Saturday Night Live “fix it” guy: “Identify a problem, FIX IT. Identify another problem, FIX IT!”

Democrats and Team Obama think that fixing the website will enable the Unicorn Of Awesomeness to run free, and then the “Affordable” Care Act will be a rousing success. Yet, the website, working correctly or not, is simply the portal to people obtaining Government Approved health insurance. In order to be successful, it would

  • make sure that the majority of the 30-45 million Americans without insurance obtained insurance, like was used as a talking point prior to passage
  • Is revenue neutral, as Democrats stated
  • Is providing quality health care
  • Bends the curve down on rising health insurance and care costs
  • Doesn’t get in the way of decisions between you and your doctor (death panels, government mandates)
  • Are those who are sicker making up the vast number of enrollees
  • Lowers premiums up to $2500 for families, as Obama and other Dems repeatedly stated
  • Makes it easy and inexpensive for those with pre-existing conditions to obtain affordable coverage
  • Companies aren’t dumping their health insurance plans
  • Companies aren’t shifting people to part-time work
  • You aren’t losing your doctor
  • You aren’t losing the plan you like

Well, since many of those have already been broken, it’s exactly the success Conservatives said it would be. For Progressives, the #1 measure is “how much power has government taken for themselves when it comes to people’s health decisions?” Also, “how much closer to single payer are we?” Of course, most of these folks didn’t think that the law would effect themselves. Surprise!

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that the initial numbers should show 40k-50k enrollments. The Washington Post is saying 40,0000. Sarah Kliff, who has mostly been on the cheerleader side, wonders who counts as an enrollee

When the Obama administration releases health law enrollment figures later this week, though, it will use a more expansive definition. It will count people who have purchased a plan as well as  those who have a plan sitting in their online shopping cart but have not yet paid.

“In the data that will be released this week, ‘enrollment’ will measure people who have filled out an application and selected a qualified health plan in the marketplace,” said an administration official, who requested anonymity to frankly describe the methodology.

So, if you are cruising Best Buy’s website and “add to shopping cart to see price”, according to Team Obama that would mean you purchased that product. Even if you haven’t paid for it. If you download a free preview of a book from Amazon, that means you bought the book. Though you haven’t paid a dime. If you are on Rotten Tomatoes and say that you want to see this movie, the studio can report you as having seen it, though you haven’t paid.

I suspect the actual paid enrollments are so low that they don’t dare release the numbers.

Cary, NC Resident Charged With Attempt To Aid Syrian Terrorist Group

Remember, this is just an isolated incident, it’s not part of a wider problem

(News and Observer) A Cary man is facing a federal charge that he attempted to aid a foreign terrorist organization, according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI in federal court last week.

Basit Javed Sheikh of Cary is suspected by the FBI of trying to provide support to the Nusra Front that is fighting in Syria’s civil war. His father, Javed Sheikh, said on Monday there “is no truth in that,” referring to the federal allegations.

But a federal grand jury in Raleigh believed there was enough evidence to indict Basit Sheikh to stand trial for the charges. He was being held by Wake County authorities on Monday, according to county records.

Law enforcement intercepted Basit Sheikh on Nov. 2 at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, an FBI affidavit states. He had told a confidential FBI source that he wanted to join the jihad, or holy struggle, in Syria, according to an agent’s affidavit. He said in August that he had secured a job “with a brigade in logistics, managing medical supplies,” the document states.

Cary is on the other side of Raleigh, where I live.

He’s also a “legal permanent resident” of the US. Why do we even have that class? Should there not be 3 classes, short term visitors, temporary workers (Sheikh supposedly worked at the post office, but there are no records of that) who need to leave after a few years, depending on the work visa length, and citizens/those trying for citizenship? Why would we want people who are permanent residents but want no part of becoming a US citizen? Anyhow, back to the story

Thomas Walker, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, which includes Wake County, stressed Monday that “this is an indictment for an individual for individual conduct, and should in no way be seen as a charge against anyone else.”

Khalilah Sabra, director of Immigration and Civil Rights at the Muslim American Public Affairs Council, confirmed Monday that federal agents had reached out to Muslims in the Triangle to try to foster a new mutual understanding, and to talk about the U.S. State Department’s list of suspected terror groups.

“From what I understand about the most recent case, it is an isolated incident,” Sabra said Monday.

While it is certainly true that the indictment is for This Guy, the inclusion of those two quote is purposeful, meant to propagate the “lone wolf” meme, the “hey, really, this is just some single crazy guy,” that it has nothing to do with the fact that the majority of terrorist attacks around the world and people arrested on terrorism charges are practitioners of the Religion Of Peace.

That’s not to say that all, or even most, Muslims are terrorists/attempted terrorists, that they that all give aid and comfort to the hard cores groups, but that there are more than enough to say “yeah, there’s a problem”. If the media see one guy or gal carrying a rebel flag, well, then, that means that the entire Tea Party/Conservative/Republican movement is raaaaacist. The entire group is indicted for the actions or speech of a few or one.

The photo comes via The Jawa Report, which found it on a November 2 Facebook post. Make sure to read what else Rusty writes.
