Good question: why are you debating that we’re debating “climate change” if it is settled science, Ms. Carol Costello?

(CNN) There is no debate.

Climate change is real. And, yes, we are, in part, to blame.

There is a 97% consensus among scientific experts that humans are causing global warming. Ninety-seven percent!

Goodness! “Ninety-seven percent!!!!!!!!!!!!” Which has been entirely shredded. And consensus is not science.

Yet some very vocal Americans continue to debate what is surely fact.

The question is, why?

Trust certainly plays a part.

According to Gordon Gauchat, an associate professor of sociology from the University of Wisconsin, just 42% of adults in the U.S. have a great deal of confidence (PDF) in the scientific community.

Well, we should totally trust people who have completely failed in their prognostications, where the real “consensus” is that 95% of their computers models have failed. Where they “massage” the data, change the data, falsify the data. Where they take the hard data from the past and make it fit their cult. Where they enrich themselves while refusing to follow their own talking points.

We aren’t debating change, we are debating causation. I wonder if Ms. Constello has given up her own fossil fueled travel, and made her life “carbon neutral”?

Good News: Only 35 Of 50 State Exchange Websites Were Deemed “High Risk”

Or is that 35 out of 58 states? Does the 58th have an Exchange? Has Obama visited it yet?

(Fox News) Security experts worried that 35 state health exchange websites were vulnerable to hackers and were rated as “high risk” for security problems before ObamaCare’s launch, documents obtained by Fox News show.

Fears that the health law’s websites could put consumers at risk have plagued the program’s rollout from the beginning, but the administration told The Associated Press that the documents offer only a partial and “outdated” snapshot of an improving situation.

While most have been fixed or are being addressed, and there have been no (reported) cyber attacks, the very fact that they would launch the websites with this knowledge and expose Americans to potential cybercrime

In order to connect to federal computers, state and other outside systems must undergo a security review and receive an “authority to connect.”

With the health care law, states needed approval to connect to a new federal data hub, an electronic back room that pings Social Security, the Internal Revenue Service, Homeland Security to verify personal details about people applying for government-subsidized insurance. The hub handles sensitive information, including income, immigration status and Social Security numbers.

The documents, seen by Fox News, showed a high-stakes decision-making process playing out against a backdrop of tension and uncertainty as the clock ran out. In one e-mail from Sept. 29, a Sunday two days before the launch, Teresa Fryer, chief information security officer for the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, wrote of the state security approvals, “The front office is signing them whether or not they are a high risk.” Her agency, known as CMS, also administers the health care law.

Team Obama was more concerned with launching their websites than the security of American’s, and intentional exposed citizens to potential life-changing cybercrime. It’s not like they had years to get this right. Were they a private corporation, The Government would investigate, castigate, and possibly file charges against that company.

Team Obama Provides A Triple-shot Of Stupidity

Well, a higher level of stupidity than normal

(Politico) Touting the latest White House Obamacare benchmark, President Barack Obama told his political base not to be discouraged by partisan attacks and stressed that their cause is divine.

About 4 million people have signed up for private health care plans under the Affordable Care Act, Obama said Tuesday night at an Organizing for Action event in Washington, urging his supporters to keep pushing to enroll as many people as possible before the March 31 deadline.

“We’re going to make a big push these last few weeks,” Obama told OFA volunteers and officials. “I can talk, my team can talk here in Washington, but it’s not going to make as much of a difference as if you are out there making the case. The work you’re doing is God’s work. It is hard work.”

I didn’t realize that lying, subverting campaign finance laws, and helping people lose their insurance and see their costs skyrocket was God’s work.

(Politico) Vice President Joe Biden used remarks at a reception he hosted in honor of African-American History Month to swing hard at the “malarkey” of voting right restrictions around the country — specifically, citing voter ID laws in North Carolina, Alabama and Texas as offenders.

As he’s done before, Biden linked the voting rights fight now to the civil rights movement of the 1960s, calling the people trying to restrict voting now the intellectual descendants of those who beat the movement’s leaders in Selma 50 years ago.

“These guys never go away. Hatred never, never goes away,” Biden said.

I wonder if Joe will call for the repeal of the voter ID laws in his home state of Delaware, Obama’s home state of Illinois, and the super deep blue state of Hawaii? As usual, Joe follows the liberal blueprint of using a feelings-based statement, because he cannot argue against voter ID using facts. He also failed to note that Jim Crow laws were Democrat laws, and the people attempting to block the civil rights law were mostly Democrats.

He also thinks that women work simply for health insurance. Sigh.

And then there’s Kathleen Sebelius, of whom Charles Krauthammer comments

(Fox News) Charles Krauthammer said Tuesday that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would have an easier time recalling claims she made about ObamaCare if she stuck to “the truth.”

The Fox News contributor and syndicated columnist made the comments on “Special Report with Bret Baier” after Sebelius said in a recent interview that she didn’t know where they got the figure of 7 million for people signing up for ObamaCare.

“Of course, she was the one that said it, among others,” he said. “You know, it’s an old rule, ‘say the truth, it’s easier to memorize.'”

The entire administration is incapable of telling the truth. And they don’t typically care about their lies/untruths. Like children, they live in the moment, not worrying about their previous lies. That moment for Team Obama is the moment of the 20 second sound-byte, and they realize that few in the major media will call them on the lies. If they were in the private sector, they would be fired.

BTW, Eric Holder’s comment telling state AG’s that they do not have to follow certain laws isn’t stupidity, it’s grounds for impeachment.

What Say To A 4.4 Billion Year Old Crystal?

(CNN) From a sheep ranch in Western Australia comes the oldest slice of Earth we know.

Scientists say they have dated an ancient crystal called a zircon to about 4.4 billion years, making it the earliest confirmed piece of the planet’s crust. The findings — the first to describe the zircon — were published in the journal Nature Geoscience on Sunday.

“This is the oldest and the best dated of all the crystals that have been reported,” said John Valley, lead study author and professor in the Department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. (snip)

Our planet is thought to be about 4.5 billion years old, but the oldest fossils are about 3.5 billion years old. That doesn’t necessarily mean that no life existed before that time, but no direct evidence has been found yet.

I’ve always found it really awesome, gnarly even (hey, I grew up surfing at the beach, even if it was New Jersey) to see and touch the rock at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History that is something like 3.96 billion years old.

NY Times: You Skeptics Need To Stop Being Greedy

(Daily Caller) The New York Times editorial board attacked skeptics of man-made global warming on Sunday by accusing them of financially benefitting from their opposition to more and stricter environmental regulations.

“Virtually everyone accepts the overwhelming evidence of human influence on climate change and the urgent need to address it, except for a handful of hardened skeptics and those who benefit financially from less regulation,” writes the Times’ editorial board.

The editorial itself revolves are the Supreme Court case regarding the EPA being sued over their draconian regulations for power plants, which I mentioned Monday.

While there are large amounts of money at stake in the global warming debate, the New York Times conveniently neglected to mention that there are people who stand to financially gain from government efforts to stem global warming.

“Given that the global warming proponents have a massive funding advantage, it is quite odd for the New York Times to assert — without evidence — that skeptics are ‘hardened’ or motivated by funding,” Marc Morano, publisher of the skeptic website Climate Depot, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

All sorts of Warmists, such as Al Gore, have significanly enriched themselves by pushing regulations and rules that affect Other People. Interestingly, Ralph Nader has wondered why these rich liberal Warmists don’t spend their own money pushing “climate change” rules. He wants 100 lobbyists, so, I guess pushing for Warmists to walk the talk is still out of the discussion.

Krauthammer’s “Climate Change” Piece Exposes The Fascism Of The Warmists

Heating up: Climate change advocates try to silence Krauthammer

Charles Krauthammer says it right up front in his Washington Post column: “I’m not a global warming believer. I’m not a global warming denier.”

He does, however, challenge the notion that the science on climate change is settled and says those who insist otherwise are engaged in “a crude attempt to silence critics and delegitimize debate.”

How ironic, then, that some environmental activists launched a petition urging the Post not to publish Krauthammer’s column on Friday.

Their response to opinions they disagree with is to suppress the speech. (snip)

Instead, these folks believe that censorship is preferable. Why engage Krauthammer when they might just be able to employ pressure tactics to silence him? And what’s the difference between this and shouting down a speaker at a town hall?

Krauthammer told me the petition-signers “showed up just in time to make precisely the point I made in the column.”

This is just the result of “settle science” talking points. Warmists, like most on the Left, do not want discourse unless it agrees 100% with them.

When it comes to free speech, he says, “they don’t even hide it anymore. Now they proudly want certain arguments banished from discourse. The next step is book burning. So the question of the day is: Can you light a Kindle?

Elected Official Michelle Obama To Unveil School Food Marketing Limits

Remember when Michelle Obama was elected to the position of First Lady, allowed to make laws and rules, so that she could do things like this?

(Politico) First lady Michelle Obama will unveil a proposal Tuesday that would ban marketing junk food and sodas in schools — an unusually aggressive position for the administration that could draw the ire of school districts, food companies and conservatives.

Schools would no longer be able to house vending machines that sport images of their flagship sodas, have posters promoting unhealthy food and drinks or use cups in cafeterias that market high-calorie beverages, among other forms of promotion, according to administration officials.

The proposal — part of an updated school wellness policy crafted by the Department of Agriculture — would require marketing of all food and drinks to fall in line with the same healthier standards that are expected to be required of foods sold during the 2014-15 school year. Both sets of measures, which go beyond the new school lunch and breakfast requirements, stem from the 2010 Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.

Last time I checked, she had no authority to determine rules, regulations, and law. More importantly, this is simply more of the Central Planning Office, er, federal Executive Office determining how people eat for the entire country, getting involved in our lives. Funny how Liberals want government out of our lives when it comes to abortion on demand, but want input and control over what we eat and drink

The updated standards for foods sold in schools, which have yet to be finalized, would require snack foods, including those in vending machines, to meet at least one of the following requirements: be a whole-grain-rich grain product; have as the main ingredient a fruit, a vegetable, a dairy product or a protein food; be a combination of food that contains at least one-quarter of a cup of fruits or vegetables; or contain 10 percent of the Daily Value of nutrients like calcium, vitamin D or dietary fiber.

The foods also would have to meet calorie, fat, sodium and sugar limits.

For beverages, elementary and middle schools are mostly limited to water, unflavored and low-fat milk, or 100 percent fruit and vegetable juice. High school students will be able to buy a certain amount of low- or no-calorie beverages.

The American Beverage Association actually applauded this interference in citizens lives, but, then, they’ll make more money off selling water than soft drinks. Water has a higher net profit. And for the schools, the marketing brings in cash for school operations, and this could have a detrimental effect on that cash flow.

“This is potentially the first time the government has set limits on marketing in schools. What kind of precedent does this set?”

This is why the Framers established the powers of the federal government while creating a federal republic, leaving all powers not delegated to the States and the People. They wanted, for one, to avoid an over-arching, dictatorial, intrusive, domineering, controlling federal authority, especially one where the Executive branch could simply make the rules up as they see fit.

11 Million Small Business Employees Could See Premium Hikes

Um, surprise?

(Daily Caller) Obamacare is once again under fire after federal estimates that health insurance premiums will increase for 11 million people who work for small businesses, according to a report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

House Speaker John Boehner blasted the Obama administration over the report Monday, calling it yet another “broken promise” from Obamacare’s authors.

“The Obama administration has finally been forced to disclose what we’ve long feared: the president’s health care law means higher premiums for millions of American workers,” Boehner said in a statement. “This is another punch in the gut for Americans already struggling in the president’s economy.”

The report itself, required by the Sequester, was, unsurprisingly for Team Obama, late. He’s never late for anything!

“The Obama administration’s long delay of this CMS report is consistent with the rest of the law — behind schedule and bad news for small business,” Sam Graves (R-Mo) said.

CMS initially issued the report to Congress Friday afternoon, rating Obamacare’s effect on premiums in the small group market, or for those individuals with employer-based coverage from a small business. The results were buried by news about Obamacare’s impact on Medicare Advantage.

Obamacare’s changes to the Public Health Service Act will result in premium hikes for 11 million Americans, but will trigger reductions for only 6 million individuals, CMS estimated in the report. Small employers’ costs will rise with the premium hikes as well.

OK, so some might see lower premiums, as well. But the report also noted “considerable uncertainty as to whether small employers will decide to terminate their existing offer of health insurance coverage and send their employees to individual market Exchanges.” So there is a concern that employers will simply dump employees onto the exchange. Which would mean that many citizens will be paying for their insurance all by themselves, rather than cost sharing as occurs now.

And this doesn’t even get into the deductible increases and reduction of networks.

Meanwhile, Obamacare could cause 498,000 people to lose their jobs

(Fox News) Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius may recently have had her own embarrassing moment akin to President Obama’s promise that everyone could keep their health plan and their doctor, no matter what.

Discussing the impact of ObamaCare on jobs, she said last week in Orlando, “There is absolutely no evidence and every economist will tell you this, that there is any job loss related to the Affordable Care Act.”

But Sebelius herself, using discretion granted her by the Affordable Care Act, cut the maximum allowed by law from home health care funds. The cuts were deep enough that officials offered a damaging prediction of the impact saying, it was estimated that approximately 40 percent of providers would have negative margins.

This could cause those job losses in the home health care industry. It’s not exactly new news, but interesting in light of Sebelius’ comments (and other Dems who say the same). This goes to the 14% cut in Medicare home health funding that kicks in from 2014-2017, which was the maximum cut that Team Obama was allowed to make, and the discretion as to the size of the cut was solely left to Sebelius, meaning Obama, as The Boss. And the 40% figure actually comes from the Obama administration itself, in the report released quietly in November. And this will heavily affect the seniors who need this home health care. Great law.

Paper Finds It Was Warmer In Tibet During MWP Than Today

If only all those monks had put up solar panels, unplugged all their appliances when not in use, took 2 minute showers, stopped using hair dryers, and gave up their fossil fueled travel

(The Hockey Schtick) A recent paper published in Quaternary Science Reviews reconstructs temperatures in Tibet over the past 2,500 years and finds the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than the current warm period. According to the authors, their data indicate “warmer climatic conditions during the MWP than the current warm period.”

The authors find “the natural climate variability on the northern Tibetan Plateau during the late Holocene might be linked to solar irradiance changes on multi-decadal and centennial timescales.” The paper demonstrates there is nothing unusual, unnatural or unprecedented about either the timing or the degree of warming experienced by the northern Tibetan Plateau over the past century or so.

Oh, wait, my bad, Warmists say that previous warm periods were natural, but natural forces can only play an itty bitty tiny miniscule part in the current warm period.

(strange how virtually every reconstruction, along with the real raw data shows that the MWP was warmer than the Modern Warm Period, eh?)
