Bummer: “Climate Change” Could Cause Gingers To Go Extinct

Because an increase of 1.4F over 160 years is like all doomy. But, there is something more idiotic in this article

(UK Mirror) Polar bears and Emperor penguins aren’t the only species under threat due to climate change.

Gingers could become extinct as a result of increasingly sunny skies, experts have warned.

Scientists believe the gene that causes red hair is an evolutionary response to cloudy skies and allows inhabitants to get as much Vitamin D as possible.

But if predictions of rising temperatures and blazing sunshine across the British Isles turn out to be correct, flaming red heads could cease to exist within centuries.

While only 1% to 2% of the world’s population are ginger, in the north of the UK, where the weather tends to be more gloomy, this number is much higher.

So, now Hotcoldwetdry causes more sunny skies? Seriously? That’s a new one. But, what if it’s not going to get more sunny?

Dr Alistair Moffat, managing director of Galashiels-based ScotlandsDNA, said: “We think red hair in Scotland, Ireland and in the North of England is adaption to the climate.

“I think the reason for light skin and red hair is that we do not get enough sun and we have to get all the Vitamin D we can.

“If the climate is changing and it is to become more cloudy or less cloudy then this will affect the gene.

“If it was to get less cloudy and there was more sun, then yes, there would be fewer people carrying the gene.”

Get the f*** outa here. More and less cloudy? These people really are bat shit insane. And wouldn’t know science if it reached around and, um, er, OK, won’t go there, bit them in the ass.

Democrats Looking For Legislative Fight Over Abortifacients

One has to wonder if this is a winning strategy going into the 2014 election cycle. Other than their abortion loving base, will this get out the vote for them? And is it the brightest idea to attack private companies in this manner, attempting to remove their 1st Amendment Rights?

(The Hill) Democrats want to lure Republicans into a fight over birth control with legislation to reverse the Supreme Court’s decision that ObamaCare may not require certain businesses to include contraception in their employee health coverage.

At least three bills are being crafted in the House and Senate to amend the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which the high court used as the basis for its ruling that the contraception mandate violated federal law.

Democrats are expected to introduce the measures prior to Congress’s August recess as part of an effort to recalibrate the party’s election-year messaging. Their hope is to turn out female voters by casting the court’s decision in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby as a strike against reproductive rights.

This could easily backfire, if Republican messaging is on point (yeah, not always something we can count on, though there are always the outside groups making TV commercial buys): they can easily point out that this is not about contraception, but abortifacients. They can also point out that the “contraception mandate” was not, in fact, part of the Obamacare law as written, but wholly a concoction of Team Obama to patronize their base and young women, moochers who want Someone Else to pay for their condoms and birth control pills. Though, of course, avoiding mentioning that last part.

“It will drive women to the polls this November to vote for the women candidates who are on the right side of women’s access to basic healthcare.”

“This will be a huge motivator for women in the fall and a liability for Republican candidates up and down the map,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) spokesman Justin Barasky added.

Abortifacients is a big driver of women to the polls? One has to wonder about their priorities and incompetence in using proper contraception to avoid getting pregnant.

Federal health officials could pursue regulations requiring insurers or the government to pay for birth control for women whose employers opt out of the mandate.

But for now, despite pressure from liberal groups, the White House is putting the onus on Congress. The tactic amounts to inviting the GOP to a legislative fight.

“The best way to resolve this situation is for Congress to pass a law,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Monday.

So now it’s up to the Central Government to pay for women to obtain abortifacients? Doesn’t that violate the Hyde Amendment?? Oh, right, loopholes. Why can’t they pay for them themselves? Why is it necessary for Someone Else to pay for them?

Lack Of Deportations A Big Factor In Illegal Alien Border Surge

Obama will probably find out about the failures of his border policies once he reads the news

(Breitbart) A leaked internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) indicates that recent public assertions made by the Administration were at best half-truths regarding the deportations and motivations of the waves of minors illegally entering the United States. The leaked report’s release date is identified as June 3, 2014. The internal report was leaked to Breitbart Texas by a trusted law enforcement source in DHS who wishes to remain unidentified.

The report, identified as “De-Classified” and “Law Enforcement Sensitive,” reveals the fact that only 0.1 percent of the Central American minors illegally entering the U.S. having been deported in Fiscal Year 2013, down from two percent prior, plays a significant role in why the current border crisis is occurring. The DHS-ICE agency report admits the fact that 98 percent are allowed to stay is a significant draw for the minors to come into the United States. The agency acknowledges that conditions in Central America play a role in why the wave is occurring, but directly contradicts the assertion that such conditions are the only significant reason the crisis exists. The report directly contradicts any assertion U.S. government refusals to deport illegal immigrants is not a significant factor in why the crisis is occurring.

The report further reveals that Central American nations are doing little to curb the flow of illegal immigration to the U.S. and attributes the lack of efforts in the host nations to stop the flow to the nations wanting their nationals to send money back home from the United States. The report also indicates that family members from the host nations already residing in the U.S. is a major draw for the current crisis. This indicates that illegal aliens already within the U.S. are possibly drawing more to illegally migrate north.

One of the big pulls for the “unaccompanied other than Mexican” illegal migration is wanting to reunited with other illegals already present in the United States. Then we learn directly from the document

Rather, several factors combine to cause this, including poor economies and violence in home countries, potential employment opportunities in the United States, family reunification, and success at not being immediately repatriated drive OTM UC migration to the United States.

In other words, not being deported. Could this be Obama’s Katrina moment? (via Ace)

(Washington Times) MSNBC panelists on Monday seemed puzzled by the president’s refusal to visit the U.S.-Mexico border while he fundraises in Texas, with USA Today reporter Susan Page calling the decision Mr. Obama’s “Katrina moment.”

Appearing on “The Daily Rundown,” Carolyn Ryan of The New York Times argued that the crisis on the border, in which thousands of immigrants are crossing illegally in record numbers, goes to question the president’s competence…

[Chuck] Todd said the administration has been “defiant” in refusing to visit the border while the president attends a fundraiser in Texas on Wednesday.

“It’s a Katrina moment, right?” Ms. Page asked. “And you’re going to a fundraiser and not going to the border where there’s this crisis?”

Fair or not, Bush made a few mistakes with Katrina. No need to rehash his role. For Obama, though, he barely seems engaged with the issue. He’s going to Texas to do the only thing he’s qualified to do: fund-raise.

The Parameters Of Warming

Let’s go back to basics, shall we?

  1. I believe that the Earth has warmed since 1850: I know this as a scientific fact. The warming is about 1.4 Fahrenheit in that time frame
  2. CO2 has increased in that time. Some believe that the danger threshold was 350ppm. If so, then why did warming spikes occur prior to that metric? Why were multiple Holocene warm period periods warmer than the current one? What cause the end of the last glacial period (which, technically, is still occurring, since there are glaciers)? Could there not be a more natural explanation?
  3. I believe Man does play some small part in the warming, mostly from things other than CO2. Land use, UHI, agriculture, landfills, even ocean pollution and ozone depletion. Consider that it is a fact that much of the warming is occurring at night, or, I should say, we do not get the radiative cooling that should occur.
  4. Let’s skip all the other random thoughts, and go to the big one: the argument is not about warming, it is about causation. Period. I have had arguments, not discussion, argument, with folks on the Right who claim there has been no warming. They’re deluded. I don’t believe in Creationism, but I’m willing to listen to them (not believe them, mind you) because at least they are arguing from a religious POV. The scientific facts show warming.
  5. The argument is about what has caused the Modern Warm Period warming.
  6. And, finally, the Earth has warmed around 1.4F, but what has caused this to occur. This is the crux of the debate.

Oh, by the way, I’m arguing causation, not warming. Hope that clears it up.

Good News: “Climate Change” Causes More And Less Antarctic Ice

Because “climate change” causes everything

(Daily Mail) Earlier this year, global warming was blamed for the ‘irreversible retreat’ of west Antarctic glaciers.

But now scientists claim that warming of the planet is in fact behind a paradoxical growth in South Pole sea ice.

The comments come as Antarctica’s sea ice set a record this week, reaching 815,448 square miles (1,312,000 square km) of ice above its normal range.

Scientists believe the shift is caused by water melting from beneath the Antarctic ice shelves and re-freezing back on the surface.

‘The primary reason for this is the nature of the circulation of the Southern Ocean — water heated in high southern latitudes is carried equatorward, to be replaced by colder waters upwelling from below, which inhibits ice loss,’ Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Centre, told Harold Ambler at Talking About the Weather.

Did the word “cult” just cross your mind? As all Skepetics know, there is no way to win a debate with Warmists, as Warmists will always have an excuse.

However, as reported in a separate blog post by Mr Ambler, Nasa scientist Walt Meier said that growing Antarctic sea ice coverage is less significant a measure than declining Arctic sea ice coverage when assessing climate change.

But, of course. If the reverse was happening, we’d hear that the Arctic didn’t matter. Of course, none of this proves anthropogenic causation. Just a typical Holocene warm period.

BBC Staff No Longer Allowed To Give Equal Time To Skeptics

(Telegraph) BBC journalists are being sent on courses to stop them inviting so many cranks onto programmes to air ‘marginal views’

The BBC Trust on Thursday published a progress report into the corporation’s science coverage which was criticised in 2012 for giving too much air-time to critics who oppose non-contentious issues.

The report found that there was still an ‘over-rigid application of editorial guidelines on impartiality’ which sought to give the ‘other side’ of the argument, even if that viewpoint was widely dismissed.

Some 200 staff have already attended seminars and workshops and more will be invited on courses in the coming months to stop them giving ‘undue attention to marginal opinion.’

Excellent. Re-education.

“The Trust wishes to emphasise the importance of attempting to establish where the weight of scientific agreement may be found and make that clear to audiences,” wrote the report authors.

“Science coverage does not simply lie in reflecting a wide range of views but depends on the varying degree of prominence such views should be given.”

Consensus is not science. By BBC standards, scientists like Galileo Galilei and Issac Newton would have been considered cranks and banned. Heck, a favorite of the Left, Charles Darwin, would be banned, for failing to be part of the consensus. This is the state of Progressivism in the media, banning those they do not agree with.

Of course, the hyper-progressives at Salon love this type of fascism.

Are Feds Bringing Riot Squads To Block Illegal Alien Protesters?

If this Breitbart report is correct, this is a dangerous escalation of the federal government’s use of blatant power, which violates multiple 1st Amendment Rights

As illegal immigrants continue to spill across the U.S.-Mexico border, federal authorities are attempting to relocate the migrants from South Texas to housing facilities in states across the nation. One such facility is located in Murrieta, California, where a large group of protesters recently blocked a bus full of migrants from arriving. The protesters remain there, adamant that illegal immigrants don’t get dumped in their town. But soon the concerned citizens may be forced to step down–Breitbart Texas has learned that federal agents plan to arrive in Murrieta on Monday with riot gear to ensure that another busload makes it to the housing facility.

Jeremy Oliver, a resident of Temecula, California–a town that neighbors Murrieta–told Breitbart Texas that local police officers warned the protesters that “it’s going to get ugly.”

Oliver said, “The feds are pissed that they haven’t been able to use this facility. Officers out there warned people that federal agents will be in Murrieta on Monday–they are going to get the next bus through no matter what. Riot gear and shields will be used to push the crowd back.”

John Henry, a Murrieta resident since 1991, was told the same thing by local officers.

“We’re being told that federal Marshals or ICE will be here in the next few days and that they are bringing riot gear,” Henry said. “They’re apparently going to be blocking off the street with concrete blockades so that no vehicles can get through. The River County Sheriff’s Department showed up last night and brought a huge watch tower that shoots up into the air 35 feet.”

Henry also noted that when Americans break laws, they are immediately arrested. But illegals are being treated with kid gloves, and, rather than being immediately deported, they are being relocated. One US citizen was arrested at the protest for crossing the yellow tape line. Huh. Think about that.

The Lonely Conservative points out

Didn’t someone from the administration previously promise that they would not send these immigrants to communities where they aren’t wanted? So much for that promise. They’re sending them to cities without even consulting with city leadership. Numbers USA has an interactive map showing where they’re planning to ship the illegals and where they’ve already sent them.

Furthermore, DHS Head Jeh Johnson is unable to say whether the illegals will be deported or not. Fortunately, Los Federales may be about to deploy riot gear encased federal Stormtroopers to deal with those pesky American 1st Amendment users.

Everyone should be very concerned about the use of federal agents in this manner. Liberals used to be concerned about the Central Government flexing its muscles against the Citizenry.

Fortunately, Obama is heading to Texas, a border state which is one of those seeing a huge influx of the illegals. As usual, though, Obama isn’t going there to Do His Job. Oh, no. He’s headed to multiple fundraisers. This isn’t leading from behind. It’s an abdication of responsibility.

Team Obama Already In Spin Mode Ahead Of Obamacare Rate Hikes

Politico refers to the coming rate hikes as a “September Surprise“. How is it a surprise when ever already knows that Obamacare rates are going to take a nice little spike?

Obamacare open enrollment closed March 31. The White House’s Obamacare war room did not.

Most state health insurance rates for 2015 are scheduled to be approved by early fall, and most are likely to rise, timing that couldn’t be worse for Democrats already on defense in the midterms.

The White House and its allies know they’ve been beaten in every previous round of Obamacare messaging, never more devastatingly than in 2010. And they know the results this November could hinge in large part on whether that happens again.

So they’re trying to avoid — or at least, get ahead of — any September surprise.

Aware that state insurance rate hikes could give Republicans a chance to resurrect Obamacare as a political liability just weeks before the midterms, the White House’s internal health care enrollment outreach apparatus immediately redirected into a rapid-response, blocking-and-tackling research and press operation geared toward preempting GOP attacks on the issue.

Premiums are expected to rise. Some in double digits, some not. Rather than rates going down, per the million and one times Obama and the Ocare supporters stated it would reduced family costs by $2500, they are going up. Rates are going up, despite it being called the “Affordable Care Act”. And what is Team Obama doing? Something to fix the rising costs? Nope. Spinning.

For months, the half-dozen White House communications and policy aides have been assembling state-by-state histories of health insurance rates before the Affordable Care Act was implemented, the drop-offs between initial rate proposals and final rates, and an analysis of the law’s effects and projections for 2015 — all condensed to fit on a two-page background and talking points document tailored for each state.

The law might be popular if costs were down. Of course, the costs would be worse if the deductibles weren’t so high. There’s no attempt to fix any of this, just an attempt to provide political spin.
