Oh, Goody: Another Activist Explains Hotcoldwetdry Denial

I love how they have to keep coming up with fanciful excuses. Dozens of excuses to explain away the Pause,  and lots to explain why people aren’t buying their snake oil

In a Wednesday afternoon lecture at the Yale Law School, Climate change activist George Marshall detailed the psychology of climate change denial.

Marshall serves as the director of the Oxford-based Climate Outreach and Information Network, an Oxford-based organization that works to deliver material about climate change that is accessible to all sectors of the general public. In the lecture, which was attended by about 50 students and faculty, Marshall explored the idea that people understand climate change through socially constructed narratives rather than coming to our own conclusions and taking action on these convictions. He attributed the lack of social emphasis on fighting climate change to the human psychological bias to avoid thinking or talking about uncertainty. (snip)

In order to combat the social narratives and human tendencies that prevent people from taking action against climate change, Marshall said he believes we must frame the issue depending on the audience. Rather than seek collaboration across disputing groups, such as democrats and republicans, advocates should frame climate change in a way that appeals to the values of each group.

“The climate change narrative is largely shaped by the values of liberal environmentalists, but climate change shouldn’t necessarily be environmental,” he said. “The framework should work well for the people who made it.”

In others word,  they are being told to bullshit their way through,  to make it up. I do find it interesting that he discusses “socially constructed narratives”, ie, group think and sheeplism, as how to get people to Believe, rather than rational thought and deep learning to make up our own minds.

If you want to convince Skeptics,  you must provide hard,  factual data and facts. No massaging, no spinning, no changing,  no smoothing, no falsifying.  No apocalyptic doomsaying. Models that actually work. Of course,  at the end of the day, we can easily see that this is not about science,  not about the environment, not about saving humanity, nor life on earth, it’s about a hardcore leftist agenda.

Oklahoma Man Who Beheaded Woman Has Facebook Page Exactly What You’d Expect From An Islamist

By now you’ve heard of this

(AP) A man fired from an Oklahoma food processing plant beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said Friday.

The FBI is looking into the background of Alton Moore, a recent convert to Islam, who went by the name Jah’Keem Yisrael. They should start with his Facebook page

(The Blaze) Alton Nolen, 30, the man suspected of beheading a woman and stabbing another co-worker in Moore, Oklahoma, reportedly goes by the name Jah’Keem Yisrael on his Facebook page, which appears to feature a group of Taliban fighters as a cover photo.

If reports that the Facebook page belongs to Nolen are accurate, it seems that Nolen had submersed himself in the Islamic faith as nearly all of his posts after April of 2013 are connected to Islam.

In one post, Nolen calls America and Israel “wicked” while criticizing the U.S. for not helping people in Gaza over Israel. Included in the post is an evil-looking picture of the Joker from the Batman series.

In another post featuring a photo of Pope Benedict, he wrote: “SHARIA LAW IS COMING!!!!”

And from the Daily Caller

He also posted images of Osama bin Laden and wrote in a caption on a photograph of the 9/11 attacks “A Future Prophecy Revelation 18:8 She (The statue Of Liberty) is going into flames. She and anybody who’s with her.” He also referenced U.S. intervention in Iraq in a July 24 post, writing, “AMERICA SO CALL HELPS IRAQ (WHICH NOT)- WELL WHY CANT U HELP THE GAZA CITIZENS AGAINST ISRAEL…AMERICA AND ISRAEL ARE WICKED. WAKE UP MUSLIMS!!!”

Now, if he had done this in the name of Christianity, or had Conservative leanings, liberals would blame all for these actions. Instead, we’re being told that this was just “workplace violence”, and nothing to do with Islam.

The Jawa Report notes that Nolan has a raft of problems, including hatred of women.

So the guy has problems other than Islam, but a bit mental and spontaneous Jihad are not mutually exclusive categories.

BTW, he was stopped after being shot by a Good Guy With A Gun.

Obama Weekly Address: Hey, Look At Me, I’m Leading!

Who’s he trying to convince? Americans? The world? Himself? (video himself)

Weekly Address: America is Leading the World

Hi, everybody. American leadership is the one constant in an uncertain world. That was true this week, as we mobilized the world to confront some of our most urgent challenges.

Leaders generally do not start out with “hi, everybody”. And leadership is not always positive. Especially in the era of Obama, where “leadership from behind” has been the norm. And, is it really leadership if you have to thump your chest? Or, are you just a poseur?

America is leading the world in the fight to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist group known as ISIL. On Monday, our brave men and women in uniform began air strikes against ISIL targets in Syria. And they weren’t alone. I made it clear that America would act as part of a broad coalition, and we were joined in this action by friends and partners, including Arab nations. At the United Nations in New York, I worked to build more support for this coalition; to cut off terrorist financing; and to stop the flow of foreign fighters into and out of that region. And in my address to the UN, I challenged the world — especially Muslim communities – to reject the ideology of violent extremism, and to do more to tap the extraordinary potential of their young people.

That’s strange: didn’t he originally say that ISIS wasn’t Islamic? Of course, it’s not leading when he was forced into this by public opinion polls after the beheading of several people, Americans, by ISIS.

America is leading the effort to rally the world against Russian aggression in Ukraine. Along with our allies, we will support the people of Ukraine as they develop their democracy and economy. And this week, I called upon even more nations to join us on the right side of history.

How’s that working out? This has been going on since right after the Olympics, and nothing has really changed.

America is leading the fight to contain and combat the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. We’re deploying our doctors and scientists — supported by our military — to help corral the outbreak and pursue new treatments. From the United Kingdom and Germany to France and Senegal, other nations are stepping up their efforts, too, sending money, supplies, and personnel. And we will continue to rally other countries to join us in making concrete commitments to fight this disease, and enhance global health security for the long-term.

OK, we can give him a thumbs up on this one. Of course, the problem here is that Obama expects everyone to get involved in an issue he cares about, instead of simply doing it himself. He’s done a good job in deploying US resources so far.

America is engaging more partners and allies than ever to confront the growing threat of climate change before it’s too late. We’re doing our part, and helping developing nations do theirs. At home, we’ve invested in clean energy, cut carbon pollution, and created new jobs in the process. Abroad, our climate assistance now reaches more than 120 nations. And on Tuesday, I called on every nation – developed and developing alike — to join us in this effort for the sake of future generations.

In other words, 120 countries love getting that sweet, sweet, US money for simply existing. It used to be called “foreign aid”, now it’s about “climate change”, and, as usual, the money is pretty much pissed away and the citizens continue to live in poverty and squalor. Oh, and they get to look at windmills and solar farms generating electricity that they can’t neither afford. That is, if they even have electrical outlets in their huts.

The people of the world look to us to lead. And we welcome that responsibility…

I wouldn’t have lost it laughing if he had said “I”.

Naomi Klein Still Letting Cat Out Of Bag About Climate Chang

Naomi Klein has been on a tear, what with her book coming out. I’ve discussed her a few times in the past few months, and she continues to highlight one of the real reasons lefties push “climate change”, the other being the fascistic push for central government control

(National Post) According to Canadian social activist and perennial agitator Naomi Klein, the really inconvenient truth about climate change is that it’s not about carbon — it’s about capitalism.

This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate is focused on exposing how the relentless pursuit of growth has locked us in to a system that’s incompatible with a stable climate. The bottom line is, the reality of global warming has forced civilization into a hard choice: Either continue on as usual, committing the planet to growing inequality as the effects of climate change escalate and disproportionately affect the poor, or try a radically different path.

She’s just saying what Warmists are thinking: get rid of capitalism. Make sure to read the entire interview, because she says things most Warmists refuse to ever say in public. Meanwhile

(Chicago Tribune) For some of the people in New York this week demanding action on global warming, the menace is not just carbon dioxide. The real Tyrannosaurus rex is the American economic system. On Monday, the day after the huge march through Manhattan, a few hundred protesters showed up in the financial district for “Flood Wall Street.” Their slogan: “Stop Capitalism. End the Climate Crisis.”

One of them lamented to ThinkProgress that “not many people are willing to say that the root problem of climate change is capitalism.” Another told The Daily Beast she was there “because I’m a Mashpee Wampanoag native to this country, and as far as I’m concerned, Wall Street greed has been killing me and my ancestors for 400 years.” (Snip)

It’s true there are corporations that profit from goods and services that contribute to global warming, from Exxon Mobil to General Motors to Duke Energy. But blaming capitalists for excessive carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is like blaming grocery stores for obesity. In each case, the business is taking its cue from what consumers want.

Steve Chapman goes on to explain capitalism, as well as how socialism utterly failed when it came to environmental concerns. Of course, that matters little to Warmists,  because a. they just know it will work this time, and b. so what if it doesn’t? They’ll have total control. That’s what they want.

US Homeland Security moves to tackle climate change risks

Good news. They aren’t particularly interested in securing the border or any of their other responsibilities, but, Hotcoldwetdry? They’re on it

(Retuers) Protecting the infrastructure of American cities from the effects of climate change is rising on the agenda of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a top agency official.

“Increasingly, we’ve moved not only from a security focus to a resiliency focus,” said Caitlin Durkovich, assistant secretary for infrastructure protection at Homeland Security, an agency better known for its fight to curb terrorist threats.

Durkovich spoke Thursday on a panel at the Rising Seas Summit, a three-day conference organized by the U.S.-based Association of Climate Change Officers to discuss tools and ideas on building resiliency, particularly against rising sea levels.

They’re doing a piss poor job of controlling the border, keeping out terrorists, monitoring the illegals they let in, securing cyberspace, etc and so on, and now they’re going to piss away their budget on “climate change”. Super.

To help communities develop resilience, Alex said, California is part of a pilot program under which AmeriCorps, the Corporation for National and Community Service, will dispatch 50 young people to educate local communities about climate adaptation and resilience.

Ah. I see. This is a way to provide overpriced jobs to Democrat voters who obtained worthless degrees from colleges.

While Pentagon Pushes Soldiers Out The Door, They Look To Recruit Illegal Aliens

Right now, the Pentagon is pushing US military members out the door, especially focused on those of officer’s rank, but also including lower ranked service personnel. Liberals have been working hard to transform the military

(RT) The Pentagon is to start recruiting undocumented immigrants who came into the US as minors and possess valuable skills like speaking Persian and Chinese. The program offering the opportunity is capped at 1,500 recruits per year.

The new policy revealed by the DoD on Thursday expands the existing pilot program called Military Accessions Vital to National Interest, or MAVNI. It has been tried since 2008, offering positions in the US armed forces to foreigners living in America legally as refugees or under a temporary visa.

Starting next fiscal year, MAVNI will also apply to illegal residents who came to US with their parents before age 16, reports the Military Times. The potential recruits would be selected from those eligible for the 2012 Obama administration policy known as Deferred Action for Child Arrivals, or DACA. Getting a DACA illegal immigrant status involves a background check by the Homeland Security Department.

The Pentagon recruits some 5,000 foreigners each year, most of them ‘green card’ holders. The MAVNI program may account for up to 1,500 recruits annually, although the military services are not required to accept them. In practice the Army has been the only service to accept a significant number, while the Navy and Marine Corps are not seeking applicants under it.

It’s “only” 1500 recruits a year. For now. 1500 who came here illegally and have no allegiance to this country.

Seattle To Penalize Citizens Who Do Not Compost

All in the name of climate change, of course

(CNN) photo green-police.jpgHave you ever thrown away a banana peel or dumped expired milk into the garbage? Well, if you do it in Seattle you are in for a fine.

Under a new policy, passed 9-0 by the Seattle City Council earlier this week, those who fail to compost “food waste and compostable paper” will be penalized.

The new program will come into effect in January 2015 for commercial establishments and residences. It will be enforced by the Seattle Public Utilities commission. Seattle has had a similar rule for noncompostable recyclables for nine years.

In other words, the little Progressives (nice fascists) on the council will require the garbage men, excuse me, sanitation workers, to go through your garbage to make sure you’re in compliance.

After receiving two warnings, residents and businesses will be fined $50 for dumpsters and a more modest $1 for waste at single-family homes. Previously, the utilities commission left residents and businesses a note that asked them to compost. If they did not comply, the city refused to collect the garbage.

It’s not much of a fine. It’s the thought that counts. And what happens if they catch you multiple times?

“Compostables are about 30% of what is still in the garbage and they are the largest target we have to help us reach our goals,” said Timothy Croll, solid waste director of the utilities commission, which asked the city council for the change. “Also, composting food waste reduces emissions of methane, which is a strong cause of climate change.”

Told you.

Of course, I have noted many times the danger of methane, and that agriculture and landfills are the two leading causes of greenhouse gas output from mankind.

But, see, there’s a problem: composting creates large amounts of methane and nitrous oxide. So, they’re turning sanitation technicians into law enforcement officers for no reason. And some think the fear of green police is silly.

Know What “Climate Change” Really Needs? A Song!

Sometimes, I have to wonder if the Warmists, most of whom are bat guano insane, are just trolling Skeptics with this kinda of nutbaggery. Then I remember that Liberals really have no sense of humor (unless it’s about assassinating Bush, Republicans, and people who do not agree with them), and Warmists are serious

Maybe climate change needs a great pop song
Pop music helped transform the way the West viewed the Cold War. The environment could really use an earworm, too.

As leaders from around the world gather at the United Nations this week for a global summit on climate change, the outlook is gloomy. The U.S, historically the world’s worst polluter, can’t even decide if man-made climate change exists. Meanwhile, China, the current king of greenhouse gas emissions, is reluctant to sign on to any climate change pact that would hinder its growth.

All of which got me thinking about Sting.

The 1980s were pretty dark days in geopolitics, but also the apex of do-good populism in the music industry. Before the rebirth of the music festival in the 1990s, A-list rock and pop musicians collaborated on topics ranging from helping family farms in the Midwest to helping starving children in drought-plagued East Africa.

Of course, those interests were primarily real. Live Aid was an attempt to help people starving. Bob Geldoff put his life on the line to pull Live Aid off. He didn’t try to “spread awarness”. He got down and dirty. The article then goes on about the anti-war music and musicians, ones who tried to “humanize” the Soviet bloc, and were against nukes and stuff. Of course, we can’t blame them for being punked by Reagan’s rhetoric and military buildup: the Soviet Union was punked, too. What it was all about was destroying the Soviet Union economically.

Giant marches are great, but they only last for a few hours and rely on the news media for coverage. If a song’s a hit, you can’t get rid of it. You can’t argue with it. And if the melody gets stuck in your head, the words will eventually catch up and sink in.

The right song might help create a generation committed to fighting for and thinking up smarter ways of generating electricity and responsibly managing the Earth’s resources (WT-hey, will the right song get Warmists to practice what they preach?). Or at least a generation that overwhelmingly believes human-influenced climate change is a real thing and a real threat. The politics are tricky, but not much more fraught than Soviet relations in the time of Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Leonid Brezhnev, and Mikhail Gorbachev.
