As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets” calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me

Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

Totally Predictable: Many New Medicaid Enrollees Finding It Hard To Find Care

Absolutely no one saw this coming, and how dare Fox News expose it….wait, this is the NY Times?

Enrollment in Medicaid is surging as a result of the Affordable Care Act, but the Obama administration and state officials have done little to ensure that new beneficiaries have access to doctors after they get their Medicaid cards, federal investigators say in a new report.

The report, to be issued this week by the inspector general at the Department of Health and Human Services, says state standards for access to care vary widely and are rarely enforced. As a result, it says, Medicaid patients often find that they must wait for months or travel long distances to see a doctor.

Most of the article Blames state standards and enforcement for this lack of access, thinking somehow that Government bureaucrats can magically create the ability for millions of new enrollees to see health care specialists with “checklists” and mandates, and activist groups agree

Sarah Somers, who represents poor individuals as a lawyer at the National Health Law Program, said federal Medicaid standards must be updated because “beneficiaries have reported serious problems obtaining the care they need, particularly reproductive health and specialty care.”

See? More Government rules will solve the problem. Hooray! The Times eventually lets the cat out of the bag

In assessing whether health plans have enough doctors, states typically rely on information supplied by insurers, Mr. Levinson said, but “this information is often inaccurate or out of date.” Some doctors are no longer in health plan networks. Some are not taking new Medicaid patients. Some were never at the address listed in the insurer’s directory of providers.

And

Jeff M. Myers, the president of Medicaid Health Plans of America, a trade group, said: “Our plans do everything they can to make sure beneficiaries have access to the care they need. But in some underserved areas, it’s very hard to find additional specialists and primary care physicians.”

And

The inspector general’s report focused on Medicaid, but Obama administration officials are wrestling with similar issues as they set standards for private health plans sold on insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.

While there are certainly some issues with getting some low income folks to the health centers, the bigger problem revolves around adding around 10 million more health insurance (Ocare, Medicaid) recipients to the pool of people who want to see doctors, while the pool of doctors actually shrinks because they will not accept Ocare insurance nor new Medicaid patients, thanks to the terrible repayment plans, among the primary reasons. If only someone told us about this beforehand.

Fortunately, the Times is there to softpedal the real issues on page A26 of the New York edition.

Turned on a spam plugin

I turned on another spam comment plugin. Let me know if you see anything strange occurring.

I didn’t want to turn the captcha back on. The one I used in the past is very easy to read, I set the words, was only rotating 5. Would prefer not to. Getting tired of 10-20 spam comments a day or more.

Citing climate change, Obama fences in huge Pacific area after wheeling and dealing

Remember when I wrote that I kinda approved of Obama protecting a large swath of the Pacific? Yeah, about that

(Fox News) Weeks after the White House was warned that a plan to vastly expand a maritime preserve and no-fishing zone in U.S.-controlled Pacific waters would harm the American fishing industry and geopolitically advantage China, the Obama administration has gone ahead anyway—with some concessions to make the environmental medicine, administered by presidential fiat, go down more smoothly. (Big snip)

Perhaps significantly, the White House announcement contains almost no mention at all of the threat of commercial fishing to the Pacific area where the expanded monument now extends. It does note that atolls and reefs in the area “are hotspots of biodiversity that harbor uncounted numbers of new and unique marine species”—meaning that they aren’t known to be under threat, either.

It further claims that “the expansion will better protect the habitat of animals with large migration and foraging ranges that stretch throughout the area, including sea turtles, marine mammals, and manta rays”—which are not fished.

The bigger dangers mentioned in the White House announcement are “the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification” which have only hypothetical impact on the area, and in any case are not affected by a commercial fishing ban.

Environmental Protection is good. This idiocy of having to add “climate change” is monumentally stupid. Seriously, can’t we just protect the environment for the environment’s sake?

Oh, Goody: Another Activist Explains Hotcoldwetdry Denial

I love how they have to keep coming up with fanciful excuses. Dozens of excuses to explain away the Pause,  and lots to explain why people aren’t buying their snake oil

In a Wednesday afternoon lecture at the Yale Law School, Climate change activist George Marshall detailed the psychology of climate change denial.

Marshall serves as the director of the Oxford-based Climate Outreach and Information Network, an Oxford-based organization that works to deliver material about climate change that is accessible to all sectors of the general public. In the lecture, which was attended by about 50 students and faculty, Marshall explored the idea that people understand climate change through socially constructed narratives rather than coming to our own conclusions and taking action on these convictions. He attributed the lack of social emphasis on fighting climate change to the human psychological bias to avoid thinking or talking about uncertainty. (snip)

In order to combat the social narratives and human tendencies that prevent people from taking action against climate change, Marshall said he believes we must frame the issue depending on the audience. Rather than seek collaboration across disputing groups, such as democrats and republicans, advocates should frame climate change in a way that appeals to the values of each group.

“The climate change narrative is largely shaped by the values of liberal environmentalists, but climate change shouldn’t necessarily be environmental,” he said. “The framework should work well for the people who made it.”

In others word,  they are being told to bullshit their way through,  to make it up. I do find it interesting that he discusses “socially constructed narratives”, ie, group think and sheeplism, as how to get people to Believe, rather than rational thought and deep learning to make up our own minds.

If you want to convince Skeptics,  you must provide hard,  factual data and facts. No massaging, no spinning, no changing,  no smoothing, no falsifying.  No apocalyptic doomsaying. Models that actually work. Of course,  at the end of the day, we can easily see that this is not about science,  not about the environment, not about saving humanity, nor life on earth, it’s about a hardcore leftist agenda.

Oklahoma Man Who Beheaded Woman Has Facebook Page Exactly What You’d Expect From An Islamist

By now you’ve heard of this

(AP) A man fired from an Oklahoma food processing plant beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said Friday.

The FBI is looking into the background of Alton Moore, a recent convert to Islam, who went by the name Jah’Keem Yisrael. They should start with his Facebook page

(The Blaze) Alton Nolen, 30, the man suspected of beheading a woman and stabbing another co-worker in Moore, Oklahoma, reportedly goes by the name Jah’Keem Yisrael on his Facebook page, which appears to feature a group of Taliban fighters as a cover photo.

If reports that the Facebook page belongs to Nolen are accurate, it seems that Nolen had submersed himself in the Islamic faith as nearly all of his posts after April of 2013 are connected to Islam.

In one post, Nolen calls America and Israel “wicked” while criticizing the U.S. for not helping people in Gaza over Israel. Included in the post is an evil-looking picture of the Joker from the Batman series.

In another post featuring a photo of Pope Benedict, he wrote: “SHARIA LAW IS COMING!!!!”

And from the Daily Caller

He also posted images of Osama bin Laden and wrote in a caption on a photograph of the 9/11 attacks “A Future Prophecy Revelation 18:8 She (The statue Of Liberty) is going into flames. She and anybody who’s with her.” He also referenced U.S. intervention in Iraq in a July 24 post, writing, “AMERICA SO CALL HELPS IRAQ (WHICH NOT)- WELL WHY CANT U HELP THE GAZA CITIZENS AGAINST ISRAEL…AMERICA AND ISRAEL ARE WICKED. WAKE UP MUSLIMS!!!”

Now, if he had done this in the name of Christianity, or had Conservative leanings, liberals would blame all for these actions. Instead, we’re being told that this was just “workplace violence”, and nothing to do with Islam.

The Jawa Report notes that Nolan has a raft of problems, including hatred of women.

So the guy has problems other than Islam, but a bit mental and spontaneous Jihad are not mutually exclusive categories.

BTW, he was stopped after being shot by a Good Guy With A Gun.

Obama Weekly Address: Hey, Look At Me, I’m Leading!

Who’s he trying to convince? Americans? The world? Himself? (video himself)

Weekly Address: America is Leading the World

Hi, everybody. American leadership is the one constant in an uncertain world. That was true this week, as we mobilized the world to confront some of our most urgent challenges.

Leaders generally do not start out with “hi, everybody”. And leadership is not always positive. Especially in the era of Obama, where “leadership from behind” has been the norm. And, is it really leadership if you have to thump your chest? Or, are you just a poseur?

America is leading the world in the fight to degrade and ultimately destroy the terrorist group known as ISIL. On Monday, our brave men and women in uniform began air strikes against ISIL targets in Syria. And they weren’t alone. I made it clear that America would act as part of a broad coalition, and we were joined in this action by friends and partners, including Arab nations. At the United Nations in New York, I worked to build more support for this coalition; to cut off terrorist financing; and to stop the flow of foreign fighters into and out of that region. And in my address to the UN, I challenged the world — especially Muslim communities – to reject the ideology of violent extremism, and to do more to tap the extraordinary potential of their young people.

That’s strange: didn’t he originally say that ISIS wasn’t Islamic? Of course, it’s not leading when he was forced into this by public opinion polls after the beheading of several people, Americans, by ISIS.

America is leading the effort to rally the world against Russian aggression in Ukraine. Along with our allies, we will support the people of Ukraine as they develop their democracy and economy. And this week, I called upon even more nations to join us on the right side of history.

How’s that working out? This has been going on since right after the Olympics, and nothing has really changed.

America is leading the fight to contain and combat the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. We’re deploying our doctors and scientists — supported by our military — to help corral the outbreak and pursue new treatments. From the United Kingdom and Germany to France and Senegal, other nations are stepping up their efforts, too, sending money, supplies, and personnel. And we will continue to rally other countries to join us in making concrete commitments to fight this disease, and enhance global health security for the long-term.

OK, we can give him a thumbs up on this one. Of course, the problem here is that Obama expects everyone to get involved in an issue he cares about, instead of simply doing it himself. He’s done a good job in deploying US resources so far.

America is engaging more partners and allies than ever to confront the growing threat of climate change before it’s too late. We’re doing our part, and helping developing nations do theirs. At home, we’ve invested in clean energy, cut carbon pollution, and created new jobs in the process. Abroad, our climate assistance now reaches more than 120 nations. And on Tuesday, I called on every nation – developed and developing alike — to join us in this effort for the sake of future generations.

In other words, 120 countries love getting that sweet, sweet, US money for simply existing. It used to be called “foreign aid”, now it’s about “climate change”, and, as usual, the money is pretty much pissed away and the citizens continue to live in poverty and squalor. Oh, and they get to look at windmills and solar farms generating electricity that they can’t neither afford. That is, if they even have electrical outlets in their huts.

The people of the world look to us to lead. And we welcome that responsibility…

I wouldn’t have lost it laughing if he had said “I”.

Naomi Klein Still Letting Cat Out Of Bag About Climate Chang

Naomi Klein has been on a tear, what with her book coming out. I’ve discussed her a few times in the past few months, and she continues to highlight one of the real reasons lefties push “climate change”, the other being the fascistic push for central government control

(National Post) According to Canadian social activist and perennial agitator Naomi Klein, the really inconvenient truth about climate change is that it’s not about carbon — it’s about capitalism.

This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate is focused on exposing how the relentless pursuit of growth has locked us in to a system that’s incompatible with a stable climate. The bottom line is, the reality of global warming has forced civilization into a hard choice: Either continue on as usual, committing the planet to growing inequality as the effects of climate change escalate and disproportionately affect the poor, or try a radically different path.

She’s just saying what Warmists are thinking: get rid of capitalism. Make sure to read the entire interview, because she says things most Warmists refuse to ever say in public. Meanwhile

(Chicago Tribune) For some of the people in New York this week demanding action on global warming, the menace is not just carbon dioxide. The real Tyrannosaurus rex is the American economic system. On Monday, the day after the huge march through Manhattan, a few hundred protesters showed up in the financial district for “Flood Wall Street.” Their slogan: “Stop Capitalism. End the Climate Crisis.”

One of them lamented to ThinkProgress that “not many people are willing to say that the root problem of climate change is capitalism.” Another told The Daily Beast she was there “because I’m a Mashpee Wampanoag native to this country, and as far as I’m concerned, Wall Street greed has been killing me and my ancestors for 400 years.” (Snip)

It’s true there are corporations that profit from goods and services that contribute to global warming, from Exxon Mobil to General Motors to Duke Energy. But blaming capitalists for excessive carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is like blaming grocery stores for obesity. In each case, the business is taking its cue from what consumers want.

Steve Chapman goes on to explain capitalism, as well as how socialism utterly failed when it came to environmental concerns. Of course, that matters little to Warmists,  because a. they just know it will work this time, and b. so what if it doesn’t? They’ll have total control. That’s what they want.
