Why is this horrific story not more widely disseminated?
(UK Daily Mail) Two men were hurled from the top of a tower block, two more were crucified in front of a baying crowd and a woman was stoned to death in the latest series of horrific executions by ISIS.
The men were thrown from the roof down to the crowd below in the brutal punishment for being gay.
Charges found against the accused were announced by a masked Islamic State fighter, using a small handheld radio. Reading from a list, he declares the men are guilty of engaging in homosexual activities and should be punished by death, in accordance with Islamic State’s radical interpretation of Sharia law.
The horrific punishment was reportedly carried out in the Iraqi province of al-Furat. The victim’s broken body is photographed on the dirty road, lying outside the steps of the orange patterned building. Two other men were also crucified for alleged rape crimes. Their bodies are shown lying tied up to the railings of a nearby fence.
The woman was accused of adultery.

One has to wonder when, or even if, Liberals/Leftists/Progressives will turn on radical Islam, which constantly treats gays and women in horrific manners. There are competing interests within the LLP community in wanting to show their support for gays and women but also to be tolerant of all Muslims, a kind of generic Islam, which leads to their constant defense of the hardcores, known as Islamists in truly unique and blindingly stupid ways. LLPs are mostly incapable of condemning the Islamists, and call any criticism “Islamophobia”, in their insane multiculturalism/diversity worldview.
I never got around to this Friday, since life happened (shot a 43 while walking 9 yesterday afternoon, even with the wind. Putting was great), plus, I really didn’t care that much. There are always breathless pronouncements by Warmists, and they’ve been pushing this meme for months. Outlets like the Washington Post, Vox, Politico, etc, along with all sorts of left leaning blogs and organizations, are all going bat guano insane over this “news”, blaming Mankind, yet, none of the writers and organizations are pledging to give up their own fossil fuels usage. Strange, I know!
NASA, NOAA Find 2014 Warmest Year in Modern Record
The year 2014 ranks as Earth’s warmest since 1880, according to two separate analyses by NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists.
The 10 warmest years in the instrumental record, with the exception of 1998, have now occurred since 2000. This trend continues a long-term warming of the planet, according to an analysis of surface temperature measurements by scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) in New York.
Perhaps they can tell us the temperature in the previous warm periods? No?
Since 1880, Earth’s average surface temperature has warmed by about 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degrees Celsius), a trend that is largely driven by the increase in carbon dioxide and other human emissions into the planet’s atmosphere. The majority of that warming has occurred in the past three decades.
Well, wouldn’t be proper for NASA/NOAA to not primarily Blame Mankind, right? Overall, though, the world is still in Pause. Something not discussed in the press release, nor in most of the Warmist articles, is the actual “temperature”. As Not A Lot Of People Know That notes
Nowhere does their press release tell us that it only beat the previous record by a tiny, effectively unmeasurable 0.02C. Nor do they mention that the error bars are many times greater, or even tell us what they are.
One can barely tell the difference between 57F and 58.4F. “Is 58.46° then distinguishable from 58.45°?” That’s what Dr. Pat Michaels asks, and his answer is “no”.
Both Not A Lot Of People Know That and Dr. Judith Curry note that NASA claims it was an El Nino neutral year. The actual data refutes that. Dr. Curry also notes
Berkeley Earth sums it up well with this statement:
That is, of course, an indication that the Earth’s average temperature for the last decade has changed very little.
The key issue remains the growing discrepancy between the climate model projections and the observations: 2014 just made the discrepancy larger.
So, essentially, the Pause continues, and the Warmist computer models continue to fail stupendously. She also writes
With 2014 essentially tied with 2005 and 2010 for hottest year, this implies that there has been essentially no trend in warming over the past decade.
The temperature is stable.
One thing we’re still waiting for is the satellite records. Once those come out, this whole “2014 is the hottest year” stuff will go away…oh, who am I kidding. The media and Warmists will ignore any actual data which disagrees with their cultish beliefs.
Regardless, even if the data is 100% spot on, it still doesn’t prove mostly/solely anthropogenic causation, just another wishy washy warm period during this interglacial period. The argument is not over warming, but causation.

Greater Acceleration of Global Sea-Level Rise than Previous Estimates
New research out of Harvard University shows that previous estimates of global sea-level rise from 1900-1990 were overestimated by up to 30 percent.
However, since 1990 sea-level rise estimates have been confirmed by this new research which means that the rate of sea-level change was actually increasing more quickly over the past century than what was estimated by other experts.
Interesting. Does this seem similar to the typical Warmist pattern of cooling the past and warming the present? Anyhow, how bad is it? The graph at the link states 3.2 +/- 0.4mm year from 1993 forward, which, interestingly, shows no acceleration during that time period. But, of course
Earlier estimates showed a sea-level rise ranging from 1.5-1.8 mm/yr over the 20th century. This new study shows that the rise between 1901-1990 was closer to 1.2 mm/yr. But there is strong consensus in the scientific community that the sea-level rise since 1990 has been about 3 mm/yr. What this means is that there has been a larger acceleration of global sea level than previously thought.
At last count, there were 209 articles regarding this fable.
Key excerpts courtesy of the Harvard Gazette……
“Another concern with this is that many efforts to project sea-level change into the future use estimates of sea level over the time period from 1900 to 1990,” said Eric Morrow, a recent Ph.D. graduate of the department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard. “If we’ve been overestimating the sea-level change during that period, it means that these models are not calibrated appropriately, and that calls into question the accuracy of projections out to the end of the 21st century.”
I’m sure you’ve noticed the words in bold: nothing within the articles suggest anything so pedestrian, oh, and scientific, like taking actual measurements. Estimates, projections, and, of course, the ever-present computer models. If you peruse the data via NOAA, you can see that individual charts do not show any sort of acceleration. In fact, many data points actually show a decrease in sea height, particularly in the very northern latitudes along the Alaska, Canadian, Scandinavian, and Russian coasts. The most northern measurement has Barentsburg, Norway, and island well north of Norway, as -2.25mm year. Strange. One would think that with all the supposed melting ice in the Arctic that the seas would rise quicker there.
Regardless, what Warmists are pushing is supposition, not science, and, even if there was an acceleration, it in no way proves anthropogenic causation.

Does anyone think the NY Times would be upset if “hate speech” crackdowns and restrictions were enacted towards Conservatives, Tea Party members, or Christians? Anyhow, the Times was also not brave enough to show the total front cover of the latest Charlie Hebdo. This one is written by the editorial board
Wrong Responses to Charlie Hebdo
Leaders in Europe are justifiably trying to figure out what they should be doing to prevent terrorist attacks like the recent massacre at the satirical French newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Regrettably, some politicians are proposing the kind of Internet censorship and surveillance that would do little to protect their citizens but do a lot to infringe on civil liberties.
Interesting, because that is exactly what is happening here in America, as it emanates from Liberals for a variety of reasons, especially on college campuses.
In Paris, a dozen interior ministers from European Union countries including France, Britain and Germany issued a statement earlier this week calling on Internet service providers to identify and take down online content “that aims to incite hatred and terror.†The ministers also want the European Union to start monitoring and storing information about the itineraries of air travelers. And in Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron suggested the country should ban Internet services that did not give the government the ability to monitor all encrypted chats and calls.
Strange, Obama and many Democrats (and, let’s face it, a few Republicans) want the same thing here.
Even before the Charlie Hebdo attack, European leaders were proposing or enacting harsh measures. For example, the French Parliament passed a law in September that allows the authorities to temporarily seize the passports and identity cards of citizens who seem intent on joining foreign terrorist organizations. And this week, French officials said they had arrested 54 people for hate speech, including a controversial comedian.
I guess there’s a certain type of “hate speech” and a certain type of action that the NY Times doesn’t want to restrict. Weird, eh?
Appealing as these measures may sound in the aftermath of a tragedy, they are deeply flawed. Countries like France and Germany have long had stricter controls on speech than the United States. For example, their governments have in the past forced Internet firms like Yahoo and Twitter to take down Nazi propaganda. But those decisions are generally made by government officials or judges, not technology companies.
Notice there really wasn’t a condemnation of those restrictions against modern day Nazis.
Of course, governments can and should take steps to identify threats and prevent terrorist attacks through targeted intelligence gathering. But there is good reason to believe that widespread censorship and intrusive surveillance will only undermine personal freedoms and could even make us less secure.
I will wholly agree that restricting speech is dangerous. The government going after folks who speak out is dangerous. Why does the NY Times, though, typically agree with restrictions on Free Speech here in America that it doesn’t agree with? College campuses are hotbeds of free speech restrictions, particularly at government run/funded ones. I can’t remember the NY Times speaking out on that.
That said, does government have the ability and right to deal with speech that is threatening? As the saying goes, you can’t legally shout fire in a crowded movie theater (unless there is actually a fire). You can’t threaten to kill people. You can’t threaten to burn things. Etc and so on. Well, actually, you can, but there are Consequences for doing so.

Get your popcorn ready! Leftists are outraged by the Academy Award nominees
Yes. Yes it is
(Daily Caller) MSNBC host and civil rights activist Al Sharpton is calling for an emergency meeting of his eight-member diversity task force to discuss action against the Academy Awards after the movie “Selma†received only one Oscars nomination.
“The movie industry is like the Rocky Mountains, the higher you get, the whiter it gets,â€Â Sharpton said with usual flair in a statement released Thursday after the announcement of Oscar nominations.
Many, including Sharpton, were outraged that none of the actors in “Selma,†a movie about the 1965 Voting Rights Act, were nominated for the golden statues.
“The lack of diversity in today’s Oscar nominations is appalling and while it is good that Selma was nominated for ‘Best Picture,’ it’s ironic that they nominated a story about the racial shutout around voting while there is a racial shutout around the Oscar nominations,†Sharpton continued in his statement.
“I have called an emergency meeting early next week in Hollywood with the task force to discuss possible action around the Academy Awards.â€
Interesting. Leftist Hollywood snubbed “Selma”. Of course, there were plenty of snubs, just. Like. Every. Year. There have been plenty of notorious snubs. Just because Selma was snubbed doesn’t mean it was racism, or, raaaaacism. Selma is very well reviewed, at least by Rotten Tomatoes. A movie being well liked by the audience is never a reason one gets an Academy Award nomination. Nor do the box office receipts influence a nomination.
Does Selma deserve any nominations? I don’t know, I did not see it. I have no intention of watching it. Not because it is about Blacks, but because it is a drama, and I rarely watch dramas, preferring science fiction and horror. I won’t go see Paddington Bear, either. I might watch American Sniper and Unbroken when they come out on DVD. I might not.
This does set up and interesting fight between Leftist Al Sharpton and his mafia extortion tactics (which would get others thrown in jail) vs. Leftist Hollywood.
PS: I just saw that I managed to cut out a paragraph noting that the movie had been nominated for Best Picture and Best Song. The cries of racism come from the failure to nominate any of the actors, nor the director, or for anything else.
And, for reference, Breitbart offers up 225 huge Oscar snubs, both people and movies.

Yesterday I noted that CNN gave a platform to a notorious 9/11 Truther to  yammer on about doooooooom!!!!!! from “climate change”.  Today we learn
(Daily Caller)  Is this the new climate consensus? More than half of Americans say global warming is not a threat to their way of life, according to a CNN poll. Furthermore, nearly half of Americans say global warming is caused by natural forces or isn’t a proven fact.
CNN’s poll reveals that a “majority of those polled, at 57 percent, say global warming will not pose a serious threat to their way of life,†and that only 43 percent “expect global warming to threaten them.â€
Even with 50% taking the position that global warming is mostly caused by emissions from cars and industry, they can still only get to 43% who are concerned. 23% say primarily natural. 26% say it is a theory that has not been proven yet. Heck, only 69% of Democrats stated that they believe in AGW. And only 67% of Democrats feel that AGW is a threat.
Along with that poll, we find that 57% support building Keystone XL.
