Warmists Super Enthused By GOP Megadonor Who Believes In ‘Climate Change’

While belief in anthropogenic global warming, natch, ‘climate change’, is primarily a Left wing belief, their are certainly a few Republicans who believe that the current Holocene warm period, or at least parts of it (depends on the argument of the day) is mostly/solely caused by Mankind. Folks like Lindsay Graham, Jon Huntsman, Chris Christie, and Mitt Romney. It’s fine for them to have those beliefs, no matter how misguided. It’s not OK to force those beliefs on other people and attempt to solve it by implementing massive government projects, taxes, and controls. Here comes another, which brings to mind the phrase “beware of Greeks bearing gifts”, or, “beware of megadonors bearing money”

(AP) Republican businessman Jay Faison says his party should stop fighting science and start talking solutions to climate change. He has $175 million in potential political donations to help inspire them. And if that’s not enough, he’s commissioned a survey, released Monday, that he says shows voters agree.

“I’m pretty frustrated about the political divide,” Faison said. “This is too important to leave to the Democrats.”

Faison made his fortune in 2013 with the sale of his majority stake in his audio-visual equipment company, based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He sank much of his profit into the ClearPath Foundation and a separate politically active policy group; both are devoted to moving Republicans beyond saying that the climate is not changing — or, if it is, that humans have nothing to do with it.

I’ll give him this, he’s doing this in smart manner in attempting to push clean energy in a manner that Conservatives can believe it. Heck, I believe it. Do we want clean energy? Sure. 72% of Republicans “support accelerating the development of clean energy”. That comes from a poll at the ClearPath Foundation. We just want it done in a wise manner, one that makes monetary sense, one that is not based on political payback, and ends in companies taking vast sums of taxpayer money, pocketing it, then closing the doors. One that doesn’t replace existing energy methods with costly ones that provide limited power.

We also do not want vast solar and wind farms despoiling the landscape, killing wildlife, and, yes, driving down property values.

That all said, at the end of the day this is first all about fighting Hotcoldwetdry for people like Faison, not pushing clean energy, and, Faison can say all he wants that this won’t increase the size and scope of the government, but, it will. He yammers on about “free market values”. The free markets have mostly decided that these energy forms are not worth it at this time.

In his personal story, Faison writes

Since then, liberals have claimed the energy and climate issue as their own. This was hard to watch. Why weren’t conservative solutions being offered up? Why weren’t more people like me involved? I saw the issue as one that should be owned by conservatives. What could be more conservative than energy independence and freeing up energy markets that were controlled by monopolies?

He’s doing the right thing for the wrong reason. One has to wonder if he has given up all use of fossil fuels in his own life. And, many on his advisory board sure seem to have the same opinions as far left Warmists, ones such as Jeremy Oppenheim, of McKinsey and Company, who is super thrilled by Naomi Klein’s views on totally changing economies to a far left type.

For all his talk about being a Republican, he sure seems unwilling to allow competing views

(NY Times) Democrats, including Hillary Rodham Clinton, have sought to paint Republicans who question climate change as deniers of science who are out of touch with the mainstream.

Mr. Faison and the Republican pollsters said that in order to avoid that characterization, Republicans need to move beyond questioning and start offering solutions.

Interesting. We’re supposed to solve something we don’t believe in, something based on junk science, flawed and failed computer models, modified data, and left wing hysteria. And, yes, Faison does very much want a “carbon tax”, yet another left wing proposition. I won’t call him a stealth Republican, but he sure seems to be very squishy.

Man Who Lives Behind Layers Of Security Whines About Building Border Wall

When push comes to shove, never bet against Mr. Obama demeaning Americans and America, especially when speaking in front of the United Nations. Powerline writes of his whole speech “The tone is professorial, patronizing, obnoxious, and unmanly.” It’s just Obama being Obama

(Breitbart) President Obama, who appears increasingly annoyed by presidential candidate Donald Trump, pointedly denounced the themes of the billionaire candidate’s campaign for president during his speech to the United Nations.

Referring to the “most advanced democracies” in the world, Obama admitted to the world leaders that there was opposition from the “far right” on trade agreements and immigration.

“We see greater polarization, more frequent gridlock; movements on the far right, and sometimes the left, that insist on stopping the trade that binds our fates to other nations, calling for the building of walls to keep out immigrants,” he said.

It was Democrats who were mostly against the recent trade agreements. That said, Obama lives behind “walls”. The White House has a fence, separating Obama from everyone else, which is constantly monitored by people with guns. Sure, it isn’t perfect, a few people get through now and then, but, it stops 99.999% of the people. He has a wall of people constantly surrounding him when he is out and about. Of course, he’s being completely disingenuous, as usual, in calling people who illegally cross our borders/overstay their visas “immigrants”.

Obama continues on in that paragraph

Most ominously, we see the fears of ordinary people being exploited through appeals to sectarianism, or tribalism, or racism, or anti-Semitism; appeals to a glorious past before the body politic was infected by those who look different, or worship God differently; a politics of us versus them.

In other words, he’s saying that people aren’t entitled to their opinions. Who’s opinions should be allowed? Well, that’s easy to guess, is it not?

Bummer: “Limited Progress Seen Even as More Nations Step Up on Climate”

Would you be shocked that the Cult Of Climastrology wants even more? So says the NY Times, which provided the headline. Without the “bummer”, of course

The pledges that countries are making to battle climate change would still allow the world to heat up by more than 6 degrees Fahrenheit, a new analysis shows, a level that scientists say is likely to produce catastrophes ranging from food shortages to widespread extinctions of plant and animal life.

Yet, in the world of global climate politics, that counts as progress.

Nothing says progress like massive government regulations and restrictions which do nothing. Well, nothing according to computer models this mularky is based on.

The planet has already warmed by about 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit above the temperature that prevailed before the Industrial Revolution, representing an enormous addition of heat. Virtually every piece of land ice on Earth is melting, the sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, droughts and other weather extremes are intensifying, and the global food system has shown signs of instability.

First, it’s just 1.5F over a period of 160 some odd years. The temperature is not going to suddenly explode.

Second, not every bit of ice is melting. Many glaciers are growing. Only certain portions of the Antarctic are melting, and real science is showing it’s more due to volcanic activity than any warming. The Arctic is much stronger than it was years ago. Same with Greenland. And, anyhow, none of that would prove anthropogenic causation. Just a low level Holocene warm period.

Third, even the UN IPCC refuses to dive into the extreme weather meme, which science shows is just a fantasy talking point. Remember when tornadoes and hurricanes were supposed to get worse? How’s that working out?

At a meeting in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010, climate negotiators from nearly 200 countries agreed that they would try to limit the warming to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit, or 2 degrees Celsius, above the preindustrial temperature, a level that would require that emissions from fossil fuels largely cease within a few decades.

Wait, I thought Warmists said they weren’t calling for an end to Everyone Else using fossil fuels?

Bruising fights are still expected at the Paris conference, especially over money. Poor countries that have had little to do with causing global warming, but are likely to suffer the worst effects, are demanding billions from rich countries to help them manage.

As they say, whenever the question includes “why?”, the answer is “money”.

Cult Of Climastrology: We Should Listen To The Pope On “Climate Change”

So says The Nation

On Climate Change, Listen to Pope Francis, Not Jeb Bush

….

But he will have a hard time topping his argument against accepting Pope Francis’ counsel on the need to fight climate change. After the pontiff urged members of Congress to engage with the rest of the world in “courageous actions and strategies” to combat global warming, Bush declared that the pope’s call should be disregarded.

Why? Because, Bush announced, “He’s not a scientist, he’s a religious leader.”

Bush, who is Catholic and who has attended mass with Pope Francis, needs to study up on the pontiff’s background in science. And on the rigorous research that underpins the pope’s advocacy on climate-change issues.

Before he chose to pursue the priesthood, the future pope trained as a chemical technician. Writers for the National Catholic Reporter reference “his training as a scientist” and point out that the young Jorge Mario Bergoglio “worked as a chemist prior to entering the seminary.”

It is a valid point, regarding the Pope’s background in chemical engineering. However, what about something else?

https://twitter.com/WilliamTeach/status/648189705956233216

The Pope is the #1 authority figure alive in the Catholic church on these matters (well, obviously Jesus and the Bible are the ultimate authority): should we listen to him on those matters if we’re supposed to listen to him on Hotcoldwetdry? Strangely, Climate Change News hasn’t responded, nor has the Nation writer John Nichols.

Pelosi: We Should Totally Investigate Whether Those Planned Parenthood Videos Are Fake

On one hand, this is like investigating the life of a woman who has made a credible accusation that she was raped (something Hillary did all the time to those Bill raped/sexually assaulted). On the other hand, this could be a good idea

(The Blaze) Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said during an interview Sunday that doesn’t believe the undercover videos that purport to show the sale of fetal tissue by Planned Parenthood officials are real, and they should be investigated.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday morning, the Minority Leader said the videos led her to want an investigation. But while social conservatives have been been calling for an investigation as well, Pelosi wants to investigate the anti-abortion group that has been behind the videos, the Center for Medical Progress — not Planned Parenthood.

“And I think they should be investigated as to how they obtained those and doctored those and then had them be accepted as something that was an indictment against Planned Parenthood because that’s not true,” Pelosi told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

While it could be argued that Pelosi wants an investigation that violates CMP’s constitutional rights, including freedom of speech, let’s consider that this investigation could, and most likely would, show the exact way CMP took the videos, and, here’s the important part, would officially determine whether any unacceptable doctoring of the videos occurred. Of course, one can actually see and watch the entire video collection themselves, along with the shortened ones (hey, does the media ever take video and shorten them?). Has Nancy Pelosi watched any of them?

What will Nancy and other Democrats do when it is determined by The Government, be it one or more Congressional panels or the Department of Justice (gee, an investigation by the DOJ might violate a few Constitutional Amendments, eh?), that the videos say exactly what we all know they say?

Obama Says Religious Freedom No Reason To Deny Others Their Manufactured Rights

Perhaps Mr. Obama should actually take a look at the Constitution now and then, because it doesn’t mean what he thinks it means

(CBS News) Freedom of religion isn’t reason enough to deny any American their constitutional rights, President Barack Obama said Sunday as he addressed members of the LGBT community, one of his major sources of political and financial support.

Speaking at a Democratic Party fundraiser, Obama said it’s important to recognize that some parts of the country remain uncomfortable with same-sex marriage and that it will take time for them to catch up to the majority of Americans who support such unions.

But while Americans hold dear the constitutional right to practice their religion free from government interference, he said that right can’t be used to deny constitutional rights to others.

Nowhere within the Constitution does it say that marriage, including gay marriage, is a Right. But, it does say “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;…” It also says something about “free speech” and “petition for redress of grievance”, which Obama’s IRS has worked hard to violate.

“We affirm that we cherish our religious freedom and are profoundly respectful of religious traditions,” Obama said during remarks that were interrupted by repeated applause and cheers. “But we also have to say clearly that our religious freedom doesn’t grant us the freedom to deny our fellow Americans their constitutional rights.”

“And that even as we are respectful and accommodating genuine concerns and interests of religious institutions, we need to reject politicians who are supporting new forms of discrimination as a way to scare up votes. That’s not how we move America forward,” he added. That was an apparent reference to some of the Republican presidential candidates.

The Constitution also says something about “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.” Obama seems to be violating that, as he has taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Flipping it around, gay marriage is no reason to force someone to violate their deeply held religious beliefs. Obama’s essentially saying that those religious beliefs must be violated for the “rights”, ones that do not appear in the Constitution, of others. Instead of promoting equal rights for all, he is elevating the legislative/court imposed rights of certain people over the 1st Amendment Rights of others.

We’re Saved: Paris Has Car Free Day (sort of)

It’s all about spreading awareness, ya know

Paris has car-free Sunday ahead of Cop21 climate change conference

For the first time ever the centre of Paris was car-free all day long on Sunday, in a bid to promote cleaner forms of transport in a festive atmosphere. The future goal is to become like Brussels where a car-free day takes place every year in 19 districts of the city.

Private cars were not allowed to drive through the centre of Paris between 11.00am and 6.00pm on Sunday.

Outside this zone, cars were allowed to drive at 20km/hour maximum, while taxis, buses and residents could use “green zones”.

So, no private cars in this small area for a whopping 7 hours. Plenty of government vehicles, of course. And, on a Sunday, where the traffic is much lighter. Which made Warmists mad

“The fact that a Sunday was chosen doesn’t help,” wrote Olivier Razemon. “At the end of the 1990s every year on 22 September on World Car-free Day, Paris and other cities really made an effort to limit traffic. As the date was fixed, the restrictions could fall on a Friday or a Tuesday. It is not without significance that this forced drivers to adapt and, once a year, try new ways of getting around.”

Do these Warmists know they can give up their own fossil fueled travel for every day? Oh, wait, they just want to force Other People to comply.
