Making People Consider Their Legacy Is The Secret To Making People Care About Hotcoldwetdry

More psychological claptrap from the Cult of Climastrology, as explained by two youngsters

Here’s the secret to making people care about climate change
Make them think about their legacy.

Here’s a depressing statistic if you’re worried about climate change: 63 percent of Americans say they’re concerned about the issue, but only 47 percent think the government should do anything about it.

That divide, known as the “attitude-behavior” gap, isn’t all that uncommon. And activists and politicians have tried all kinds of strategies to address it. They’ve appealed to people’s better nature (“Help save the children!”) and to their self-interest (“You’ll get a tax write-off!”).

Each of these methods can work under certain conditions, but both have their limitations. What if there were a way to combine the best aspects of each — to use an appeal that simultaneously targets self-interest and our desire to help others in need? Our research suggests a promising way to do just that — by encouraging people to consider their own future legacy.

It’s so easy! Why haven’t Warmists been doing this? Oh, right, they have been. For 25+ years they’ve trotted out this position, that we need to Do Something in order to protect the future.

Philosophers, religious figures, and others have long recognized the role that a desire to be remembered positively can play in motivating beneficence and kindness toward others. These self-serving desires are often harnessed to great effect in politics; our research suggests that their reach could be much wider with a little creativity and effort.

Unfortunately for these researchers, a goodly chunk of people will think “my kids and future generations will think I’m an idiot for Doing Something about anthropogenic climate change, damaging the economy, increasing the cost of living, and putting massive restrictions on their lives, all for an issue which was never proven scientifically.”

This dovetails nicely with the recent pushes on how to Make People Care in other ways, because providing actual facts has been a loser, because the facts are less than reality, and all the future DOOmmongering has failed.

“How Donald Trump Is Like Liberace”

That’s the actual headline by Daily Beast writer Ciro Scott. Is this piece big news? A deep reflection of the man? No and no. But, it did catch my attention and amuse me

Send the illegal immigrants home. Bar the door to Muslims. Kill the media.

Mucho macho Donald Trump loves to talk tough. Real tough for a guy who deferred his way out of serving his country in the Vietnam War and then made shameful comments about a real American hero, John McCain.

But the truth is the shoot-from-the-puckered-lip billionaire is kind of a girly man, popping his pampered pompadour into angry rallies on his private jet.

Weird dyed hair. Fake white teeth. Heavy faux-tan makeup. A phobia about touching other human hands. Catty comments about women celebrities. Turning bitchy at the least perceived slight. Anal about everything. A bromance with Russian action hero Vladimir Putin.

The guy who gives so many white men a political erection and thrills the thongs off so many white women is a diva in gray flannels.

I’m not going to defend Trump nor agree with Mr. Scott. I really don’t care one way or the other when it comes to Trump. I prefer Cruz first, Rubio second, and Bush 3rd (believe it or not). I do have to wonder how many of the younger folks reading the article are going “who the hell is Liberace?” It’s kinda like talking about Elvis. Even someone of my generation really only has brief memories of him performing. I remember seeing him on TV as someone my grandparents watched, and might pop up on the new or entertainment the parents would watch. Here’s a shot of him I found

Would an outfit like that increase or decrease Trump’s polling?

American males who have been shouted down and silenced by oppressive political correctness have found a hero who is unafraid and unfettered. Someone who can say what they can’t.

I know this is meant to be a dig at Trump and those “American males”, however, this is a primary reason for Trump’s popularity. He’s not afraid to Say Things, things other politicians won’t. He refuses to cower to Democrats and the media, much like so many Republicans. There’s gotta be a reason Trump stays on top even after saying things that would kill other Republicans. Heck, how to account for him having a plan to build a wall, but also to provide amnesty for illegals?

American women of a certain breeding—the sort who used to mob Liberace—love Donald’s celebrity; his delicious digs at Rosie O’Donnell, Heidi Klum, and Megyn Kelly; his tasteless opulence; his girlish opinions on beauty contests and TV romances. Presidential politics is much easier to tune into when it is a flamboyant, drama-a-minute reality show.

True. Let’s remember all the fainting women, and a few men, at Obama rallies in 2008. Let’s remember the grandiose campaign rallies, with all the pomp. Let’s remember the snit fits, like “can I just eat my waffles, guys?” Let’s remember the Greek columns during his acceptance of the Democratic nomination.

The article ends thusly, and the rest should be read, because, despite the comparison to Liberace, it takes a few shots around the horn of candidates

The depressing choice for America could turn out to be: big-mouth girly man or a fast-and-loose-with-the-truth manly girl in the White House.

Yes, that last one is Hillary.

Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

Daily Beast: How Liberals Are The New Autocrats

It pleases me to no end when people notice that today’s liberals, particularly the noxious far left, made up of Progressives, Socialists, Marxists, and even Anarchists (yes, they are), and wholly in control of the Democratic Party, notice their Big Government inclinations. In this case, the Daily Beast’s Joel Kotkin

This could be how our experiment with grassroots democracy finally ends. World leaders—the super-rich, their pet non-profits, their media boosters, and their allies in the global apparat—gather in Paris to hammer out a deal to transform the planet, and our lives. No one asks much about what the states and the communities, the electorate, or even Congress, thinks of the arrangement. The executive now presumes to rule on these issues.

For many of the world’s leading countries—China, Russia, Saudi Arabia—such top down edicts are fine and dandy, particularly since their supreme leaders won’t have to adhere to them if inconvenienced. But the desire for centralized control is also spreading among  the shrinking remnant of actual  democracies, where political give and take is baked into the system.

Yes, I ran across this while searching news on ‘climate change’.

The will to power is unmistakable.California Governor Jerry Brown, now posturing as  the aged philosopher-prince fresh from Paris, hails the “coercive power of the state” to make people live properly by his lights. California’s high electricity prices, regulation driven spikes in home values, and the highest energy prices in the continental United States may be a bane for middle and working class families, but are sold as a wonderful achievement among our presumptive masters.

This autocratic impulse is very much present among the Cult of Climastrology, which looks to force Other People to practice what Warmists preach, yet mostly fail to implement these same measures within their own lives. They want Big Government control of people, economies, energy, private entities, yet, interestingly, fail to notice that this will effect themselves. This is all what Kotkin notes as the Authoritarian Impulse

Under President Obama, rule by decree has become commonplace, with federal edicts dictating policies on everything from immigration and labor laws to climate change. No modern leader since Nixon has been so bold in trying to consolidate power. But the current president is also building on a trend: Since 1910 the federal government  has doubled its share of government spending to 60 percent.  Its share of GDP has now grown to the highest level since World War II.

Democrats yammer about democracy and voting rights and getting signatures for petitions and such, but they seem to be intentionally ceding all their collective citizen power to unfettered elected officials and unelected bureaucracies, investing them with this autocratic power, which is one of the main points of Progressivism.

Today climate change has become the killer app for expanding state control, for example,  helping Jerry Brown find  his inner Duce.  But the authoritarian urge is hardly limited to climate-related issues. It can be seen on college campuses, where uniformity of belief is increasingly mandated. In Europe, the other democratic bastion, the continental bureaucracy now controls ever more of daily life on the continent. You don’t want thousands of Syrian refugees in your town, but the EU knows better. You will take them and like it, or be labeled a racist.

This domineering autocratic/Progressive (nice Fascist) impulse is alive and kicking among the Democratic Party, and even the protests, such as Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter, have this same Big Government fondness.

Anyway, it’s a very long article, well worth the read, which ends by noting that the United States will soon no longer be able to fulfill a world leader role as a beacon of freedom in world dominated by centralized tyranny, because the U.S. would be the same. “Nice Fascism” is about the Central Government doing things “for your own good”, but it is still tyranny.

Climate Activists Can Learn A Lot From Black Lives Matter!!!!

What is it they will learn? The violence? The shrieking? The exclusionary tactics? Rioting? Arson? Looting their own neighborhoods?

Climate Activists Can Learn a Lot From Black Lives Matter

(Lots of one sided discussion about Tamir Rice and Black Lives Matter)

Of the many lessons the climate movement can draw from the one for black lives, this might be the most valuable. Building on a scaffolding erected by Al Gore and his ilk, mainstream climate activists have for years billed their battle as one for the truth, believing that if they tell the truth, the people (and the politicians) will follow. But faced with disappointments like the Paris agreement, more environmentalists are coming to realize what many organizers in the movement for black lives already knew: that changing anything means building a big, brash movement. And doing that means talking about people, not statistics.

In other words, they have to tell more shrieking lies.

As the movement for black lives already understands, dismantling racism is not about proving racists wrong. Climate change will not be solved by convincing climate deniers of their own idiocy. Each are about power and affecting near-tectonic shifts in national values and priorities: Whose lives matter? Who controls our future? What does security mean amidst rising tides, and who deserves it?

How many times have I written that this is about power, and not science?

Surprise: Senator Chris Murphy (D) Lies About Mass Shootings

As Vox Day notes, the first law of social justice warriors is that they always lie. Then they continue the lie, and build on the lie in order to push The Narrative forward. Here’s a perfect example

(Breitbart) On December 31 Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) claimed there were 372 mass shootings–or more than one mass shooting a day–during calendar year 2015. On the other hand, Mother Joneseditor Mark Follman reported four mass shootings for the whole year and USA Today reported approximately 22.

What accounts for the jump from from four–or even 22–to 372? The jump is the result of Senator Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) complete rejection of the FBI criteria for a mass shooting. That criteria is four fatalities in one shooting incident. Instead of using this, Murphy has adopted the criteria of Shooting Tracker, a website which labels any shooting or series of shootings a “mass shooting” if there are four or more injuries.

There does not have to be a death, and the injuries do not have to be the result of just one shooting incident but can be the result of numerous incidents added together. This means Senator Murphy counts a parking lot shootout–like the one WMC-TV reported between two groups of people in two separate cars in Memphis, Tennessee in October–as a “mass shooting.” And it also means that an Elkhart, Indiana, parking brawl involving over a 100 people–where some of those people pulled guns and opened fire–counts as a “mass shooting” too. The South Bend Tribune reported that “four individuals were found to be wounded” in that October 14 brawl.

Murphy also inflated the number of deaths by including the shooters themselves, an example of doubling down on the lie to continue The Narrative.

With all these gang related shootings, one might think we have a gang problem, not a gun problem.

Meanwhile, our semi-retired president plans to unilaterally enact some executive actions on gun control, which will pretty much do nothing except make Liberals Feel Good.

“President Obama failed to pass his anti-gun agenda though congress because the majority of Americans oppose more gun-control. Now he is doing what he always does when he doesn’t get his way, which is defy the will of the people and issue an executive order,” said NRA spokesperson Jennifer Baker.

“This is nothing more than a political stunt to appease anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg and will do nothing to increase public safety. The plain truth is that President Obama’s gun-control agenda will only make it harder for law-aiding citizens to exercise their constitutional right to self-protection. It will not stop criminals.”

If guns are the problem, why does Obama surround himself with large numbers of people carrying guns? Isn’t that dangerous?

Europe Shouldn’t Give In To Xenophobia Of Refugees Or Something

The Washington Post’s Editorial Board, which features members who live in neighborhoods which will never see placement of even small numbers of these “Syrian” refugees, is in high dudgeon over the growing rejection of the refugees in Europe

Europe cannot allow xenophobia to overpower its response to refugees

CHANCELLOR ANGELA Merkel of Germany walks a very narrow tightrope in managing the gravest crisis to hit Europe in years. As more than 1 million refugees from Syria and North Africa streamed into Germany in 2015, Ms. Merkel was firm in her resolve to welcome them. “It is important not to follow those who, with coldness or even hate in their hearts, want to claim Germanness solely for themselves and exclude others,” she said in her year-end address.

Ms. Merkel’s instincts have been right, both as a humanitarian response to the tide of misery and as an opportunity to build a stronger Germany. But she faces deep and serious unease in her own political camp over the influx…

Can someone explain how allowing hundreds of thousands of people who do not speak the language, have few to no skills, and have completely different cultural standards into a country will “build a stronger Germany”? Sure, many may assimilate, but, many won’t, as witnessed by the large number of Muslim communities throughout Europe which gather together in enclaves and live lives completely different from the norms and culture of their host country. There’s little assimilation. They demand that their host country allow them to practice their own laws and customs, which are often in violation and direct contradiction of the laws.

That’s how we end up with the Rotherham rape epidemic.

The WPEB also notes the rising “xenophobia” in Sweden, which is one of the most Progressive/Socialist country’s in Europe, and how they have supposedly shut their borders, which all leads to

However, Germany, Sweden and all Europe should not succumb to rising xenophobia. As long as the Syrian civil war continues, the refugees will keep coming, and European nations cannot seal themselves off. Nor should the United States, which has been deficient in welcoming refugees from Syria. The only way to truly stop the tide is to stop the war. That should be the focus of European and U.S. policymakers in 2016.

Let’s look at a few headlines, shall we?

I could continue on for quite a bit, however, you get the point. Norway is holding classes, which are sadly voluntary, on how to treat women and not rape them. Citizens across Europe in some communities are seeing vast amounts of these refugees placed in their towns. In some cases, the refugees outnumber the original members of the towns, and bring violence, rape, theft, and trash.

Perhaps the people Speaking from their high and mighty towers would be willing to accept these refugees in their own neighborhoods? Yeah, we know they won’t.

Review: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

I was finally able to find the time to go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens this afternoon. I caught the 3D viewing, and, I’ll say that the hype was worth it.

As you might remember, when I find a movie to be really good, I do not go into a long review of it. It’s more of a recommendation. Despite many of the discontinuities relating to the Expanded Universe, and, let me tell you, I’ve read the majority of the books, excluding the young adult and graphic comics, all the way up through the end of the Fate Of The Jedi series. These are now considered the “Legacy” universe, and there several discrepancies for what they are called the “canon” universe with The Force Awakens (what purists would call the “non-canon”). Some names are wrong, some characters are different, some characters are missing, some things that happened in the legacy are different. Heck, in the legacy Chewbacca was dead for 9 years. Beyond that, would be spoilers.

But, really, I liked this enough to look past the discontinuities. This was a really good movie, hearkening back to the spirit of the original A New Hope, followed by Empire and Jedi. No cute gimmicks like Ewoks, or Jar Jar Binks. Great characters, great acting, a great plot. J.J. Abrams did a damned fine job in putting the story above explosions and un-needed action. In 3D, directors often overdo it with the action, which makes it difficult to watch. That was not the case here. The 3d added value.

Daisy Ridley was a delight, as was John Boyega. They had emotion, and did not seem wooden like in so many of the prequels. Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, the Bad Guy, brought something different. He didn’t play it as pure evil. In fact, all the acting was great, even the non-humans in costume and CGI were excellent.

I’ll give this one my highest rank, go see it in 3D during the full price evening showings.

I’d love to see them do a few on the beginnings of the Jedi, moving into the war with the Sith.
