CEI Files Suit Against Warmists US Virgin Islands AG

There’s a price to pay for attempting to infringe on people’s 1st Amendment rights

(Free Beacon) A libertarian nonprofit group is seeking damages from the U.S. Virgin Islands’ chief law enforcement officer, alleging a politically motivated legal campaign designed to stifle the group’s policy advocacy activities.

Attorneys representing the Competitive Enterprise Institute filed a motion in a Washington, D.C. court on Monday alleging that Virgin Islands Attorney General Claude Walker violated a D.C. law designed to prevent frivolous legal actions targeting policy groups’ rights to free speech and government redress.

Make sure to read the whole thing, which one would think would put an end to these legal system abuses by members of the Cult of Climastrology, but, we all know that they do not care, and will continue their assaults on the Constitution .

Good News: Ontario’s Climate Tax Will Only Cost $13 A Month

Government models (snicker) tell us so

(Toronto Star) Ontario’s new climate-change plan will cost the average household $13 a month — far less than a carbon tax that would have meant a monthly hit of up to $107, according to an internal report on the scheme.

Premier Kathleen Wynne’s cap-and-trade proposal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enshrined in legislation expected to pass Wednesday, will drag on the economy by 0.03 per cent in 2020.

Growth forecast to be 11 per cent between 2015 and 2020 will be adjusted downward to 10.97 per cent, having roughly the same effect on the provincial economy as a statutory holiday.

That’s according to a government draft obtained by the Star of the “impact modeling and analysis” of Ontario’s new carbon-pricing program being done along with Quebec and Ontario.

In other words, when the Real World invades, the costs will surely go up at least three to four times. When has a government program actually been at the projected cost? Especially when these taxes start spreading through the economy, and businesses have to raise their prices? And businesses will have carbon caps, which means either reducing service or increasing costs.

As well, it points out more than 50 different “carbon-intensive” industries, including auto manufacturing, cement, chemicals, forestry, iron and steel, and petroleum, face some risk under the forthcoming regime.

Environment Minister Glen Murray insisted Monday that that’s why the government will have “transitional assistance” to help businesses adjust to the new reality of polluting less.

You know what they do? Move. Close down. They mostly won’t be looking for “transitional assistance”. And then people are out of work. Then there’s this

(Daily Caller) To reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that activists tell us will lead to problematic warming, Ontario has become the first jurisdiction in North America to permanently ban coal-fired electricity generation. The consequences are important for Americans to note.

In 2002, when coal provided about 25 percent of our electricity, Ontario had the lowest electricity prices in Canada. We were the nation’s powerhouse with hundreds of thousands of well paid, manufacturing jobs.

Today, with no coal-fired power at all, our electricity rates are 318 percent higher and at least 300,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last 15 years. Tom Adams, independent energy researcher and former board member of the Ontario Independent Electricity Market Operator explains that, although there were several factors that contributed to this fiasco, closing down coal, a flexible, reliable and moderately priced source of supply, was the single most important cause.

The article goes on to note that wind turbines are being forced upon citizens and communities, even on those who were promised that they wouldn’t be forced on “unwilling communities”. They’ve lowered property values, and are shown to cause health issues. The government doesn’t care.

The question that should be put to all climate change activists, people who want to close our least expensive, most efficient power plants in the name of “stopping climate change,” is simple. Are the largely unpredictable problems of people yet to be born more important that the very real problems climate mitigation policy is now causing our most vulnerable citizens? The answer would be most inconvenient.

Of course, Warmists do not care. All this does is increase the size and power of government, which is their purpose. Strangely, they never seem to realize that this will negatively effect their own lives.

BTW, the liberal government won’t confirm the report that shows they want to eliminate the use of natural gas, one of the least costly and most efficient home heating methods, and that the plan would require that homes built after 2030 not include natural gas. Going off natural gas can increase costs by $2000 a year, and converting can cost over $4500.

Both Clinton And Trump Work To Woo The Other Side Of The Political Aisle

There are two pieces of interest at the NY Times. The first is an opinion piece by Emma Roller, which is about Hillary’s conservative cred

Can Hillary Clinton, Goldwater Girl, Win Over Republicans?

….

Now she’s the one running for president. The Goldwater Girl chapter is in the past, though it is something the veteran Democratic politician talks about as formative to her political identity. “My political beliefs are rooted in the conservatism that I was raised with,” she said in a 1996interview.

What can Hillary Clinton’s past as a Goldwater Girl tell us about her effort to win over Republicans in the general election?

The Clinton campaign seems to be subtly tapping into her conservative past in the hopes of appealing to anti-Trump Republicans in the general election. In recent weeks, her campaign has started courting Jeb Bush’s donors, and has sent out a flurry of news releases playing up the “risk” posed by a Donald J. Trump presidency and quoting Republicans who have voiced concerns about their presumptive nominee.

Of course, this is all minor wooing. She isn’t changing her positions, and she’s not blowing off her party’s base. She isn’t expecting Republicans unhappy with Trump to campaign for her, show their support of her, or even vote for her. She’s surely expecting them to just not vote for Trump. She’ll highlight that Trump is beyond the political beliefs of Conservatives and Republicans. As so many Trump followers note, refusing to vote for Trump helps Hillary.

Then we have this, from the front page of the NY Times in the news section

Donald Trump Borrows From Bernie Sanders’s Playbook to Woo Democrats

Donald J. Trump recently coined a dismissive nickname for Senator Bernie Sanders: “Crazy Bernie.”

But that has not stopped Mr. Trump from borrowing lessons from Mr. Sanders — the Vermont senator whom he also frequently praises from the stump — on how to run against Hillary Clinton, his likely opponent in the general election.

On a range of issues, Mr. Trump seems to be taking a page from the Sanders playbook, expressing a willingness to increase the minimum wage, suggesting that the wealthy may pay higher taxes than under his original proposal, attacking Mrs. Clinton from the left on national security and Wall Street, and making clear that his opposition to free trade will be a centerpiece of his general election campaign.

During the general election time, candidates do want to woo: the want to appeal to independents, interest groups, and even pick off some who traditionally vote for the other party, all while making sure they keep their own folks on the reservation.

Here’s one difference, though: Hillary isn’t going to change her positions. They will be Democrat positions. Trump is actually moving to the left of Hillary on many issues, and taking straight up Democrat party positions on others. He’s not attempting to woo Conservatives and Republicans. And he’s set a tone with his supporters to brand any GOP voter who refuses to vote Trump as cuckservatives, Demoncrats, and traitors. Those are just three of the words I’ve been branded with for refusing to throw my support behind Trump. And the more this all happens, the closer I become to #NeverTrump. I would prefer it to be #NeverHillary. But, I can only abandon principles for pragmatism so far.

Bathroom Wars: Father Plans Stunt To Allow Son In Women’s Rooms At School

In the guidance letter the Obama administration sent out via the politicized Department of Justice on the gender confused, which threatened to take away federal funding, they said that students must be allowed to use the bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers of their “gender identity”. The letter also forbids any measure which proves that gender identity. As a sidebar, the guidance doesn’t force schools to allow boys who identify as girls to be allowed on girl’s sports teams and such, and visa versa for girls who identify as boys. It’s just bathrooms, changing rooms, and showers. The whole letter violates federal law, but, hey, when has that stopped Team Obama? And one dad wants to make a point

(WTVD) A father in Fayetteville who supports House Bill 2 is planning a protest over the controversial law.

The dad, who asked not to be identified beyond his first name, told ABC11 that he’s petitioning Cumberland County Schools to let his 12-year-old son use the girls’ bathroom at John Griffin Middle School anytime he feels like it.

He did admit that his plan is a publicity stunt to prove his point.

The stunt is based on that DOJ guidance letter, and

The father came up with the idea after his son asked him if boys can start using the girls’ bathroom. The dad says he and a number of other parents fear for the safety and dignity of their sons and daughters if they share restrooms.

He goes a bit too far in stating that there will be assaults, which I doubt would happen. But, then, kids are cruel. They rarely have the moral filter that adults should have (meaning that a goodly chunk of Democrats are still kids). So far, though, he has not presented a petition to the Cumberland County school system, so it seems more of a “spreading awareness” campaign, designed to highlight just how silly it is to allow boys into the girl’s rooms. I doubt that he will actually submit any petition, he is simply making a point that if his son wants to use the girl’s showers, he should be allowed, if the son says he feels like a girl that day, and no one In Charge can stop him, based on that DOJ letter.

People Are “Self-silencing” On Hotcoldwetdry Or Something

Apparently, no one actually wants to talk about climate change, so it’s time for some psychological mumbo jumbo

(Washington Post) If you want to understand why it is that on a planet wracked by climate change, people still don’t talk much about climate change, then this may be the key: They’re people.

Or, more specifically, they’re evolved social mammals who are acutely attuned to how they are perceived by the other evolved social mammals around them — and reasonably so, because those perceptions greatly influence their own lives.

Such is the upshot of new research on why people “self-silence” when it comes to climate change, just published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology by Nathaniel Geiger and Janet Swim of Penn State University. In a nutshell, Geiger and Swim find that people are often afraid to talk about climate change with their peers because they wrongly think those peers are more doubtful about climate change than they actually are. This incorrect perception — which the authors dub “pluralistic ignorance” — then makes people fear that others will think they’re less competent, and thus, view them with less respect, if they bring up the subject or talk about it.

Or, it could be that most people just really don’t give a rats as about the subject.

Socialism Is Working Wonders In Venezuela!

We already know many of the problems of Venezuela. The socialism has caused power reliability issues, despite being a major oil producer. They are having food riots, can’t keep toilet paper on the shelves, and no one even produces beer anymore. This is all being run by strong-arm authoritarians, who crack down on the media and any dissent by the citizens. Then there’s this

Dying Infants and No Medicine: Inside Venezuela’s Failing Hospitals

By morning, three newborns were already dead.

The day had begun with the usual hazards: chronic shortages of antibiotics, intravenous solutions, even food. Then a blackout swept over the city, shutting down the respirators in the maternity ward.

Doctors kept ailing infants alive by pumping air into their lungs by hand for hours. By nightfall, four more newborns had died.

“The death of a baby is our daily bread,” said Dr. Osleidy Camejo, a surgeon in the nation’s capital, Caracas, referring to the toll from Venezuela’s collapsing hospitals.

The economic crisis in this country has exploded into a public health emergency, claiming the lives of untold numbers of Venezuelans. It is just part of a larger unraveling here that has become so severe it has prompted President Nicolás Maduro to impose a state of emergency and has raised fears of a government collapse.

The word “socialism” doesn’t appear within the article, but, the NY Times does note

The crisis is aggravated by a political feud between Venezuela’s leftists, who control the presidency, and their rivals in congress. The president’s opponents declared a humanitarian crisis in January, and this month passed a law that would allow Venezuela to accept international aid to prop up the health care system.

So, you have those on the political “right” (they aren’t that right) who want to help the country, and those on the left who reject the help, and want to control. It’s a long, long, long article on the utter failure of left-wing politics.

Climate Weenies Held Protests Against Fossil Fuels Sunday

And many were arrested

(ABC News) At least 57 climate change activists were arrested in conjunction with the so-called “Break Free” protests against the use of fossil fuel.

The bulk of the arrests took place in Washington state this morning, when 52 activists were cited for trespassing on railroad tracks, according to the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management. One person was cited for resisting arrest. The other five arrests took place in Albany on Saturday on similar grounds.

In Washington, approximately 150 people had spent the night camping out on railroad tracks that lead to two refineries, according to a spokesperson for BNSF Railway. The protests were peaceful, according to the spokesperson, and the majority of activists obeyed a request to leave the tracks at 5 a.m. PT today.

The Break Free protests represent part of a “global wave” of action taking place across six continents over 12 days targeting “the world’s most dangerous fossil fuels,” according to a statement published by the organizers earlier this month.

I’ve perused many, many articles on this, and not one reporter asked any of the protesters two simple questions:

  • Did you take a fossil fueled vehicle to this protest?
  • Have you given up your own use of fossil fuels in your own life?

Warmists really do not like questions like that. They say they are immaterial, because “we all have to make sacrifices in our lives”, meaning that Government must be empowered to force these changes. It also means that they know they are hypocrites, and unwilling to practice what they preach, so, they need to change the conversation.

How’d they get there? There’s a second tweet at the article noting that California Warmists want an end to fracking, so, it’s not just oil they want eliminated, but natural gas, too, which provides a tremendous amount of power for things like heating and cooking, among others.

That photo (from Erik McGregor/Pacific Press) leads the story. Notice how many things required the use of fossil fuels. The smartphones were shipped either on a fossil fueled plane, truck or boat. The same with all the clothing. Many of those signs are plastics. Petroleum! I see plastic glasses, both frames and lenses. They all look well fed and (relatively) clean, thanks to all those dirty fossil fuels which allowed the creation of a 1st World Nation. Funny how these same people want to deny a modern, clean, well fed life to people in 3rd world crap holes.

Man Who Lives Behind Walls Whines About Building Walls

When you invite one of the nastiest, most abusive politicians in all of American history to be your commencement speaker, expect him to be nasty

(AP) President Barack Obama on Sunday urged college graduates to shun those who want to confront a rapidly changing world by building walls around the United States or by embracing ignorance, as he delivered a sharp and barely concealed critique of Donald Trump.

Obama used his commencement speech at Rutgers University to illustrate a world view antithetical to the ideas espoused by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Looking out at a sea of red and black gowns, Obama told the roughly 12,000 graduating students that the pace of change on the planet is accelerating, not subsiding, and that recent history had proved that the toughest challenges cannot be solved in isolation.

“A wall won’t stop that,” Obama said, bringing to mind Trump’s call for building a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. “The point is, to help ourselves, we’ve got to help others — not pull up the drawbridge and try to keep the world out.”

The president never mentioned Trump by name, but his intended target seemed clear. Repeatedly, Obama referred to disparaging comments about Muslims and immigrants, and opposition to free trade deals. But he appeared most incensed by what he described as a rejection of facts, science and intellectualism that he said was pervading politics.

Obama whined on and on and on, because he surely thought that Rutgers graduates, on one of the biggest days of their young lives, wanted to listen to a political speech better reserved for a DNC fundraiser.

But, seriously, what about walls? Obama lives behind a big fence, one which the Secret Service wants to make bigger. Five feet bigger. And the security for the fence, an attempt to keep the world out, includes armed security, many with sniper rifles.

Apparently, walls work, because Team Obama is funding a wall on the Tunisia/Libya border to stop the flow of Islamists. There’s also partial funding for a wall in Jordan. And supposedly one in Niger to stop Boko Haram.

Perhaps Obama should have spent some time explaining how to be less than average on gross domestic product growth and how the graduates will be competing for minimum wage jobs in the service industry, thanks to Obama’s awesome policies.
