We Don’t Need Actual Science, Because We Can See ‘Climate Change’ On Our TVs Or Something

Can someone tell Michael Mann that we weren’t really get actual science to start with?

(Washington Times) Leading climate doomsayer Michael Mann recently downplayed the importance of climate change science, telling Democrats that data and models “increasingly are unnecessary” because the impact is obvious.

“Fundamentally, I’m a climate scientist and have spent much of my career with my head buried in climate-model output and observational climate data trying to tease out the signal of human-caused climate change,” Mr. Mann toldthe Democratic Platform Drafting Committee at a hearing.

“What is disconcerting to me and so many of my colleagues is that these tools that we’ve spent years developing increasingly are unnecessary because we can see climate change, the impacts of climate change, now, playing out in real time, on our television screens, in the 24-hour news cycle,” he said.

Interesting. Sir Isaac Newton published his law of universal gravitation in 1687. Everyone could, and still can, see it in action. Yet, scientists still perform Science in exploring gravity. Einstein did lots of work on gravity, as have others. I guess doing science was still important. In the world of the Cult of Climastrology, I science is apparently not necessary. Not that many were doing actual science in the first place. Well, political science. But not science science.

Surprise: Joe Romm Says Climate Change Caused Brexit

Most Warmists have been Very Concerned with Brexit as it could derail their Big Government push with implementation of the Paris Climate accord. Now we get something even more fun

(Daily Caller) It only took four days after U.K. voters chose to leave the European Union for a liberal climate scientist and eco-activist to blame the whole event on — you guessed it — global warming.

Joe Romm, a climate scientist and writer for the liberal blog ThinkProgress, wrote an article Monday arguing the so-called “Brexit” and the rise of GOP candidate Donald Trump are driven by global warming.

“We’ve known for a while that there are scientific tipping points beyond which certain climate impacts — like the collapse of the West Antarctic ice sheet or the thawing of the carbon-rich permafrost — become unstoppable,” Romm wrote. “But it appears there may also be political tipping points, where certain climate impacts cause so much widespread harm simultaneously that they simply fragment the world.”

Here’s where it gets really good, and Romm makes his main “point”

Romm goes on to argue the Brexit movement was largely fueled by “scaremongering around the Syrian refugee crisis” — a crisis he says caused by global warming. Romm wrote:

The Syrian migrant crisis “had an outsized impact on the Brexit,” as NBC News political director Chuck Todd said Friday. You can see that in the pro-Brexit poster from the U.K. Independence Party (above) — which became a major advertising campaign of the referendum — featuring thousands of male refugees streaming from Croatia into Slovenia last October.

Warmists are, of course, blaming the Syrian migrant crisis on Hotcoldwetdry, rather than on things like a brutal strongman ruler, Islamic extremism and, well, that’s mostly it. And Joe keeps going and going and going, wrapping up with

Brexit and Trumpism make plainly — and painfully — visible that even rich, democratic nations deal poorly with a moderate amount of refugees, immigration, and economic dislocation. Imagine how we’ll deal with the 100-fold escalation of those problems if we fail to stop catastrophic climate change.

I’m not certain there is much middle ground in the global struggle between unity and disunity. Either the world works together to keep total warming well below 2°C — or our disunity leads to catastrophic warming and further global disunity not seen since the fall of the Tower of Babel.

Since the fall of the Tower of Babel!

Gun Control Is Totally About The Children Or Something

Democrats are very enthused over implementing massive amounts of gun control, and have no problem blowing off American citizen’s Due Process rights, too boot. They seem to relish it. Today, they are supposedly holding their “Days Of Action” to keep their anti-Constitution push going. Rep Elizabeth Esty (D-Conn) wants to “treat gun violence as an urgent public health crisis.” Funny how this crisis seems to heavily involve Democratic Party voters in Democratic Party run areas. And extremist Muslims. But, we aren’t allowed to talk about either group. Then there’s this op-ed piece by Richard Salmony

(News and Observer) It is 3 a.m., and I’m wide awake. I’ve got a busy clinic in the morning and should be sleeping, but all I can think about is the safety of my boys, who are 5 months and 4 years old. The horrific imagery of the Orlando shooting is racing through my mind. Memories of Columbine, Sandy Hook, Paris, Brussels, San Bernardino and other countless violent acts have become a permanent part of the landscape of our society.

You probably shouldn’t live in the heavily Democratic Party area known as Durham, NC. Or at least stay out of certain areas. This Dem run city has a crime rate of 5, meaning it is safer than 5% of other US cities. That’s a Bad Thing. It’s violent crime rate (7.49) is over double that of both the national (3.8) and North Carolina (3.3) rates. The murder, rape, assault, and robbery rates are all above the national rates. Of course, there’s nothing else to do but slap restrictions on law abiding citizens who need to protect themselves in Democratic Party run areas

Gun control is an issue about the safety of children everywhere. It should have no relationship to partisan politics or be subject to political pressures. Local and national leaders must put aside political aspirations and think about the one thing that always matters – the life of a child.

Taking the position that gun control will not help is shameful and shortsighted. The fact that a person investigated by the FBI for potential terrorist links is capable of buying any type of firearm, let alone a military-style assault weapon, is preposterous.

Using the phrase “military-style assault weapon” is political. And using children as props is shameful and partisan, considering that the same people pushing to restrict the Constitutional rights of law abiding gun owners, both the right to own and their Due Process rights, cheered when the Supreme Court shot down Texas’ laws that required abortion centers to operate under the same medical standards as medical facilities. They loves them some unborn baby killing!

But, please, tell me more how all this gun control will keep children safe. In science, one comes up with a hypothesis, then tests it to see the outcome. In business, they do something similar. They note the problem, lay out the task to deal with it, and what the results are expected to be. Fortunately, we have testing sites to look at, and see their results. Places like California, Chicago, D.C. Baltimore, Orlando, NJ, and many other Democratic Party run areas, which all feature heavy restrictions on law abiding citizens, all which feature heavy amounts of crime and shootings and murders. Meanwhile, those who need to defend themselves are the ones who have their rights taken away.

Why is it that Democrats always want to disarm the law abiding citizens, rather than going after the actual criminals? Democrats work super hard to protect criminals, not the law abiding citizens, not the ones who need to defend themselves, not the ones who have been attacked.

It is time for government leaders to act. Set politics to the side. Outlaw the public sale of military-style weaponry now. Requiring background checks before allowing the purchase of firearms is imperative. Anyone should agree to this step in the right direction. This is a growing problem, and our children deserve so much better than what we are providing them.

Very few attacks use “assault rifles”. Background checks are already required. To claim otherwise is “shameful” partisanship. Remember, the same people who want to take away Due Process and 2nd Amendment rights want to give convicted felons back their voting rights. Go figure.

Everybody Panic! Global Warming May Be Worse In The Future Than Thought

Brought to you by the same people who’ve been proclaiming ever worsening doom and gloom, and when it doesn’t come to pass, they say it is coming much later. Oh, and the same people whose computer models have consistently failed

Global warming may heat up Earth more than expected in future, predicts scientists

Earth could get much warmer than expected in future, say scientists who have reconstructed past global warming and carbon cycle on earth 56 million years ago.

Global warming from greenhouse gas emissions depends not only on the size of the emissions, but also on the warming effect that the extra amount of gas has on the atmosphere.

“The research shows that climate sensitivity was higher during the past global, warm climate than in the current climate, said Gary Shaffer, professor at the University of Magallanes in Chile.

“This is bad news for humanity as greater climate sensitivity from warming will further amplify the warming,” said Shaffer, also a professor at the Niels Bohr Institute of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Meanwhile, the use of fossil fuels is so bad that a Warmists thinks….Warmists should keep using them till they magically come up with something else

Climate change skeptics, and those who favor the continued use of fossil fuels, continually fall back on the argument that those who continue to rely on fossil fuels – that is, virtually all of us – are hypocrites for wanting to evolve away from them. They seem to be saying:  “I am a hypocrite for heating with gas, and if I truly believe in the use of renewable technologies, then I should turn off the heat, cut the power and let the sun shine through my windows for heat and light.”

Can we once and for all put that argument to rest?

(Silly argument from the Warmists here)

We will, for a time, continue to rely on combustion-based manufacturing in order to produce the very solar panels and other renewable technologies that will eventually replace combustion-based manufacturing and energy generation. How quickly that happens is up to all of us.

So, being a hypocrite is OK, because, someday something will replace fossil fuels.

Speaking In Mogadishu, Hillary Calls Gun Control A Civil Rights Issue

And by Mogadishu, I mean Chicago. It used to be that Detroit was referred to as Mogadishu, due to all its shootings and murders and crime. I think it’s safe to move the title to Chicago

Hillary Clinton Calls Gun Control A ‘Civil-Rights Issue’ In Chicago Speech

Speaking in Chicago Monday, Hillary Clinton called gun control a “civil-rights issue” and slammed Donald Trump as “incoherent” and selfish.

Clinton, the likely Democratic presidential nominee, in delivering the keynote speech at a Rainbow PUSH convention luncheon, said, “I am convinced the tide is turning” on “common-sense” gun control.

“Things are so broken” in the political system, Clinton added, that it took a ’60s-style protest just to call for a congressional vote on gun control. The former U.S. secretary of state, U.S. senator and first lady went on to call it a “civil-rights issue.”

Clinton blamed the gun lobby for working to prevent legislative votes. “They know what I know,” she added. “The vast majority of the American people” support stricter gun laws.

The irony of Hillary giving this speech in Chicago, with its massive gun control rules, regs, and laws, is breathtaking

Shot and killed: 295
Shot and wounded: 1626
Total shot: 1921
Total homicides: 328

And that was just through yesterday, including the 4 killed, 11 shot in Chicago Monday. All this gun control is working wonders in Democratic Party run areas like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, and California, among others, wouldn’t you say?

Of course, Hillary doesn’t worry, because she is surrounded by people carrying guns, including ones that are illegal to own by citizens.

Democrat Platform Super Enthused To Prosecute Climate Skeptics

The Democratic Party platform is going to be a doozy of hardcore Progressivism, as one can expect

(Daily Caller) Democratic operatives responsible for creating their party’s platform this year have unanimously adopted a provision calling for the Department of Justice to investigate companies who disagree with Democrats on global warming science.

A panel of Democrats voted Friday to approve a final draft of the party’s platform to promote “Progressive Democratic Values,” which apparently includes investigating energy companies who “misled” shareholders about global warming.

“Another joint proposal calling on the Department of Justice to investigate alleged corporate fraud on the part of fossil fuel companies who have reportedly misled shareholders and the public on the scientific reality of climate change was also adopted by unanimous consent,”according to the Democratic National Convention’s website.

The drafting committee, led by DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, has decided to back ongoing investigations by mostly Democratic state attorneys general into ExxonMobil’s stance on global warming.

In other words, this is all politically motivated, pushed by people who won’t give up their own use of fossil fuels, often refuse to give up the fossil fuels companies donations, and surely have fossil fuels in their own portfolios. They’re excited to use the power of Government to intimidate, harass, and prosecute people and companies for daring to have Wrongthink. And that’s what this is, because the investigations have been fishing expeditions based on nothing more than supposition. There has to be some bit of proof that there was actual fraud, not a difference of opinion. We still have a Constitution, no matter how much Democrats would like to do away with the protections afforded to the Citizens.

It will be interesting to see how this is written once the full final draft is released. The hand of Bernie Sanders and his people is strong in helping to draft the platform, so let’s not forget that his plan specifically states “Bring climate deniers to justice so we can aggressively tackle climate change.” This is not focused just on fossil fuels companies, so the appearance here is that the Government will come after anyone who dares hold an opinion contradictory to the Cult of Climastrology.

The platform itself, as the draft highlights show, is a hotbed of Big Big Government, and even pushes for Universal Health Care and more open borders, along with making sure an abortion is easy to get.

Post-Brexit, EU Debated The Important Issues. Like Weeds

The big shots in the European Union are renowned for getting involved in all manners of tiny issues, attempting to put their stamp of Governmental Control on just about everything. They’ve implemented controls on TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, and vacuums, among others. Recently, they were coming after tea kettles, toasters, and other small household appliances, in order to ecodesign them. Surprisingly, the NY Times notes that this continues in the shadow of Brexit (bold mine)

Less than 24 hours after Britain threw Europe’s postwar order into disarray last Thursday by voting to leave the European Union, dozens of officials from the bloc’s 28 member countries and its executive arm met behind closed doors in a drab Brussels office block to discuss the urgent issues at hand.

The meeting ended without a decision, however, and was followed on Monday by more inconclusive and confidential wrangling in the Albert Borschette Congress Center in Brussels.

The main issue under discussion was not Brexit, as Britain’s departure from the bloc is called, but another divisive cause embraced by British foes of the European Union: the freedom to use certain types of weed killer.

While Berlin, Europe’s de facto capital, has hosted crisis meetings in recent days to discuss how to respond to Britain’s vote, Brussels, the putative capital of Europe, has stuck doggedly to its own stately rhythms. On Friday and Monday, it plowed ahead with arcane debates about weeds, fish, organic farming and other subjects that have come to form the substance of the so-called European project.

This scrutiny of technical minutiae has turned the European Union into a regulatory superpower, allowing it to help set norms and standards used around the world. But that tight focus has crippled its ability to grapple with big issues or to engage with many ordinary people. As the British vote showed, many people feel no connection with what began as an idealistic peace project after World War II, but is now widely viewed as a meddling and undemocratic bureaucratic machine.

Is it any wonder that sentiment is rising in many other EU member states to leave the EU? The Times article continues on to note that the EU will finally discuss Brexit Tuesday, but only after sticking to the original agenda on “migration, investment, and other matters”. People are getting very tired of meddlesome bureaucrats in the Central Planning Office getting involved in every aspect of their lives, dictating this and that and the other.

They’re sick and tired of it on this side of the Atlantic, as well.

Voters Ultimately Divided On Banning Scary Looking Guns

Despite all the caterwauling by Democrats in their quest to limit the Constitution Rights of citizens (2nd, 4th, 6th, and so on), along with their sit-in cry-fest, the American public is just not ready for their brand of gun grabbing

(NBC News)  With gun policy taking center stage on Capitol Hill in the aftermath of the June 12 mass shooting in Orlando, Americans still remain lukewarm to sweeping gun control compared to the mid-1990s, when public opinion propelled a 10-year assault weapons ban into law.

Fifty percent of voters say that they are concerned that the government will go too far in restricting the rights of citizens to own guns, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, while 47 percent said they were more concerned that authorities would not do enough to regulate access to firearms.

And therein lies one of the big problems: Government. We could implement better measures to restrict firearms from people who really should not have them, namely terrorists, those who have show a propensity for getting involved in radical Islamist movements, and a few other very limited folks, but, there is a serious concern that Democrats will use these powers to deny law abiding American citizens their 2nd Amendment rights based on bureaucratic say-so. Especially as Democrats are uninterested in Due Process, and are thrilled with the prospect of making citizens guilty till proven innocent.

A ban on the sale of the semi-automatic firearms referred to as assault weapons remains relatively popular, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, with 51 percent of voters supporting such a ban while 31 percent oppose it.

Quick, which one can do more damage?

What’s more, asked now how they would describe a proposal to ban the sale, voters are split on whether the ban would be worthwhile.

Forty-five percent said an assault weapons ban would be “worth it because it is one more step that could be done to try to reduce the number of casualties and save lives.” Forty-nine percent said such a policy is “NOT worth it because it will not stop the attackers from getting the weapons they need.”

Since few shootings use a rifle, what would be the point, other than banning those scary looking weapons, which allow women to protect themselves with lighter, more weidly guns?
