DNC Rather Un-enthused To Release Their Own Donor Lists

Since the Citizens United ruling, Democrats have thundered on about the need for sunlight and transparency when it comes to donors. They’ve caterwauled about secret lists of people and companies donating “dark money”, and they want it stopped. They want to force donors to be exposed. Well, not their own donors, of course. Republican donors.

(AP) The host committee for the Democratic National Convention wants to keep its donor list under wraps until after the convention even though a state open records agency has ordered its release.

A Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee lawyer told a judge Thursday the release of fundraising records could harm the organization’s last-minute efforts to seek donations and negotiate vendor contracts.

They always have an excuse as to why their donors should be kept secret while Republicans should be published. Why? Many reasons. One of them is certainly so the individuals, groups, and companies can be targeted in a negative manner by Democrats.

Another is surely that many of the donors are big moneyed individuals and companies, ones that Progressives despise, and the DNC would prefer that their unhinged base not know about this.

Regardless of the reason, the DNC is, as typical, refusing to practice what they preach. Don’t forget, their platform calls for repealing Citizens United, and Hillary wants a Constitutional amendment to kill it. It also calls for the end to dark money. Yet, they won’t even release their donor list when it is required by law. Go figure.

Trump Makes His Acceptance Speech

I’ll admit that I did not watch all of it, just snippets for a few minutes at a time. Reading the transcript, though, is very, very different from having seen it on TV. You truly lose the flavor, which, IMO, seemed angry and bellicose. Perhaps I missed the parts where Donald was soft. Rather than reinvent the wheel, let’s go to Leon Wolf at Red State

But as the speech wore on, Trump quickly reverted to the angry, yelling monotone of Will Farrell’s “voice immodulation syndrome” character from Saturday Night Live that characterized his prior teleprompter performances. And combined with the actual rhetorical content of this particular speech, it made for a long, depressing, angry night.

By the time Trump was about 20 minutes into the speech, you were left with the impression that you lived in some third world hellhole and you never knew it before tonight. Although Trump was saying words that probably appeal to the majority of Americans about supporting the police, he finished repeatedly with promises that he, personally, would “RESTORE LAWWW AND ORRRDER” which ought to have raised the hackles of anyone with a single libertarian cell in their body.

Then things got ugly when Trump veered off script for the first time during the speech when discussing the Syrian refugees and angrily declared “WE DON’T WANT THEM IN OUR COUNTRY!!” The tone of Trump’s delivery got progressively worse and angrier the longer he went into his speech, to the point that by the end, he even sounded angry and confrontational when he was discussing the fact that he loved his family.

Even the crowd seemed confused about how to respond emotionally – or perhaps they were simply under the effect of some sort of bizarre mass hypnosis….

Watching the audience, they did seem confused. During the pauses, both planned an unplanned, many were just sitting there. Many broke out into chants of USA USA time and again (something you’ll never hear at the DNC), yet many were looking around, unsure as to what was going on. I don’t think I’ve ever hear a campaign speech from a presidential candidate like this one. This should have been the time to humanize Donald, to show his soft side, his caring, his ability to lead. Instead, what was probably passionate came off overly angry.

I’ll liken this to corporate trainers who speak really really loud. Have you ever had one? I’ve been in a few like that, and you start losing interest in listening to what this person who is YELLING AT YOU is saying.

Yes, there were times to be angry. Islamic terrorism for instance. But, it can’t mostly be loud. This was the speech the hardcore Trump supporters wanted, not the one needed to truly introduce Trump to the country as the GOP candidate.

It all leads to the question, what did they undecideds think? What of those who are on the fence regarding voting Republican against Hillary? Did this sway #NeverTrumps, or harden their position?

Here’s another point Leon Wolf makes

What was depressing to me – but by no means surprising – is that there was almost no attempt to articulate or defend the ideas of limited government or liberty under the constitution. As Aaron noted, Trump barely bothered to even mention the words (and didn’t mention “liberty” at all). Moreover, almost all of the concepts Trump mentioned throughout his speech of necessity involved expanding both the scope and intrusion of the Federal government.

This is something I’ve mentioned several times, here and on Twitter, as well as in Real World conversations. What are Trump’s notions of liberty, freedom, limited government, and adherence to the full Constitution? He doesn’t talk about this much.

Nor did Trump attempt to reach out to “heal the divisions” that arose during campaign season, and have even continue since Trump gained the necessary number of delegates. It’s not up to the aggrieved to heal nor put those aside. And Trump will need all the Republicans who are on the fence, and even those who are #NeverTrump to win. His hardcores work overtime to insult people who haven’t jumped on the Trump train. Trump could fix this. He doesn’t, and seemingly won’t.

Now, we await the polls to see if the speech moved the needle.

What are your thoughts?

The GOP Outsourced Judicial Nominations To The NRA Or Something

Democrats have a fevah and it’s more and more gun control, ie, taking a means of personal protection away from law abiding citizens, leaving them at the mercy of law breakers, often emboldened by Leftist gun and legal system policies. And, the NRA drives them bonkers, as we see in this NY Times opinion piece by Linda Greenhouse

How the G.O.P. Outsourced the Judicial Nomination Process.

The massacre of children and teachers in Newtown, Conn., didn’t do it. Neither did the mass murder of worshipers in Charleston, S.C., nor of county employees in San Bernardino, Calif., nor of people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. Nor, most likely, will the recent coldblooded murders of police officers persuade the Republicans in Congress to enact even modest measures to make it harder for people to get their hands on weapons of destruction.

Funny how the last two didn’t persuade Leftist that perhaps the is a problem in Islam.

If the affirmative act of passing legislation is out of reach, it seems to me that there is one thing an aroused and disgusted public ought to focus on: reclaiming the judicial confirmation process from the National Rifle Association.

Over the past seven years, Senate Republicans have outsourced the confirmation process to the gun lobby. This is not hyperbole, but fact. The N.R.A.’s instant and evidence-free denunciation of Judge Merrick B. Garland, President Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy, may have appeared to be just piling on, since Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, had already announced that no nominee would even be granted a hearing. But in fact, it was merely the tip of the iceberg.

Missing is that Judge Garland had four chances to vote with the 2nd Amendment, and voted against it all four times.

Regardless, this is all about how the GOP is in the pocket of the NRA, to which I say: “so what?” The NRA is standing up for the Constitution, and not just the 2nd Amendment. If any judge is willing to betray, to go against the 2nd Amendment, might they be willing to do the same with the others? A judge who is unwilling to uphold our founding documents, which set the Way Government Acts, should not be anywhere near a courtroom.

Furthermore, let’s consider that the Democrats have sold their souls to be in the pockets of other interest groups, such as the entertainment industry, trial lawyers, public and private sector unions, but they all pale in comparison to their worshiping at the feet of abortion groups like Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and Emily’s List. There is no issue more important to Democrats than being pro-abortion. There is no minor restriction on abortion that they will allow.

  • Restricting non-relatives from taking an underage girl across state lines to have an abortion? Dems say “hell no!”
  • Requiring parental notification? Dems say “hell no!”
  • Restrictions on late term abortion, even close to the due date? Dems say “hell no!”
  • Requiring any medical standards at abortion facilities? Dems say “hell no!”
  • Shutting down protests and Free Speech by pro-life citizens? Dems say “hell yes!”

Whenever a Republican nominates someone for a judgeship, the very first thing Democrats will trot out is their position on abortion. They can couch it in any term they like – pro-choice, a woman’s right to choose, women’s health, etc – but, it is all the same: a deeply held belief that the unborn can be casually discarded for convenience.

Let’s also not forget that Dems align themselves with Islamic radical groups. They are thrilled by Iran getting nuclear weapons. They align themselves with groups that want to wipe Israel off the map, and often push for this same thing. They align themselves with Palestinian terrorists. They align themselves with the communist movement, which has killed hundreds of millions. They aligned themselves with Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers. They align themselves with horrible people like Tookie Williams, who murdered a police officer. They align themselves with the worst elements of Black Lives Matter, and denigrate police officers.

Those would be the same police officers that are supposed to protect citizens after the citizens have been disarmed. Go figure.

So, liberals can spare me their indignation about the NRA when they align themselves with baby killers and others.

Energy Department Super Enthused For International Agreement To Phase Out HFCs ‘Cause ‘Climate Change’

The Cult of Climastrology has been gunning for the phase out of HFCs for years, slowly ramping up their opposition, and now they are going for an international agreement, as we see from Gina McCarthy, head of the EPA, and Earnest Moniz, head of the Energy Dept, in a post written at the Energy Dept blog

A “Cool” Way to Combat Climate Change under the Montreal Protocol

World climate leaders are meeting this week in Vienna for the next stage of international discussions about a global phase-down of climate-damaging hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

This meeting should lay the foundation for a 2016 amendment to the Montreal Protocol – a hugely successful global agreement that has put Earth’s fragile ozone layer on track to full restoration. A 2016 amendment would leverage the same proven mechanisms that helped fix the “ozone hole” to address another serious risk to the planet – HFCs.

When scientists discovered the “ozone hole” in the 1980s, they uncovered a tangible health risk to people and the environment. The ozone layer of our upper atmosphere is a natural sunscreen that protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays. A massive and growing “hole” in the ozone layer threatened to drive up skin cancer rates, harm marine life, ruin crops and even degrade wood, plastic and other construction materials.

The 1987 Montreal Protocol mandated that countries phase out ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and similar chemicals used widely at the time for air conditioning and refrigeration. With 197 countries signing on, it was the first UN treaty to achieve universal ratification in the United Nations.

Getting rid of CFCs was the right thing to do, as they were damaging. HFCs, as I’ve noted before, are also damaging, being a bit more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2. So, hey, let’s run full bore into forcing the use of alternatives!

However, to phase out CFCs, countries needed viable alternatives. As ozone-depleting chemicals were phased out, many sectors began moving toward hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) – chemicals that performed well as refrigerants and were significantly healthier for the ozone layer. But like the chemicals they replaced, HFCs are still damaging to our climate system. In fact, they are hundreds to thousands of times more powerful in warming the planet than carbon dioxide. Rapid growth in the use of HFCs threatens to undo much of our progress in reducing other carbon emissions under the Paris Climate Agreement.

The problem here is that most of the alternatives are Unacceptable!!!!!!!! to Warmists/Enviroweenies, and many of the ones that are Acceptable!!!!!! to them are either much more expensive, dangerous in other ways, or don’t exist at this time.

If we succeed, we could avoid up to 0.5 degree centigrade of warming by the end of the century by shifting towards other, less harmful alternatives. Avoiding that half-degree is crucial for limiting global temperature rise to below 2 degrees centigrade and avoiding the most severe impacts of climate change.

Um, Obama’s entire energy plan will only avert temperature rise by 0.001 Celsius per year. If all the nations of the world did this, would it actually add up to .5C? Highly doubtful.

U.S. leaders will take the results of a newly-published Department of Energy report, The Future of Air Conditioning for Buildings, to Vienna. It documents air conditioning’s explosive growth worldwide, especially in developing nations, which could lead to huge increases in the use of HFCs and emissions of greenhouse gases. The report finds that air conditioning energy consumption in countries not part of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) could rise 4-1/2 times 2010 levels by 2050 – emitting more HFC greenhouse gases and undercutting the Paris Agreement. Substitute chemicals are available to avoid the use of HFCs and their global warming impacts.

Warmists who live in HFC cooled homes with HFC refrigerators and drive to work places with HFC cooling systems in vehicles which use other refrigerants (which are also on the Warmist chopping block) seem pretty upset that people in 3rd World Nations might get the same benefit. Why won’t these big wigs, who also fly in airplanes with HFC cooling systems, give up their own use of A/C and refrigerators?

From back in 2015

A global deal is proving elusive, however. Poorer countries and those in warmer climates have concerns about the reliability and expense of substitutes, which can cost ten times as much as the climate-threatening chemicals they replace. Advocates fear a new ban may boost the black market for HFCs. Chemical makers including Chemours Co. have found a significant amount of the refrigerants in use in some regions are labeled as the newer, safer products, but are actually older, cheaper products harmful to the environment.

HFCs are used in refrigerators, fire suppression systems, air conditioners, and other systems. But, hey, on the bright side, these Warmists are also looking to kill off the use of low cost old-school energy methods in the developing nations, so, there’s little to no energy for fridges and AC systems to start with.

The smart thing to do would be to develop low cost, viable, dependable alternatives first. But, Warmists like putting the cart before the horse, and the horse is still in the barn.

Typical Leftist Protester Sets Self On Fire While Trying To Burn American Flag

Liberals love desecrating the American flag. Walking on it, tearing it, dropping it to the ground, setting it on fire. Of course, they’ll tell us that they really love America, they’re just doing it because they hate everything the country stands for. They’re protesting! Jammie Wearing Fool calls this the feel good story of the day

(CBS New York) Police arrested 17 people Wednesday after a melee broke out during a flag-burning in the streets outside the Republican National Convention.

Among those arrested was Gregory “Joey” Johnson, whose torching of the flag at a GOP convention three decades ago led to the landmark 1989 U.S. Supreme Court decision that said flag-burning is speech protected by the First Amendment.

Moments after the flag was set on fire, officers charged in to put it out with an extinguishing spray that some in the crowd thought was pepper spray because of similarities in the design of the canisters and the eye irritation caused by the fire-suppression substance.

“You’re on fire! You’re on fire, stupid!” a Cleveland officer shouted at a protester while firing the extinguishing spray.

Oops. Sadly, no video or pictures of the actual moment. It was all hidden by the crowd, but, you can kinda see what was all going on here

https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet/status/755931701654786048

“Burn that rag! Burn that rag!” supporters of the group yelled.

Carl Dix, a representative of Revolutionary Communist Party, said the group organized the burning of the American flag as a “political statement about the crimes of the American empire. There’s nothing great about America.”

Only in Liberal World, folks. You won’t see Republicans/Conservatives burning the American Flag at the DNC, nor any types of the wackadoodle protest stuff we see from Leftists in Cleveland.

Hot Outrage Of The Day: Trump Might Look To Purge Obama Appointees

I actually had a fun little ‘climate change’ story teed up, but, hey, things move fast, especially during a campaign season and a convention week, and this little story amused me

Exclusive: Trump could seek new law to purge government of Obama appointees

If he wins the presidency, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would seek to purge the federal government of officials appointed by Democratic President Barack Obama and could ask Congress to pass legislation making it easier to fire public workers, Trump ally, Chris Christie, said on Tuesday.

Christie, who is governor of New Jersey and leads Trump’s White House transition team, said the campaign was drawing up a list of federal government employees to fire if Trump defeats Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 presidential election.

You’re probably wonder why Trump would need a special law to terminate people who essentially serve at the pleasure of the president. In most transitions, the appointees, other than a select few, such as Supreme Court justices, simply leave. A few might be kept on if they were particularly good at their jobs, as a way of smoothing feathers, if they are rather non-partisan, or a combo of all three. The president can still let them go later, or suggest that they leave their post to spend more time with their families.

Trump’s transition advisers fear that Obama may convert these appointees to civil servants, who have more job security than officials who have been politically appointed. This would allow officials to keep their jobs in a new, possibly Republican, administration, Christie said.

“It’s called burrowing,” Christie said. “You take them from the political appointee side into the civil service side, in order to try to set up … roadblocks for your successor, kind of like when all the Clinton people took all the Ws off the keyboard when George Bush was coming into the White House.”

Would Obama do this? If you think the chances are minimal, you haven’t been paying attention the past 7+ years. Heck, if he wasn’t, it would have occurred to him and/or his advisers soon enough. Shame that Christie had to give them the idea early.

Of course, places like the NY Times, Vox, Daily Kos, and Balloon Juice are having fits, with more available at Memeorandum.

Here’s a better idea (not that the above one is bad): Trump should state that he will have manpower studies done on federal agencies, looking for things like over-redundancy, over-duplication, and non-essential positions, much like in the private sector. Slim the federal government down through attrition. Someone leaves, you just do not replace the position if it is un-needed.

Say, Why Has The Debate Cooled Off Regarding ‘Climate Change’?

Over at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a few Warmists are Very Concerned that ‘climate change’ has been such a miniscule issue this campaign season, and they wonder why that is

Why the Climate Change Debate Has Cooled Off in the U.S. Election Season

As the Republican National Convention got underway on Monday in Cleveland, Ohio, the issue of climate change was conspicuous by its near total absence from the agenda.

The U.N. summit on climate change in Paris last December raised global awareness about the impact of climate change, both in the run-up to the conference and soon thereafter. But little has been achieved in the seven months since then by way of follow-up action in the U.S. and elsewhere, according to the experts. Distractions have been plenty in the U.S. and Western Europe since then, including Brexit, the influx of migrants, terrorist attacks, issues relating to the economy and the U.S. presidential elections.

However, the presidential election season is an opportune time to address climate-change issues, according to Howard Kunreuther, Wharton professor of operations, information and decisions, and co-director of the school’sRisk Management and Decision Processes Center. “The principal point is we need to have a dialog with the two [presidential] candidates about how they feel about climate change,” he said. It is also important for the candidates to acknowledge “that there is a lot that we know about it that should be put on the table,” he added.

When it comes down to it, the GOP mostly doesn’t care, and neither Trump nor Hillary really care about. Oh, sure, Hillary mentions it at her website, but, quick, think about when she really talks about it. Is this something she mentions much? How about in the past? She may be a Believer in anthropogenic climate change, but, it is not an issue that moves her. Heck, for all we know she may be a skeptic, simply throwing out the duckspeak of her unhinged base.

Why Is Everybody Quiet?

Michel-Kerjan said he had expected the subject of climate change to continue to be actively discussed in global forums after the Paris accord, given the positive mood at that time and the general feeling that “everybody moved in the right direction.” However, in the run-up to the U.S. presidential elections, issues of unemployment and terrorism have dominated debates, and those of environmental solutions have been sidelined, he noted.

In other words, most citizens really do not care that much, or care at all, especially in light of real issues. This is born out by poll after poll after poll.

Kunreuther said he wasn’t surprised that the discussions on climate change have not kept up the energy levels seen around the time of the Paris accords. He noted that the issue has been “very controversial in Congress and there hasn’t been an effort made to have a very informed discussion.”

Well, are they supposed to have a discussion on an agreement that was specifically create to avoid the need to submit it to Congress for ratification? It’s never been sent to Congress by Obama.

On the other hand, Kunreuther said “the general public is concerned about climate change,” citing studies conducted by Anthony Leiserowitz, director of the Yale Project on Climate Change at Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He said he was surprised that even as public concern about climate change runs high, it hasn’t become one of the issues in the election season.

At the end of the day, though, people really do not care. Especially when you note that implementation of ‘climate change’ measures will reduce their standard of living and increase their cost of living, all for barely any change in global temperatures. And when they see the biggest believers refusing to walk the talk, why should they care?

Chris Christie Lays Out The Case Against Hillary

Chris Christie (I’m no big fan) gave perhaps one of the best speeches against electing Hillary Clinton so far. At the end of the day, that’s very much what this “dumpster fire” election is about: making sure Hillary is not president. For those who are #NeverTrump or I’m-not-sures, we aren’t quite sure what Trump really truly stands for nor what he will do. But, we know what Hillary stands for and what she will do

(ABC News) Chris Christie put on a rollicking show trial of Hillary Clinton at the Republican Convention Tuesday night — leading the audience in Cleveland to shout “guilty!” over and over again in response to his allegations about the former secretary of state.

New Jersey’s governor, a former federal prosecutor, allowed the audience at the Quicken Loans arena to play jury as he presented an “indictment” to them.

“We’re going to present the facts to you, as a jury of her peers, both in this hall and in living rooms around our nation,” the former 2016 presidential candidate said in opening his address to the Cleveland convention Tuesday night.

“I’m going to render a case on the facts against Hillary Rodham Clinton,” he continued.

How did he do this?

Christie made the case that Clinton’s character and her record as secretary of state disqualify her for the nation’s top job, specifically accusing her of “ruining Libya,” being a terrorist apologist for not naming an al-Qaeda affiliate in Nigeria a terrorist group for two years and linking that to the “Missing Girls,” and turning previous words of praise for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad against her.

“She fights for the wrong people, she never fights for us,” he said.

Christie went on to criticize the nuclear deal with Iran, Clinton’s dealings with Russia, and called her a “coddler of the brutal Castro brothers” in criticizing the Obama administration’s reopening of diplomatic relations with Cuba.

NJ.com has the full transcript, and both sources have the video of his speech

We must ask this question: Hillary Clinton, as an awful judge of the character of a dictator-butcher in the Middle East guilty or not guilty? In Iran, she led the negotiations that brought about the worst nuclear deal in history.

Let me be clear: America and the world are measurably less safe and less respected because of the Iran deal Hillary helped cut.

Period. After she launched those negotiations, she became the biggest cheerleader for it at the end.

A deal that will lead to a nuclear Iran, an Israel that will be less safe and secure and much more dangerous Middle East.

Hillary Clinton, as an inept negotiator of the worst nuclear arms deal in American history guilty or not guilty?

It’s well worth the read and the time to watch the video. Just a little more excerpt

We cannot promote someone to Commander-in-Chief who has made the world a more violent and dangerous place with every bad judgment she has made.

We cannot make the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the United States someone who has risked America’s secrets and lied about this to Congress and the American people. (snip)

We know exactly what four years of Hillary Clinton will bring: all the failures of the Obama years, but with less charm and more lies. It is our obligation to stop Hillary Clinton now and never let her within 10 miles of the White House again.

She’s been pretty much wrong about everything during her time as Secretary of State. Her supporters cannot really point to any successes, nor during her time as a Senator. It is very easy to point to her failures, because they are abundant.

One thing he, and so many others have missed, is that Hillary will potentially have a chance to choose several Supreme Court justices in the first four years. You can’t be quite sure who Trump will pick, despite his list, but, you can bet Hillary will choose a hardcore leftist.

Hillary, though, tried to swing back

First, no one has been able to produce solid evidence against Christie. Second, playing games with a bridge pales in comparison to propping up Assad, Benghazi, the Iran deal, blowing off the Arab Spring, and so much more.
