House Democrats Vote To Continue Being The Party Of San Francisco Values

I actually thought the Dems might have been on to something, but, apparently they haven’t lost quite enough federal, state, and local elected positions yet

(The Hill)  House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday fended off a challenge to her long leadership reign, defeating Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) in a closed-door vote prompted largely by Donald Trump’s unlikely ascension to the White House.

Pelosi got 134 votes to Ryan’s 63 — winning 68 percent of the votes after declaring before the election that she had the support of two-thirds of the caucus. The victory sends a message that while there’s a growing appetite for major changes in the party’s leadership structure and messaging tactics, it’s not strong enough to loosen Pelosi’s grip on a liberal-heavy group that’s rarely challenged her authority.

Ryan and his supporters had argued that the Democrats’ grim performance in this year’s elections — the latest in a string of cycles planting Republicans firmly in the majority — was a clear signal that Pelosi’s leadership strategy has failed to attract the broad coalition of voters required to return the Speaker’s gavel to the Democrats’ hands.

Under Pelosi, they’ll continue to be the party that sneers at folks in the Rust Belt, “flyover country”, whatever you want to call these Middle America areas. They’ll be the party of coastal city elites, dilettantes in the Hamptons, celebrities, and people who demand to live off the backs of he work of other people. They’ll be the party of abortion on demand with zero restrictions allow, of gun grabbing, of forcing people to accept the gender confused in the changing rooms with their daughters. The party of Big Government taking more and more money, and liberty. away from citizens. People have gotten smart, and, while so many agree with the Dems in theory, in practice, they know the policies are bad for their own lives.

Senator Coons Kinda Bummed That He Made It Easier To Confirm Appointment

This is sure to be one of those “well, gee, perhaps we shouldn’t have done this under Obama” moments for Democrats when the Era Of Trump starts

(Washington Free Beacon)  Senator Chris Coons (D., Del.) said on CNN Tuesday that he regrets the rule change Senate Democrats made to the nomination process.

“The filibuster no longer acts as an emergency brake on the nomination,” Coons said.

The senator was questioned on the nomination process and the rule changes that senate Democrats had made in order to keep Republicans from derailing their selected nominees.

Coons admitted that Democrats had watered down the nomination process after Kate Bolduan mentioned that Republican’s could now take advantage of the simpler consent process.

“I do regret that. Frankly I think many of us will regret that in this congress because it would have been a terrific speed bump, potential emergency break, to have in our system to slow down the confirmation of extreme nominees,” Coons said.

Democrats made this bed, now they’ll have to lie in it. Sure, they’ll caterwaul and their Compliant Media will backstop them, but, if elected Republicans stay strong (always a dicey proposition), they can use the exact same rules Democrats used to push the Trump/Republican agenda.

Surprise: Climate Ghouls Blame Tennessee Fire On ‘Climate Change’

The Tennessee wildfires have killed at least three and forced over 14,000 out of their homes, destroying over 250 buildings. The cause of the blaze is unknown. Except to the Climate Ghouls, Warmists who take advantage of everything bad that happens to push their cultish beliefs

(Climate Central) Whether climate change will make fires more common in the region is an ongoing area of research. It’s unclear if the Southeast will become wetter or drier due to climate change and that will have a big influence on future wildfire activity.

The region is likely to keep warming, though, and that means that any future dry spells will be more likely to lead to drought, creating more fuel for fires to burn.

(CS Monitor) While scenes of blazing forests and hazy skies are more frequently associated with the drier Western states, wildfires have always burned in Southeastern states despite being wetter and cooler. But the incident this year is noted for its intensity, having occurred during exceptional drought and scarce rainfall for months. Although experts are wary of linking such conditions to climate change, they say that with current climate model predictions of higher temperatures and longer consecutive dry periods, risks for wildfires will increase.

(Mashable) While the proximate cause of this fire may have been human action, perhaps even arson, climate conditions have primed the area for fires.

Those are some of the less insane articles.

NY Times Is Rather Vexed By Trump’s Tweet On Flag Burning

By vexed, I mean apoplectic. Here’s the tweet, if you haven’t seen it

This is what you call an “opinion.” Since it’s coming from the soon to be POTUS, it obviously holds a bit more weight, by, it’s an opinion. I personally disagree with it, holding the opinion that you should be allowed to burn the flag, and, if so, someone should be allowed to punch you in the face once without facing assault charges. That’s me. For the NY Times Editorial Board, it’s Defcon 1

Mr Trump, Meet The Constitution

It should be noted that the subhead on the front page reads “Why is the president-elect afraid of free speech?” Remember all those times the NY Times took Obama to task for when his IRS was abusing its power against Conservative groups? Or any of his other anti-free speech stances?

When Donald Trump, hand on the Bible on Jan. 20, swears to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, we the people will have good reason to doubt he knows what he’s talking about. Consider what he tweeted out on Tuesday:

“Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!”

Here’s where we explain what shouldn’t need explaining. Flag-burning is constitutionally protected speech. The Supreme Court has made this clear, in a ruling joined by Mr. Trump’s favorite justice, Antonin Scalia. It’s popular to want to punish flag-burners — pandering politicians, including Hillary Clinton, have tried. But the First Amendment exists to protect unpopular, even repulsive forms of expression. As the Supreme Court said in a 1990 decision finding a federal law against flag-burning unconstitutional, “Punishing desecration of the flag dilutes the very freedom that makes this emblem so revered, and worth revering.”

So, they go on in this fashion for awhile (the Washington Post Editorial Board is also having a snit fit, to go with so many other media outlets), ending with

He tweets, he posts, he incites. He trolls. He commands a global platform and will soon be America’s commander in chief. But it has to be said, and said again: This is not normal. It demeans the presidency.

We could play the “well, why weren’t you upset when Obama did it” game, but, hey, lapdog media. Let’s note one word: trolls. And consider something Newt Gingrich said

“[The Apprentice] was a remarkably popular show,” Gingrich told Fox News host Jenna Lee during the interview. “[Trump] understands the value of tension. He understands the value of showmanship. And candidly, the news media is going to chase the rabbit. So it’s better off for him to give them a rabbit than for them to go find their own rabbit. He’s had them fixated on Mitt Romney now for five or six days. I think from his perspective, that’s terrific. It gives everyone something to talk about.”

Trump tweets, and the Democrats and their Compliant Media immediately jump to some sort of high level Moonbattery. Trump is most likely playing with them with tweets like the flag burning one. It sets them off on their chase for the white rabbit. Trump’s not going to attempt to get Congress to pass a law on flag burning. He won’t waste time with executive action. He probably sat around Tuesday and laughed at how easy the Leftist media is, and is getting a chuckle out of it today. A separate article in the NY Times shows some may get it

“Media would be wise to stop hyper-coverage of Trump’s tweets — they distract, distort and debase,” Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation, said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

The historian Fred Kaplan declared, “It’s time to ignore his tweets,” echoing others who wondered whether Mr. Trump’s provocative statements were a deliberate effort to distract journalists.

But, most will take the bait. They can’t ignore it, and it’ll send them, and, more importantly, the opinion writers and editorial boards into Moonbat Level 10. Which will provide great amusement for us for years to come.

Fake News: Washington Post Attempts To Protect All Those Rapey Refugees In Europe

As you surely know by now, there has been quite an epidemic of crime in European nations from all the Middle Eastern and African migrants (refugees, whatever) who have streamed into the nations over the past 10-20 years, and especially in the past few years. Sexual assaults, including rape, along with misogynistic attitudes (the real ones, not the ones that invoke the patriarchy because a guy pees standing up), have skyrocketed, and, usually, these are things that hardcore Liberals are over-the-top concerned with, beyond the normal outrage and concern most people have.

But, here’s the thing: in Leftist dogma, Women take a back seat to Muslims, even the violent and/or hardcore (Islamists) ones. At no point is it allowable to point at the small section of Muslims who are a problem. It’s perfectly OK to blame all Conservatives, Christians, Jews, etc, for the failings of a few. But not Muslims. So, we end up with this:

27% of Europeans say rape may be acceptable in some circumstances

A rape victim was drunk? He or she flirted beforehand or wore “revealing” clothing? In some European countries, up to 55 percent of the population says such circumstances would make sexual intercourse without consent justifiable or acceptable, according to a survey conducted on behalf of the European Commission. Overall, about one-fourth — 27 percent — of all Europeans held that opinion.

The number is much higher in Eastern and Central European nations such as Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic. In Romania, more than 50 percent of all respondents said nonconsensual sexual intercourse was acceptable in some circumstances. Although there was a clear divide between Eastern and Western Europe, geography alone does not explain the striking differences. (snip)

The E.U. report comes amid growing concern about recent sexual assaults in European countries by refugees or immigrants. In Germany, mass sexual assaults this past New Year’s Eve led to a stricter sexual-assault law that also eased deportation rules for refugees convicted of sex-related offenses.

And that’s the point of the survey: to absolve all these sexual assulty and rapey “refugees” of their crimes by saying that so many Europeans have the same attitudes.

Of course, there’s one problem: the Europeans aren’t exactly acting on these beliefs like the “rapeugees”. But, that doesn’t matter, because the idea is to say that Europeans are no better than all the criminal and rapey refugees streaming into Europe.

I assume the article came from this survey, which, interestingly, provides no breakdown on the religion or nationality of the 30,000 supposedly surveyed. And this would all be the type of “fake news” the MSM is whining about.

Democrats Need To Embrace Hardcore Climate Radicalism To Survive Or Something

The Week’s Ryan Cooper takes exactly the wrong message away from the election, but, hey, I’m good with this, because it means even more Democrat losses

Why the Democrats need to get radical on climate change

The Democratic Party leadership that set up Hillary Clinton as the 2016 nominee is one of the all-time failures in American political history. Not only did they bobble an easily winnable presidential election, they have overseen a virtual collapse of the party at the state and local levels. Now a climate denier will take office at a time when aggressive climate policy is literally a matter of life and death. (By the way, global sea ice coverage is right now something like eight standard deviations below the average.)

But more than that, Democrats must admit that their previous climate record was also pathetically inadequate. If they wish to preserve the United States in its current form, or perhaps even at all, hardcore climate radicalism must become an ironclad party commitment. (snip)

All this means that when Democrats do manage to claw back power, climate policy is going to have to be aggressive on the order of a total war mobilization to get emissions down in time.

If they get hardcore on Hotcoldwetdry, they might not see power. When stacked against other issues, particularly bread and butter types, it almost always comes in last or next to last. When people have nothing better to do, they might care. Tell them that all the policies to stop Hotcoldwetdry will increase their cost of living, increase their energy bill, increase the cost of food, increase the cost of homes, restrict their freedom, etc and so on, citizens mostly say “no thanks!”

But, hey, Dems, keep pushing things people want nothing to do with. They can end up like the Labor Party in Queensland, Australia.

Court Orders NY AG To Turn Over Climate Change Secrecy Docs

This is pretty bad news for the Cult of Climastrology and Schneiderman in particular

(Washington Times) A court has ordered New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to turn over documents related to a multistate confidentiality agreement on climate change investigations.

New York Acting Supreme Court Justice Henry F. Zwack ruled that Mr. Schneiderman has 30 days to comply with the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s May 5 request under the state’s Freedom of Information Law.

The Democratic prosecutor, who launched last year a probe into ExxonMobil, has fought the request for any pact made with other states or certain environmental activists, arguing that such documents are exempt from disclosure.

Sam Kazman, general counsel for the free market institute, called the court’s decision “a blow to the anti-speech campaign led by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.”

“While the campaign by him and his cohorts that began in March continues against those who disagree with him on global warming, we are glad to see that it is being held subject to the basic laws of the land,” Mr. Kazman said in a Monday statement.

Schneiderman and his co-conspirators might think they can ignore the rulings from judges in Texas, but, not New York, though you can expect that he’ll slow walk this and possibly even blow the ruling off. The last thing that members of the Cult of Climastrology want is transparency in any form or fashion.

“By requiring Schneiderman to fully comply with our freedom of information request, the court is ensuring that agencies cannot use shortcuts as a means of skirting New York’s Freedom of Information law,” he said.

Warmists will use any shady venues to hide their documents. And their data. They are very unhappy in letting anyone see either.

Trump Picks Obamacare Foe Congressman Tom Price For HHS Head

You may or may not like some of Trump’s other picks and potential picks (such as Romney for State, which I think would be a great pick), but this one is outstanding

(Washington Post) President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), a fierce critic of the Affordable Care Act and a proponent of overhauling the nation’s entitlement programs, to lead the department of Health and Human Services, a person briefed on the decision confirmed Monday night.

An announcement of Trump’s selection of Price, a third-generation doctor who chairs the House Budget Committee and became a fervent champion of Trump’s candidacy, is expected to be made as early as Tuesday.

As HHS secretary, Price would be the nation’s top health official and the incoming administration’s point person for dismantling the sprawling 2010 health-care law, which Trump promised during his campaign to start dismantling on his first day in the Oval Office. The 62-year-old lawmaker, who represents a wealthy suburban Atlanta district, has played a leading role in the Republican opposition to the law and has helped draft several comprehensive bills to replace it. The GOP-led House has voted five dozen times to eliminate all or part of the ACA but has never had a chance of accomplishing its goal as long as President Obama has been in the White House.

Price has a very detailed plan, HR2300, Empowering Patients First Act. I like the part about him being from a wealthy suburb. Does the WP write the same thing about Nancy Pelosi and others?

Price has not had executive experience or run an agency. HHS is a sprawling department with a $1 trillion budget. Its Medicare and Medicaid programs affect the lives of more than 100 million Americans young and old. It regulates the nation’s food and drugs. Through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it runs public health programs that reach into every state and around the globe. It is an engine of biomedical research through the National Institutes of Health.

Suddenly, not having executive experience is a Bad Thing. Obama didn’t have any. Nor did Hillary Clinton. Nor many of Obama’s picks. But, in the Era of Trump, this is once again a bad thing.

Vox’s Excitable Sarah Cliff says that Price is exactly the person you pick if you want to dismantle Obamacare

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Health and Human Services Secretary, already has a plan for how to abolish Obamacare.

The Washington Post reported late Monday that Trump intends to announce Price, who currently serves as House Budget Chair, to lead the federal agency overseeing Medicare, Medicaid, and the Affordable Care Act.

Price will arrive with at HHS with a clear blueprint for what comes next: he is the author of the Empowering Patients First Act, one of the most thorough and detailed proposals to repeal and replace Obamacare. He’s the HHS Secretary you’d pick if you were dead serious about dismantling the law.

Unsurprisingly, Cliff attempts to paint the legislation in the worst possible light. Of course, in Liberal World, anything that doesn’t create a single payer system, or at least a “public option”, to replace the failed Obamacare system is evil in their minds. What will Price’s legislation do?

“The Empowering Patients First Act puts patients, families and doctors in charge by focusing on the principles of affordability, accessibility, quality, innovation, choices and responsiveness. Those principles form the foundation of the solutions in H.R. 2300 – solutions including individual health pools and expanded health savings accounts, tax credits for the purchase of coverage and lawsuit abuse reforms to reduce the costly practice of defensive medicine. The solutions in the Empowering Patients First Act will get Washington out of the way while protecting and strengthening the doctor-patient relationship.”

That whole empowering citizens and limiting government thing is obviously 180 degrees against what Liberals want.
