Can you pick out what’s wrong with this?

The Great Barrier Reef located off the coast of Queensland in northeastern Australia, is the largest living structure in the world. It is home to a wide range of life, including fish, sea turtles, giant clam, seahorse, sea snakes, nudibranch, sea turtles, stingray, sharks and many more. Good thing it didn’t die 125,000 years ago.
Researchers from the University of Sydney found that Australia’s natural wonder almost drowned and died during the Last Interglacial period. This period, Yahoo News said, was marked with higher temperatures, which led to melting of glaciers and polar ice sheets, raising sea levels.
Scientists say that both the temperatures and sea levels then were higher than they are now, and they fear that the Earth is headed in the same direction if global warming continues, Morning Ticker reported.
Let’s start with the notion that corals and all the sea life that lives there “almost drowned”. The Yahoo News article mentioned has this quote
“In combination with climate change predictions by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and in the absence of improvements to reef management and human impacts, sea-level pressures could tip the reef over the edge, potentially drowning it for good,†Belinda Dechnik from the university, who was also lead author of the study, said in a statement.
That statement also includes the pithy headline “Great Barrier Reef almost drowned,” as well as several mentions of sea life drowning from ocean heights rising, which brings us to the second issue: what caused the sea rise back then?
But, hey, this is not about science, it’s about attempting to scare people into letting government dominate their lives and accepting increased costs of living.
For the most part, Democrats have avoided campaigning on Obamacare since it was passed. Most did not even want to discuss it. It was a loser topic, which has seen Democrats go from a wildly majority party before the 2010 midterms to massive losses at the federal, state, and local levels. They own this lock, stock, and barrel. So, what do they want to do now?
(Washington Times) After six years of resisting legislative changes to Obamacare, President Obama and Democrats now say they’re ready to work on fixes to the massive health law — so long as they expand the federal government’s role in health care.
With Republicans about to control all the levers of political power and moving to repeal the Affordable Care Act, Democrats are searching for ways to defend the law.
For many of them, that means admitting to flaws in the six-year-old law, and saying they can work with the GOP on fixes — as long as they don’t undermine the central achievements of Obamacare.
Mr. Obama said that means boosting the amount of money the government doles out to help people buy health insurance, and offering government-run plans to compete with the private sector.
“I’d sign on to a Republican plan that said we’re going to give more subsidies to people to make it even cheaper, and we’re going to have a public option where there isn’t an option,†the president said Friday in an interview with the Vox media outlet. “Here’s the problem: I don’t think that’s the thing that they want to do.â€
In other words, they want to double down on Obamacare. The same thing that has seen their party’s fortunes decline precipitously.
Obama did get one thing correct: there should be no repeal without a plan to replace. I know some have said “just toast it and we’ll go back to the way it was.” It’s too late for that. That time was the 2012 elections. Now, there needs to be a plan to make sure people can obtain health insurance if they want it. Of course, lots of healthy people do not want it (their mistake, IMO). And the GOP is going to have to deal with those who received insurance via the Medicaid expansion, which accounted for a majority chunk of the new enrollees.
As far as Obama seeing it? He broke it, he doesn’t get to be involved now. He’s also on his way out the door. Soon to be inaugurated President Trump can, via executive order, trash so many components which were created by HHS. The contraception mandate, the work hours requirement, the number of people in companies requirement, and so forth, can all be sent to the ash heap with the wave of a pen.
The best thing the GOP can do is implement a few rules while relaxing the Federal government’s control of health insurance and healthcare. Why do we need them to be involved in our decisions? Get out of the way and mind your own business.

Out of touch and determined to alienate half the country
(Fox News) Ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, some liberal stars were determined to use the 74th annual Golden Globes to have the last word 12 days before Trump is sworn into office.
During a night that saw “Moonlight,” “La La Land,” “The Crown” and “Atlanta” win big it was the next president of the United States that got the most attention.
Just minutes into the show, host Jimmy Fallon used his time on stage to take digs at Trump after he was forced to improvise for the first few minutes of the show due to a broken teleprompter.
Once his script was up and running, Fallon called the Golden Globes “one of the few places left where America still honors the popular vote.” That, though, isn’t quite true. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a collection of 85 members, has its own methods of selecting winners.
Oops?
Fallon often used the President-elect as a punchline, even comparing him to belligerent and cruel “Games of Thrones” King Joffrey, but Meryl Streep (video at Mediaite) changed the tone of the evening when she launched into a somber speech about Trump.
Streep said Trump’s behavior “sank its hooks in my heart” and she slammed what she called Trump’s “instinct to humiliate.” She asked for a “principled press to hold Trump [accountable]” and to call him out “for every outrage.” Her comments were met with applause, tears and support by her fellow actors in the audience. Actor Chris Pine called her speech the “best message of tonight.”
Excitable Hugh Laurie (you might remember him from House) is even worried that this could be the last Golden Globes, because Trump. If they wanted half the country to tune out, I’m sure they received their wish. And the more they do this, the more people decide they won’t pay the exorbitant prices to go to the movies.
When asked, Trump said he did not watch the Golden Globes, but dismissed Streep as a big Hillary supporter, nor was he surprised by the attacks from “liberal movie people.”

Happy Sunday! A gorgeous day in America, just 12 days to a new era. Will it be good? Will it be bad? Who knows. What we do know is that Obama will be spending his own money on vacations shortly, to the benefit of America. This pinup is by Greg Hildebrandt, with a wee bit of help.
What is happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me
Don’t forget to check out all the other great material all the linked blogs have!
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

If you thought the Chicago torture story wasn’t bad enough, add this heartbreaker
(UK Daily Mail) The aunt of a special needs teenager who was tortured for hours by four friends has told DailyMail.com that he was unable to speak about the attack – other than to repeatedly ask why a friend he idolized had done this to him.
Janet Grant said her 18-year-old nephew, would be mentally scarred by the six-hour ordeal where he was bound, beaten, cut, burned and forced to drink from a toilet.
Brittany Covington, 18; her sister Tanisha Covington, 24; Tesfaye Cooper, 18; and Jordan Hill, 18, have been charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery and a hate crime. Hill attended school with [the victim] for several years.
Speaking on Friday morning Grant said: ‘[The victim] just keeps saying, ‘Why, why? Jordan was my friend. He’s been my friend for a couple of years.’
She continued: ‘They went to school together, they both had problems. He adores Jordan. I don’t know Jordan but [the victim] really liked him. It’s one thing if they didn’t know each other but [the victim] idolized him.’ (snip)
‘He’s got enough problems already. They put cigarette butts out on his head, cut a hole in his scalp. Once they took him to Chicago, he had no meds for four days. He couldn’t even fight back.
‘Physically he’ll heal but mentally…he’ll always be looking over his shoulder. Probably won’t trust anybody. ‘
Stick the animals in jail for a long, long time, away from civilized society.

If it wasn’t for this “quirk”, we’d be totes doomed from all the hurricanes created due to you driving a fossil fueled vehicle and daring to use electricity for Internet
QUIRK MAY SHIELD US COAST DURING BUSY HURRICANE SEASONS
A climatic quirk seems to be slightly shielding the U.S. coast during busy hurricane seasons, often weakening major storms just as they approach America’s beaches, a new study finds.
That could help explain why it’s been more than 11 years since a major hurricane with winds of more than 110 mph has hit the United States mainland.
Oh, and it seems we are “privileged”, too, while other nations get crushed!
“It’s a lucky byproduct for the United States coast,” Kossin said. “It’s really unfortunate that we’re the only ones that seem to be benefiting from this situation.”
Surprisingly, uber-Warmist Seth Borenstein, the article writer, fails to mention ‘climate change.’ But, you know this is a Narrative setter, meant to lead to more Excusemaking for the dearth of hurricanes making landfall on the US coast despite all the prognostications of doom from the Cult of Climastrology. The American Interest notes what the NY Times has to say about this study
When climatic conditions favor a lot of hurricane activity, they also create a buffer zone that weakens the storms as they approach the coastal United States.
Narrative.
