For the most part, the Cult of Climastrology has failed in their doomsaying when it comes to storms. Their constantly changing duckspeak on hurricanes, for example. On tornadoes. On the end of snow. And so much other weather. So, now we get
Climate change will drive stronger, smaller storms in US
The effects of climate change will likely cause smaller but stronger storms in the United States, according to a new framework for modeling storm behavior developed at the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory. Though storm intensity is expected to increase over today’s levels, the predicted reduction in storm size may alleviate some fears of widespread severe flooding in the future.
The new approach, published today in Journal of Climate, uses new statistical methods to identify and track storm features in both observational weather data and new high-resolution climate modeling simulations. When applied to one simulation of the future effects of elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide, the framework helped clarify a common discrepancy in model forecasts of precipitation changes.
“Climate models all predict that storms will grow significantly more intense in the future, but that total precipitation will increase more mildly over what we see today,” said senior author Elisabeth Moyer, associate professor of geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago and co-PI of the Center for Robust Decision-Making on Climate and Energy Policy (RDCEP). “By developing new statistical methods that study the properties of individual rainstorms, we were able to detect changes in storm frequency, size, and duration that explain this mismatch.”
Great. More computer models. The same as looking into a crystal ball. Regardless, it’s all about future doom
“While our results apply to only one model simulation,” Moyer said, “we do know that the amount-intensity discrepancy is driven by pretty basic physics. Rainstorms in every model, and in the real world, will adjust in some way to let intensity grow by more than total rainfall does. Most people would have guessed that storms would change in frequency, not in size. We now have the tools at hand to evaluate these results across models and to check them against real-world changes, as well as to evaluate the performance of the models themselves.”
And, as you’d expect, this is all blamed on Mankind. They take what is a primarily natural process, then blame Mankind, then create computer models to support their pseudo-religious beliefs, then demand all sorts of Big Government solutions. Oh, and more money for “research.”

You can bet that, come January 20, 2017, the Credentialed Media will surely follow the Democrat line that it’s not obstruction, it’s principled opposition
Wow. Obstructionist, do-nothing Senate. That's, like, the most immoral thing ever, right? Right? https://t.co/8QXe44rJDZ
— Starless (@starless941) December 5, 2016
(Politico) Senate Democrats are preparing to put Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks through a grinding confirmation process, weighing delay tactics that could eat up weeks of the Senate calendar and hamper his first 100 days in office.
Multiple Democratic senators told POLITICO in interviews last week that after watching Republicans sit on Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court for nearly a year, they’re in no mood to fast-track Trump’s selections.
Now, in all fairness, what comes around goes around, much in the same way that Democrats might be hoist on their own petard when it comes to the nuclear option. That said, obstruction is a time honored way to make sure, among other things, that the minority party cannot be run over by the majority.
But it’s not just about exacting revenge.
Yes it is.
Democrats argue that some of the president-elect’s more controversial Cabinet picks — such as Jeff Sessions for attorney general and Steven Mnuchin for treasury secretary — demand a thorough public airing.
In other words, demagoguery and character assassination will occur.
“They’ve been rewarded for stealing a Supreme Court justice. We’re going to help them confirm their nominees, many of whom are disqualified?†fumed Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). “It’s not obstruction, it’s not partisan, it’s just a duty to find out what they’d do in these jobs.â€
See? It’s no longer obstruction!
Democrats can gum up the works with procedural delays, but, they will not be able to block any of Trump’s appointments.
That said, the days of mandated bipartisanship for critical nominations are over. Democrats ensured that when they changed Senate rules in 2013 to kill the 60-vote requirement for all nominations except the Supreme Court. Democrats then moved to approve dozens of lifetime judges, though Republicans required procedural votes to stall the nominations as long as they could.
What will be a real hoot is when Trump nominates someone to replace Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court.

One has to wonder if Democrats saw this interview or read about it and went

(Daily Caller) House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said she doesn’t believe people in the Democratic party want to take a new direction during an appearance on “Face the Nation†Sunday.
Despite the Democrats underwhelming results on election night, Pelosi said the party is not questioning its identity.
“Well, I don’t think that people want a new direction. Our values unify us,†she told host John Dickerson. “And our values are about supporting America’s working families. That’s one that everyone is in agreement on.â€
Yet, America’s working families have rather checked out on the Democrats in large numbers. They’ve been losing at the federal, state, and local level since the 2010 elections. Under Pelosi’s leadership (should that be in quotes?), the House has seen historic losses. You can obviously blame that a bit on Obama, but, Obama didn’t suffer himself in 2012. Regardless, she sees no problem with the values of the Democrats, like jacking up the minimum wage which will put so many of the working families on the unemployment line as they are priced out of a job. Or forcing citizens to accept the gender confused in the bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers with their underage daughters. Or all the Special Snowflakes and Social Justice Warriors having fits over everything that causes a little bit of upset, requiring safe spaces and coloring books and demands for fascistic regulations.
Or how the economy is basically hanging on a life line thanks to Democrat policies. Or the poor state of health insurance thanks to Obamacare. Or that they want gun confiscation. Or that they’re policies make citizens less safe from crime. Or that they favor illegal aliens over American citizens. Or that they want to bring in tens of thousands of people from areas rife with Islamic extremism with virtually no background checks. Or etc and so on.
“What we want is a better connection of our message to working families in our country. And that clearly in the election showed that message wasn’t coming through,†she said. “But we are united in terms of the security of our country, which is our first responsibility, to be smart and strong and not reckless in how we protect the American people, strong in how we protect our economy.â€
In Nancy’s World, it’s not that the message is bad, but that they need better distribution. I guess she missed that their message has been propagated via social media directly to the consumer, without the Credentialed Media filter, and it hasn’t helped Democrats.
That said, from a pragmatic point of view, Republicans should hope that Nancy holds the course.

Happy Sunday, the first in December as we creep towards a new year. There’s a nip of winter in the air. Not quite sure who did this pinup, it’s coming up with multiple names, but, hey, who doesn’t love an American cowgirl?
What’s happening in Ye Olde Blogosphere? The Fine 15
As always, the full set of pinups can be seen in the Patriotic Pinup category, or over at my Gallery page. While we are on pinups, since it is that time of year, have you gotten your “Pinups for Vets†calendar yet? And don’t forget to check out what I declare to be our War on Women Rule 5 and linky luv posts and things that interest me
Don’t forget to check out all the other great material all the linked blogs have!
Anyone else have a link or hotty-fest going on? Let me know so I can add you to the list. (BTW, since someone asked, the reason I leave links for the previous week up (or you might see a *) is because they are place holders for later in the day or for next weeks. Easier than rewriting all the time. Also, the listing order has to do with how they are added over time, not how good a post is. I just copy and paste from the previous week, then edit. If you see one of the *’s, go ahead and check out the blog anyhow, see if there is an update. I cannot update with my Android during the day.

Fortunately, Trump’s no Caesar yet, as the Washington Post’s Alex Wellerstein has a meltdown in the Era of Trump
No one can stop President Trump from using nuclear weapons. That’s by design.
Sometime in the next few weeks, Donald Trump will be briefed on the procedures for how to activate the U.S. nuclear arsenal, if he hasn’t already learned about them.
All year, the prospect of giving the real estate and reality TV mogul the power to launch attacks that would kill millions of people was one of the main reasons his opponents argued against electing him. “A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons,†Hillary Clinton said in her speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination. She cut an ad along the same lines. Republicans who didn’t support Trump — and even some who did, such as Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) — also said they didn’t think he could be trusted with the launch codes.
That’s funny. Because enough people in the States that mattered ignored the bleating and voted to make Trump president. Deal with it.
Now they’re his. When Trump takes office in January, he will have sole authority over more than 7,000 warheads. There is no failsafe. The whole point of U.S. nuclear weapons control is to make sure that the president — and only the president — can use them if and whenever he decides to do so. The one sure way to keep President Trump from launching a nuclear attack, under the system we’ve had in place since the early Cold War, would have been to elect someone else.
Perhaps Democrats should have nominated someone else who could have beaten Trump, instead of engaging in Trump Derangement Syndrome based on unhinged feelings of future doom.
Wellerstein goes on to explain exactly why only the President can initiate the launch of nuclear weapons, an interesting read from just an informational point of view, before ending with
The people who set up the current command-and-control system did believe there was a check in place: elections. Don’t want an insane president to have nuclear weapons? Don’t put one in office. But this isn’t necessarily much of a check — even rational presidents have bad days; even high-functioning people succumb to mental illness or substance abuse. (snip)
Congress ceded a considerable amount of power to the presidency in 1946. Seventy years later, maybe it is time lawmakers took some of it back.
So, now that Trump will soon be President, Things Must Change. In 2008, a demagogue with delusions of grandeur and a belief in the extreme power of the Executive Office and the will to use it was elected, a guy with no actual executive experience and penchant for destroying political opponents, yet, these same weenies writing for news orgs felt no need to worry about him using nuclear weapons. I guess it has to do with the notion that Obama wouldn’t want to irradiate all the golf courses.
Fortunately, Trump is no Caesar

TDS: Trump Derangement Syndrome. This is something we’ll be seeing for at least the next 4 years, as, no matter what happens, the Left and their complaint media will find fault
(Washington Post) President-elect Donald Trump spoke Friday with Taiwan’s president, a major departure from decades of U.S. policy in Asia and a breach of diplomatic protocol with ramifications for the incoming president’s relations with China.
The call is the first known contact between a U.S. president or president-elect with a Taiwanese leader since before the United States broke diplomatic relations with the island in 1979. China considers Taiwan a province, and news of the official outreach by Trump is likely to infuriate the regional military and economic power. (snip)
It is not clear whether Trump intends a more formal shift in U.S. relations with Taiwan or China. On the call, Trump and Tsai congratulated each other on winning their elections, a statement from Trump’s transition office said.
A breach of protocol? Sure. Even some Republicans wet the bed on this. Now, apparently, Taiwan president Tsai called Trump. What was he supposed to do, blow her off?
Now, here’s the thing: while Obama has been president, we were told that he could talk to anyone he wanted. He’s the president! It was a good thing when he reached out! It was super duper awesome that Obama was going to not only talk to, but work with the extremist dictatorships in Cuba and Iran! Reaching out, opening up dialogue! Hooray! This was awesome! Great! Historic!
Trump talks briefly with the democratically elected president of Taiwan? Doom! Horrible! How dare he!
Seriously, this is apparently a Major Diplomatic Crisis! Has anyone asked China if the care?

The extreme enviroweenie/Warmist sects have been pushing doom from climate change for decades, particularly since the utterly non-scientific books The Population Bomb and Silent Spring. They’re still pimping this apocalyptic viewpoint, despite all their prognostications failing to come to fruition. Why? This is what they do. You don’t expect squirrels to stop collecting nuts for the winter and skunks to stop spraying when they feel danger, do you?
Climate change could spark major humanitarian crisis, experts say
We hear about the continued effects of climate change all the time, but The Guardian reports military experts have another warning. The group said that even if the rise in global warming is held under 2 degrees Celsius, there still could be a major humanitarian crisis to sort out. That figure is widely regarded as a limit beyond which there will be dangerous consequences.
“Climate change could lead to a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions,” said Brigadier General Stephen Cheney, CEO of the American Security Project and member of the foreign policy affairs board for the State Department. “We’re already seeing migration of large numbers of people around the world because of food scarcity, water insecurity and extreme weather, and this is set to become the new normal.”
Oh, noes, the new normal! Was it the new normal when people were migrating, had food scarcity, and water insecurity during the Little Ice Age? Or during the Dark Ages? This is all scaremongering at it’s very best.
And, since this is simply prognostication on par with Madam Zelda at the carnival, it’s essentially that fake news stuff liberals have been complaining about.
In terms of migration, Bangladesh is a prime example of potential for major issues. Chairman of the Global Military Advisory Council on Climate Change Major General Munir Muniruzzaman explained that water scarcity and rising sea level would massively disrupt not only that country, but the entire region.
“We’re going to see refugee problems on an unimaginable scale, potentially above 30 million people,” Muniruzzaman said. He also explained that with a 1 meter (3 foot) rise in sea level, Bangladesh could lose 20 percent of its land mass. “Climate change is the greatest security threat of the 21st century,” he continued. Environmental factors are one cause of the massive European migration crisis and the group of military officials say those issues will continue to pose security risks and could provoke international conflict.
The closest sea level gauges show little to no sea rise in Bangladesh (here and here). Even for those areas seeing sea rise, it is entirely within the range it should be (often much lower) for a Holocene warm period, and it would take hundreds of years to see a 3 foot sea rise.
As for the European migration crisis, it’s not climate change, it’s war, particularly as the Islamists have grown stronger and bolder. In case they missed it, a goodly chunk of these “migrants” are young fighting age men from throughout the Muslim world, who are now causing all sorts of crime, including rape and sexual assault, and they’re all demanding that Europe accommodate them and change to be more extremist Islam.
If you’re throwing out words like could, like, might, may, etc, prognosticating the future, it’s not science, it’s a cult, hence, fake news.
