I always get a kick out of people telling me that the anthropogenic climate change folks aren’t about increasingly big and more dominating government
https://twitter.com/chaamjamal/status/872717527951880196
Watts Up With That? links to this article at The Conversation, which wonders Why is climate change such a hard sell in the US?. Professor of Philosophy Firmin DeBrabander, Maryland Institute College of Art, tells us
I suspect that because of all these hurdles, climate change is not liable to be solved by democracies. Autocracies might do better – like China, for example. Given the severity of its current air pollution – a veritable “airpocalypse†– China’s government does not need to be prodded or persuaded to act; the necessity is obvious, and urgent. And China has the ability to take dramatic measures on climate change and act quickly – just what scientists are calling for – dragging the people with them. This is, after all, the nation that lifted half a billion people into the middle class in a single generation.
It’s a real shame that Warmists are having a tough time instituting their prized Progressivism (nice Fascism), eh?

Who would have thought that Liberals could manage to ratchet up the derangement well beyond what we witnessed during the George W. Bush years
Biology Professor: Trauma Of Trump Presidency Will Mutate Human Genome For All Eternity
A taxpayer-funded professor at the University of Washington is now predicting that Donald Trump’s presidency will create trauma on such a massive scale that it will permanently change the human genome.
The professor, Peter Ward, offered his dire prediction at Gizmodo on Monday as one of seven evolutionary biologists answering the burning question: “Can Superhuman Mutants Be Living Among Us?†(snip)
“We’re finding more and more that, for instance, people who have gone through combat, or women who have been abused — when you have these horrendous episodes in life, it causes permanent change, which is then passed on to your kids,†Ward writes. “These are actual genetic shifts that are taking place within people.â€
These individual genetic changes add up to trigger “huge evolutionary change.â€
“On a larger scale, the amount of stress that Americans are going through now, because of Trump — there is going to be an evolutionary consequence,†Ward explains.

This is so nutty it doesn’t even deserve a facepalm.

The NY Daily News has allowed Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf to write a cute little piece in support of Sharia law
The silly American fear of sharia law
“Most Americans would be shocked to hear Israel imposes sharia law. But it does for some 60 years.†These are the words of Israeli writer Yossi Gurvitz, opening an article he wrote for +972, an online periodical.
He’s right — and it’s a fact that Americans who love Israel and hate sharia have to wrap their heads around.
In Israel, the family laws of several religions function within the larger framework of secular jurisprudence. Muslims marry according to the rules of Islamic law, as Jews do according to Jewish law, and Christians do according to Christian (canonical) law.
The religious courts belong to the Israeli court system. The Israeli government enforces their decisions. This is called legal pluralism — and Israelis inherit it from the Ottoman Empire.
Why, then, is the very idea of sharia so consistently vilified in our country? Why is it used as a culture-war punching bag, such as in the March Against Sharia being staged this Saturday?
Let’s be clear: America could never have state-sanctioned religious courts. The First Amendment, which prevents government establishment of religion, forbids it.
But Islamic law can and does already operate in America under state sanction. When Muslim Americans are married according to Islamic law by a state-certified officiant of Muslim marriages, and receive in the process a civil certificate of marriage, they have, in effect, practiced Islamic law under official U.S. sanction.
Would the anti-sharia agitators keep Muslim Americans from marrying? Would they keep them from praying, distributing charity, fasting during Ramadan? For Muslim Americans already do all these things at the command of their law.
Oh, noes, it might keep them from marrying! It’s allowed in Israel! How can Americans be so silly! Imam Rauf goes on to write that Sharia law is super consistent “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” and that you right wingers are just creating caricatures of it. Thomas Jefferson would approve! It’s totally fine!
He’s forgetting a few things, like that full Sharia law is not allowed in Israel, and that full Sharia law is something more than just getting married….hey, he does realize that full Sharia, as reflected in today’s practice, allows middle age men to marry pre-teen girls, right? He’s good with that, right? Would pro-Sharia agitators approve of that? Hasan Mahmud noted that not all of Shari is bad, there are plenty of things within Sharia law that’s fine, and he’s right, much like what Imam Rauf writes. But, Mahmud goes further
Sharia is more than stoning or amputing limbs or public beheading – Sharia is a spirit also. Its spirit is against current civilization. Sharia instigates its believers to destroy secular democracy (from within!) and establish so called Islamic State because law is pointless without a state. True that secular democracy is not problem-free but that is the best we have and it is evolving; but even a cursory look into the laws shows that problem with Sharia law is far deeper.
Stonings, public beheadings, amputating limbs, all those things were forgotten by the Imam. And modern Sharia is an attempt to institute a more repressive version of Islam within nations, replacing the existing laws with Islamic law. And THAT is the major problem. The hardcore Islamists like Rauf do not want to stop with just small things, they want the whole kit and kaboodle.
Israel allows Sharia to a point, but, Israeli law takes precedence. They don’t allow honor killings or female genital mutilation. Hasan lists many points, including
14. Muslim women are the primary victims of sharia law. The claim that “Sharia law is Islamic†destroys Islam’s image as a religion of peace and justice.
Those on the political left always say they support women, but, they are more than willing to run the bus over them in attempting to protect the hardcore version of Islam which is pushing Sharia law down the throats of nations around the world, including the Western world. James Arlandson noted 10 reasons why Sharia is bad for societies, including
For those who keep saying Sharia is no big deal, you’re good with being whipped for hooking up, right? You’re fine with hanging gays, right? Let’s say we just allow full Sharia within just the Muslim community? You’re fine with a woman to be stoned, right? But, that’s not what Muslims like the above Imam want: they want to replace our whole system with Sharia law. What happened at the Orlando Pulse nightclub, a place where the LGBT community went, was “a hate-crime driven by a fundamental belief in Muslim Sharia law.”
And what of Imam Rauf himself? He’s a piece of work, skirting that line of Islamic extremism in public, and never really wanting to talk about the violence inherent in Sharia law. He liked to blame the U.S. for 9/11. He’s been pushing for the implementation of Sharia law in the U.S. for over a decade, but, like most, what he’s really pushing is for the replacement of U.S. law with Islamic law, an Islamic theocracy. And that’s the problem with this Sharia law push: they do not want to practice it within small communities up to a point, with the laws of the U.S. still in force. They want to replace it.

North Korea accuses President Trump of being "selfish" over Paris climate pact withdrawal https://t.co/fNFOFDEynk pic.twitter.com/5AWcKqyLIc
— CNN (@CNN) June 7, 2017
And we get in the story
In a statement Tuesday, Pyongyang said Washington’s move represented “the height of egoism and moral vacuum seeking only their own well-being, even at the cost of the entire planet.â€
“The selfish act of the US does not only have grave consequences for the international efforts to protect the environment, but poses great danger to other areas as well,†a spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, according to state news agency KCNA.
Obviously, it led to a lot of Nork lovers, or, really, should I say Trump Derangers, coming out of the woodwork, such as
https://twitter.com/AdamGFrench/status/872465573388713985
It just shows how utterly deranged Liberals are when it comes to Trump. More at Twitchy.
Of course, the Democratic People’s Republic Of Korea (snicker), otherwise known as North Korea, ratified the Paris Climate Agreement the same way Barack Obama did it: by unilateral dictatorial decision.

The primary revenue source for Hawaii is tourism, accounting for roughly 21% of the revenue, which requires people to take mostly fossil fueled flights to the state. Then you have the notion that a goodly chunk of food, building supplies, and other materials are brought in on fossil fueled planes and ships. The military, which uses a lot of FF, provides more revenue. Then, people taking fossil fueled helicopter, boat, car, and bus trips (parts are brought in on FF ships and planes). And then this
Hawaii defies Donald Trump by backing Paris climate change deal
Hawaii has become the first US state to formally adopt pledges in the Paris Agreement to drastically tackle climate change.
The volcanic island state’s Governor David Ige has signed two landmark laws supporting “the commitments and goals” of the accord.
It makes Hawaii the first state to defy President Donald Trump, who pulled the US out of the treaty signed by 148 other countries.
The first law to come into force is Senate Bill 559, which states that “not only is climate change real, but it is the overriding challenge of the 21st century”.
The bill continues: “Regardless of federal action, the legislature supports the goals of the Paris Agreement to combat climate change and its effects on environments, economies, and communities around the world.”
It commits Hawaii to cutting greenhouse gas emissions by publishing emission contribution levels every five years, promoting “environmental integrity”, conserving forests, wetlands and nature preserves and incentivising companies to be more carbon-neutral
The second law is about creating a certification scheme (good word for it) for farmers to be carbon neutral. All in all, it’s pretty much the norm, a lot of spreading awareness and pledging to be Warmists, rather than really doing something concrete (BTW, all the concrete used for buildings in Hawaii has a high carbon footprint).
Regardless, how is this “defiance?” It doesn’t seem that Trump could care in the least whether a state does this. I guess everything is defiance and resistance and such in the Age Of Trump.
It is amusing that Lefties are suddenly enthused by Federalism and the the 10th Amendment. But, if they really cared, they’d tell all the tourists they can only come if they take trips on non-fossil fueled sailing ships. Hawaii’s real carbon footprint is pretty high as it is.

Remember when Democrats argued in the wake of Arizona’s SB1070 immigration law that when it comes to immigration, all must follow federal law? Those were the days
(Breitbart) The city council of Columbus, Ohio, voted on Monday to make it against the law to arrest anyone based on their illegal immigration status. The city also doubled-down and made it illegal to deny someone services because they are an illegal alien. City officials deny that Columbus is a “sanctuary city.â€
The Columbus Dispatch reported that the Columbus City Council voted to adopt an executive order issued by Mayor Andrew J. Ginther in early February.
That executive order reads
It shall be policy of the City of Columbus to actively support, to the greatest extent practicable, the placement or settlement in this jurisdiction of aliens eligible to be admitted to the United States as refugees. City staff are hereby authorized and directed to cooperate to the greatest extent practicable with federal and state officials in such placement or settlement.Notice in number two, they will cooperate only with a court order. You can bet they won’t cooperate with ICE detainers. But, hey, don’t say they’re a sanctuary city
Although the policy prevents the City or employees from using any city property for detecting or apprehending those illegally in the country, or “the use of local taxpayer resources for the enforcement of federal immigration policy,†city officials do not declare Columbus a “sanctuary city,†reported the Dispatch. “[T]hey don’t want the city a target for President Donald Trump, who has threatened federal funding for cities that adopt the label,†the article written Monday afternoon about the ordinance and city officials reported.
Whether or not they declare it, they are a sanctuary jurisdiction, a place that requires law enforcement and the justice system to ignore people who are unlawfully present in the United States in contradiction to federal law.
Seriously, questioning people is always a bad idea, you know?
