Climate change could be making lizards less intelligent, finds study
Exposing lizard eggs to warmer temperatures during incubation makes the individuals that hatch from those eggs less intelligent, according to new research.
Bearded dragons, a popular pet species, are surprisingly smart reptiles, but this study suggests that their brainpower could be threatened by global warming.
To investigate the effects of heat on intelligence, scientists at the University of Lincoln incubated a clutch of bearded dragon eggs at the elevated temperature of 30°C, while keeping another clutch incubated at the more normal temperature of 27°C.
So, they artificially increased the temperature well beyond what has actually happened since 1850, which is a .9 to 1.0 Celsius increase. Anyhow, they raised the dragons, then tested them, and claim that the ones from the warmer egg clutch took longer to perform the tasks.
Intelligence is a useful attribute. If it is threatened by climate change, then so too is the survival of these reptiles.

Jo Nova points out that this “study” involved 13 eggs from the same clutch being split in two. Not much of a survey sample. She also has a fun graphic noting that the Bearded Dragons must have been genius’ during the last ice age.
James Dellingpole is also making fun of this climahysteric study. Because it is mock-worthy. They could do one on Warmists, but, then, we see real world examples of this idiocy daily.

(AP) A gun control group founded by former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords asked two web hosting companies on Friday to shut down websites selling parts and machines that help make untraceable homemade firearms known as “ghost guns.â€
The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence asked the providers that host GhostGunner.net and GhostGuns.com to disable the websites for violating the hosting companies’ terms of service.
The sites sell kits, components and machines that help create homemade semi-automatic weapons. It’s legal to build a gun in a home or a workshop, and advances in 3-D printing and milling have made it easier to do so. The kits can be purchased legally for a few hundred dollars without the kind of background check required for traditional gun purchases.
Attorneys for the gun control advocacy group said the homemade weapons are increasingly being used in crimes and asked each of the companies to “invoke its policies to help stem the tide of this illegal, deadly behavior.â€
They argue that the hosting companies, Shopify and DreamHost, should invoke their ability to disable and terminate the websites. The group argues that the two sites sell “the sort of products that have already caused scores of senseless deaths — and are likely to cause many more, unless taken off the market.â€
Nowhere in the terms of service for either hosting company provide for termination of a website because the site is not approved of by Leftist gun grabbers. Especially when the product is legal. And when GhostGunner provides terms that explain the legality, and how its use is legal, and that it may require registering the weapon in certain areas.
Cody Wilson, who runs GhostGunner.net, said the products he sells on his website are legal and in compliance with federal regulations. He has said although there is no legal requirement that he conduct background checks, he tries to take precautions to make sure the weapons aren’t used nefariously.
“This is an attempt to apply pressure to deplatform a legal, American business selling legal products to law-abiding customers,†he said.
This is what Liberals do: they do not like a product, so, they will look to ban it through every avenue available. Interestingly, they aren’t applying pressure to the lawmakers.

The occurrences discussed in this article are five of some 60 known weather-related phenomenon, which can lead to what climate scientist James Hansen has termed the “Venus Syndrome,†where oceans would boil and the surface temperature of earth could reach 462 degrees Celsius. Along the way humans could expect to die in resource wars, starvation due to food systems collapse or lethal heat exposure.
Given all that remains unknown and what is at stake with climate change, is it irresponsible to rule out the possibility of human extinction in the coming decades or sooner?

Mattel Inc. has introduced a devout Muslim version of the popular Barbie doll, inspired by American Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad. She has brown eyes and dark skin, dresses modestly and has long dark hair in a bun that you can’t see.
Some conservatives have criticized Mattel for hijab Barbie. Yes, it is obviously a nod to political correctness and a transparent attempt to keep the Barbie franchise edgy. Muslim modesty is in, both as a fashion and political statement. And the political angle is why we are unlikely to see other avatars of feminine modesty such as evangelical Barbie wearing a cross or frum Orthodox Jewish Barbie in her sheitel. How about Amish Barbie? Buggy sold separately.
Is there a big demand for hijab Barbie? Mattel thinks so. One obvious market for the doll is the liberal, non-Muslim parent who wants to make a statement to the world about tolerance and intersectionality.
In other words, buy it to virtue signal that you…..support intolerance towards and subjugation of women in Islam.
This is the kind of person who dresses a baby boy in pink to trap the unwary into an uncomfortable/sanctimonious discussion about gender roles. These parents will have a special glow of virtue about them in the checkout line. In fact, they will make a special effort to go to the mall instead of ordering online so they can chat up the patient checkout person about the social importance of their purchase.
See, it’s not about actual support, it’s about thinking that this makes oneself superior. Just a bunch of smug elitists being narcissistic.
Mattel says hijab Barbie is about empowerment. And yes, in recent decades Barbie has been all about feeding aspirations. Small children have big dreams. The real life-changing empowerment might come when Muslim girls in traditional homes make the choice to take Barbie’s hijab off — and leave it off.

What better way to attempt to sway people to your plight than to ruin an event people wanted to watch with their kids?
(NorthJersey.com) Several people were removed Thursday after they attempted to block the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of a protest to press lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children to stay in the country without fear of deportation.
Protesters demonstrated near West 70th Street and Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Several demonstrators attempted to block the parade but were removed by New York police. None was charged.
The demonstration was organized by the Seed Project, a nonviolent organization that aims to be a voice for undocumented immigrant youth and bring them permanent protection from removal.
Great idea: let’s annoy people. A better one would be to ask nicely, rather than demanding.
Among those who demonstrated was 26-year old Osvaldo Rodriguez from Red Bank, a DACA recipient. Rodriguez was born in Mexico and moved to New Jersey when he was 11 years old. He graduated from high school in New Jersey, went to college for a few semesters and now owns a photography business. Rodriguez said he loves baseball, has adapted to the American culture and its values and feels American.
“We just want to give back to this country what this country has given us,” Rodriguez said before the demonstration.
Rodriguez said he wanted to participate in Thursday’s action to draw attention to the situation and the looming deadline that DACA recipients are facing.
That deadline is on them. They shouldn’t be here. And they can blame Obama for instituting an un-Constitutional program which gave these illegals false hope.
“This is the only way that we are going to shift the mindset of people, because we are doing nonviolence,” he said. “When people are sharing a meal in their homes, there are families that are being separated, and there is no reason why, whether you are poor or rich, you should be separated.”
Families are separated all the time when a member is busted for a crime and has to do time. Regardless, the more the illegals like the Dreamers pull stunts the more people are hardened against giving them a chance. If your friend, child, spouse, etc, are browbeating you to do something, are you more or less likely to listen and do that thing? That’s right, less.
Meanwhile, in Canada, “immigrants” are, shockingly, not all that likely to assimilate by learning French in the province of Quebec.

The ancillary promise is that, through green consumerism, we can reconcile perpetual growth with planetary survival. A global growth rate of 3% means that the size of the world economy doubles every 24 years. This is why environmental crises are accelerating at such a rate. Yet the plan is to ensure that it doubles and doubles again, and keeps doubling in perpetuity. In seeking to defend the living world from the maelstrom of destruction, we might believe we are fighting corporations and governments and the general foolishness of humankind. But they are all proxies for the real issue: perpetual growth on a planet that is not growing.
It’s always interesting when Warmists trot down the road to doing away with any form of capitalism for their cult, even as they beat around the bush to say it.
Green consumerism, material decoupling, sustainable growth: all are illusions, designed to justify an economic model that is driving us to catastrophe. The current system, based on private luxury and public squalor, will immiserate us all: under this model, luxury and deprivation are one beast with two heads.
We need a different system, rooted not in economic abstractions but in physical realities, that establish the parameters by which we judge its health. We need to build a world in which growth is unnecessary, a world of private sufficiency and public luxury. And we must do it before catastrophe forces our hand.
If you read that last link, it is all about government being in charge. They build the swimming pools and such for the public to use. There would be no private ones. But, oh, they would all be controlled by “communities”. Basically, this is all an outshoot of Marxist theory. They do not care about the environment nor ‘climate change’: they’re merely excuses to initiate a far left economic system with government control.
